Plus, a few more screenshots to look at.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment

The Taiwanese version of Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment will have Japanese voiceovers, and subtitles in both Traditional Chinese and English, Namco Bandai Games Taiwan announced.

That means, even if Namco Bandai decides against localizing the game in North America and Europe, you’ll at least be able to play it in a language you understand.

The Taiwanese release is due out on May 29, just over a month later than the Japanese version, which is set for release on April 24.

View some screenshots from the Taiwanese version at the gallery. If you missed our latest update on the game, catch it here.

Fantastic news! I’m sure to get the game then, one way or another.

Will still wait for 6 months post JPN/Taiwan release if there might be localizations news for NA/EU.

    • dark-kyon

is gonna be a miracle what namco bandai put english sub in the taiwanese ver,but is gonna be a utopia believe what namco bandai can bring this game uncut to the westerns regions.

    • Renaldi Saputra

to NA/EU? nope, Bamco USA is notorious of not bringing any niche games

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

I have no idea where to import a Taiwanese version, maybe it’s the same as the Asian one

    • Merveilles Lespace

You can probably get it from a site like Play-Asia, if it’s anything like the other weird Asian games that get English translations.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

They have an Asian and Chinese version. No idea which would be considered as the Taiwanese one

        • SOforever
        • http://www.samuraiprincess.com Mr Fwibbles

No, the Asian version IS the Chinese version. Taiwan is considered part of China. Do remember that Japanese (region 2) and Asian (region 3) versions are different. Also, I recommend buying your Chinese (Asian) version games from yesasia.com as Play-Asia tends to be overpriced and their shipping takes forever.

          • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

            Ok thanks

          • sunK1D

Isn’t the Asian version the HK version? Chinese is Chinese and JP is JP.

            • http://www.samuraiprincess.com Mr Fwibbles

Hong Kong, Taiwan and China all get the same (“Asian”) version of games.

  • Anime10121

But I think thats just for the menu and hud’s though aint it? If the actual FULL game is subbed, story and all, I’d be super hype!!

You know whether the actual story parts are subbed too Sal?

    • DyLaN

I just checked out the linked article and it indeed says traditional chinese/english subtitles and menu.

  • Kayseur

I think I’ll wait for the actual release (or english footage) before assuming anything. I know the text does indeed say “Chinese / English”, but I’m still doubtful given those screens. The HUD is already mostly in english in the japanese version, so.

  • SOforever

Until there are more games on it buying a vita would be USELESS to me. Will look into getting this at a later date. Already bought 8BG vita memory card last year because it was on sale :)

  • SOforever

2GB was sufficient for my PSP. Including “download only exclusives” between mother and myself we have about 15 games between us (granted vita graphics are almost on par with PS3) MORE memory would be required this time

    • Kayseur

Some Vita games’ updates are quite big. You definitly wouldn’t be able to do much with 2GB on a Vita (then again, 2GB cards don’t even exist). I’ve got a 8GB on one of my Vita, I got to download two digital-only games (the Atelier) + another one, and that’s about it.

Even 8GB isn’t quite sufficient imo, and I don’t even have downloaded the PS+ games. (Because if you do subscribe to PS+, then 16 GB really is the minimum you need. 32GB is cool. And yet it’s still getting cramped in my 32GB. Though I do buy a lot personally.)

    • kurosan9712

Just an example, but for Vita even 8GB is barely enough.
4 is not nearly enough to buy games digitally. At least if you want to have more than 1 game at a time.

For example, Ciel no Surge, GUST’s waifu-game, yes. Itself+tech update(not the World Pack updates)=over 2GB digitally.
With all updates(World Packs) it goes over 4.5 GB.

Or games like Dream Club Zero Portable, or MoeMoe Daisensou Gendaiba~n++, which take nearly 3GB.

I totally need a 64GB MC, but, well, I buy games boxed, usually, and just don’t have any free money left to buy a memory card. I bought some games digitally, and that PSPlus(JP Plus is awesome) is just not giving up on giving me crap to download…
      Gotta do something about that.

      • TheExile285

8GB and 16GB are enough to buy retail games. If you are buying only DD games, you need a 32GB or 64GB.

        • kurosan9712

I buy both, and still 8GB isn’t enough to feel comfortable.

