Dark Souls II tops this week's Japanese sales.

Dark Souls II

Dark Souls II leads this week’s Japanese sales chart. The PlayStation 3 version took top sales at 255,197, while the Xbox 360 version charted at 14 with almost 6,000 sales.

Yokai Watch took second place with an additional 37,000 units. Its high position on the chart so long after release proves the anime is fairing well for the franchise.

On the hardware side, PlayStation 4 sales are still leading with almost 30,000 moved, but are 5,000 down from last week. We imagine it’ll see a jump next week with Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes launching on Thursday. PS Vita sales follow at 28,000, and 3DS XL at 23,000.

    Bravo DSII

  • bloodiOS

Oh yeah! Dark Souls II! Slightly below the first one but still good. The Xbox 360 version actually charted this time. From Software, please, make an enhanced port for the PS4.
[EDIT] 8th-gen hardware keeps on dropping, eh?

    • crimsonidol

Nope, the good ol’ PS3 and PSP sold more units. :D

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

I wouldn’t be too excited for that PSP 40 unit increase

  • Unretributed

You have Puzzle and Dragon’s release date as “12/12/31”.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

It’s a game from the future.

      Fixed. =P

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

    Why does MS still bother

    • bloodiOS

      Bother what?

Selling their game products in Japan

        • 罪罰

          because they can.

        • Six

Gonna copypaste a great post from Zackasaur that explains why they do this.

“It’s a symbolic move. They will do horribly in Japan, but it’s -symbolic- that people in all/most developed nations have access to the console. Japan is important in gaming culture.”

  • David Curry

Just a friendly reminder that PS4 costs the same as PS1 and PS2 did at their respective launches, 39,800 yen.

  • sherimae1324

vita keeps doing well, i liked that ^_^

    • jujubee88

What’s one of the next big VITA titles coming? FW is one of them coming in a few months …

      • Six

Project Diva F 2nd, though that is also on PS3. There is also that SAO game next month.

I think by far the biggest upcoming Vita game is Phantasy Star Nova, but it doesn’t have a date yet other than “2014”.

        • jujubee88

SAO, eh? That is quite a big deal (especially if marketed right; I could see it doing better than SSD).

Hmmm. When does Miku 2nd come out on VITA again?

          • Six

            The 27th of this month.

            • jujubee88

Ok. If there’s a special edition VITA 2k, there will be a hw bump 4 sure.

      • Kayseur

I actually think Kantai Collection could sell well. Sure you can play it for free on a computer, but you can get Puzzle & Dragons for free on a smartphone as well. Yet it did really well on 3DS.

Though PazuDora has more than 17 millions users, while Kankore “only” has 2 million, there’s still some potential. (Plus, accessing the game on a computer means going through a lottery, not having it on the Vita might be a good seller-point.)

        • jujubee88

I’ll keep an eye out for that and those.

  • new_tradition

I personally wasn’t interested in Ar no Surge, but I still thought it would do better by now :/

    • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

      Game looks weird

      • kurosan9712

        But…it’s actually good.
Well, it has that big flaw of relying on it’s predecessor(Ciel no Surge) to explain everything like character connections and most of character interactions(well, there are character interactions in this one too, just that you probably should know what was before it). Ciel no Surge also plays a big role in explaining Ar no Surge story events, as well as the idea used in it is used again to restore someone’s memory. Ar no Surge also explains what is Ciel no Surge exactly.
Oh, and that focus on that “Seven Dimension” thing. It’s a bit not for starters to understand.
The game itself, however, is very good. Gameplay, Genometrics(replacement of Cosmosphere. though, lol, in one of the Genometrics Delta calls it a Cosmosphere anyways), characters, music(yes, again, despite the similarities, I like this one’s music, and don’t like Ar Tonelico’s music), pretty much everything.

I’ve enjoyed platinuming it a lot.

        • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Ahh I should try it then, sometimes when I don’t play a game and just use video to judge it I make a mistake.

It happened to me with Soul Sacrifice

  • http://Gematsu.com Vayne

I wonder why the VITA is getting more game that 3DS this year?

    • TheExile285

      It’s not though.

      • sherimae1324

it is. havent you a daily enthusiast here in gematsu and other various websites?
you should knew that there are a lot more games coming/announced for the ps vita than the 3ds may it be indies or jp games
“hotaru no niki” and some 2 other vita games announced the other day and also last week
add those indies and apps that been announced at gdc
i may say the vita is getting more and more attention
what it only needs are some big hiiting AAA titles which most of you complains about…

        • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Indie games are boring for me, don’t know how much impact they’ll have

        • British_Otaku

I haven’t really noticed the quantity of Vita games relative to the 3DS even as a frequent visitor here and on other sites, both systems have dozens of games for me to pick up so it doesn’t really matter and unique experiences for me to pick up too.

