Road America track released free in celebration.

Forza Motorsport 5

Sales for Xbox One launch racer Forza Motorsport 5 have exceeded one million units worldwide, Microsoft announced.

In an Xbox Wire post, the company said “more than one-third of [Xbox One] console owners” have purchased the game since its November 22 release. As of the end of 2013, Xbox One sold three million units.

Combined, players have driven over 653 million road miles, participated in over 94 million races, put in eight million hours of total gameplay, and Drivatars have populated races and challenges more than one billion times.

To celebrate the numbers, Microsoft has released the ‘Road America’ additional track add-on free of charge. It will will be automatically added into the Career events for the racing career, and includes four alternate ribbons.

A Road America booster pack is also being released today. It’s part of the Forza Motorsport 5 season pass, and includes the 2006 #2 Audi Sport North America R8, 1995 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, 1968 Ferrari 365 GTB/4, 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, and the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series.

Thanks, GameSpot.

With the size of the current install base this is very impressive. I would buy it but I’m not huge into racing games. Too busy playing dead rising 3.

I thought Forza was a system seller though? Since the X1 launch games were supposed to be so great they should have easily been able to sell over 2 million copies like Killzone.

    • AdamBoy64

Yes, over a third of X1 owners have picked it up.
      That’s pretty good.

Will be interesting to see how it goes in the next couple of months.

Has any racing fan here played both GT6 and Forza 5?
I’d be interested to know how they stack up.

GT6 seems to be just a few additions on GT5, whereas Forza 5 seems like a whole new game.

Anyhow, congratulations to Microsoft. That’s great news.

Forza 5 is the better game between the 2.

      • DarthNemesis

But GT sold more and compared to Forza 3 and 4.GT5 sold more than the entire series ha.

So? The most recent CoD game probably outsold them all but who cares? Since when was sales an indication of quality? Of course GT6 sold more than Forza 5.

One is on a console with a 4 million install base and the other is on a console with a 80 million+ install base.

No one was even talking about Forza 3, Forza 4, or GT5.

Between Forza 5 and GT6, Forza 5 is the better game.

I understand that it’s popular to hate MS right now and Sony fanboys have some kind of daily anti-MS qouta to fill but, Forza 5> GT6.

But that’s my opinion and I’m not even a big Forza fan at all. I’m a bigger fan of the Gran Turismo series yet I can admit Forza was better this time.

          • DarthNemesis

I’m just saying you can not compare it to GT because GT is still the standard just like COD. So the majority of racing fans think GT is superior. You are a minority.

            Thanks for your comments.
And yes, it makes sense that GT6 would sell more, due to the install base.

It seems like Forza 5 had a lot more work put into it, whereas GT6 seemed like an enhancement on GT5.

But I haven’t played either of them.
I’d like to see Forza 5 sometime.

I’ve played both. Forza 5’s was on my friend’s console though, and I only played GT6 with a wheel, while Forza on controller. Really love GT6 as opposed to GT5. The tiny additions and ui changes helped a lot. Forza 5, is a very stunning game; it looks GREAT visually. I can’t really say much as I haven’t had too much time with that game, but they’re both fairly solid games. GT6 didn’t add enough though, and left some things out, and Forza 5 apparently took a bit of quantity out too.

Good on Forza though! With all the people complaining about it skimping down as opposed to putting a ton more in…. it’s doing really well! grats! I try not to trust the naysayers.

“Combined, players have driven over 653 road miles…”

I’m guessing that’s probably meant to say – 653 million road miles?

    • Sal Romano

      yeah =/

      • AdamBoy64

Thanks for all your efforts Sal.

  • DarthNemesis

Only one million for one of the best launch games according to X1 fans?

    • MrFinalgamer

Forza has never been the sales juggernaut that Halo or GT are

  • karmacoma

Fantastic. I love Forza. It’s the ONE title I want to buy the most.
