Expert Sphere Grid?? Must watch nao

  • Bob Obb

I only got a few hours into FFX HD before tossing the game just a few weeks ago. I couldn’t even enjoy it because all I could think about was how much they ruined Yuna’s face :/

    • xMCXx

      Ruined how?

      • Anime10121

If screens and vids are anything to go by, the HD models are nice, but are severely lacking in the amount of emotion carried through the characters facial animations the original had…

        • Samsara09

          I wouldn’t say severely…just that,well,the eyebrows aren’t moving so much.

          • Articuno76

Yuna’s low-poly model has completely changed and looks incongruent with her high poly model.

          • Anime10121

It is kinda severe to me though, as that was one of the best features of X to me, the facial animations were some of the best in the industry at the time (and still not too shabby looking today).

And then, theres also what Articuno said…

Maybe I’m too used to not caring about graphics, but it doesn’t seem like they’re that horrible… Compared to what I remember of the original, it seems vaguely different. I can’t recall the faces of the characters portraying emotion in any exuberant way, just their gestures.

          • Anime10121

I’m no graphics enthusiast either, but its noticeable enough in comparison videos that the newer models seem less “lively” than the older ones with their expressions… Still no where near an issue that’d keep me from buying it, as everything else does indeed look better. The character models themselves look a lot better! Its just they kinda skimped on the expressions…

            • http://shinsua.tumblr.com/ Shinsua

Mmm. It could simply be the actual clarification of the model. Sometimes it’s better to have a more muddle face, so that emotions can be mentally created in the player. I have seen plenty of games that, when remade in HD, seem to lose a lot of luster.

              Edit: Downvotes, downvotes without reason.

  • TheExile285

Oh, so they did include The Last Mission in FFX-2 HD.

    • ayb_91

Yup and I sucked in it back then. I hope I won’t this time.

    • Anime10121

After all the hints, I had no doubt, my only question was whether they’d actually go through the trouble of getting the old voice actors back (but considering this is Square, I should have known :D)

  • Unretributed

    That thumb in the screenshot…

    • Ghost Doge

      Sausage links!

  • César H. Sandoval

    An “expert sphere grid” huh?

What’s the difference with the regular one?

  • ayb_91

The sphere grid is turning me on !!

Dear Penance, be gentle to me, k?? xD

  • EinMugenTenshin

Just for records, if you buy it from any online store in the EU you will probably get it around (or even before) the release date in NA. I don’t know why, but it always seem to be like this.

  • bloodiOS

The jump to 1080p is delicious!
By the way, I love the newly remastered Eternal Calm but CG?! *LOL*

    • Budgiecat

      Its okay….

I woulda preferred if S-E had handled it themselves instead of outsourcing to some Chinese company.

Also, I was hoping for all the multiple character models to be replaced by one superior character model and for the NPC’s to be improved more as well as their framerate animation (still looks wonky).

And of course there’s the troubling plastic surgery makeovers of Tidus and Yuna….

      • bloodiOS

The Chinese developers that Square Enix hired is the same team who made props for The Last of Us, right? Either way, while some areas can surely be improved, I don’t think the makeover is all that bad. While the high-quality models used during cutscenes don’t seem as natural when compared to those of the original game, the replaced models for the ones used during battles are definitely way better (looked downright freaky in the original game.)

        • Budgiecat

          huh? Your wording is confusing…

          • bloodiOS

Let’s remember that in the original game, there are two types of models: high-quality ones for cutscenes, and low-quality ones that are used during battles and traveling (also in a few cutscenes.) The newly updated models that are used for cutscenes can be a hit or miss, depends on the scene. However, the updated models used during battles and traveling is much better than the original.

            • Budgiecat

You still missed my point: there should have been ONE universal model used for everything; not multiple ones anymore…for the sake of visual consistency…

              • bloodiOS

Have you ever thought that maybe that’s not how the engine works? Remember that they’re just remastering it, not remaking it from the ground up.

                • Budgiecat

Didn’t Nomura say they had to make KH 1.5 HD from the ground up because they lost the source material?

In any case, I dont see how implementing character models would cause the engine not to function

                  • bloodiOS

Nomura could’ve been bullshitting, who knows. Either way, the problem isn’t that the engine won’t function, it’s that it probably won’t produce optimal results on the PS3. Remember, the game is already pushing 1080p, on 7-year-old hardware. And as far as I’m concerned, the quality of all models in the HD Collection is pretty much all similar to one another, the only difference is that combat and traveling models don’t have that extra set of animations that cutscenes models have.

                    • Budgiecat

                      what? They’re obviously lower poly

                    • bloodiOS

Maybe, I don’t have the actual copy yet so I wouldn’t know for sure. But watching gameplay video and such, I wasn’t able to instantly pick out the differences.

              • bloodiOS

                I didn’t down-vote you, by the way.

  • new_tradition

I loved how the original game made a way to let you rewatch cutscenes, but I wish it was extended to the regular in-game scenes too. Had a lot of saves made just to rewatch some fave scenes. But there’s youtube and the internet in general now, so it’s not such a big deal, but I might still do it for nostalgia, lol.

  • Wolf Star

I never played X or X-2 I’m thinking about getting HD on Ps Vita :D is it worth it??

    • Syltique

Oh yeah. Better than Persona 4 easily, and it’s twice the value at $40.

Buy this and play FFX with headphones on. The new OST is amazing.

      • Wolf Star

Alright awesome :D I’m buying on Ps Vita since I need games for vita lol and plus I have PS3 too lol I prefer taking FF on the go :D (except for 15 that will be epic on my TV screen *__*

        • DarkLegacy

“(except for 15 that will be epic on my TV screen *__*”

You would also be thinking that it will look epic when you’re using remote play(even KH3 too)

          • Wolf Star

Haha true.. Playing on PS vita :D yaay

      • Kobracon

Wow I’m conflicted about how to feel about that sentance…..I certainly love both but I wouldn’t say one is better than the other…

      • kiri25

I wouldn’t classify ffx better than P4, of course that’s each persons opinion on which game is better. For me ffx was ok in the series but hold nothing against ffvi by far the best ff in my opinion.

    • ayb_91

Yes it is. However, those people who work in SE are so sick and putting tons of spoilers in their trailers. So, don’t watch them for the game’s sake.

I personally will get the Vita version. The lighter the better. :3

      • Wolf Star

I saw one of the HD trailers but on the YouTube comments they said it’s spoiler (after I watched it) I don’t know what is happening in the trailer. It was a lot in the trailer. I have forgotten about it now. I’ll buy it then :D

    • Kobracon

      Very

      • Wolf Star

        Awesome :D thanks I’ll buy it ^^

    • DarkLegacy

      Yes :D

      • Wolf Star

        Yaay :D

  • Elvick

I can’t wait to play through FFX again and beat it legit.

And I can’t wait to grind out skills in FFX-2 again. I loooove the job system in JRPGs and I looove the battle system of X-2, best in the series for me. Putting it on wait in the trailer though… come on SE. That’s a Sin. *cough*

    • Kobracon

Wow theres nothing I can Seymour about that pun.

  • Kobracon

Oh god….I’m feeling something strange in my pants….did….did someone cast Waterga?

  • PrinceHeir

My personal favorite FF Game :)

    can’t wait for my CE!!!

  • SOLOmio

i still want XII to be redone for vaans sake. Dude is the only main of FF series that didn’t felt like a main hero of the game and spin of’s only made it worse
    so redemption for Vaan
