Final Fantasy XV is “quite far into development”

Upcoming sequel "a very high priority" within Square Enix.

Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV is “quite far into development” and “very high priority” within Square Enix, according to Final Fantasy series producer Yoshinori Kitase.

“We can’t give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it’s not as if it’s in competition with Kingdom Hearts III for resources or anything like that,” Kitase told VideoGamer. “It’s quite far into development now and it is being given a very high priority within the company itself, but that doesn’t mean Kingdom Hearts isn’t.”

The producer added that the capabilities of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One allow the games to have more characters and things happening on screen.

“We are quite aware of [PlayStation 4 and Xbox One’s] capabilities and certainly one thing that’s going to come up is having battles with a lot more participants involved,” Kitase continued. “Having a lot more characters, a lot more things happening, that’s one of the things that the new hardware does really well, so to maybe make a battle system for a Final Fantasy game or a future game that fits with that, I think it would be quite good to have more characters for the player to control and more participants in the battle.”

According to Kitase, the team might utilize elements of previous Final Fantasy battle systems when considering future systems.

“In the first two of the XIII series you had the Paradigm Shift system with AI controlled teammates which lends itself very well to having lots of characters,” Kitase said. “Or maybe having even deeper customization, something that harks back to say the Gambit System in Final Fantasy XII.

“All those kind of ideas, it doesn’t necessarily [mean] that something that we’ve used before is now invalid and can’t be used, there’s certainly a possibility of taking it and bringing it back. But I think it’s going to be those kind of changes that the technology allows that we’re going to have to maybe think and adapt for.”

Final Fantasy XV is in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

good to know. can’t wait for yaoi fantasy 15

    • Alkhan

      Good one.

  • epy

Just 5 more years, you guys!!!

    • Timberman

      “PLEASE be excited!”

  • nyobzoo

How much is “far in development?” 2014 release date?

    • https://twitter.com/RyoonZ RyoonZ

      Not much just 8 years.

    • Kattaro

I guess more than 50%. So I think 2015-16 are the most possible dates of release.

    Dissidia Final Fantasy game!!

    • dboyz

a lot more characters, a lot more things happenings &…a lot more of time for developments =)

  • kurosan9712

I know. They’ve developed it for 8 years, and 7 more to go to match the release with the game’s number!

    2020, here we come.

    • ayb_91

It is a possibility though. Anything could happen with SE.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Someone over at Square-Enix should also make an announcement that the sky is blue.

    • badmoogle

Too soon.I don’t want them to rush it.

  • ayb_91

Told you guys that we would need a time machine to travel in time to 2016, but you didn’t listen.

  • Crossbones (Prodigy-X)

Sounds like a 20XV title to me ;)

  • badmoogle

“Hey guys we still can’t say or show anything about a game we announced back in 2006 but rest assure it’s quite far into development!!!”

    • MogCakes

I agree. SE should stay completely silent on the game until it’s ready for show.

  • MrRobbyM

That’s good to hear. Still, I don’t expect it until Spring of 2015. Maybe earlier if things go smoothly.

  • Wolf Star

I’m going to give up about this game, tell me when it’s getting released? This is getting ridiculous, it’s been 8 years and the guys still says the games not ready. 2020 here we come. :3
At least Persona 5 is not stuck in this limbo of hell. :D I can believe in Atlus even more ^^

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Everybody knows Square has fallen… hard. And Atlus is god for games.

      • Wolf Star

After E3 2013, I tought SE has changed and maybe they can get through this. nope.. I don’t know what they are doing.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

E3… they showed off two trailers. That shows nothing. They are idiots.

      • Zackasaur

And yet, Atlus would be incapable of making a game like FFXV.

I love both Atlus and Square Enix, but they have entirely different levels of capability. This game reached development hell for one reason: It is the most ambitious project in the genre’s history. They were obviously running into lots of hardware issues on PS3. With PS4 (and Xbone), though…

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

          >And yet, Atlus would be incapable of making a game like FFXV.

That’s not entirely true actually. I’d be willing to bet there are plenty of people out there that don’t give a rat’s ass about FFXV and would just want the next Fire Emblem. This is a big project, no doubt, but graphics and money invested into a project aren’t all that matters.

I could think of quite a few games I have on me right now that I’d still have more fun with than FFXV and they don’t look near as good. That doesn’t mean they can’t be just as enjoyable, if not more, though.

          • Zackasaur

I didn’t say everyone wants FFXV. Avoid putting false statements into the mouths of others and just try to read what they write.

