EA

Electronic Arts will hold its E3 2014 press conference on Monday, June 9 at 1 p.m. PT at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the company confirmed to IGN.

Microsoft, Ubisoft, and Sony’s press conferences usually occur on the same day, with Nintendo’s (or their Direct, rather) following the day after.

And it begins. Really excited for this E3. Not anything from EA mind you. (Unless Mirror’s Edge manages to be there, or Battlefront 3)

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Why are you excited for this E3? Last year being shit should lead you believe this one will be shit too. Mirror’s Edge and Battlefront 3 will both likely be there in some way or form, as much as they should be… who knows.

      • EX+

You thought last E3 was shit? I thought last E3 was the best in a while.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Really? Meh. The last GOOD one was like 2 or 3 years ago.

          • EX+

Maybe it’s because of the fact that a lot of games that I wanted to be there were there. Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III, Smash Bros. Wii U, Mirror’s Edge 2 etc.

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I suppose that is true, what little games they did have, they did have a good selection of great ones.

      • Elvick

Because, unlike you, I loved last year’s E3.

        Simple.

  • DesmaX

Hope they’ll confirm that Mirror’s Edge is still a thing

    • Solomon_Kano

Have they given us any reason to think it isn’t?

      • Anime10121

Other than the complete silence usually attributed to titles like The Last Guardian, Beyond Good and Evil 2, and Final Fantasy XV… :P

        • Zackasaur

Well, EA flat-out told us that it is a long way off. lol

        • Solomon_Kano

It’s not like the game wasn’t just announced last year lol. We also knew they were busy with BF4 at the time, so expecting more news was a bad idea.

          • Anime10121

Mirror’s Edge reboot is gonna be developed by the Battle Field Folks (serious question)?

But either way, I still think we’re a LONG ways off from hearing anything concrete about Mirrors Edge, as it wasnt THAT big a success to begin with, and even though the team is passionate about the game, I’m not certain whether EA itself is…

            • Solomon_Kano

Yea. DICE created Mirror’s Edge to start with.

EA told us themselves that Mirror’s Edge is a ways off. Given the impending resurgence of Star Wars in the general consciousness, one would imagine Battlefront has top priority at DICE.

The first game’s performance is precisely why it’s taken so long for DICE to convince EA to give it another go, but I don’t imagine EA would have greenlit it if they didn’t believe they could make it bigger this time out.

              • Anime10121

So basically… if Mirrors Edge doesnt make it to E3 this year, I’ll still relegate it to Beyond Good and Evil 2 status. Unsuccessful first game (sales wise) with pretty good critical acclaim announces a sequel/reboot with more ambition getting placed on the backburner at EVERY chance because newer games with higher potential sales taking priority at every turn stealing its spotlight (and staff) :P

Still gotta get around to playing the first game, demo didnt really do it for me, however I LOVED its artstyle! It was simply beautiful to look at!

                • Solomon_Kano

I don’t think we have to fear it getting BGE’d. In the time since ME, DICE has become a lot more visible. With Battlefront to their name, assuming it turns out well, it shouldn’t be hard for them to make a big deal out of “the next game from DICE!” Ancel never had that kind of visibility, so Ubisift had no reason to prioritize BGE2 over AC235 or the latest Splinter Cell or what have you.

The new Mirror’s Edge being a reboot also works in its favor. Doing a sequel to a commercially unsuccessful game a decade+ on just doesn’t look good on paper, if you’re looking to maximize profit. People didn’t turn out the first time, Ubi has no reason to believe they’ll turn up this time. By effectively starting from scratch, EA can treat ME like a new IP and the majority of consumers will likely see it as such, so they’ve got a better chance of seeing a return for their trouble.

I never did finish the original ME. I have it on PC, but my laptop isn’t quite strong enough to run it. I liked what I played though.

            • MrFinalgamer

The original Mirrors Edge was made by DICE, AKA the Battlefield Folks. Doubt they’re not making the reboot.

              They’re also making Battlefront.

        • MrFinalgamer

” Beyond Good and Evil 2″ Michael Ancel said next gen, and Ubisoft Montpellier isn’t doing much right now. E3 2014 people!

          Believe!

          • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Ha. Ha. Ha. No. Don’t get yourself set up for disappoint. I say this for you, not to be a dick.

