Alien: Isolation

Sega has released a new developer diary for Alien: Isolation, discussing the making of the game’s Alien, who will use its senses and instincts to hunt and kill players. Sega describes him as “terrifying, unstoppable, and totally unique, this is an enemy you need to avoid at all costs.”

Watch the developer diary below. The game is due out this all for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

this game will truly depend on how intelligent the Alien A.I. is and honestly, there haven’t been that many games in the past gen that have truly evolved the level of A.I. programming in the industry, so they definitely have their work cut out for them, not to mention the uphill climb at winning back gamer’s interest and respect due to Sega’s other two Aliens published games which were stinkers (guilt by association).

the last of us promised that, but didn’t deliver. So we’ll see if this one can….
Reacting to the players choices and not following a scripted path sounds promising….

Why am I the only one here?

      …..guys? ………guys?

      Anyone out there? uh…..anyone?

      whats that hissing sound?……uh?

      … help?

Honestly, seeing that the Xenomorph being the only enemy in the game, it better has some seriously impressive AI, given that the only thing it should be looking for is Ellen Ripley.

Isnt that kinda like what I said?

And what took you so long? This Xenomorphs been chasing me all around the ship!

I more or less repeated what I said back when it was revealed. I already have an idea what the game is going to be like and had already stated what I would expect from it. I don’t see the need to state it again and again. If I’m gonna comment on it, I’ll wait till it’s released.

Since you always seem so informed about graphics and programming, it’d have been better to read your insight as to just how they would tackle making an intelligent A.I. without set patterns….

What I know is just a small chunk regarding graphics, and that really doesn’t have anything to do with A.I. It’s up to the guy who codes it to lay things out in a way that works. What I’d expect is that since the game only has the xenomorph and Ellen stuck within tiny corridors, when compare to larger games, it already got the advantage of having a lot less factors to take into consideration when designing a good A.I.

I wish them luck. The first two films are too good to let their legacies stagnate without fresh spins. There CAN be good Alien games (emphasis without the predator), and someone’s going to do it… someday…

The first two Alien movies are one of my favorites. I really want this to be good :)