I said that Atlus could not make FFXV. And they LITERALLY cannot. They don’t have the money, the tech, the people, etc.

I couldn’t care less about what you like and dislike. I was just stating an obvious fact. Square Enix are special in that they are a JRPG powerhouse: They are the only company capable of pouring this much talent and money into a game in this relatively niche genre.

I’ll be right in line with you for Persona 5, sure. But that’s irrelevant.

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

              >I didn’t say everyone wants FFXV. Avoid putting false statements into the mouths of others and just try to read what they write.

You also didn’t say everyone WOULDN’T want FFXV, so please stop putting false statements into the mouths of others as well and just try to read what you write.

              >I said that Atlus could not make FFXV. And they LITERALLY cannot. They don’t have the money, the tech, the people, etc.

Persona 5 could very well be their “FFXV”, so your statement still doesn’t hold any ground here. You’re making a personal statement, not a fact. Just because FFXV will sell like hotcakes does not define how good a game is. Just take a look at Call of Duty and try to defend the game is good just because they sell millions.

              >I couldn’t care less about what you like and dislike. I was just stating
an obvious fact. Square Enix are special in that they are a JRPG
powerhouse: They are the only company capable of pouring this much
talent and money into a game in this relatively niche genre.

Again, opinion. You’re simply using the ‘Final Fantasy’ staple as a “fact” to back up your statement, assuming it will be good because it will sell on the name alone. This does not make them a “powerhouse” by any means though.

I have a couple of friends on Facebook that avoids Final Fantasy games altogether, like the plague, so your “powerhouse” statement doesn’t hold any ground, man. Talent, money, etc. all of that is meaningless and you’re continuing to put too much weight into it. Take a look at how much money and talent was put into Flappy Bird and how successful it became overnight.

It looks like a shitty flash game, but the creator was making $50,000 a day off of it from ad revenue because of how many people were playing it. Once again, money and talent do not determine if people are going to enjoy a game or not… Only the gameplay can determine that. THAT is the fact that you are looking for.

              >I’ll be right in line with you for Persona 5, sure. But that’s irrelevant.

You want to talk about me putting words in your mouth in the beginning, yet you’re assuming I’m getting P5 just because I mentioned it in another statement? Way to go, man. I think I’ll pass on the next “relevant” thing you have to say in regards to this topic, thanks.

              • Zackasaur

“>I didn’t say everyone wants FFXV. Avoid putting false statements into the mouths of others and just try to read what they write.

Did you SERIOUSLY just make the single most imbecilic post I have ever seen on the internet?

I will not read the rest of this nonsense until you have apologised for using the single worst logical fallacy in the books.

          • Budgiecat

This is an ambitious project. Not just in graphics but in scale too. Probably more than any other game. Many just want to see how it turns out.
Atlus certainly is great company but they do not aim for such high ambitions when making their titles. Else SMT IV would have been on the PS3…

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

              >Else SMT IV would have been on the PS3…

Again, opinion and personal preference. Nothing to do with what the company is capable of.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

You act as if FFXV is going to be some sort of god game. It won’t be. Anyways Atlus could make a large and ambitious game, who knows what they are doing for P5 yet. They just don’t want to, as it wouldn’t pay off. There is nothing wrong with it either, as all their games are extremely enjoyable, even without all these pretty fucking graphics that don’t matter.

          • Zackasaur

Your first two lines prove that it probably isn’t worth responding to you, but here I go.

Atlus certainly could make a large and ambitious game… For an Atlus project. If you think Atlus could just decide to make Final Fantasy XV, you know virtually nothing. Not only would it “not be worth it” to them because they can’t afford it and don’t have the talent resources. It literally would not be a possible achievement if they threw every person and yen they have into it. The two companies are on a massively different scale. And I hope Atlus games keep succeeding more and more, so that they can get bigger and bigger! Maybe one day they’ll be just as big and capable.

And I never said there is anything -wrong- with that. I buy Atlus games all the time and have a blast with them. I just think it is important that the JRPG genre has a company like Square Enix that is capable of pushing the envelope… Even if they stumble when they do it.

Whereas, Atlus fills a different role in the genre. And it, too, is a very valuable one.

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

They could do it. You are just trying to defend the dumb fucks at Square Enix.

              • Zackasaur

You are clearly dealing with emotional troubles which far exceed your mental capacity.

I wish you well with those. c:

                • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Aww thanks for insulting my vast intelligence which far exceeds yours. :)

        • EX+

Ya know, you’ve got a point.