      • SOforever

for me 16GB on the vita would be OVER KILL and I certainly don’t need a 32GB card. I only get on PSN, Nintendo shop channel, and Xbox live when I NEED to :) ex: “sales”

Only game I have “data installed” is FF IV complete collection said to REDUCE load time but honestly I didn’t notice any

  • Jesse

So…why DOES the Taiwanese version has English subtitles? That’s pretty odd. =o

    • tubers

Also happened with Freedom Wars Taiwan Convention demo.. it had English subs.. Maybe it’s supposed to be treated as “South East Asia” version, for those that don’t read and write Chinese?

    • Renaldi Saputra

just like HongKong version of Digimon Adventure Anode/Cathode Tamer for wonderswan, it’s in english

    • Chestnut Bowl

The ‘Taiwan’ version is probably the SEA version.

  • kurosan9712

Just pray it won’t be GOOGLE english.

    • SOforever

      I don’t get it….

      • kurosan9712

I mean pray they don’t just translate the text with google translate.

        • Kayseur

Well, in a way, it’s better than nothing: you can’t usually google translate a game as it is since you can’t copy pasta the text easily.

But yes, I agree, that’d be cheap.

          • kurosan9712

I just remembered how mister Kojima translated MGSV Ground Zeroes to Russian. A pure google translate at work.

If he can, nothing can prevent others from doing it…

            • tubers

Russian? maybe that’s harder to translate in English.. or a less-priority market compared to English language?

Is Namco known for heavily botched translations aka Google Translate quality?

              • kurosan9712

It is certainly much harder, because majority of english sentences will have a totally different meaning, if translated straightly. Double meaning and all.

Namco, well, if THEY are doing it themselves – no, they’re not doing anything like that. Crap quality translations, name changes, over-adaptation – yes, but Google Translate quality – no.

                • tubers

Phew.. that’s good if NamDai handles it themselves.

              • Audie Bakerson

Take a look at the Gagharv trilogy and you’ll know Bandai is perfectly capable of utterly ruining a game in translation.

            • Audie Bakerson

With what Bandai did to the Gagharv trilogy just in terms of translation alone (not even getting into how it was released it out of order and ruined the combat), it’s not something I’d put beyond them.

        • SOforever

oh I see what ya mean now :) I used that on Yahoo Japan Auctions a few times

      • tubers

        wonky English subs..

try google translating some Chinese and JPN texts.. it’s not great.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Google translations for Japanese is broken, not sure about other languages

  • pixxxelz

    Alright! import time baby ;)

  • kurosan9712

Well, I’m still getting japanese one, though. Don’t want to wait(May has To-Love-ru Darkness: Battle Ecstasy and iM@S14A to play) and I understand japanese.
Wonder if it’ll be VitaTV compatible. I’d stream it then.

  • Manny Being Manny

Is there anywhere you can import the Taiwan version? I can only find Japanese and Chinese.

Also is it actually confirmed that the text is in English, not just menus? None of the screenshots actually show english story text.

  • TheExile285

Looking forward to playing this in May! ^_^

  • http://Gematsu.com Vayne

Compensate more go to Japan and buy the game there than in virtual store.

  • sunK1D

Great news! Taiwanese ver. it is.

    • jujubee88

Sure, if you can’t wait. Otherwise, I would wait at least a few weeks until the announce the digital version for America/EU.

      • http://www.youtube.com/user/playstationunity DXVII

LOL I doubt it, Tales games haven’t even come over, not to mention we missed out on games like One Piece and a few other titles.

        • Manny Being Manny

All of the other recent Toonami anime games from Bamco have been released over here, you know.

          • Kevadu

The first *and* last Vita game Bamco has released in the west was Ridge Racer. Yeah, the super lazy shitty launch title. They haven’t released a single Vita game in the west since. Not their flagship titles like Tales or God Eater. Not even multiplatform games that were being released on other platforms so they were already translated. You think they could at least do a digital release, but no.

Do you seriously think they’re gong to localize this?

            • Manny Being Manny

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z was released a couple months ago on Vita.

              • Renaldi Saputra

DBZ is a shueisha game, and major one
they will always bring naruto one piece and dragon ball game overseas bcos they had made contract

                • tubers

                  Is op uwr a bam
co game? That’s getting localized right?

                  • Renaldi Saputra

                    what did u just say?

edit: oh unlimited world, yes it got localized.. and bamco game

                    • tubers

Cool. Hope there is a chance 4 for this oneone as well.

