Atlus and Index split, new logos and websites launched

Sega's planned division of the two becomes official.

It’s April 1 in Japan, meaning Atlus and Index have officially split. Atlus is now its own games company and Index is its own business and solutions company.

And with that change comes new logos for each corporation. Atlus’ new logo has removed the cuts from its former logo, opting for a much more pronounced look.

And the Index logo has changed entirely, likely because its previous logo was so similar to Atlus’ in design. Find the new logo on the left, and the old on the right.

New websites for each company have also launched. Visit Atlus’ website here, and Index’s website here.

    >Japanese time
    >April 1, 2014

I won’t be taking any news seriously today ._.

    • Sal Romano

Don’t worry, this is true. It was announced to take effect on April 1 a while back. Same goes for Namco Bandai changing its name outside Japan to Bandai Namco. I believe April 1 is the start of the new fiscal year.

      • Gustavo Rosario

Speaking of April Fools, Sal where are the april fools round ups. I don’t recall seeing them last year! And I very much liked them.

      • TetsuyaHikari

Thanks for clarifying. I was kind of skeptical about accepting this as factual too, lol.

        • Auragar

Wait you really didn’t know? I can understand him (her) not knowing because he (she) doesn’t seem to be a regular, but you are Tetsu. o.o

          • TetsuyaHikari

Just because I’m a regular doesn’t mean that this didn’t stand out to me:

            >It’s April 1 in Japan

It was kind of awkward for him to start the article out with those words instead of just going straight into talking about it, hence the skepticism.

            • Auragar

Ah. Well *shrug* The news has been around for the last month or so.

              • TetsuyaHikari

Fair enough. I didn’t really follow it then though. I kind of lost interest after the merge.

                • Auragar

            • ekibyougami

Exactly. It even made me forget the news regarding this out of being too cautious since it’s that time of the year.

@Auragar Just because I’m not commenting “like a regular” doesn’t mean I’m not updated.

        • The Ash

Sony combined SCEJ and SCE Asia last year this time.
Business related things happen a lot on April 1, since its the first day of new financial year.

Game announcements are rare though :P

          • Elvick

If I were a developer, I would make game announcements on April 1st.

Give gamers something to actually look forward to, rather than a series of disappointments and annoyances.

          • karldeck

            One exception is Blood Dragon.

    • Auragar

Worry about that tomorrow more than today because in the US it is still the 31st.

      • ekibyougami

        >Different Timezones
        >already April 1 in Japan
        >where else would this news be first reported from

Considering a lot of gaming-related updates are announced usually at this time of the day in Japan — like several hours earlier (heck famitsu and other sites were already posting their pranks earlier), it wouldn’t hurt to be cautious.

        • TetsuyaHikari

          Better safe than sorry :3

  • TheExile285

I liked Atlus’ old logo but oh well.

    • rurifan

Agreed, but if this is what it takes to extricate Atlus from that Index mess, I’ll take it.

  • Guest

    That weird kerning….

  • Zackasaur

The new Atlus logo is a definite downgrade. For one thing, it is way too vertically stretched. It just looks bad. The old one was edgier, as well.

As for Index… Well, I no longer have to give a damn about them. This new logo seems to suit them better, however. Good change.

  • Pyrofrost

Ugh, this new logo looks like shit. In other words, I don’t like it.

  • Auragar

New Atlus logo is bad… new Index logo is cool (but seriously who here gives a rats ass about them anymore). The old logo had cuts in it and the new one doesn’t. Symbolism? When they were under Index they felt split and now that they are separate (too bad Sega owns them now) they feel tighter and more together?

  • shogunknight

……..Meh, all of you will get used to it. #dealwithit

    • Auragar

Not really. I will just accept it though.

      • shogunknight

        • Auragar

          There you go. xD

    • Elvick

      Nope. #dealwithit

      Works with anything.

  • 罪罰

Extend the head of the T and it wouldnt bother anyone lol

    • Auragar

And widen the U and S.

  • HighBrowDrifter
  • bloodiOS

Yes, I’m totally digging that ugly-ass new logo.

    • TetsuyaHikari

I think Index got the better deal here, lol. That new Atlus one is ass compared to what it used to be. Then again… I guess I’m just used to seeing it for so long, this new one will take some getting used to.

      • Elvick

I’ll never get used to that goofy ass “T”.

  • ayb_91

Now I know what do they mean by ” old but gold.” Seriously? :/

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

One logo i will always miss was the old Square logo from before the merger, sigh

  • Ace

Doesn’t look all that different to me.

  • new_tradition

I’m partial to Index’s new logo. I liked the older Atlus logo, buuuuut I probably won’t notice it much during the start up screens in future games.

  • orzorzorz

“Atlus’ new logo has removed the cuts from its former logo” whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • ddsfan2

I don’t like either new logo as well, although at least in the case of Index, it looks different from either of Atlus’s logos, which helps emphasize that they aren’t the same company.

The new Atlus logo just looks like a regular font, and fairly generic. I’m partial to the “A” in the logo, though.

  • Kobracon

I….love what the new logo represents

  • Sevyne

I like the old Atlus logo more, but it really doesn’t matter as long as we continue getting awesome games.

  • Elvick

    New logo is hideous. (Atlus)

Don’t care about index, but I like their new one.