    • Samsara09

man, after fucking 8 long years you are giving up now!?I know it is unforgivable, but we musn’t give up yet,not when it is this close…

      • DarkLegacy

        I’m not

        • Wolf Star

I’ll try to hold on as much as possible.

          • DarkLegacy

            I will hold on until it’s released…

            • Wolf Star

I’ll try to forget about this like it never happened until the release date comes. That would make me happy :)

              • DarkLegacy

Hopefully it’ll be released mid-late next year

                • Wolf Star

                  If it’s 2015 I don’t mind :) I can wait.

                  • DarkLegacy

                    Same

                    • Wolf Star

Can’t wait for it to come out :D (hopefully)

                    • Wolf Star

I was thinking just now more and more about XV.. That said that they are adding world map into it. That makes sense. I will wait as well until realese date comes :) I’ll give this “waiting game” one more shot.

                    • DarkLegacy

Is this what the world map will look like in the screenshot?

                    • Wolf Star

                      Yeah that’s the one. :)
Well it might be?? I think? If you look at the other trailers.. there will be more than one locations.

                    • http://www.android.com/ HyperTallih

that is not all i see

        • Samsara09

That is the spirit, pal! We shall stick in this boat till the end.Wolf Star, sir,we are counting on you too!

          • DarkLegacy

            Totally agree

      • Wolf Star

Final Fantasy XV is “quite far into development”
that’s a long time to me.
I’m not giving up easily, I waited and waited and I don’t want to wait another 8 years. I never said I’m willing to give up now. I said I’m “going” to give up.

        • Samsara09

well, whenever this game is released you are definitely going to buy it,so you giving up or no is actually sophistry.

Well,I was indeed waiting for 8 years, but well,I carried on with my life and “forgot” about this game for 6-7 years, till they would give some serious info. Now,however,it doesn’t make sense. They will “soon” give us the release date,I am positive. At least wait till E3.

          • Wolf Star

I’m still going to buy it no matter what!! haha :3 everyone’s been waiting for this game since 2006. for me I knew about this game since 2007 or 08 I don’t remember, then forgot about it until 2011. Then kept waiting until they showed it until 2013. Now waiting again.. I really hope E3 2014 they would show it. that would make me very happy :D

            • Samsara09

I am sure Square Enix is ashamed of this situation, making us wait for more than 8 years…so I believe they are doing their best to release the ultimate final fantasy.
Since they are doing their best with this game,we should do our best to wait.

I am sure we will soon be playin this game.

              • Wolf Star

I pray to god and hope that they do not skip E3 this year or TGS 2014. Since FF13-3 is out of the way and FF X HD is coming next month and FF14 (PS4) in April. That wraps up anymore FF games. That leaves 15. :D

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

      >At least Persona 5 is not stuck in this limbo of hell.

Yeah, I mean it’s not as if we had to go through a port of P3, P4, an anime for P4, P4U, a P3 anime announcement, P4U sequel announcement, or anything like that before FINALLY hearing about P5. Let’s not forget the rhythm game and other P4 title that has to come out first before we’re even remotely close to getting P5.

      • Wolf Star

That’s a lot of persona games coming in 2014 lol. still at least they announced a realese date for it.

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah? I remember when we had a timeframe for FFXV too. So much for that.

          • Wolf Star

            2006-??? (FF Versus 13/ FF15)
            Persona 5 (2011-2014)
hmm lol idk what to say anymore. My mind cannot take Final Fantasy XV is “quite far into development” “far from development”…
            I’m scared.. >_<

    • MogCakes

It was announced before the project was even really a thing. The dev cycle has certainly not been 8 years, it was put on hiatus for a good while. All of it is due to SE’s own mismanagement and dunderhead marketing decisions, but yeah. You have had some massive dedication to be anticipating it that long.

      • Wolf Star

We got 3 Final Fantasy 13 games instead that nobody asked for.

        • MogCakes

          Indeed.

          • Wolf Star

Yep :P now we wait for XV…

    • EX+

Don’t give up hope my friend!
If we’re honest, we’re talking about Nomura. He’s one of the best directors in Japan (In my opinion), but he’s almost known for procrastinating and perfecting his games.
And to be fair, Atlus isn’t speedy when it comes to making games either.
P5 was confirmed to be in development in 2011. The difference between them and SE is that they don’t announce their shit too early. Lol.

      • Wolf Star

I’m not giving up that easily lol :) and your back?? :O woah we missed you :D well I’m buying both!! :D yaya

They would hit the jackpot if they released it around Christmas time.

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I did say Japan… so it would be spring here. Or summer.

