The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II

Falcom has provided first story details, character information, and new screenshots of The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II, its upcoming PlayStation 3 and PS Vita RPG sequel due out in Japan later this year.

Find the prologue detailed below. (Warning: spoilers from the first game.)

Prologue

A gunshot that changed the fate of an empire.

Stemming from the shooting of blood and iron prime minister Gilias Osborne, the imperial capital of Heimdall was captured.

And then, when a giant flying battleship called “Pantagruel” appeared, the relationship of power within the empire was changed completely by a battalion of the mechanized human-like weapons called “Armored Soldiers.” And a civil war involving the entire nation began.

With an overwhelming amount of material resources and new weapons, the Aristocrat allied forces gained total control. And the highly trained soldiers and armored division stayed with the imperial army.

The civil war that began in the giant empire of Erebonia become much more violent than expected. When it would end was unknown, and the people, stricken with powerlessness, trembled at the presentiment.

Meanwhile, Rean Schwarzer of Class VII at the Thors Military Academy wakes up in a desolate mountainous area. Nearby him—a black cat able to speak human language, and a gigantic grey-colored “Knight.”

The other students of Class VII—comrades with no substitute, who together with Rean overcame many trials—were nowhere to be found.

Just as he’s about to lose consciousness, he hears the parting words from his comrades, as well as that of his own wailing and screams.

He pictures all too clearly in the back of his mind the horrifying sight of the land as it was beginning to be engulfed by war, as well as that of a blue shadow that drew near.

“Is everyone alright?”

“If we can’t get back to the academy soon—!”

Wresting himself free of the black cat’s control, Rean makes his way back down the mountain, uncertain of what lies in wait as he tries to pay no mind to the gigantic gray shadow that looms.

Such is how the tumultuous days commenced, hearkening the beginning of the end.

And here are the character details (also spoilers):

Rean Schwarzer (Age 17, Weapon: Long Sword)
CV: Kouki Uchiyama
“In that case, I’ll fight with all my might!”

He is the adopted son of Baron Schwarzer and a noble of the northern imperial region. He is the main character and a member of the Special Class VII in the Thors Military Academy. He has inherited the power of the Eight Leaf Sword Style from the East, but fears the power sleeping within himself so he tries to hide his abilities. In the previous game, he was chosen to be the pilot of the mysterious human-type weapon (Cavalry God of Ash Valimars) and fought valiantly against the dangers approaching the academy, but he lost in a fight against his senior mate who piloted the Cavalry God of Blue. Unwilling to comply, he withdrew and awoke in a distant, mountainous area.

Alisa Reinford (Age 17, Weapon: Orbment Bow)
CV: Yui Horie
“I’m the one who’s supposed to ask if you’re all right!”

She is the daughter of the Reinford Group, the greatest heavy industries maker in the empire. She belongs to the same Class VII as Rean, and as various happenings take place, their relationship grows. Despite her harsh manner of speaking, she’s softhearted and would never neglect someone in trouble. Her mother Elena is the president of the Reinford Group and they have a rough relationship since Alisa works hard to follow her own path. In the previous game, she stayed on the battlefield with her comrades after Rean escaped, but didn’t know if he was safe or not.

Eliot Craig (Age 16, Weapon: Magic Cane)
CV: Ryoko Shiraishi
“Eheh… Well, I believed it.”

He is the son of “Red Haired Greg,” a man known as the bravest general in the Imperial Army. He has an ingenious musical talent and had hoped to enter into the Music Academy, but gave up due to his father’s severe disapproval, instead entering into Thors Military Academy. At first he resisted it, but as he overcame issues with Rean and the rest from Class VII, he began to have a brighter outlook about joining the Military Academy, and even showed a little promise. Like Alisa, at the end of the last game he also mustered his bravery and chose to remain on the battlefield, despite the dim circumstances.

Laura S. Arseid (Age 17, Weapon: Two-Handed Sword)
CV: Mariya Ise
“This body is thou ‘sword’ — That vow is expected.”

She is the daughter of the Viscount Arseid, a family noted for their militant strength in the Imperial Army. As a friend of Rean and following the same path of the sword, they work together to cultivate their skills. While she has a dignified, composed, and proud personality, she can be narrow-minded when it comes to straying from a given path. However, as she becomes friends with her comrades, her heart grows to care about more than just military prowess. She also stayed on the battlefield after Rean ran, fighting valiantly.

