Hyped as fuck for this. Day one for 360, and I’ll double-dip on a PS4 copy down the road. Can’t wait to see what’s up with that Doom beta too.

It’s nice to see that some developers and publishers still have faith enough to release FPS titles that aren’t TitanBattleCall of HaloDutyField.

cant see how this will be any different than your typical FPS

Single-player only with a 15-20 hour campaign versus the 4-6 hour tacked-on nonsense of the annual franchises. Non-regenerating health with med-kits and the ability to overcharge health. Fast-paced gunplay over being a glorified rail-shooter.

have you seen previews? This IS a glorified rail shooter masquerading as an underdog. Most of the shit is scripted and linear cutscene tunneling.

Yes, I’ve seen and read previews, plus impressions from people who’s opinions matter to me who have played it at trade shows.

Please, point me to the articles that state what you are claiming.

            Because CVG says

“The New Order a pleasingly old-school and often thrillingly challenging FPS. A Call of Duty shooting gallery this ain’t.”

            Venturebeat says

“But this new Wolfenstein isn’t leading you by the nose the entire time. Every level in the demo branched out multiple times into wider gunfight arenas with several methods of approach. These paths are usually split between a stealthy and guns-blazing method of confrontation. ”

TotalBiscuit’s impressions differ. If you don’t trust that sort of testimony that’s fine, but I’ve been burned way too many times by Bethesda and I’m getting sick of the fact that “looks like CoD, but doesn’t play like CoD, we promise! Therefore it’s different!” is starting to become some sort of marketing approach for first-person shooters these days.

              • Six

Well now we’ve reached an impasse, because I think TotalBiscuit is an arrogant git who’s opinions I would give negative fucks about if possible.

So we’ll just have to agree to disagree.

Yes, we’ll have to, but I feel the need to say a few things. Regardless of how you feel about TB’s personality, I find it hard to deny a descriptive account of how the game actually plays by spoon-feeding players through cutscene after cutscene. Calling a game “old-school” or praising its equal emphasis on stealthy or aggressive gameplay isn’t going to cut it for me considering that plenty of better games have done it years before. Shadow Warrior, Rise of the Triad, Retro Blazer, Wrack — there are plenty of good non-CoD-like first-person shooters, you just have to know where to look. A $60 AAA with a beta tacked-on that will probably be review-embargoed is enough to make me weary of anything these days.

                  • Six

Yeah… I’m still excited for Wolfenstein. I’ve seen enough demos and I’ve read enough previews to be sure of that.

Hard Reset, Shadow Warrior, Painkiller and Serious Sam 3 are all games I’ve played and enjoyed greatly, and there is Serious Sam 4 and Flying Wild Hog’s next game (if it is another FPS) to look forward to for more of that run ‘n’ gun goodness (Wrack looks good, but I don’t buy Early Access games).

But, I also thought Rage was a good game. If The New Order ends up as basically Rage 2 then I’ll still be satisfied. Or if it ends up like Metro: Last Light, another story-driven FPS that I thought was fantastic.

I watched the gameplay and the trailers for this. It looked so good. And from where else can you dual-wield heavy machineguns and gunning down mecha-Nazis? It’s so silly and fun.

Wolfenstein 3D was one of my childhood favorite (until Doom came along) while Return to Castle Wolfenstein is pretty good too.

  • bloodiOS

I will be supporting this. There really isn’t enough single-player-only FPS out there since the last generation.

  • Dick Mountainjoy

I saw on another site there will be Skill Trees in this one, this pleases me.

If this will only be half as good as RTCW i am game. I doubt it though especially after the previous disasters.