          • Solomon_Kano

With Rayman Legends behind us, I actually wouldn’t be too surprised if we got an update on that. I don’t expect it’d be a major one, since they’re currently working on Valiant Hearts, but perhaps a new teaser at least.

          • Anime10121

            Hope!

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Like Solo said. But also as I told Elvick below it will probably be there. Probably only as a quick 10 second trailer but still.

  • Solomon_Kano

    Battlefront or bust.

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

That’s the Star Wars game from PS2 days right?

      • Solomon_Kano

Yep. There was one on PSP some time later as well.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

      Agreed. And hello.

      • Solomon_Kano

        Howdy.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

          How’s it going?

          • Solomon_Kano

Pretty good. Lots of games to play, lots of animu to watch. How’re things on your end?

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Why call it animu… >.<; Eh fine I suppose.

              • Solomon_Kano

                Because animu :V

                • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

                  That…. isn’t an explanation…

  • Anime10121

    It begins (rubs hands together)

    • EX+

It begins (rubs Genie’s lamp to waste wishes on E3)

      • Anime10121

Your genie may as well be Jafar, cuz none of your wishes are gonna come out the way you want them :(

Hmm… most of that while I don’t care about, sounds fairly like, at least to a consumer standpoint (most important). Some of those… nah.

    • badmoogle

From that list i only care for DAI.But then again i’ve never been a big EA fan. :p

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Most people aren’t EA fans, at least well… even in general, but specifically here.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

Sims 4 isn’t even out yet. I think you’re jumping the gun on Sims 5. =P

Completely forgot about Army of Four. Last we heard, that was in development in 2012. But apparently things weren’t going well at the time and DICE was supposed to help after finishing Battlefield 3 http://kotaku.com/5864073/army-of-twos-sequel-is-not-army-of-three. I wonder if it was canned?

I just want Mirror’s Edge and Mass Effect. :3

      • Crossbones (Prodigy-X)

My bad I mean’t Sims 4. Was typing fast. Editing now.

  • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

June 9th huh. Hopefully this E3 is not shit like last year.

    • BossTuff

Having both the PS4 and XBO pit fight wasn’t enough last year? That was probably one of the best E3s on record. What more do you want from it?

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I want companies to not do stupid shows and only give 5 second trailers to games. Especially not anual pieces of garbage that need to go away.

  • badmoogle

Mirror’s Edge 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition are what i’m looking forward the most from them.Really hope they show a gameplay trailer from ME2 and some new areas from DAI.

  • Azoz

That’s after I finish my final exams :)
    Can’t wait.

  • EX+

Well, looks like E3 is getting planned. Really can’t wait to see the likes of Sony and Nintendo at E3 (mainline Zelda Wii U please!).
As for EA, I suppose we’ll see the usual IOS bullshit, sports games, Mass Effect 4, Star Wars Battlefront gameplay and release window and hopefully some sort of gameplay for Mirror’s Edge 2.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Nintendo may mention in passing the new Zelda Wii U game. It is still probably too early for it.

      • EX+

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. 2 months. 2 long.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Indeed. I am just making predictions like anybody else. Sorry if I am bugging you with it.

          • EX+

Oh, don’t worry. I’m just saying that no one really knows and that E3 is just too far away. Them again, I think it’ll feel as if I was just typing up this comment to you to an hour ago.

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Yes, about FFXV probably. xD I make predictions man. Most disagree with them for whatever reasons.

              • EX+

Everyone has opinions. Some people try to spin them into facts. A lot of people actually. The way I see it, people are so used to listening to other people turn there opinions into facts which are usually false and/or subjective, so when they see someone typing up their opinion, they subconsciously see that person as someone who thinks their opinion is fact.

                • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

                  Mmm…

  • EX+

You know, we’re gonna have to prepare for almost 2 months of little to no info on anything major until E3.

    • DarkLegacy

Well E3 this year will be better. Only thing I thought was better at last year’s E3 was seeing FFXV and KH3 there

      • EX+

We’ll definitely see FF15 and KH2.5. If we’re even slightly lucky, KH3 as well. Because of Disney.

        • DarkLegacy

Yeah can’t wait to see KH2.5 there, KH3 and FFXV there. Any worlds you are excited to see at KH3?

          • EX+

Treasure Planet, Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles are a must, especially if we have to go to Agrabah. Treasure Planet deserves it, Monsters Inc. just got a prequel and the Incredibles 2 is actually happening.

