Square Enix bringing smartphone version of Dragon Quest VIII over?

Kadokawa Games

A string of new trademarks were recently filed by Kadokawa Games, Square Enix, and Nintendo. Nintendo’s is rather long, actually.

Here’s the list:

Kadokawa Games

Square Enix

  • Andrew Arndt

hmmmm might have to look in to these when more info shows up

  • TheExile285

    Interested in seeing Kadokawa Games

  • bloodiOS

Out of all of those, only Kadokawa Games’ trademarks had me interested.

  • Zackasaur

Well, I’m curious about the Kadokawa Games things, and I want to know what Mechanical Apartheid is.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Only thing I can find on apartheid is a racial segregation.

      • Zackasaur

lol Yeah, that is what that means.

“Mechanical Apartheid” sounds a lot like Deus Ex, though it could be anything. The name suggests that something mechanical is being segregated from something else (likely biological).

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I would assume something like that.

  • $18114340

code name S.T.E.A.M…. Half-Life Wii confirmed?

  • KH

I guess the S.T.E.A.M thing could be related to Retro Studios’ new project or to Miyamoto’s new Ip.

  • Eder García

    Nintendo trademarks what? http://imgur.com/hj5sHxj

  • dark-kyon

i can not forgive to square enix not put dragon quest 8 in ps3 o vita and not porting teathrim final fantasy a psvita, these guys deserve bankrupcy.

    • TalesOfBS

lol and Nintendo fans saying the same thing over KH3.

      • EX+

Why? The Wii U can’t even handle the game, let alone FF15. Nomura said it himself. 3rd party games just don’t sell well on Nintendo consoles anymore.
It’s the same reason why Arkham Knight, The Division and possibly Watch Dogs aren’t coming to the Wii U. Hell, AC Unity ain’t going to it.

        • TalesOfBS

Stopped reading at Wii U can’t even handle the game.
          What a idiot kid.

          • EX+

But it can’t. Did you not see Nomura’s statement on the matter?

        • Jormangund

I understand if 3rd party games don’t sell well anymore on the Wii U, but I don’t think there’s any connection between that and the Wii U not being able to actually handle the game. I’m pretty sure the Wii U would be able to handle it. It’s just, as you said, 3rd party games don’t sell as well anymore.

          • EX+

Unless the scale it down to be precise. As far as Nomura’s statement goes.

            • Jormangund

Could you link me to the statement? From the wording of your earlier post, I thought that what you meant by “Nomura said it himself” is the that that 3rd party games don’t sell well on Nintendo consoles AKA the Wii U.

              • EX+
              • EX+

‘When asked about the title possibly coming to Wii U, Nomura explained that the team is developing it using DirectX 11. Square Enix can only bring the game to hardware that is “appropriate” for Kingdom Hearts III. ‘
Not to mention it is just a bit more powerful than the PS3/360.

                • Jormangund

While Square Enix did word it like a pretentious asshole, can’t deny the facts. Ah well.

And here I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to buy another console just to finish the Xehanort saga…hurts my wallet, it does.

              • TalesOfBS

They just don’t want to port the game because they think it is not worth the effort $$$. Sony and MS have a Direct X/Blu-ray deal. Makes it available in both platforms. Wii U is OpenGL only.
A way different situation from the “the console can’t handle it” fanboy bllsht.

                • EX+

No, I’m not a fanboy. I plan to buy the Wii U and don’t even have a PS4, probably not until March 2015, due to the fact that it’s dry as hell on all the consoles right now. Lol. But there’s no denying that it’s significantly weaker than even the XBO.

                  • Jormangund

In regards to stuff like comparisons between the different consoles, I don’t really have anything to give thanks to my lack of knowledge, but more searching around did lead me to this:

This came out last year, October, which is actually one month after the statement by Squeenix saying that the lack of DX11 was the reason why the Wii U wouldn’t have KH3. According to the article, though the Wii U doesn’t actually have DX11, “they would be offering DirectX 11 equivalent functionality for Unity games made on the Wii U, utilizing shader 4.0 or higher features.”

So in the case with some games, it seems as if @talesofbs:disqus is actually right in saying that the devs don’t believe that the game would sell well if put on the Wii U, even if that is only part of the reason.

                    • EX+

                      Again, let me reiterate.
Basically what Nomura is saying is that the Wii U uses DX11, yet not to the extent that they would want it to. You can’t compare an animated/cel-shaded 2D platformer to a full blown, next gen AAA game. KH3 is going to be more demanding by MILES than every single indie game that will come out this generation. It’s not just what API it uses, it’s the actual hardware limitations that affect whether or not you can run a game on the Wii U the exact same way as the PS4 version, but with slightly downgraded visuals. Enemy AI puts pressure on the hardware too. You’d have to scale the game down a lot, which means more time and money wasted all for a port to a console that is more than likely going to come dead last the generation.
And trust me when I tell you to never link anyone to Cinemablend when it comes to the Wii U. They’re almost as bad as player Essence.
The fact of the matter is this: The Wii U can’t handle KH3.

                    • Jormangund

Ah. Rereading the article shows you’re right. Oh well. My earlier statement about the Xehanort saga still applies either way..

    • EX+

I can’t forgive them not making Dragon Quest 11 already.

  • Audie Bakerson

STEAM? It’s over! Nintendo has gone third party!

But seriously, the Mechanical Apartheid sounds like a subtitle for a Human Revolution sequel (even though they already trademarked one. Maybe it’s like Namco’s fake Tales of trademarks).

Nintendo’s seems way too long to be a subtitle, so new IP. Something about it seems like a download only title.
