Final Fantasy XIV

Square Enix has released new screenshots of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s 2.2 patch due out later this month, dubbed “Through the Malestrom.”

The images showcase the updates to the main story and characters, including the continuing story of Hildibrand, the introduction of Gilgamesh and the mysterious Yugiri, and primal Leviathan, whom players will face in the newest primal battle.

Additionally, Square Enix announced it will host the 13th installment in its Letter from the Producer LIVE series with director and producer Naoki Yoshida on March 21 at 2:30 a.m. Pacific time. It will cover the 2.2 patch content, including a preview of the new beast tribe quests, new cases for Hildibrand, the “Glamours” system for altering equipment appearance, and the “ventures” that will let players expand on their retainer’s role. Main scenario writer Kazutoyo Maehiro will also make an appearance.

But will it fix the horrible framerate on PS4?
    It chugged so badly everywhere.

Wow, and they said they originally built the game for consoles

      • Pyrofrost

They must have flubbed with that statement then. FFXI was originally built for consoles.
FFXIV however, was originally built for PC, then separately developed for PS3, then separately developed for PS4. Each iteration is supposed to be specifically optimized for its platform; but too much can’t exactly be expected of the PS4 version at this point, as it’s still in beta. The full release is tentatively set for April 14.

It was incredibly fast and fluid for me.

This and I thought with my crappy ISP it’ll run like shit but nope, it’s very smooth.

        • Zackasaur

Yep. The PS4 beta version is already running better than the PS3 one, in addition to looking better and being more feature-rich.

It lagged sub 30fps almost everywhere. The only time I saw it anywhere near 60fps was with the entire view trapped between two flat rocks…

you sure we played the same game

no date yet on the patch?if the letter its on 21…..

    • Derpazu

Probably in the week after the live letter, like last patch.

Awesome. They’re managing to fit quite a lot into these little patches. if they can keep this rate up they’ll have the game going well for quite a long time. I let my subscription lapse in December as I knew I’d have a pile of Christmas games to get through, but as soon as the PS4 version drops I’ll get right back in there and get my hands on all of this as well as that last massive update. Cant wait. :3
