A new Borderlands title set to fill the five year gap between the stories of Borderlands and Borderlands 2 will be announced soon, according to retailer GamePointsNow.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, as it’s reportedly titled, will be a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC title developed by 2K Australia and set on the Pandora moon of Elpis. Borderlands 2 villain Handsome Jack will appear in the game, but this time as his former humble programmer self John. You’ll play as one of his four lieutenants—Athena the Gladiator, Wilhelm the Enforcer, Nisha the Lawbringer, and the militarized claptrap Fragtrap.
A couple of these characters appeared previously in the series, with Athena debuting in the ‘General Knoxxx’ expansion for the first game, and Willhelm in Borderlands 2 as a boss character.
New weapon types, including laser weapons and Cyro class guns, are also being readied, it’s reported. And jet packs will also help you get around the moon’s low gravity surface. Oxygen will be lootable in the form of “OX Kits,” and when fighting enemies, destroying their helmets is another way of gaining an advantage.
PAX East is happening in Boston this weekend, and 2K Games and Gearbox will be in attendance. It’s possible, if this is true, we’ll hear about it there.
Thanks, NeoGAF.
