XSEED Games is bringing AKIBA’S TRIP 2 to PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in North America this summer as AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed, the publisher announced.
The game, first launched in Japan last November, takes players to Tokyo’s Akihabara district, where they’ll battle vampire-like foes in “over-the-top, highly stylized” action. It tasks players with repelling creatures known as “Synthisters,” who pray on Akihabara’s otaku patrons like vampires, but feast on their will to live and energy to socialize rather than their blood. Direct exposure to sunlight destroys Snythisters, and it’s up to players to strip enemies down and make sure they’re fully exposed to the sun’s rays.
To do this, players will roam the otaku haven of Akihabara and identify human Snythisters with the help of a handy smartphone app. To battle them, players can use everyday objects, including baseball bats, comic books, and even motherboards. Players can take an enemy’s clothing for their own use, as well.
Story-wise, you’ll act as a young man named Nanashi, who was lured into a trap and transformed into a Synthister. Fortunately, he was saved by a Synthister hunter named Shizuku, and is now sworn to save Akihabara from the Synthister threat. Together with the rest of his comrades in an organization known as the “Akiba Freedom Fighters,” the pair will uncover the truth behind the Synthister plague.
AKIBA’S TRIP: Undead & Undressed will be available in both physical and digital formats with Japanese audio. XSEED are currently looking into dual audio (English voice-overs), and doesn’t plan to remove anything from the Japanese version.
