Soul Sacrifice Delta debuts at 48,000 sales.

Soul Sacrifice Delta

Soul Sacrifice Delta leads this week’s Media Create sales figures. The PS Vita update debuted in Japan at nearly 49,000 sales, and pushed PS Vita hardware sales an additional 10,000 units from last week.

Gust PlayStation 3 RPG Ar no Surge is the only other new game to make the charts this week. The game opened at 27,000 sales.

PlayStation 4 remains on top in the hardware category, but at 35,000 sales moved half the amount of units it sold last week.

Vita and SSD are doing fine, but the number doesn’t impress me.

    • Stealth

They do not impress me either. 3DS has big releases today and tomorrow in Japan, so that should boost things, but still terrible.

  • MrKappa

Considering that Delta is an upate release I think it did fairly well.
Ar no Surge on the other hand bombed so damn hard, what the hell happened?
I don’t but are such numbers the normal for the past Ar Tonelico games?

    • Sal Romano

Ar Tonelico 3 opened at 85,776.

I dunno about 1 and 2. They’re not on the PS2 top 238 list here – – but the opening week for the 238th game was 102,045. So Ar Tonelico 1 and 2 opened somewhere below that.

    • Pyrofrost

According to old media create charts I dug up

      [PS2] Ar Tonelico (Banpresto) – 54,289 / NEW
      [PS2] Ar Tonelico 2 (Banpresto) – 72,365 / NEW

Sal was correct about it being under 102k

      • Sal Romano

Thanks. So yeah, Ar Tonelico 3 was the best selling during opening week then. And Ar no Surge is the worst selling.

        • Pyrofrost

          Np, and I forgot one:

[PSV] Ciel no Surge – 33,324 / NEW

So yep, Ar no Surge is the worst selling entry thus far.

    • TetsuyaHikari

What the hell happened? What do you mean? Gust doesn’t exactly push out big numbers.

    • aquagon

Because the chart only takes in account sales figures from 3/3 to 3/9, and Ar nosurge was released on 6th. Give it some more time, as the game doesn’t even have a full week since its release.

And by the way, Famitsu has a more updated report on its sales, putting it up to 30,544 copies sold so far (with an average review score of 8.0 of 10). Source:

  • crimsonidol

That week is rather unimpressive and it’s somehow sad to see how Ar No Surge bombed.

  • Vayne

Japanese are tired of playing video games just seeing the amount of games sold.

    • TetsuyaHikari

This is always a slow time of the year in Japan (this quarter anyway). Wait until the Summer and Winter (sometimes even the Fall), then you’ll see things back to normal.

    • Budgiecat

the only games that have ridiculous ‘sales’ in Japan are the f2p mobage games….because….well they have a low entry (being free and all).
With half the population of the U.S. and less ‘mainstream focus’ games, Japanese console and handheld games will never be at the sales level of AAA Western titles.
Certainly not if they keep catering mostly to just the Otaku market and moving to iOS

  • Anime10121

    Ar NoSurge’s sales :(

And who the hell keeps buying Knack? Dont they get the game for free? 17k copies :/

    • TetsuyaHikari

I thought it only came free with the console? Are you suggesting they should buy the console just for the game? >.>

      • Anime10121

Yeah, it comes free only with the console, I’m not suggesting they buy the console for the game, but it just seems kinda counter intuitive doing the reverse also. Knacks an ok game, but its not THAT good, where its the type of game you run out to buy when you dont have anything to play it on…

    • bloodiOS

It’s only free for the limited-time bundles, and those are all gone now.

  • Pyrofrost
  • SuperLuigi

What annoys me about this list is they separate the 3ds models but not the psvita models? I dont think the oled model is discontinued in Japan is it?

    • Stealth

They combined that one for some reason.

    • Sal Romano

It’s probably because the 3DS models actually have different commercial names, whereas the PS Vita models only have different SKU names. (PCH-2000/1000.)

  • TheExile285

Well…. I was hoping SSD would sell well…. I guess in a way, it did :/

  • 武神水樹

    Horrible numbers

    • TetsuyaHikari

Horrible, but expected. There were only two new releases and it’s a slow time of the year for them as it is. Just take a look at last year’s numbers at around this time. Yes, there were some bigger names then, but overall… Nothing to really boast about in that week.

  • Elvick

Another raise in PS Vita TV. Slightly larger this time.

Wish we knew how many PS4’s were out in the wild in Japan. Hard to really see how it’s doing without context. Is it still sold out/out of stock a lot of places? Does anyone know?

Glad to see another Vita boost. Shame SS Delta didn’t open bigger.

    • Stealth

      PS4 is completely in stock.

      • AdamBoy64

If you don’t mind my asking, have you got a source for that?
        That’s quite interesting.

        • Stealth

According to neogaf, there are no supply issues with PS4. They are pretty much available in every retailer.

      • Elvick

PS4 is completely out of stock.

Tada, I can say things too. Yay internet.

