Sony has released a new four-minute gameplay video of Freedom Wars, its upcoming PS Vita game from God Eater developer Shift.

Dubbed “Volunteer 01,” the clip shows a battle against the Divine Punishment Abductor “Koushin.”

Watch the video below. The game is due out on June 26 in Japan and this year in North America and Europe.

    Hrm… Koushin, huh? I’m not entirely sure how they would translate the name of this boss actually. Koushin can mean a few things. Maybe it could be like a tall retainer or something?

    There are just so many ways you can translate it, I’m not really sure what to name it XD. I’m just curious since it’s coming out in English too, so I’m wondering if they will just keep the name as this or translate it. I’d love to hear what our local translator has to say about it :p

      Yeah.. Haven’t seen the Dragon type in motion yet, just screenies and CGs.

      I am worried with the enemy variety, the 5K yen and 30 USD pricetags.

          No idea sorry. I wouldn’t doubt there’d be some free “updates”.. idk about meaty dlcs.

        I’m not expecting MHFU/3/4 monster variety though, that would be impossible or very expensive for a new game.

          Doubt that’s the main reason. This game is too fresh to do any denting IMO. If anything it’s to get some of the co-op mp-jarpg players to get FW, not completely displace MH.

          True. These guys better make sure the games core mechanics are, first, desirable enough before spending so much for its content.

            Well this game is part of their tri pronged attack against Hunting game so I could see the reason.

    Looks pretty cool, but definitely not on the same level than Monster Hunter. Just look at how they handle when a character gets hits from that running attack, always gets hit upwards (which makes no sense).

      MH is tediously boring to me. So… opinions.

      And, I prefer that honestly. I’d be knocked into other areas while playing Toukiden. incredibly annoying.

        That was such a stupid annoyance in Toukiden. Seriously, the oni insists on staying near a Torii, I go to it, and its attack knocks me through the gate into another area, forcing me to run back and deal with 2 loading screens? WTF, KT?

      What I don’t get is the comparison: FW seems a very different game compared to MH.

        So much this. It’s quite different.

        Can you cling to walls while shooting and attacking in MH?
        How about PVP?
        Direct Command your AI parnter?
        How about Regenerating health and switching weapons with a 3rd sub weapon (thorn)?
        Take cover?
        Rescue civilians?

        This game doesn’t have cooking/bug catching/farming/fishing/carving/sharpening and doing silly poses when consuming certain items.

        Don’t get me wrong, MH sales are gonna curb stomp this for years and years to come but that’s because it ain’t exactly, verbatim, the MH formula.

      If you are talking about “looks”, then Freedom Wars run circles around MH 3DS and PSP.
      Plus, the story here seems infinitely more interesting than non-existing MH one, which makes that game a chore for me.

        Nothing wrong with wanting more justification for massacring the admittedly monstrous local fauna beyond “to upgrade my weapons and armor so I could massacre them even more and drive PETA insane!” :D

      I don’t know about that. I really don’t like and can’t get into MH. I tried playing it many times but I just can’t. But I absolutely love Toukiden and God Eater.

        I feel the same way. MH is quite boring to me. I just couldn’t get into it. Yet, I love God Eater, haha.

      Your post reminds me of God Eater Burst, where the NPC character Alisa evidently had the Drama Queen passive that makes her get blown into the air in somewhat exaggerated fashion no matter what hits her.

      Maybe it’s a game balance thing. So you can potentially get pwnd by stunlock because you never get pushed backwards (and out of danger).

    Looks so much like that boss from Toukiden. Only slower and a tiger. (and a few other differences)

    Love the art design in this game and the graphics. And love how many characters there are during battle.

    Oh man I’m loving these game, hopefully Sony doesn’t go with the “digital only” crap this time and give us a nifty collectors edition

      Its already up for pre-order. Wouldn’t get your hopes up on CE. Don’t think SCEA & SCEE have done a single one with Vita games.

    I don’t know if it’s possible, but if it were me playing I’d jump around a lot more with this thorn stuff. Speeding up to a wall, shooting in the air, things like that. That could be nice.

    Still I feel like this game might be the one that’s going to make me like hunting game for once, I couldn’t get into MH nor Toukiden.

      Try Soul Sacrifice. I hated Toukiden and found MonHun to be dull after a while, but SS is one of the best games I’ve ever played.

        Ah well, actually SS didn’t do it for me neither. The gameplay was nice but there was still a little something bothering me, maybe it felt slow or I don’t know. It sure was the one I liked the most out of the three though.
        God Eater 2 (the demo) is the only one I really liked, but since we’re not getting it, that’s a bit useless.

          Probably because of the pace. As far much as I have played and experienced,

          Monster hunter has a much slower pace to it, second comes toukiden which also has a slow pace (both games use stamina bars). Monsters from both the games take way too long to defeat.

          Soul Sacrifice is that of a mid pace game. (no stamina bar). Monster are faster to defeat in many cases. (does not mean easy to). It just doesn’t have good character design.

            I love the character designs of SS. They went with a dark european feel.

            But i admit the grotesque designs can be off putting.

      Yeah, might as well think like some character out of Attack on Titan and abuse our mobility advantage against our large, murderous mechanical friends here.

    Love the Abductor’s movement patterns. I also love that damage to the parts, breaks off elements of the Abductor for collection but it seemed like this abductor either had too many wing layers or the damage model didn’t remain permanent like in conventional hunting action games. It’s just about polish from here on out =] Also Sal, I know I forget this but this game isn’t solely made by Shift, Japan Studio and Dimps are working on this too, best not to miss that note when writing an article.

    Man, that abductor totally reminds me of… Damn what’s his name?

    The Transformer from the show Beasties/Beast Wars. He was part eagle and part wolf.

    Anyways, he reminds me of him. God i want this.
