Ubi wants to focus resources where they have broadest possible benefit.

Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs, originally planned as a next-gen launch title, will launch sometime between April and June 2014, Ubisoft confirmed in its third quarter earnings report.

“Fiscal 2014-15 will see an exceptional games line-up, with the release of five major titles including Just Dance, The Crew and Watch Dogs, which is scheduled for release in the first fiscal quarter,” Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said.

In a conference call following the report’s release, Ubisoft confirmed the game is still planned for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC, but the Wii U version will arrive later.

“We made the difficult decision to further delay the release of Watch Dogs on Wii U to focus the team’s resources where they could have the broadest possible benefit for both our customers and Ubisoft,” Guillemot said.

Thanks, Game Informer.

We’re not going to hear about the Wii U version again until it’s cancelled, are we?

    • GhostNomad

My guess is that they’ll suspend the work on the Wii U version until after they get some numbers off the release on other consoles. If they don’t like said numbers, Wii U version is probably getting tossed.

    • Sevyne

Probably. It’ll be one of those situations where they’ll hope everyone just forgets about it, and will only say it’s cancelled after months of people badgering them over it.

    • Stealth

      It wont be cancelled

  • crimsonidol

Anyone still remember the delay for the Wii U-version of Rayman Legends due to the fact that they wanted to release it on every platform at the same time. I guess all platforms are equal, but some are more equal than others.

Ubisoft have to make business decisions in the end of the day, I’m afraid. They’ve put more money into the Wii U than any other third parties have, and they’ve had mixed results at best. Other companies are watching this.

      • crimsonidol

Yeah, that’s for sure. Even if this decision quite sucks for Wii U-users, it’s understandable from a business point of view, as Ubisoft ain’t the welfare.

      • Aiddon

“effort” being “let’s just throw it out there and hope it’ll stick because we’ve forgotten how to actually grow an audience.” All in all, not much different from most Western 3rd parties with Nintendo

  • Wolf Star

soo is Watch Dogs going to still have “Spring 2014” release?? Except for Wii U ver.

  • Elvick

Doesn’t bode well for the Wii U version.

But that’s a good release time for me and my PS4. :D

  • McPoo

Someone on Gamefaqs thinks it’s possible that the Wii U version did get cancelled back along, and to avoid losing another third party Nintendo have offered to fund the rest of the development, which is the reason for the delay.

    Crazy talk or a possibility?

    • Eder García

that explains the “focus resources where they have broadest possible benefit”

  • Stealth

Wii U version is the one I want to get, so I can wait. It will likely be good.

    • Budgiecat

      why why

      • British_Otaku

To expand the library of a system which is here to stay for another few years and only has a LEGO game for a sandbox experience aside from Batman ports?

The interface could be really good as well with the GamePad, I know I would get it for the platform just for off TV play. >_>

      • Yorai Dragon

Could be possible he doesn’t have XBO or PS4, and only Wii U atm.

  • shogunknight

Question now is, who is going to wait out the wiiU version, and what would make the WiiU version stand out from the PS4/X1 version or even the PC version

  • artemisthemp

So they basically trying to say May

  • SageShinigami

That April 18th rumor is sounding more and more accurate.