  • 9li8

    Pls localize.

    • Elvick

      By 2028, maybe.

      • マッシュー

It’s quicker to actually learn Japanese.

        • JeremyTMH

Heck its quicker to actually even CREATE a NEW language.

  • LunarHaven

LOCALIZE!! AHHH!!!!! I want all Falcom games :(

    • Anime10121

      Up votes, and cries :(

  • Ksatmata

    took you long enough

  • Pyrofrost

I can’t wait! I will be preordering dat PSV version!

  • DAT Bird From DAT Cage

I hate it when gaming websites report on games that have a history of not being localized. Perhaps even more so if its a Falcom game.

But thanks for “updating” us on this series.

    • Pyrofrost

Or ya know, perhaps not all gaming news is meant to be tailored to your specific wants and desires. I know, I know, that’s probably hard to imagine, isn’t it.

Just because you may not be an importer, doesn’t mean everyone isn’t. You should keep that in mind.

      • tubers

I think he’s just expressing his conflicting reception.

        I could be wrong ofc.

Please don’t tease me/thanks for the tease; simultaneous.

        • Pyrofrost

Maybe he was, maybe he wasn’t.
I didn’t feel he was doing so in the context; so I expressed my thoughts on his “I’m the centre of the universe-ish” post.

          • tubers

            Fair enough.

  • MrFinalgamer

Sony’s 3rd party team should help XSEED localize these games already!

    • Pyrofrost

There is a great deal of certainty that XSeed will be dropping the series once SC is out the door, if it isn’t a lot more successful than the first chapter. Which was really a slow burner in the sales department, and did not meet expectations.

Not to mention that Tom posted a while back that 3rd wasn’t even being considered (remember, with SC Tom was always adamantly reassuring us that it is still coming, its just not a priority). There is a chasm of difference in meaning when it comes to those two statements. More or less meaning, unlike with SC, 3rd isn’t going to be a pet project (or rather, it can’t be) and the numbers from SC will absolutely matter.

I’m guessing if SC doesn’t meet expectations within about 12 weeks or so (in time for the following fiscal quarterly); they will just let the contract for Legend of Heroes die and put their resources on new projects (such as Akiba’s Trip) and projects that are actually profitable (such as Ys).

      • https://twitter.com/RyoonZ RyoonZ

I guess so but isn’t that why he said Sony’s 3rd party should help them with it? Not that I’m putting any hope for that to happen.

        • Pyrofrost

I’m not disagreeing with him actually.

I’m just saying that moving forward, if we see any more Legend of Heroes here, it will be from someone other than XSeed.
So another publisher would have to pick up LoH, for Sony to have someone to help.

      • Anime10121

I think it’d have to do a little more than “meet expectations” for them to consider doing the third game. As I’m sure after the first, their expectations arent that grand anyway. It’d have to blow the first game’s sales out of the water and sell gangbusters for them to even look at the third at this point :(

And considering how far we are behind in this series, I think its safe to say that we arent gonna see any more Legend of Heroes games past Second Chapter until they reboot the franchise again :(

Just too much text, and the focus on handhelds didnt help either :(

        • Pyrofrost

Well, they use their expectations as the number that needs to be met to justify continuing a series or continuing localization.

The first game fell way below expectations but met them over 2 years later. However, as I said before, SC was a pet project. They had intended to follow up with that regardless of how successful FC was.

3rd, won’t be a pet project for them, and the numbers will absolutely be taken into account.

Their expectations are set at enough units to pay for all costs involved and to make enough profit to justify the time, labor, resources involved, and etc.
If those expectations are met, then a follow-up is justified. With that said, meeting expectations will be enough; however, the mystery is in what their expectations are set at.

Keep in mind, even if expectations are met or greatly exceeded, that does not make a publisher obligated to continue.
(not saying you don’t know that, just putting it out there)

  • Maria Garcia

i didnt know alisa was yui horie lol

  • talesoffan

This game look fantastic! English please!!!

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Is there a best version for the first one?

    • Pyrofrost

      No, not that I’ve seen.
Which version would you be looking to get, PSV or PS3?