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I was talking about Japan too, silly :p

It would help push out more hardware if they released it around Christmas too. Summer would be a better release for NA.

                • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Oh…? I didn’t think Christmas was all that big in Japan. And why would Summer be better here? More free time typically for students?

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Games just sell really well during holidays there, lol. Also, yeah, I was thinking about students and such for us, but honestly… Any teenagers that were waiting for this game have become adults with jobs now since this was announced =3=

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Like me. :p But that doesn’t mean there won’t be kids who want to play this who haven’t heard about it until it releases.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, but I feel like those are the minority compared to the people who have been waiting since the beginning.

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

That is definitely true. Would you agree that KH3 is similar. Or since it was “announced” recently it is different?

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

No idea. I don’t know anything about the KH group. I try to stay away from them.

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

                      Oh? Why is that?

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Not a Disney fan, therefore I already hate KH, lol.

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I hate Disney too, but I play KH for the fun gameplay.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

The gameplay could make me shit rainbows. I still wouldn’t play any of the games.

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

lol You must absolutely despise, apall Disney then.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Nah. I don’t really despise them. That’s a strong word.

I just don’t care for any of their work. Pixar, Disney, Dreamworks, any of that, you can count me out.

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Yah… which there is no problem with. I don’t watch their stuff anymore either, and I hate what they are doing, but that doesn’t mean I won’t play KH because of it. That is a bit silly to me, but again it is your opinion and I respect it.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, to me, it’s no different than adding jelly to a peanut butter sandwich. They mixed Disney characters with Final Fantasy characters, which some may like and that’s great, but much like jelly… Don’t expect me to simply eat the sandwich now after adding something I didn’t want in the first place.

It changes everything about it, so this is how I feel towards KH in general.

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Right that makes sense. I have said I do respect your opinion though. So no worries, ok? ^^

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Er… Even if you didn’t respect my opinion, why would I worry about that? Lol.

Always going out of your way, I see. It’s kind of cute in it’s own crazy way :3

                    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I-I don’t know how I feel about a guy calling me cute or my actions rather. >/< It's mostly a way of repentance though… I've hurt, and likely will hurt people in the future. I come off as rash, though it seems you do as well.

    • echokanon

would even be happy if they can finish it by next year

  • César H. Sandoval

Give us a freaking Release Date, SquEnix!!!!

  • Zuhri69

What does that mean. WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!!!! Moving on, if I were to ever go on a murderous spree; it’ll be because of Final Fantasy XV.

  • Samsara09

The godess of luck is smilin on me!This is a wonderful news.Wait…more participants!?

  • Zackasaur

I am going to cry when this releases.

    • badmoogle

      Together with your grandchildren? :p

      • Zackasaur

        Yes.

    • Elvick

I’m going to squeal. Much like I did with my PS4… and at the reveal of it (and KH3).

      • Zackasaur

        <3

See, I cried when KHIII showed up at E3.

        • Rikimaru

You wanna know something? I was at a nearby futureshop just after school to get a prepaid psn card and I saw a preorder card for Kingdom Hearts 3 so Im thinking to myself why is this here its not releasing in 201………….maybe. So yeah hopes up.

          • Zackasaur

Retailers always want you to pre-order as early as possible, so they must be aware that there is a lot of excitement for KHIII.

We won’t get it until 2016 at best, I think.

  • bloodiOS

Quite far into development without any footage of the game running in real-time on the actual consoles…

    • Zackasaur

You typically don’t get that until we’re in the hype ramp up to launch.

Obviously they could throw out a demo now… But what would be the point? They will wait and make the best live impression in the line-up to launch, just like virtually every other major project does.

Indie projects, especially Kickstarter ones, are interesting in that we see these demonstrations numerous times over the game’s development… But that is because fans are treated more like investors in those situations.

      • bloodiOS

More like they just aren’t far enough to give us an actual functioning demo and probably won’t be at least until the end of this year.

        • Zackasaur

That depends on how you define “functioning.” No doubt, it is playable. That is obvious.

But, yes, it’s not polished to the point where they would want us playing it. Their marketing people keep a very close eye on that stuff, because they want all impressions to be good ones. That’s just PR quality control.

But I agree that we won’t be seeing that for a while.

  • Solomon_Kano

I won’t hope for a release date, but this should at least mean we don’t see it skip E3 again.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

      I would hope it doesn’t.

  • 1Truth

I’d love to see the Gambit system make a return in FFXVI.

  • Elvick

    I would hope.

