God of War III and inFAMOUS: Second Son leads depart.

Stig Asmussen

Two notable developers have left Sony.

Earlier in the day, James Griesemer, lead designer on the Friday-due inFAMOUS: Second Son, confirmed he left Sucker Punch Productions.

“I’m excited for people to get their hands on it,” Griesemer said on Twitter. “And yes, I have left SP. Not really talking about it yet, tho.”

And now, sources at IGN have confirmed Stig Asmussen, director of God of War III, has left Sony Santa Monica Studio.

Asmussen was purportedly working on a new IP at the studio, which might have been cancelled as a result of recent layoffs at the company. He is now reportedly interviewing at several studios for a new position.

Wow…wassup with all these developers leaving??

    • Pekola

Sony is laying people off left and right. Their financial situation isn’t great and they’re probably cutting their losses on excess people high-up that take juicy paychecks.

Either that, or they announced a direction quite a few people didn’t like.

I wish someone would come forward and just blow the lid on what’s going on.

Tretton left too, so there’s got to be something to the fact that parent Sony’s belt-tightening isn’t setting well with these ‘movers and shakers’ in SCEWWS, and they take the option to leave now and try to make more elsewhere.

      They were forced out.

But legends come and go right? If there is a start, there is an end too. I thought it was only Japanese developers but even Western developers are on the same situation.

      … I miss WestWood Studios =(

      • 武神水樹

        EA bought them right?

  • Six

It’s pretty obvious why Asmussen left. Sony canned his project.

Makes you wonder what is going on at SSM.

Whats up with every employee leaving video game companies?

  • 武神水樹

Not a big deal , as long as they still make games doesn’t matter where they end up

Before Stig took over Cory Balrog was in charge of God of War 2, Cory left and is now back at SSM

At least we still have KazYama, Nate Fox, Barlog, Toyama, and Druckman so it’s all good.

    Right. guys? R-RIGHT?

    • bloodiOS

No skin off our noses so yeah, we’re fine.

      • jujubee88

        I don’t get what that cliche implies . . .

    • Elvick

There’s no shortage of talented people in this industry.

      • jujubee88

True. I can see a couple of creative leads being let go in order to complete a circle of life, letting new ideas in, etc.

But I wonder if it also isn’t financials or something like that.

    • blank059

Shame that Ueda left, best developer.

  • Lalum

Now Stig can go back to Top Gear.

  • 武神水樹

Wouldn’t be surprised though if his game got canned though, Sony’s wallet isn’t as full as it used to be

Stig probably got pissed off that the guy who he replaced is getting funding and he’s not

    Just my guess

  • shogunknight

    Seriously, what is going on?

  • Money?Muney??All my luveee!!!

Whats with all these recent news developers leaving Sony studio here???

I know that Sony is not really doing well recently but laying off many people who have become the foundation of ur studio is surely not a good thing right?

  • Pyrofrost

    Hell yeah!
    Clean the fucking house Sony!

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

What’s next more Microsoft Producers leaving the company?