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Either I guess, whichever is cheaper

        • Omega_Shiro

          I suggest PS vita version

          • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

            Ok thanks ^ ^

            • Omega_Shiro

It really makes you love your vita BUT update it the sec you get it for really fast load times

              • kurosan9712

They still are longer than in PS3 version with patches, though.

            • Guest

one other note if you know kanji/hiragana/katakana or learn Japanese in genreral this will grind your Japanese really well

              • Omega_Shiro

                the comment went to guest

              • Conject

How do you figure that? The vocabulary used in the Kiseki games isn’t exactly easy, it’s also quite a large amount of text.

        • Pyrofrost

The cheapest prices I’ve seen were for the PS3 version on amazon and on nipponyasan.

Like Omega, I opted for PSV’s; however, know in advance you will be paying more for that version.

          • Omega_Shiro

its worth it I think but its backwards making it pricier on a vita lol

            • Pyrofrost

Oh I agree, when it came out it the PS3 version was actually priced higher. At places like Playasia and Yesasia, it still is.

On amazon you’re dealing with sellers though, and I guess nipponyason may have a promo or something going atm, I’m not sure there xD

              • Omega_Shiro

Yea I was a playasia buyer XD the load times were bad waited for update its so good now I really need to get my hands on that pricy $80 cd 4 disk set of the game .

                • Pyrofrost

Same here, I had a coupon so I got Zero no Kiseki Evolution and Sen no Kiseki.

Though now days I’m using amiami and nipponyasan.

                  • Omega_Shiro

yea amiami can be a god send wish they would restock Kiseki items more often also I am wating on my Zero No Kiseki Evolution in the mail then get Ao evo once its out before Sen No Kiseki II is out.

                    • Pyrofrost

I really think they just order a few more than their preorders there, and that’s it. I’ve hardly ever seen any game just stay in stock there.

                  • LordKaiser

I’ll check those out since Shop-Himeya bited the dust.

                    • Pyrofrost

They are both really good, especially AmiAmi.

The only problem with AmiAmi is that they cover just a little more than their preorders and that’s it. So they run out of stock VERY fast.
Then sometimes they replenish, sometimes they don’t.

So nipponyasan gives a bit more ‘post-release’ breathing room there.

    • Money?Muney??All my luveee!!!

PS3 version. It had less slowdown and looks much better on HD TV.

      • Omega_Shiro

it only had slight lighting difference due to screens that was so minor and the update fixed the lag a long time ago. still ps3 ver is good but I opted to see the vita’s prows.

        • JeremyTMH

Have both versions. Played mostly on PS3. PSV for when I was at work or something. >.>

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        Cool thanks

  • https://twitter.com/GaleGlory89 KiQun

And I’m still waiting for the asian version of the first one. Pretty much guarantee this one will be release in either Fall or Winter.

  • Omega_Shiro

I am almost done with the first racked up 80-90hrs actually playing now Psv version.

    • Pyrofrost

That’s the one I picked up as well, LoH on dat OLED <3

      • Omega_Shiro

oh yes well and truly good looking on it feel sad for a slim owner jk anyway I am at the dungeon after the school festival oh man the map is good and music done by team JDK falcom.

        • Pyrofrost

I’m personally waiting on Ao no Kiseki Evolution to come out in June before I hit it.

I’m very glad to hear from you that it’s good though and you’re enjoying it. This makes me very happy.

I also feel bad for the LED owners :p

          • Omega_Shiro

I am really enjoying it and yea those LED owners are missing out :p glad to hear others are playing and enjoying such a good game.

          • Omega_Shiro

just to add also I want Ao evo before Sen No Kiseki II but release dates matter I want the preorder this time of them.

            • Pyrofrost

Not to worry, Falcom has stated through Dengeki that Ao will be out in June!

However, at this point, Sen is still TBD.

so until that announcement is made, lets
              *PLEASE BE EXCITED* :p

              • Omega_Shiro

You got to love that joke everyone on gematsu uses ahaha I will “please be excited” :P lol

                • Pyrofrost

                  Haha, no problem~
Just a bit of humor from one JRPG addicted uni student to another ;)

                  http://1-media-cdn.foolz.us/ffuuka/board/a/image/1340/96/1340968438741.gif

                  • Omega_Shiro

haha, thanks yea that joke is always good :) XD
can’t wait for more LoH got lots of it once Zero evo is here to keep me good for then and cant wait for Ys ps4 announcement.

