PS Vita version not headed overseas.

Shin Gundam Musou

Namco Bandai is bringing Shin Gundam Musou to PlayStation 3 in North America via the PlayStation Store and Europe via retail and digital this summer as Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn, the company announced.

The game originally debuted on PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in Japan last December. The PS Vita version was not announced for localization.

Gundam Reborn is set in an era known as the “Universal Century,” in which giant mecha called Mobile Suits are used to wage war across land, sea, air, and space.

The game features Mobile Suits and pilots across over 30 years of the Gundam franchise, letting players battle across the series’ “largest roster” of mecha yet.

Players will “relive battles and animation sequences” with the “largest number of missions ever” spanning the entire franchise, including Mobile Suit Gundam SEED in Official Mode. Players can also select Mobile Suit pilots to operate any unlocked Mobile Suit in the game for crossover missions in Ultimate Mode.

The game will have you battling through hoards of enemies across multiple scenarios, completing missions and upgrading your Mobile Suit and weapon systems along the way. Weapon upgrades are reflected graphically, as well. You’ll also have the option of playing split-screen or online co-op with a friend.

And for the first time ever in the series, the massive Mobile Armor units will also be playable. Mobile Armor units “tower over the opposition and deliver absolute destruction to the enemy” with unique weapons and giant stature.

I knew they were going to localize this. Now where’s gundam Age.

    • Budgiecat

In the trash where it belongs?

      • PrinceHeir

LOL is it really that bad?

the sudden light hearted theme switch reminded me of Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal which i still have yet to watch to this day.

Though despite the newly announced Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V looking to have a similar art with Zexal. I’m willing to give it a chance and hopefully it will be just as dark as Duel Monsters or 5D’s!

        • Raiyu

Gen 1 of AGE was mediocre
Gen 2 of AGE is pretty good
Gen 3 of AGE is downright awful

          don’t bother.

          • PrinceHeir

            Oh :(

well Gundam Build Fighters looks promising as hell ^^

  • 罪罰

    Holy shit yes :0

  • Nightcore34

Hmm, giant mechs, looks interesting. Count me in.

  • Zukato

    Awesome! Hype, hype!

  • Red

2014 is too live. To many games. Already pre-ordered infamous second son and dark souls 2. Picked up TOS today. Looking forward to this, jojo all star battle, plus more.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Namco Bandai sure gives Sony a lotta love. Just sayin’

    • JonathanisPrimus

So much love that they don’t acknowledge the existence of their handhelds.

  • 6souls

I’m so hype that this is coming to NA and so down that it’s digital only.

  • orzorzorz

hope TK brings this to the Vita down the line as well

  • Wolf Star

Bring the vita ver too!! :O

  • http://gamesero.wordpress.com/ Arla

Yes! I’m finally replacing the PS3 I sold a year ago this week. The timing of this announcment is perfect.

  • OverlordZetta

Again? Seriously? Bamco needs to stop blocking the Vita versions from coming over. You know damn well TK would do it if they had control.

    • Budgiecat

“The PSP was dead in the West, therefore the Vita is dead in the West” mentality…

  • Budgiecat

    ugh…you fawkin ashholes…..

Bring this over sure but don’t even THINK about localizing Full Boost or Missing Link? No 0081 Chronicle, no Breaker, no UC….

    • Reki Honoo

I think the reason they can localize this game, is because we got all the other dynasty warrior gundam games, where as we didn’t get the other ones for ps3

      • Budgiecat

        that makes no sense

    • OverlordZetta

This is probably coming more because of Dynasty Warriors than Gundam.

    • Luna Kazemaru

ofc that would be cool and smart but they will not bring them over

    • Raiyu

You’d think that since it’s a fighting game they’d bring over Full Boost.

  • PrinceHeir

    FUCK YES!!!

Definitely gonna pre order the LE or CE if it’s available :)

I’m surprise Koei is bringing this? i thought this was a Bandai Namco game?

    also Vita version WHERE?!

please bring Full Boost(i don’t mind waiting for Maxi Boost though) and Missing Link as well!!! ^^

also for Koei, bring Orochi Warriors 3 Ultimate, Samurai Warrios 4 please!!!!

