A lengthy look at Respawn's upcoming mecha shooter.


inFAMOUS took the morning. And now Titanfall takes the afternoon. Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment lifted the embargo on new previews for the mecha shooter just ahead of the game’s closed beta launch on Friday.

    weapons look like they have no weight, no recoil, and no inertia other than the visual appearance of inertia when running but you can still instantly aim. Yep, just another crappy CoD game it looks like.

    It’s nice how all of the videos are placed into one topic here on Gematsu. Go over to IGN and what do you see? The entire front page covered in nothing but separate Titanfall topics to pad out those clicks. It’s an absolute mess and drowns out any other gaming related articles.

      Makes sense. Kotaku has been doing the same with Flappy Bird articles, basically just reiterating what we already know about it being discontinued. It’s nice to actually see different content and whatnot on Gematsu.

      Even if it’s a slow week, they don’t resort to pumping out shit just to get clicks.

        Exactly. I go to some of those other sites, see a billion of the same article covering the front page, roll my eyes, and leave page. Here, I know I won’t have to deal with that so it’s like my main “go to” site for gaming.

          I don’t actually visit it regularly. I have a friend that posts articles on Facebook and sometimes I’ll check them, but other than that… Not particularly a fan of their work.

    I’ve watched a few of those videos now and I may be a bit out of touch with multiplayer gaming these days but those maps seem really really small to me. Am I just used to playing Battlefield or something?

    Also, what’s up with the mini-map showing you where everybody is on the map? Part of the fun of multiplayer for me is not knowing where anybody but my teammates are and running around a corner and encountering enemies I had no idea were there.

    EDIT: In general it just looks like way too much HUD to me. *shrug*

      Twitch Shooters don’t really work well with huge maps, so they are more confined in comparison with battlefield

        Yeah, but I mean it looks even more confined that most of the twitch shooters I have played. I’m old school so I’m thinking of games like Quake III Arena, which had maps that, IIRC, are a lot bigger than the Angel Station map in Titanfall and there’s giant mechs wandering around those narrow corridors with them.

        In the Last TItan Standing gameplay, I see a lot of people trying to squeeze two Titans in one narrow corridor. Looks claustrophobic as hell.

          I dunno. Maybe the Titans are giving the impression that the scenario is smaller than usual. Also, there is the Jetpack to take in consideration (So the scenarios could be bigger vertically).

          For me, it seemed like regular “CoD sized” maps. But I’ll guess I need to play it to find out

        On almost every American tv channel you see an ad that has titanfall in an xb1 commercial.

    i was watching live gameplays of it and it looks like the average players (majority of them) were getting 3-6 human (RL) player kills and 10-20 bots kill a match that last about 10 mins.

    it’s kind of hard to feel any competition when it’s hard enough to just find and kill a human player when they also have invisible camo on a large scale BF map.

    Stupid exclusive Xbone game and stupid EA “supposed to be multiplatform” company releasing it on a single console :(

    Oh wells, my one consolation is the fact that its multiplayer only, so I’d probably not be TOO into it anyway (needs story/characters to get me involved in the world/lore) :P
