Kadokawa acquires Dark Souls developer FromSoftware

Demon Gaze publisher to acquire 80 percent of shares on May 21.

Kadokawa Corporation has announced the acquisition Dark Souls and Armored Core series developer FromSoftware.

The company will acquire 80 percent of the total number of shares of FromSoftware from previous stakeholder Transcosmos in a transfer closing on May 21.

Together with its game subsidiary Kadokawa Games, Kadokawa Corporation hopes FromSoftware will expand its business as a core company in the games industry. Both studios can make the best of each others’ expertise to mutually strengthen game development, as well as share resources.

Transcosmos expects to record an extraordinary gain of $1.75 billion yen (approx. $17 million USD) as a result of FromSoftware’s sale.