                    • Budgiecat

One Piece is only recent though:

they skipped on One Piece Gigant Battle 1 & 2, all three One Piece Unlimited Cruise games, and PSP version of One Piece RPG

                    • Renaldi Saputra

not localizing the PSP version is reasonable, though

                    • Luffink

What do you mean? Unlimited Adventure was released in America, and the four Cruise games were released too, at least in Europe

            • Budgiecat

Well no one in a million years would have predicted Saint Seiya Brave Soldiers, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle, and yes, even One Piece Unlimited World RED to be localized but here they are so… guess anything can be possible…

              except Gundam….

              • Renaldi Saputra

Gundam have no chance at all except gundam musou series

anything can be possible indeed, only if you’re willingly ask Bamco directly on their conferences or struggling by at least making petition with good numbers

but SAO had license issue, it’s dengeki series, not shueisha

            • http://www.infernalmonkey.com Infernal Monkey

Hmm? They released Dragonball Z: Battle for Z in January. Physical for Europe/Australia etc., digital for America.

They also picked up the publishing rights to WRC 3 and MotoGP 13 for Vita in America.

Plus One Piece: Unlimited World RED was confirmed a few weeks back.

              • Renaldi Saputra

One Piece and DragonBall are shueisha game, they had made contract with them

SAO is dengeki series, sure licensing is needed again. Also being exclusively on PS Vita hurts so much.. DBZ and One Piece are multi-platforms

      • Kevadu

        Hah! Nice one!

        …oh wait, you’re serious…

        • jujubee88

Get a hold of this jerk! :P

          • jujubee88

Also, sorry but not everyone knows about this whole Konami sardonic sense of humor thing.

Even still, it never hurts anyone to wait a little. At worst you delay the enjoyment for an odd week and if for sure no news comes, you can import this and play it and enjoy it from any other import friendly shop.

So let’s chill. Every things going to be fine!

edit: I said Konami, I meant Namco Bandai (I scrolled up to check after writing this).

            • Budgiecat

              Konami is even worse…

              • jujubee88

Which VITA games have they published?

            • nougard

So what’s the difference between waiting and just buying the game? If you’re worried about DLC there are a lot of online shop who sells Reg 3 PSN voucher.

              • jujubee88

Huh? I’m saying wait in case the publisher suddenly decides to publish it on the PSN of your region (presumably you live in US or EU).

                • nougard

And it doesn’t matter if it is if the game has English subtitle on Taiwanese version.

Even by some miracle Bamco decided to give it western release do you think it’ll come out in weeks after without prior announcement? lol

      • Renaldi Saputra

        they won’t

  • DarthBrian

    woot! ^_^

  • MrKappa

Seems a bit misleading, I doubt the entire game will be in English but probably just the menus.

    • Renaldi Saputra

the menus had been in english since japanese vers

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

What’s misleading? Under specs it says:

[Game Language] Voice: Japanese | Subtitles: Traditional Chinese, English.

  • Kami nii

W8 so there is and english ver. which will be sold on may 29? correct me if I’m wrong cause I already pre-ordered a limited edition one and I’m looking forward to playing this

edit: and wtf man why not just announce an NA version!!

    • Renaldi Saputra

      Bamco USA hates PS Vita

      • Kami nii

I really hate to say this but they really suck at localizing games they don’t take risk like atlus, Look at conception 2 I was under the impression that no one would localize it and yet atlus took the risk and it equals to my purchase and respect to them as a developer and publisher

        • Renaldi Saputra

that’s the truth, Bamco are not kind

we even have to struggle hard to get a digimon game

          • Budgiecat

I hate to say this (because UGH… GUNDAM), but

Bamco is at least better than Sega and Konami…

            • Renaldi Saputra

Sega is still localizing project diva series, for Konami, yes

              • Budgiecat

                Right, but Sega still ignores:

                Valkyria Chronicles 3
                Shining Hearts
                Shining Blade
                Shining Ark
                Phantasy Star Online 2
                Yakuza HD Collection
                Yakuza 5
                Yakuza Ishin
Shenmue HD Collection (was listed once)
And granting Yu Suzuki access to making Shenmue III

                • Renaldi Saputra

                  Namdai still ignores:

                  Kurobas series
                  Summon Night series
Digimon Adventure, Lost Evo, Super Xros Wars
                  Gundam series
                  Tales PS Vita
                  Toriko series
                  Magi series
                  Kamen Rider series
                  and many more

        • greenreaper

Don’t forget NIS. Those guys are my heroes when it comes to localizing games like this.

