Side-scrolling shoot 'em up lands April 1.

Mercenary Kings

Mercenary Kings will launch for PlayStation 4 on April 1 and March 25 on PC via Steam, developer Tribute Games announced.

In the side-scrolling shoot ’em up, players will choose between Empress and King, two members of an elite squad known as the Mercenary Kings, who must rescue the brilliant Dr. James Neil from the forces of C.L.A.W. (Cyber Loyalist Active Weapons), and prevent them from using the Mandrake Formula to take over the world.

Players can play on their own, or via four-player online or online co-op. Throughout the game, you’ll gather over 300 gun parts and over 100 knives, which you can use to enhance and forge weapons.

I’m so ready. Been itching for some Metal Slug and SNK isn’t scratching, so this should do fine. Loved Scott Pilgrim.

Sigh. It looks like the the Metal Slug for 2013 SNK were teasing back at the end of 2012 was just a pachinko game.

This game may not replace my love for Metal Slug series but this game looked good on it’s own which is why I’m interested.

      • Solomon_Kano

That “great charge” was a pachinko game? Welp. Someday, SNK will bring us a new MS. Someday…

        • z_merquise

I’m hoping for that but if there would be one, it’s going to take a long while.

Gonna grab it on PC, but I really hope they consider a Vita version at some point.

So shocked shahid hasn’t stroke s deal wth them…

Since securing indies is all he’s good for.

        • Six

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

          • Unretributed

It is when he hypes the hell out of them like he’s about to announce something of major significance.

Did you forget about all the hype surrounding the “Super Frog HD” announcement already?

First he was talking about how he’s been trying to get in talks with some big third parties, then he hypes up everybody up with teases, and then- Super Frog HD.

On the PS blog, they responded to someone wanting it on the Vita. They said that they hope to bring it to Vita eventually. How long it’ll be? Dunno, but it’s nice to see the interest.

      • Six

Sounds like the same response Lab Zero gave when asked about Skullgirls on Vita.

Hopefully all the devs who are flirting with indie ports make the jump. The Vita audience isn’t very big, but we buy lots of games.

        • Sevyne

Damn right we do! I think I have somewhere over 60 games for my Vita now. Might have to recount since it’s been a while.

I think a few devs are starting to finally realize that Vita has a pretty high attach rate for games. We’re slowly getting them devs on board.

  • z_merquise

This is the closest thing I’ll have for a Metal Slug game so I’m going to get this maybe on the PC. But personally, I’ll prefer playing this in Vita so I hope they’ll release it there.

    And Sal:
“Players can play on their own, or via four-player online or online co-op.”

    Or do you mean “offline”?

If you are looking for some side-scrolling shootbang on the Vita, while not quite like Metal Slug, you should look into Broforce.

      • z_merquise

Can’t watch it now (I’m still at work) but I just started reading about this game and damn, it looked so hilarious and fun!

And there are talks of putting that game to Vita too. Thanks for the suggestion.

I just watched it. I’m really going to get this game either PC or maybe wait longer for the Vita version.

      • Sevyne

Really can’t wait for this game!

    • Elvick

I don’t know what’s with some publishers. With the digital game space, you’d think series like Metal Slug, Mega Man, etc. would be supported like wild fire…

      Yet, we get jack shit.

Oh, and while I’m here, I might as well post the awesome trailer they put out a while ago.

  • PrinceHeir

The reason i bought Scott Pilgrim vs The World PSN game is because of the artstyle and music, that and they were offering an Ultimate Edition that have all the DLCs.

Just seeing it in motion is one of the gorgeous games ever made.

And that first stage song!!! Another Winter song sealed the deal with me.

I hope they released a Vita version seeing i have no plans on buying a PS4 anytime soon.

Also where’s Scott Pilgrim and Sam & Max on mah Vita!?!?!

    • z_merquise

The songs of chiptune rock band Anamanaguchi (who made the songs in the Scott Pilgrim game) are really catchy.

    • Six

I just learned that Scott Pilgrim isn’t even on PC.

This game has been available for a long, long time over Steam. I bought it almost 8 months ago.