  • http://www.android.com/ HyperTallih

    Good to hear

  • Bima Natawilaga

Duke Nukem Forever record will be broken, i think

    • rockman29

On the bright side this will probably turn into a game that impresses a lot more people than DNF.

      • TheBlackRabbit

impossible to live up to so many years of hype…..D:

        • kevin

Its been renamed. They hooked a new crowd. Plus, most ppl who waited on vs13 gave up on it.

          • TheBlackRabbit

            Fair enough.

  • http://www.android.com/ HyperTallih

8 years waiting for this game

    • DarkLegacy

Hopefully it’s released mid-late next year, and if not then it looks like we’ll be doing a lot of waiting

      • Guest

It’ll be out in 2015, believe it!

        • DarkLegacy

          I will

    • icup ✔️

i’m still waiting for FF7 remake.

  • Invisbin

Honestly, the way they’ve been talking about this game warrants patience. They want this to be the absolute best. They want to make this the ultimate fighting game, and I will support the fuck out of this.

  • sll1cool1m

I look forward to playing it with my great-grandchildren. Ah who am I kidding I’ll probably be dead when this comes out. This game commited suicide. This won’t ever live up to its hype and these shitty half-assed news without any content every 6 months just make it worse. Reminds me of Game of Thrones ” The dragons they are COMING also the walkers THEY ARE COMING ” meanwhile 10 seasons later…

  • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

Well the latest Dengeki magazine has a coming soon article

    • kevin

      Around when?

      • icup ✔️

        soon.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

      “Coming soon” doesn’t mean shit.

      • http://youtube.com/miyabigaming 武神水樹

        True

    • GODDUKEMONEXA

The lines in LRFF13 epilogue are:

      this journey is over NOW

i wonder when the NEXT will begin

      I only KNOW

      that SOON we´ll be TOGETHER

      Lightning is coming in FFXV

  • KingKellogg The Waffle Haggler

I dont want to hear crap from Kitase, bring Nomura in.He is the one making the game.

  • Lalum

It should be quite far, considering how long it has been.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

It should’ve been done considering how long it has been.

  • Willgaea

Are there any games releasing on 12/13/14?

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

      ? No?

  • Rikimaru

Give it to me. Now. Please. Im excite.

  • MogCakes

I’m perplexed as to why some people think XV would release this year. All indications have been that we’d be getting it in 2015 at the earliest. And come on, look at the year and the game’s title.

    • Willgaea

But that would mean FF16, would come out the following year or 2026…. F****. :[ I refuse to believe in your logic. Unless FF decides to go COD and AC on us.

      • MogCakes

The conditions are ripe for a ’15 release :p

        • Willgaea

          or FF15-2 in 2015 :]

  • icup ✔️

i chose not to read the article, it’s too damn long. i’ll just say hopefully this game comes out before the ps5 lol.

  • GODDUKEMONEXA

Lines of Lightning in the epilogue of LRFF13:

    this journey is over NOW

i wonder when the NEXT will begin

    I only KNOW

    that SOON we´ll be TOGETHER

    Lightning is coming in FFXV

    • Rikimaru

I mean I don’t mind a relationship between her and Noctis but please no her character is so bland.

  • http://kougeru.tumblr.com/ Kougeru

I’m still hoping for a PC release since it’s rather easy to port between PS4/XBO to PC and vice versa thanks to their similarities now.

    • Budgiecat

      Why? Just get PS4

      • 罪罰

better graphics, performance, control options, mods and shit and shut.

        • Budgiecat

I wouldn’t want to control this with mouse n keyboard and I doubt the graphics would improve much (just look at Tomb Raider) so that just leaves performance (unless they manage to hit 1080p @ 60fps on PS4 just fine) and mods (which is no big deal with this type of story centric game)

        • Willgaea

          Better distribution among illegal software.

  • LordKaiser

Please don’t mess it up Square Enix.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

So we’ve got this coming stateside most likely later next year along with the Anticipated Bamco’s “Tales of Zestiria”.
Since it relates to jrpg’s it makes me glad there are Rpg’s coming out this year and next instead of FPS oversaturation.

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Kitase don’t even speak about the Gambit system from FFXII that game is the abomination of the FF series. Most people i know H8 that game.

  • Budgiecat

For a game being made since 2006 I would fucking hope so…

  • Kobracon

All I have to say is; It effing BETTER be…

  • Rikimaru

I wish that the moment production finishes they wopuld announce that the game has gone gold so that, WE the waiting people might actually be at ease.

  • Willgaea

I wonder how many people have died since 2006. :[

  • Zukato

    Funny comments made my day.