                  • Omega_Shiro

Actually what do you think of Ys ps4 will it be a remake of seven its a bit to soon for that, maybe I should wait on open forum the new one.

                    • Pyrofrost

I think the next Ys game till either be Ys 8 or a remake of Ys 5; and the next one following will be the one they didn’t do.

As for what the Falcom game on the PS4 is; that one is still untitled. Everyone is just leaping at Ys because the guy in the picture brings Adol to mind, and everyone is just ready for more Ys goodness :3

                    • Omega_Shiro

True that and I thought it would be one of the two but 5 was remade more than once in jp I think so 8 I think but yea its falcom so I “please be excited” for what it is netherless.

                    • Pyrofrost

                      Agreed~ :3

I will be looking forward to whatever it turns out to be. Hopefully Falcom will get around to telling us what that PS4 game is soon ^_^

                    • Omega_Shiro

                      yea I hope so

                    • Pyrofrost

Oh they will be around. It’s fortunate they had something like ISHIN for a launch title in Japan (which I bought, even though I don’t have a PS4 yet) xD

I’ll wait for one or two more JP titles to pop on it, then I will get it. Two Japanese games, and Final Fantasy XIV will be enough to get me going on PS4. :p

                    • Omega_Shiro

Oh good dedication to ISHIN I would let you use my PS4 if I could XD I am currently engrossed in the Vita lol but I do love the PS4 needs more JRPG love though I am thinking about getting Nocturnal Doctrine for Vita and Ps4 via a pack set but it was shifted so I have not ordered it yet.

                    • Pyrofrost

                      Haha, I really <3 RgG ^_^
You letting me play your PS4 would be a very kind offering. You'd definitely have my appreciation, that's for sure.
Personally, I'm going to be passing on Natural Doctrine simply because I'm not a fan of SRPGs/TRPGs. I do give a few titles a pass; but overall, it's not my thing.
However, Ar no Surge came in for me 2 days ago, so I look forward to playing that one soon ^_^

                    • Omega_Shiro

I don’t like SRPGs much but I think this one had an open world map and areas so it might let me roam a bit not like most SRPG and Ar no Surge is on my list the PS3 needs that :) lol

                    • Pyrofrost

Yeah, I see what you mean with that. The only ones I own personally are the Devil Survivor games, Growlanser, FE Awakening, Luminous Arc, NamcoXCapcom, and Project X Zone.

EDIT: and Arc the Lad Collection on PS1, I forgot that one. xD

                • Budgiecat

It’s not that funny when Square-Enix uses it…

  • Adol Christin

Guys/gals, just learn Japanese, there are lots of videos, apps, sites that will help if you are willing to sacrifice a bit of your time. Just imagine all the Japanese games you can play Day One. Never having to rely on publishers if they will ever localize your favorite game.

    • http://fr.twitch.tv/Nhatalya Aleksandrina

“Just learn Japanese”. That’s just too EASY to say.

      • Adol Christin

Nothing in life worth having comes easy. If you want something, you have to be able to work and sacrifice for it. I have been through it myself. Its just a matter of how badly you want it.

        • Budgiecat

okay i want them to localize it badly….what are the steps to ensure that this gets done? Should i use violence, bribery, or just talk it out? I have a three sectional staff, Nine ring sword, and a musket…

          • kurosan9712

            Use MONEY.
Don’t have money? Not anyone’s problem, it’s you who wants it localized badly, not the localizing company. Alteratively follow the advice in the main post, it’s easier.

      • kurosan9712

        It is actually easy.
And people make it sound like learning japanese is hard, but it’s actually not.
The first and prime mistake a man can make on his way to learning japanese is thinking that japanese is hard.(c) Myself

    • Anime10121

Heh, just a “bit” of time he/she says…

    • JeremyTMH

Done. Long ago. Its my 3rd language actually lol.

  • Hatsuaki

I’m loving the new costumes, tbh.

  • http://ryuz4ki57inenglish.wordpress.com/ Thomas FROEHLICHER

Please continue telling the story. I can’t stand the suspense…

  • Rái Cá

Anyone know the artist name? I have fall in love with his art since Ys vs Sora no Kiseki. Never found his name on the internet.

    • Ksatmata

    *mistake*

Their clothes looks normal, like I had seen them at Sears or Amazon. They will be easy to cosplay.