Bring in Kamen Rider Battlerider Wars 2 as well!!

Bandai Namco and Koei take my fucking money!!!

  • futuristic_imagination

I hope (I doubt it) they include the iconic Gundam theme songs.

I want Rhythm Emotion playing in the background when I’m playing Wing Zero Custom!

Edit: Never mind, they have custom soundtrack option… Now I just got to prepare for the ultimate Gundam soundtrack ever!

  • Darrell Seven

Please vita version too? Even if it’s download only.

  • PrinceHeir

Looks like Namco is to blame for the lack of physical release in the US and not how JPN only voices gets digital only(plenty of games are only JPN voice and are retail as well)

    https://twitter.com/tecmokoeieurope/status/438361905821122560

Also for the reason why there’s no Vita version

    https://twitter.com/tecmokoeieurope/status/438365614869340162

Come on Namco just let Koei Tecmo do the work!!!!

Seriously stop with this BS! Why you gotta leave the Vita support outside of Japan??

    • MrFinalgamer

i bet if we ever got Tales of Hearts and Innocence, we would get the DS versions, instead of the remakes, because fuck the vita!

      • Budgiecat

        wow that would be crazy.

Part of the problem I think with these Japanese companies is they distance themselves from the Western gaming and media public plus the language barrier, so they never can see the opinions of fans or what they want.

The ONLY reason we got Saint Seiya Brave Soldiers in the U.S. was because a few SS fans were able to catch a Namco rep at a Comic Con who was willing to listen for a few seconds on their plea since the game was already going to be localized for EU and Mexico…other than that, Namco would have had no clue because they, like S-E, Sega, and now recently Capcom, couldn’t care less what the public actually wants and like to revel in their ignorance of them…

    • Budgiecat

Even Tomino knew it was a mistake for Bandai to buy out Sunrise back in 1993.
Because of that, + 20 years later, due to monopolizing greed we can’t have nice things…

  • Pyrofrost

Congrats English speakers; you will be getting the best entry in the series!

    • Budgiecat

Actually I heard it’s the worst one in the series:

“Shin Gundam Musou is the most disappointing installment in the series thus far

First, apologies if there’s an official Shin Gundam Musou thread. I searched but couldn’t find any other than a general Dynasty Warriors one which seemed to be focused on DW8.

I started playing Shin Gundam Musou last weekend and was shocked at what a huge downgrade it is from Gundam Musou 3/Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3. From the very beginning, after the game installed on my PS3, the first thing I noticed was the complete lack of an intro movie. Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 also lacked one (another rushed cash-in which seemed like it had minimal effort put into it). I left the game on for a few minutes hoping that there would be some sort of cool, epic intro movie like all the previous Gundam Musou games had, but nothing.

The second thing I noticed, after I started playing Official Mode is that a lot of the movies are actually recycled from previous entries! I understand that making new movies to show of the same events from the various series might be a bit excessive so I was willing to forgive this until I realized that the animation stills were actually taken from the various movies, previous games, etc. It’s especially noticeable in the Zeta Gundam story mode, where some of the story’s animation stills are taken from the TV series and others are taken from the New Translation films, so there’s this shocking transition between low-quality ’80s TV anime to higher-quality film animation constantly occurring.

I was a bit annoyed by all this, but was willing to excuse it since, again, maybe it wasn’t worth doing new CG or animated stills when re-telling stories for the umpteenth time, and I assume that they had to do all new CG cutscenes for Seed and Seed Destiny (not sure because I haven’t started those story modes yet). But then…

I started ultimate mode. This, for me, has always been the main attraction in the Gundam Musou games – all the characters crossing over from the various series, interacting with each other (Gundam Musou 3 did this in a particular epic way, dropping you in the middle of the action in a series of action stages and having all the various characters interacting with each other – I still remember Setsuna asking Amuro if he’s a member of Celestial Being and where he’d gotten his Gundam, which was pretty frickin’ awesome).

Ultimate mode in Shin Gundam Musou does not appear to have any voiced scenes or, for that matter, any animated CG cut scenes! It’s all just character stills with no animation, and text overlays. The friendship mode from Gundam Musou 2 and 3 has been apparently removed completely, too.