            • DarkLegacy

Looks like I’m not the only one that wants to see Treasure Planet in KH3. Idk what worlds I want to see in KH3. I’ll have to watch some Disney movies instead of gaming all the time lol

              • EX+

Well, to be 100% honest, I think it would be completely acceptable to have every single world that’s been in the KH series aside from 2 or 3 meaningless ones (seriously Nomura, this is a Keyblade war, Winnie the Pooh has nothing to do in this game) and maybe 5 new ones. If Nomura goes beyond that, I suggest that he goes strictly with new worlds that belong in the KH universe, not Disney. I think that it’s time for some original places and characters to show up, especially since the Keyblade War will take place and end in this game. We can’t have too much light heartedness.

                • Solomon_Kano

While I get what you’re saying, I don’t think it’d be as interesting if they only went with KH-specific new worlds for KH3. Half the fun of the series, for me anyhow, is getting to explore the Disney worlds and interact with their inhabitants in the context of KH’s universe.

They wouldn’t necessarily need to forgo Disney worlds to make things a bit more serious. Disney isn’t without its dark spots, and that would work to their advantage to explore that. For their usual touch of Disney humor, Treasure Planet, Atlantis, and The Black Cauldron (actually criticized for lacking that humor) all get reasonably dark. Hell, should Nomura expand his view to TV, Gargoyles would suit that perfectly.

                  • Anime10121

                    So… Much…. POTENTIAL!!!

Especially if Disney keeps coming out with the stellar movies they’ve been dropping lately!

                    Treasure Planet
                    Atlantis

                    Tangled
                    Frozen
Hell even Princess and the Frog and Brother Bear could work
Then you have the vast array of Pixar films

KH3 has the potential to literally kill me with all its hype if they bring it the way they should!

                    • Solomon_Kano

Never mention Brother Bear in my presence again. Never. Again. Neverrrrr. Agaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiin.

Personally, I’ve never liked the idea of including Pixar when there’s so much left in Disney that they haven’t mined, but if they should go that way, there’s certainly no lack of material they could pull from for KH3.

                    • Anime10121

I didnt care much for the movie either (in fact, I’d put it right in the time frame of the crap Disney phase) but it does have its fans….

As far as Pixar goes, I’d MUCH rather them make it than Marvel/Star Wars… but even then, the only worlds from Pixar I really want to make it in are Toy Story and the Incredibles, which coincidentally seem to be the only Pixar movies I see working anyway :P

                    • Solomon_Kano

Awful movie. Saw it in theaters, hated it, then my mom bought it for me on DVD and I was just like D:

It’d certainly be the lesser of two evils, but I can’t see Nomura trying to incorporate Star Wars or Marvel anyway. If they ended up doing it, I definitely think Toy Story would fit. Incredibles, not so much. An Incredibles world would pretty much be a Marvel world.

                    • Anime10121

Yeah, it was bad (BB), though I still found it more tolerable to watch than Chicken Little, Home on the Range, or Bolt :/
But then again, I’ve only watched the movie once, and when I’m a Disney nut whos already watched Tangled and Frozen FAR more than a 26 yr old guy should in the short span of time they’ve been out should say something in and of itself :P

And about Marvel and Star Wars, Nomura started out by saying he felt they didnt belong, but recently changed tune to saying that he “might” if Disney ok’d it depending upon fan response :(

“An Incredibles world would pretty much be a Marvel world.”

But all da family focus :(
I think Mr. Incredible would have a lot of potential with the whole darkness of the heart thing, what with his bloated ego during one phase of the film.

                    • Solomon_Kano

I forgot Home on the Range even happened lol. Yeaaa, Disney had a real rough patch there.

                      > family focus

The Fantastic Four and Power Pack say hey :V

                    • Anime10121

Have no idea who Power Pack are :P

But Fantastic four…. well… it doesn’t FEEL like Disney-ish/Pixary enough, so THERE, THATS my argument and I’m sticking to it!

                    • Solomon_Kano

If you watched those terrible FF movies, yea, I’d imagine not lol.

So I’ll take that as a victory :V

              • Solomon_Kano

Definitely not the only one. I’ve been saying it (and Atlantis) are due for an appearance for years, so it’s nice to see some other people who’d like to see it.

