Is there anything in this game other than being really hard and challenging? Because that’s what I always hear about this game.

I tried Demon Souls once but it got boring very quickly so I don’t really get why people like this series so much. I guess it’s just not my kind of game.

The game isn’t hard, it’s actually very fair on the players. Also, I like the game’s lore, especially the way it doesn’t straight out tell me everything but instead leave hints and descriptions here and there then let me piece together the whole picture myself. Quite rewarding stuffs, really.

It’s the satisfaction, for me. No other game has given me as much pure satisfaction as Dark Souls did. I wasn’t a fan of Demon’s Souls, I quit not because it was hard, but because its world was really dull. Dark Souls had a gorgeous, thoroughly interesting world full of great lore and stories if you put the effort into finding it and working it all out.

It was a hard game, but overcoming the challenge was so satisfying that it was absolutely worth it. Its combat provides loads of tactical options, some of the most memorable boss battles I’ve ever encountered, and some of the most memorable locations.

The Souls games really aren’t for everyone, I’d imagine A LOT of people get put off in the first hour by the way the game doesn’t hold the players’ hands, but for the people that persevere, it’s absolutely fantastic.

As @Bloodios:disqus said, the lore. DeS is very good at making you feel depressingly disheartened. Especially Valley of Defilement and Shrine of Storms. It doesn’t force the story down your throat yet the world tells the story itself, leaving a lot to the imagination. That makes for a community that interprets the lore for themselves and makes the game much more interesting.

It’s not for everyone but they’re damn good games. Also, it’s not fun for ADD shoot shoot pew pew wanna do something right now-type of people. You need some patience and timing which makes your victory feel more rewarding. Playing with others online is fun too. Monster Hunter is comparable in feeling.

But what about the downgraded lighting?!

The lighting only looks better to me. Seems a bit different from DaS1 but better imo.

It’s astounding….I am a King’s Field/Shadow Tower/Demons Souls/Dark Souls veteran….but Dark Souls 2 is making me its BIATCH (about 15 hours into the game). For those people who have played Demons Sould/Dark Souls, don’t expect to breeze through it without taking serious casualties and a heavy dose of rage.

      You aint lying…

        You know…

Demon’s Souls is still my favorite, but DS2 is really solid and worthy of the Souls name.