  • Shaun Huseman

Man, Japan needs to pick up the console game. I mean, seriously, at this rate, if it stayed even, after 5 years the PS4 would be at 10 million sold, which is half of what the PS2 has been in Japan, though for like twice the amount of time. I just want the PS4 to do well in Japan so we actually see some big JRPG’s coming out over here

    • Manny Being Manny

Would you buy a system full of niche titles? Thats kinda how Japan is viewing consoles now… the big AAA Western games are niche for the most part and they are dominating the whole console landscape now. Japanese oriented games normally go to handhelds

    • articuzwolf

someone correct me if i’m wrong…

last time I checked PS4 already outsold its initial shipment…
      the supply itself is constrained
so, not so bad considering the lineup that they currently have atm…

  • artemisthemp

Sony announce Soul Sacrifice Delta western release date soon and get ready to swim in money

    • TetsuyaHikari

…You really think anything selling on a dead handheld in the West is really going to have them swimming in money? If anything, they’d be pissing their money down the toilet.

      • artemisthemp

        Dead Console?
The Vita is getting minimum 1 new game every month, some months even 2 or more.

        • TetsuyaHikari

For starters, I said it’s a dead handheld in the West. Secondly, just because you release games on a console doesn’t mean it’s successful. The PSP kept getting games in North America, but everyone and their mom knew it was dead.

The sales for Vita titles are god awful in the West at best. Now, I don’t mean to badmouth the Vita here at all. Hell, I have one myself actually, but… I’m also not going to pretend the reality of the situation is better than it is either.

  • Pekola

    No PS4 y dis.

Only Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts can save you in Japan.

    • Elvick

There’s no context for PS4 sales. Could be no one wants one, could be sold out a lot of places.

  • Eder García

    lazy week imo,
once the games Japan only cares arrives, the PS4 will get those dream numbers. WiiU’s keeping at 8k per week is outstanding. im sad with the 3DS hardware games.

  • Six

Well, it looks like the whole “it’ll be the PS2 all over again guys, just you wait and see!” thing isn’t going to happen.

  • Shippoyasha

Awesome for the Vita to finally top 3DS for once. Extremely happy for Soul Sacrifice as well.

    • Stealth

      Vita did not top 3ds.

      • TetsuyaHikari

Hey, Nintendo fanboy. Check the numbers again. The total numbers for Vita were higher than 3DS this time.

Relax. Your precious Nintendo is still leading the handheld market.

        • AdamBoy64

He means the 3DS + 3DS LL figures. Both 3DS models.
That’s how I interpreted the comment.

          • TetsuyaHikari

Well, he could have included 3DS LL in his statement. Regardless, he’s always doing shit like this anyway. It gets old pretty fast.

            • Stealth

Always doing shit like what? providing fact?

              • TetsuyaHikari

                Providing fanboyism.

                • Stealth

Before you address me again, you might want to get your anger issues worked on

          • Stealth

Exactly. Love it how that moron throws out the fanboy name calling without actually looking at the figures himself.

        • Stealth

Using insulting names when you know your wrong is the height of trolling. Get a life.

          • TetsuyaHikari

Insult names? Oh, I’d hardly consider calling you a fanboy an insult. It’s what you are and you obviously take pride in it (go ahead, guys, check his profile and you’ll see plenty of posts where he’s mocking other companies while putting Nintendo on a pedestal, heh).

Oh and I believe the word you’re looking for is “you’re” by the way. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go get a life now.

            • Stealth

You are right. You do not have a life if all you do is troll other users when you do not like the content of their posts.

  • Stealth

All 3DS needs is about 10k to go over PS4, but in reality all these hardware figures are beyond suck.

The only shining light is software. Software is selling

    • TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, we get it. They’re all failing. You know, for once… I wish you would come into one of these articles without giving a backhanded compliment. At the end of the day, it always amounts to the same thing for you.

You say everything sucks, then you point out how Nintendo is better in some way, and then (here’s the real kicker) you say they still suck too, yet we all know… You’re just a Nintendo fanboy hiding behind your absurd insults, trying to make people think you’re neutral, when really… You are waaaaaaaay beyond that point.

      • Stealth

Why should I give a compliment if none of the hardware is actually selling well?

Why would you want me to be anything other than 100% honest?

Exactly how does that make one a fanboy? 3DS is the glimmer of hope in a dismal situation and it is doing dismally. That doesnt make one a fanboy. You throw out that term to liberally.

I own every system. I really do not care what you think to be perfectly honest. Grow up and take your personal attacks elsewhere.

        • TetsuyaHikari

Oh, so I guess saying all of them suck and putting Nintendo on top while claiming it sucks too isn’t being a fanboy? Haha. You really think you’re clever hiding behind your little smokescreen there, don’t you? You’re way out of your league here, man.

You want to badmouth companies, that’s fine. Don’t think that owning “every system” justifies your behavior though. I’ve seen your posts time after time again and you’re like clockwork.

In every last one of these articles, you just come in and talk about how bad everything is, then put Nintendo on a pedestal and pretend to think they suck too, even though deep down… You’re as transparent as glass, man. Obvious fanboy is obvious. That’s all I’ll say on the matter.

          Good day~

          • Stealth

When did I put Nintendo on Top? (I am afraid I am dealing with someone with dellusions and severe anger issues)