The game just feels like a very cheap cash-in to squeeze some more money out of consumers near the end of the PS3 generation. From what I’ve been told , they didn’t even bother to design a new end boss, it’s still just Knight Gundam and the two Musha Gundams from the previous games. They brought back space battles, but they still feel floaty just like they did in GM1 and 2, which is why they were removed in GM3. They removed the beautiful cel-shading effect which made GM3 the nicest-looking entry in the series. The game no longer even runs as smoothly as previous entries, as I’ve noticed frame-rate drops and slowdown when there’s a lot of enemies and effects onscreen (which now happens more often because they pulled the camera back, I’m assuming because you get to pilot mobile armors in this game).

I’m just terribly disappointed in this game, especially considering that Gundam Musou 3 was my favorite Musou game this past generation.

Oh, yes, before I forget, they actually removed all licensed music from all the series other than the ones featured in official mode! So that means there’s no more music from G Gundam (like “Trust You Forever”), Gundam X, etc. To compensate, they’ve added a feature letting you replace the music with MP3s from your library, so if you’re a diehard enough fan to have the official music CDs, you can rip those and put them in the game, otherwise you just play with the generic tracks the game comes with.

So this post doesn’t come off as 100% whining, I will say that I liked what they’ve done with the ranged weapons (the triangle button), which you can now charge by holding the button down. Ranged weapons were a joke in previous Gundam Musou games during combat, but now you’ll find yourself using them much more often instead of just relying on beam sabers and the like”

      • http://twitter.com/GNPixie Lynx

You realize you didn’t need to post the entire post, right?

And it is the best. 3 was tied with 2 for the worst for completely different reasons (2 being the horrible relationship system and it’s treatment) 3 had reused the same…3/4, maybe 5 maps with no variation and the original story simply being good guys vs bad guys instead of 2’s individualized routes or 1’s crossover teams.

The MS selection, despite being for the most part being SEED, is by far the best its ever been. Frame Rate, I’ve had no issue with whatsoever, the license tracks is understandable if they’re implementing custom soundtracks and honestly, the new cutscenes, even if they’re lifted (choreography wise) from the shows, are gorgeous.

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oc6Lwvo7bwk

        • Budgiecat

Wait….2 was considered bad out of the series? .people actually think the first one was good?? That shit was hella boring!!

Haha and you just added another strike agains this game is the MS selecion is mostly SEED

License track is not understandable its a lame excuse. And the cutscenes are laziness plain and simple.

These are shit games given to us in the West because Namco thinks we eat shit. Where are the good Gundam games for the West?? Where is Extreme VS, UC, 0081, Missing Link, heck even Breaker offered some new variety….

And then they dont even bother with a physical release or JPN voices? feh…

          • Pyrofrost

imo, 2 (overlooking the relationship system) and Shin are the very best entries in the series.

Besides, the additions of SEED in Shin isn’t arbitrary. Being as much of an otaku and Gundam fan as you are, I would expect you of all people to know how big SEED is in Japan. (As the Japanese are the primary market for this game).

            • Budgiecat

Yes I know Japanese Gundam fans have shit taste..

              • Reki Honoo

I’m not posting this to cause any more arguments, but I need to get this off of my chest. So what if this game in the franchise is shit to you? That is your opinion. Like me, there will be countless fans who will love this game. And honestly, you should be thanking namco bandai for even bringing this over to the west. You complain about this game, yet you don’t even think to yourself, oh they could have used the time for other things, yet they took time out of their schedule for other games, and gave us a gundam game that countless people have wanted ever since it was announced. And so what if it’s digital as well? People will still buy it, and I will buy it on day one. Your opinions are your opinions, so please do stop complaining, before people decide to use the imaginary internet spray bottle on you. Good day.

            • http://shinsua.tumblr.com/ Shinsua

Hi, Pyro. You must be new here. Whenever the cat starts acting up, just spray him with water.

      • Pyrofrost

I’ve played the shit out of every single entry; and a differing opinion on a game isn’t going to change my opinion a game.

        • Budgiecat

I don’t really care. Facts are facts. Opinions are opinions.