                • DarkLegacy

Cool :D And yeah I’d also like to see Atlantis in the game too. Nearly forgot about that, but glad I remembered ^_^

            • Anime10121

              Wait, Incredibles 2 is happening?!

Y DID I NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!????????

              • Solomon_Kano

Announced last month. The wait is over — now the wait for it to actually come out is on! Pixar movies take about 4 years to make, so… orz

                • Anime10121

Thank the GODS, GOD, hell whoever and whatever, all is right in the world! Even though I’ll be 30 (or close to it) by the time it actually releases, you better believe I’ll be first in line to get a ticket :D

                  • Solomon_Kano

The original came out when I was in 4th grade, and I’ll be done with college by the time the sequel hits. Crazy stuff.

                • DarkLegacy

So does this mean that Incredibles 2 is going to be in KH3? If so then I’m more hyped

                  • Solomon_Kano

That’ll probably depend on which one comes out first and if Nomura goes for Pixar worlds.

                    • DarkLegacy

Ah gotcha. But yeah I’ll be hoping for a Pixar world in KH3, but depends if there is one that’s going to be in it

              • EX+

Like Solomon said, last month it was announced.

        • DarkLegacy

And also forgot to mention this, that’s if we will see a trailer to them

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

You think it will be better.*

        • DarkLegacy

Yeah. You don’t think it will?

          • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I like to keep my expectations low, so I am not as disappointed, and if something good happens I can be extremely overjoyed.

            • EX+

Smart. It’s the same I did with KH3. Last year there was a rumour that it’d be announced and I was like ‘Nope, not believing it’.
Then at E3 I saw the trailer. When the screen passed Re:COM I was just like ‘Ok this isn’t HD… wait what the fuck?!’ After the title I needed to go pee from all the excitement. That and because it was like 5 hours since I took a wiz at the time.

              • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

xD I literally flipped shit when I saw FFXV (Versus) and KH3.

                • EX+

When it came to Versus I was hip thrusting. You would think my reaction to KH3 would be more severe, but my hype level just overloaded.

                  • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

lol Uh that sounds really awkward actually.

  • DarkLegacy

This year’s E3 will be awesome

  • http://Gematsu.com Vayne

E3 is a western event, and western games are slow to launch, I prefer TGS.

    • Aaron Lee

      …what does that even mean?

TGS has given up being relevant lately anyway.

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

And E3 is relevant how? Big events like this are tanking because publishers are not bringing out their A-game.

        • Aaron Lee

If you said this during the cutback years of 2007-8 when it was genuinely irredeemably awful, perhaps.

And how is it not relevant? It remains widely talked about throughout the industry and despite its many ills and limitations with stall space and dedicated attention during conferences, the goods are generally brought out.

Plus June is the next mostly event for SE to show something substantial about FFXV again.

TGS unfortunately, I’ve had little but apathy for lately. You want to talk about a lack of A-game at E3, I direct you to TGS, where the chief game is mobile.

          • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I am not saying TGS is doing any better, but E3 is sucking too.

  • http://glassed.co.vu/ Deeboy

This year in games will rival movies for entertainment. I expect a lot of game adaptations from movie directors.

    • EX+

Most movies coming out in recent years have been crap anyway. Last time I was in a theatre was when Ride Along came out.

      • http://glassed.co.vu/ Deeboy

Wow. That’s bad overall. Hopefully starting next month we’ll see some big hits being released. Are you interested in seeing any of the new marvel or dc movies on the horizon?

        • EX+

Oh, yeah. I’m thinking about heading out and seeing Captain America the Winter Soldier. Definitely going to see TASM 2.

          • http://glassed.co.vu/ Deeboy

Ah man. I heard Capt was awesome I’m gonna head out and see it this weekend. A friend of mine said that it ties into agents of shield tv show also. I’m kicking off May to see TASM. Then X-men and Maleficent. After that TMNT, Transformers and Hercules the Rock version lol. There will be some amazing games releasing this year also. So my schedule will be booked all year round. Hehe

            • EX+

TMNT? I don’t know about you but it looks whack.

              • http://glassed.co.vu/ Deeboy

The kid in me. LOL. Its been a long time since I’ve seen a turtle movie. This one actually looks closer to the cartoon series than the last movies created.

I detest EA, but they have Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Mirror’s Edge and Star Wars under their wing, so I will have to continue supporting them in some way. =(
