The Last of Us

Sales for The Last of Us, launched last June for PlayStation 3, have surpassed six million units worldwide, Sony Computer Entertainment announced.

‘Left Behind,’ the game’s February-launched single-player expansion, is also PlayStation 3’s highest-rated add-on ever with a Metacritic score of 89.

Congratulations, Naughty Dog and Sony.

Congratulations, ND! I haven’t played the game, but I’ve heard good things about it.

  • bloodiOS

Consider that TB topped 6M just recently, I’d say this pretty damn good for game that was only released for one single platform.

    • Anime10121

      TB? You mean Tomb Raider?

      • bloodiOS

Yeah. (I mean what else could it be, tuberculosis? ;P)

        • Anime10121

Dunno, could have been a new spread of tuberculosis that hit 6M overnight, shit happens fast on this planet :P

          • bloodiOS

Now, unless I’m some kind of monster why would I think 6M people getting hit with TB is a good thing? Tomb Bomba is the only explanation ;P

  • Anime10121

Congrats to Naughty Dog! While I’m not one of those that think its the zomg best thing ever (like Uncharted MUCH better), it was still a pretty fun game to go through, so I’m glad to see its doing great!

    • TDtigedas

i disagree i beat all three of the uncharted games and i still think last of us was better. Can’t wait for a last of us 2.

  • Dark_N11

That’s great for a new IP.

  • DarthBrian

    woot! Congrats ND and Sony!

Now fix the game so it doesn’t crash my PS3 after every 15 minutes of gameplay. >_<

    • bloodiOS

That thing is dying, man. The same thing happened to my B/C PS3. I have absolutely no problem with the game after purchasing a Super Slim.

      • DarthBrian

This and Twisted Metal are the only two games where this happens. It can’t be the fault of my PS3.

        • bloodiOS

I’m saying that those are intense enough to cause a dying console to crash. No other game I had would crash while playing.

          • DarthBrian

If that were the case then Uncharted 3 would’ve crashed my PS3 too and it doesn’t.

            • bloodiOS

Well, I’m referencing my own experience here and all three Uncharted games never crashes on my old PS3, it only happens with TLoU. Ever since I switched to the Super Slim, I can play the entire game without ever experiencing any crash. To me, it’s pretty clear that the only reason the old system crashed is because it simply couldn’t handle it. Perhaps it might vary from system to system but they all share the same thing, crashing when running the beast that is TLoU.

              • Dennis Djoenz

It’s not the system probably, but the BluRay drive. My UC3 and Black Ops bombed my drive. It seems some games like UC3 and Black Ops have two layers. The drive has to do too much work to process information on those two layers and if your lense is dirty it can’t cope. I figured out this too late so I bought a new ps3 and within 1,5 year it happened again. That’s when I investigated the shit out of it. They say overall lifespan of the drive/lense is 2 years, but that is for people that heavily smoke in their room/near their console. I cleaned up both lenses of both ps3’s and sold the older one to a buddy of mine. His and mine are still fully operational lol.

                • bloodiOS

Okay, but can a dirty Blu-ray drive lead to YLOD? And beside, it’s all rather moot seeing that my copy of TLoU runs off the HDD, so the Blu-ray drive shouldn’t matter anyway. Also, I’m pretty sure the PS3 version of Black Ops is on a single-layer Blu-ray, seeing that it doesn’t even go over 20GB.

                  • Dennis Djoenz

                    I stand corrected then :P
About the Black Ops disc are you sure? I looked into it and If I’m not mistaken it was even mentioned on the back of the cover. Both of mine consoles were slim versions btw.

                    • bloodiOS

Well, Digital Foundry reported that the game is under 20GB, even the bundle with the First Strike on PSN is only ~19GB. Have you looked on the backside of the disc and see if the small ring above the PS3 logo ring has the word BPSS (follows by a long string of numbers) in it?

        • Gigus

Bloodios is right but its not just the games, its also due to your console. Have you done this already?

This will not only help prolong the life of your ps3 but it will keep it running cooler so when it runs heavier games like The Last of Us and Twisted Metal. Regarding your post about Uncharted 3. I’m not really sure why that doesn’t happen with that game. But if you try Infamous 2, it’ll definitely do that due to how many things are going on in-game. Just try wreaking alot of havoc and it’ll freeze your ps3.

          • DarthBrian

I have no problem running InFamous 2 either.

Also, I’m not taking apart my PS3. I will make it worse somehow and I don’t have a good area for doing that kind of work in my house.

            • Gigus

I’m not saying you haven’t tried it already but try doing a lot of random destruction in the game. Continous utter non-stop destruction. I’ve already done this and it has worked.

I already tried doing the same thing with my BC ps3 with both games and they have worked already. Uncharted 3 is a different story though. I had to consistently keep resetting a stage to get that to work…………….. On second thought, don’t do it. You might end up breaking your ps3 and have no means of repairing it due to your situation XD

But my statement still stands. If you follow that guide step by step crucially, you’ll have your ps3 working better than ever.

  • shogunknight

Very good and congrats to ND, I dont want a seuqel though. Better left as a memorable game for ps3 like shadow of the colossus was to ps2

    • Zefhar

I can sense the implications of that statement.

      • shogunknight

        ……Be still, my broken heart….

  • 武神水樹

I’m too scared to play my copy

    • z_merquise

You should better play it soon.

  • Learii

maybe left behind is DLC of the year

    • Zackasaur

      DLC of Gaming History.

  • Zackasaur

Well deserved. Hell, this still isn’t close to how it would perform in a just world.

  • z_merquise

Is it really a big deal how a game should score in Metacritic? It could be just me, but I’m bothered if publishers (or developers even) worry about Metacrtic scores.

Still, The Last of Us is really good. I haven’t beaten the game yet but I really find it really engaging.

    • shogunknight

      Apparently it is

      Quite sad really

    • Cygdor

Metacritic is just an aggregate. It collects reviews and then calculates the average score. Metacritic isn’t a review site itself, at least, not to my knowledge.

So yes, I would say Metacritic does matter if you want a ballpark average of a game’s quality. However, for specifics, you’re better off reading actual reviews rather than relying on one average.

    • 永次

      Only for West developers.

    • British_Otaku

Like shonenknight linked, some publishers pay their developers a bonus on the basis of what scores get and some publishers even hire developers on the basis of them being part of a team that developed a 85% + Metacritic rated game:

That number or grade at the end of a review could screw your favourite upcoming developer out of new opportunities or make their life harder to live.

This video in a sense isn’t just a parody but the real state that some developers (not just CliffyB) feel they need to be in:

  • kurbstar

That’s one popular movie Sony got there

  • Elvick

Deserves twice as much… deserves ALL THE SALES!

  • Rayhan PromisedGallery

the ending remind me of NieR.