          • Pyrofrost

Exactly, and your previous post is 100% opinion.

If you want to hate this game so much; because Full Boost isn’t being localized or because the west isn’t getting the Vita version, that’s all good and fine.

But don’t start labeling opinions as facts. Just move on like everyone else who happens not to get the game they want localized, or import the damn thing.

            • Budgiecat

Telling someone to import is redundant ad a moot point; its not going to solve the issue Namco has with their fucked up mentality of picking and choosing what to localize

And a loyal fanboy will always defend their fav series to the end no matter how obvious the current let down is

              • Pyrofrost

                >>And a loyal fanboy will always defend their fav series to the end no matter how obvious the current let down is.

Not really. I have never defended DWG3. From the beginning, I felt it was the shittiest entry in the series.

For a few unrelated games, that I could acknowledge as being garbage compared to the rest of their entries:

DW6, SO4, Ar Tonelico Qoga, Tales of Graces (outside the battle system), Grandia 3, Xenosaga 2 (in gameplay), Wild ARMs 3, Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 8, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter.

All these come to mind, immediately.

I love all those franchises and can point out their garbage, so your point doesn’t work.

                • Budgiecat

Kay, I’m gonna pretend to ignore that you just dissed FF VII & VIII, and I haven’t played Grandia 3 but despite the story I heard the battle system was the best, but let’s try this again:

improvement: putting back in Official Mode

drawback: Lazy implement of cutscenes in it

drawback: no animation in Ultimate mode (more lazy implemenation), no voices and not even bothering to make an intro (sign of rushed budgeted job and laziness). Reminds me of A.C.E. R….

improvement: ranged weapons seems more powerful

                  drawback: No new end boss

drawback: Digital only release in the U.S. and it’s an 11gb file too

drawback: took away the cel shade look. This may seem subjective, but the fact that DW Gundam character models were always low poly nigh PS2 cross gen looking was only more apparent when they didn’t have the cel shade. The cel shad at least gave them a unique appeal.

drawback: Lack of licensed music. Seems like a current trend for Namco to either not implement these anymore, or charge some ridiculous overpriced “Anison” edition to their games. Seems like they went with the former. Probably because Koei is making these games. They did the same thing with A.C.E. R which was co developed by FS.

                  • Pyrofrost

                    Like I said, opinions.

If you want to pull from various peoples post to nitpick; while doing so, at least lie and say you’ve played the game yourself and came up with those opinions on your own.

  • Elvick

    First One Piece, now this.

These games are (for me) better played on handhelds.

God I hate Namco Bandai. Their Japanese branch is awesome, but their western branches suck ass.

    • Renaldi Saputra

      yeah, fuk Bamco western

  • tokyobassist

Good thing I’ve got Full Boost on the way. Good Gundam games coming to the West is a joke now.

  • Renaldi Saputra

Bamco now rejected Vita games for being localized..
they now hate Vita.. any Vita exclusive games aren’t going to be localized whatever the series

    oh gawd, this is madness

  • Elvick

One thing I really hate about Bamco is that they don’t even bother to talk about their shit. Was checking their social media for this announcement… and nothing. While TK Europe already talked about it since they are handling that region.

    Ugg…

    • Renaldi Saputra

and Bamco now hates Vita, there will be no Vita games from Bandai Namco to the west if they keep being like this

      • Budgiecat

        No God Eater 2
        No Tales of Hearts R
        No Tales of Innocence R
        No Gundam Breaker
        No Shin Gundam Musou

Gonna excuse J-Stars because of the usual multiple U.S. license issue nightmare BS

Oh! But we got Battle of Z…….shit game…

And I won’t be surprised if the West doesn’t get Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

        • Renaldi Saputra

I’m afraid there will be also no Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth

uhh, I have to improve more of my Japanese, especially on kanji

  • Dick Mountainjoy

    THE PURGE BEGINS AGAIN

    • Pyrofrost

The greatest Gundam character of all time speaks!

      • http://shinsua.tumblr.com/ Shinsua

Feh. Old Char was… kind of an ass.

  • Zechs

Imported the Vita version last week so I’m not upset. :P

  • TheBlackRabbit

Wrong game sir this isn’t extreme versus……
