Wait, it took them this long to sell a million copies of a Dragon Quest game in Japan?

    • Franggio Hogland

A feat they managed that. People.weren’t happy to hear it.was a mmo.

  • Franggio Hogland

    Hope they’ll break it down.

  • Elvick

So, is this the worst selling DQ in recent memory then?

I wonder how many active accounts there are.

MMOs will always attract a different demographic of gamers. It was the same with FFXI and FFXIV,

      • Budgiecat

FFXIV ARR hit one million pretty quickly despite how much a fail 1.0 was…

        then again….it was actually localized…

        • Pyrofrost

Yeah, but I mean when compared to numbered installments. It’s eclipsed by the sales of X, XII, and XIII; and it will be eclipsed by XV as well. MMOs just reach to a different group of gamers.

I hope this eventually gets localized though :(

          • Elvick

FFXI, from what I’ve read, has made more revenue than all of those games.

That’s why I was wondering how many active users DQX has.

            • Pyrofrost

That would definitely be some good data to have.

Correct, FFXI is the highest profiting FF game of all time; however, this is something that took a lot of time, with a very loyal following. It kept around 300k steady subscribers, and peaked at about 500k subscribers. Also the game was released in PAL regions and NA, and it was released on PS2 (playable on BC PS3s), PC, and 360.

So if SE plans to even think of attempting to catch that with DQX; they will have to go global with it at the very least, on Wii-U and PC.

          • Budgiecat

You do realize that its the consistent subscriptions that matter in an MMO, not so much the amount of sold copies? Numbered installments don’t really mean shit when it comes to MMO success…

theres a reason they pushed so hard to salvage FF XIV after the poopfest that it initially was…

FF XI is the most profitable FF title to date…

            • Pyrofrost

Yes, I know that. However, I assumed we were discussing sales, because that’s what I was talking about in my original reply to Elvick (which you responded to) and that’s what the article is about.

Read down further, and you will see that Elvick and I have already discussed subscribers.

Yeah. I would say so and took them an extremely long time just to get to one million.

  • Budgiecat

    such excitement…

  • DarthBrian

    Took long enough.

Now make a good Dragon Quest game on a high-def console. Thanks.

I still want to play it.

SE should bring this over it would “BOOST” wii u sales both here & in Europe (which Nintendo needs BADLY) and why they won’t localize the 3DS remake of DQ VII is a total “head scratcher” A localization announcement at E3 2014 for either game seems unlikely now at this point but ya never know…