        • Six

I’d take a library of niche JP titles and indie games over shrunken-down AAA experiences any day.

          But that’s just me.

          • MrFinalgamer

But Uncharted, and Killzone were great! D:

        • doc.exe

The Vita has finally gained traction in Japan, finding its niche and pretty much taking the place of the PSP as the dedicated platform for Japanese games. Nevertheless, that also means Japan is very likely going to be the only country where it becomes relevant. So yeah, pretty much like its predecessor.

    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Definitely isn’t in terms of exclusives. It shares 85% of its library with PS3.

      • jujubee88

Name all the games coming out and how many are on PS3 too, than I will believe that stat. Otherwise, your bias is showing.

        • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

          J stars
          Sen No Kiseki
          SRW
          Miku

Like I said 85% of Vitas biggest titles are on PS3 too.

          • Six

Freedom Wars, the SAO game, Phantasy Star Nova and Digimon Story.

Even if I’m overstating the importance of SAO and Digimon, you are still wrong.

            So… yeah.

            • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

5 games and I am wrong?

              Gundam – Both
              Sly collection – both
god of war collection – both
              jak collection – both
              ratchet nexus – both

There are more games on PS3/Vita, than just vita alone.

That is why it hasnt moved units in any region really other than Japan.

              • Six

I thought we were just talking about Japan here, seeing as how this is a topic about Media Create, but whatever.

                • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Star Nova has no release date even so it is really 4……That really is not something to write home about.

                  • Six

So, it doesn’t count because it doesn’t have a date other than “2014”?

                    That’s pretty stupid.

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

It has a release date of TBD……..Sure it would count if there was evidence it was coming out in 2014.

All I am saying is Vita’s library while good. In terms of exclusives, it is lacking, and that is the reason why a pretty good system is not taking off at all anywhere.

                    • Six
                    • jujubee88

I’m enjoying the VITA. You don’t, but that’s nothing new. You hate all things Sony, it seems.

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

                      What?

                    • jujubee88

                      lol

            • Kayseur

If we’re not talking about “quality” and just exclusive games, you can even add much more to the list.
Love Live, Garupan, To love, Corpse Party, Hotaru no Nikki, the CH titles (Trillion-something, Black Heart…), Over my Dead body, Dekamori SK, IA/VT, Danganronpa Another, and maybe others I’ve forgotten.

Sure they might not be what the west want or AAA titles, but hey, there are people who enjoy them (like me), so whatever.

              • Six

I was just listing games that would be considered “big” for Vita.

But yeah, there is tons of stuff coming out for it. It’s great for people who love more niche and mid-tier Japanese titles and indie games.

          • Six

Oh, and Persona 4 Dancing All Night.

          • jujubee88

Yeah, and you didn’t list them all. You just named some VITA games and than said 85%, that’s not how math works.

      • http://kazriko2.tumblr.com Kazriko Redclaw

Does it really matter? If a game is available for both platforms, I’ll buy it for the PSVita every time. PS3 is a legacy console now, and I only buy exclusives on it that won’t eventually come to Vita or PS4.

Soul Sacrifice delta selling decently and PS Vita holding up as well.
    :D

    • jujubee88

I can’t wait to play it when it comes overseas. I haven’t heard of a localization date though.

  • Six

    Dem GTAV legs.

  • SuperLuigi

Dang 3DS and almost Vita have passed PS4 already. Sony needs some Japanese influenced games on PS4 sooner than later.

    • Al Buns

PS4 is number one. What are you talking about? Duh PS4 needs Jap games but still on top.

      • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

        PS4 is actually number 3.

      • SuperLuigi

Add the two 3ds models you get 34,144. If you add the vitas you get 29,717.

        • almostautumn

          *yawnnnnnnnnnnn*

          • AdamBoy64

Yep, business as usual for Nintendo.
            Good stuff.

      • OlimacFTW

It is sad when people doesn’t know how to do math.

  • Pyrofrost

Damn, no “DOOOMED!” posts yet? O_O
This is a surprise, as it was becoming a weekly affair.

Anywho, It’s kinda sad to see Ar no Surge hasn’t gotten a real push :(
Maybe people are just tired of the universe and want something new.
I will be playing mine sometime after I finish my current game.

  • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Yokai watch is a beast. 3DS regained the overall top spot like I thought it might.

We will see how Mario Party Does.

    “2. PlayStation Vita – 28,270 (31,325)”
    “3. 3DS LL – 23,372 (24,192)”

…Is this real? Brb going to Siliconera to find out Ishaan’s reactions.

    • bloodiOS

      … Does it matter?
      23,372 + 10,772 = 34,144
      28,270 + 1,447 = 29,717

      34,144 > 29,717

      • 9li8

        Welp.

        • jujubee88

Like it matters? I think both are healthy.

  • AdamBoy64

    Ah, not good.
The 360 got higher in the software sales list than the Wii U did.