          • Kami nii

Yeah Love the Neptunia Series BTW :D hope they have plans for Rebirth 1 and Noires game, I’m playing Sisters generation right now and so far so good :)

          • Renaldi Saputra

            NISA are 3rd party

  • Renaldi Saputra

for those who want english version, at least PS Vita games aren’t region locked, you gotta check the taiwanese vers first whether the dialogue is in english or not

  • Learii

I hope they located eng version to NA

    • Renaldi Saputra

they won’t, Bamco USA hates Vita
      you can just import it

      • nougard

They hate it so much they ported a 3DS game for it on the west.

        • Renaldi Saputra

porting to 3ds? what game did you talk about?

          • nougard

Ported a 3DS game FOR it.

            Unlimited Red.

            • Renaldi Saputra

              I see
              that’s being a multi-platform game
for localizing exclusive PS Vita game, I think they won’t do it

              • nougard

That’s something that even the Japanese didn’t get by the way.

        • OverlordZetta

Doesn’t change the fact that they hate it.

It’s an odd move for sure, but an exception to the rule doesn’t change the rule.

          • nougard

I don’t care about such subjective word like “hate” to describe it. Say that they make few game for Vita or whatever, but hate is pretty silly and uninformative to describe a faceless company competing for maximum profit.

By the way, one of their highest selling game is on Vita right now.

  • lorelai4cuties

cool… so where we can pre order the taiwanese vers?

  • Budgiecat

    Eng subs??

    import ANIME game??

    BandaiNamco??

    What wizardry is this???

    • TheExile285

      Lol

  • ArgleBargle

I think my post got eaten but advance apologies if this is a double-post; does the character creator mean we don’t have to play as kirito (even if the character is functionally still the same) because that might actually get me to play the game

    • Renaldi Saputra

we play as kirito, but in different fashion

      • ArgleBargle

        Boooo oh well

  • nougard

Bamco, please do this for Digimon Slu- Sleuth too.

    • Renaldi Saputra

seems we will ONLY got Re:Digitize Decode in the end :(

      • nougard

        Huh what? source?

        • Renaldi Saputra

          http://www.change.org/petitions/namco-bandai-games-europe-america-localize-digimon-world-re-digitize-decode-for-3ds

this petition almost get 25k numbers, and Bamco had ever said that they will consider the localization if it eventually gets 25-30k petition numbers

          • nougard

So it’s still “uh yeah… maybe? lol” :/

            • Renaldi Saputra

about 50-85% chance they will do it

              • nougard

Not seeing it, but I’m happy for you.

                • Renaldi Saputra

just hopefully Bamco won’t lie even though they’re not kind..
they even had granted direct request of localizing both JoJo and Saint Seiya on PS3

    • Chestnut Bowl

Actually paying for this first would make for a more convincing argument.

      • nougard

I would but only if it’s really full english first.

  • Jonnie Lee

hey guys, dont misunderstand, the Taiwanese version will be in CHINESE with english for the menus only. they mean a mix of chinese and english, they don’t mean an option for chinese OR english text in-game.

    • Jesse Lawrence

idk bout that it says it’ll be subtitled in both chinese and english. otherwise they would say the menu will be mix. dont try to crush peoples hopes when you yourself have no idea ;)

    • TheExile285

The link says English menus and dialog though.

  • Splinter

    TGVIRF

(Thank God Vita Is Region Free)

  • Luffink

Now… where can we buy this version? Play-Asia has a chinese version that comes out in May, but I’m not sure if it’s the same or not

  • Demetrius

i contacted Play-Asia, they just update SAO Hollow Fragment…
    Pre-order fast guys :D

    • Ruza

      taiwanese version?

    • Demetrius

asian (chinese) it has in play-asia
it is write in title game (English and Chinese)

  • Aristides

0-0 My god, this sounds almost too good to be true! I must have this!

  • MitsukiIX

Its only the menu’s and story subtitle.

    • AlphaSixNine

isn’t that… all of it? lol

      • CrimsonDivide

Items might not be but I won’t care about that if i understand the menus I can do an item translation search

  • Skipper Smahon

Does anyone know if there will be a limited edition for the Taiwanese version?

    • Arthur Cheng

I’ve heard there won’t be, due to the hassle of having to transate the specials also.
