Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate enters the top five.

Famitsu Top 30 (Issue 1317)

Persona 5 remains most anticipated in this week’s Famitsu reader top 30.

Meanwhile, Samurai Warriors 4 overtook Final Fantasy XV and Mario Kart 8, moving from position four to two in the top five, likely due to its approaching release date.

And new to the top five this week is Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which booted out Kingdom Hearts III. This isn’t too surprising. If anything, I was surprised Monster Hunter wasn’t in the top five last week.

Get the full top 30 below.

Damn…Persona 5 is at the top of list…which is surprising.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Topped last week too, so it isn;t that surprising is it?

  • shogunknight

Wow, nice and diverse. One can probably predict the outcome of these games before they are released. From this analysis, these games sales would end up good

  • http://www.guidingtech.com/ Alvaro Bernedo

It’s surprising to me that Phantasy Star Nova for Vita is not showing up on these lists. The franchise is supposed to be pretty huge.

    • Tre W

I’d chalk that up to the notion that we really haven’t seen much of anything for the game since its unveiling back in September.

When Sega actually starts showing off the game more, it should get more attention on polls like this.

      • http://www.guidingtech.com/ Alvaro Bernedo

That’s the only thing that comes to my mind as well, although games like P5 and FFXV haven’t shown much either.

On the other hand, I’ve learned not to read too much into lists and scores by Famitsu, since they tend to be way off sometimes. I only rely on them fully when it comes to sales tracking.

        • Akimitsu

Well, Persona 5 is still talked about in news (just yesterday with the US release announcement), even if nothing new has been released.

  • Pyrofrost

The funny thing about Samurai Warriors 4 is that I completely forgot I preordered that game a few months ago; until I was looking over my order history this morning.

  • new_tradition

Interesting… The Evil Within managed to get into the list twice with the PS3 version higher, but MGS5 Phantom Pain ranks highly for the PS4 version with the PS3 version not making it here at all.

I guess for games that seem to be a while off, people are willing to get the 8th gen version?

  • Six

Nice to see The Evil Within so high up. Hopefully Bethesda gives it the marketing push it deserves.

  • DarthBrian

19/21. [PS3] The Last Remnant (Square Enix, ganbatte)

“Square Enix, you can do it”? o_O

    • Cygdor

      lol! Just noticed that.

  • Zackasaur

I want Curtain Call in the west. :c

    • Pyrofrost

      Same here!

I’m sure it will come, it’s more a matter of when. Hopefully a song list goes up soon!

  • http://xcite79.1up.com Keegs79

It clues you in how terrible XB1 is going to do that it doesn’t have Titanfall on there anywhere. Granted they don’t like FPS so what will be XB1’s Japanese killer app???

    • Pyrofrost

      And, here we go~

When Platinum inevitably unveils their Xbone exclusive, things are going to get real depressing.

Gonna feel real sorry for their CM and their employees on Twitter. Again.

        • Pyrofrost

Yeah, there will be some crazy surprise that pisses off Sony fanboys everywhere.

We already know that the XBone isn’t going to rack up big numbers in Japan; and that MS is going to likely be cautious and push a low-run of their consoles.

It just seems like threads are going there daily now; and are becoming nothing more than PS4 > XBone, Sony fanboy circle-jerks.

I love my JPN consoles and gaming as much as anyone here; but why does the same discussion with the same points need to be made almost daily. That was the reason for my reply to the OP.

This is one of the few things I wish the admin (Sal and Zero) would set a rule about and enforce.

    • DarthBrian

      Sakaguchi RPG.

      • AdamBoy64

Yes, at the moment that’s one of the games I’m looking forward to most this gen.

      • https://twitter.com/GaleGlory89 KiQun

Haven’t heard about it for a while. Any solid information regarding this title? Please don’t tell me it will be on Xbone.

    • Six

Whatever Microsoft drums up for Japan, I’m sure there’ll be no shortage of people who absolutely hate it, just because it’s not on their platform of choice.

      *cough* Bayonetta 2 *cough*

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Making something exclusive on something selling as terrible as the Wii U is a terrible choice, period.

        A. They released the first installment on PS3 and 360, and created a fanbase among those communities
        B. They decide to alienate their fanbase by making it an exclusive title on a console the game wasn’t even present on before (since it came out before the Wii U, I’m going to use Wii here)
        C. They release the game exclusively on a console that couldn’t even sell if it was covered in milk chocolate and put in front of a fat guy

All around, it was a god awful decision and I hope they pay for it. If they wanted to go multiplatform with it, fine, but to screw over the fans of the original while riding Nintendo’s dick? That’s just pathetic and I won’t have any sympathy for them when it bombs.

        • Six

You just proved my point. Thank you.

Nintendo was the one who saved the game from cancellation, and Platinum doesn’t exactly make runaway hits, so they aren’t in a position to turn down work.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

The only thing that I proved was that Platinum was eager for Nintendo’s dick, lol. They gave them an offer and they were like, “GEE, I GUESS NOBODY ELSE WOULD EVER POSSIBLY FUND THIS! OM NOM NOM!” I’d be willing to bet Capcom or even Atlus could fund that shit (Capcom because it’s an action title with some similar elements to DMC and Atlus because it’s incredibly quirky and awkward, which is something they’re good at).

I really have a hard time believing only Nintendo wanted their hands on it. These guys just jumped at the first bone they were given and settled, lol.

            • Six

              Just further proving my point.

Bayonetta 2 was announced before the Wii U was released at retail. At the time, no one knew it would bomb.

Nintendo had already payed Platinum for the work, so what, they should have just thrown up their hands and bailed? I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work that way.

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Just saying, man. You can slice it any way you want, but the only thing I’m proving at the moment is that people have a justifiable reason to be upset. Imagine starting a trilogy of games that only work on a Mac (crazy, I know), then when you get to the third one, you have to play it on Windows.

I’m sorry, but if you say that wouldn’t be frustrating, I’d have to say you’re lying through your teeth.

                • Six

There is a difference between being upset or frustrated, and sending Platinum employees death threats on Twitter.

You don’t think I’d rather play the game on my 360? Sadly, things didn’t work out that way.

But, I’d rather have the game get made as a Wii U exclusive than not at all.

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I guess that’s where we are different in that regard then. I’d just assume the game didn’t exist at all if I, as a fan of the original, am being pushed aside like this. Between not getting the game made and constantly being kicked in the teeth, I’d take the former any day.

                    • Six

That’s your decision. You can justify it any way you like.

I, however, will be enjoying Bayonetta 2 when it arrives exclusively on the Nintendo Wii U™.

                    • Forty

You come across just as obnoxiously as he does. I’ll be enjoying the game when it comes out too, but the only thing as frustrating as the people complaining about Nintendo supporting Platinum are the ones treating Bayo 2 as exclusivity dick waving material.

                    • Six

Yeah… no. I’m not a Wii U fan. I’m not even a Nintendo fan, outside of The Legend of Zelda.

                    • Pyrofrost

                      and Monolith :p

                    • Six

                      I never played Xenoblade. :O

Xenosaga was cool though. Except for the second one.

                    • Pyrofrost

Yeah, the only thing that pulled me through the second was the story, that gameplay was tedious as fuck, lol.

Xenoblade definitely lived up to the hype imo though; one of the few games to ever do that.

                    • Forty

That doesn’t change the fact that waving the game around and claiming people will be upset about it is insanely obnoxious. I don’t agree with most of his criticisms of Platinum/Nintendo here, mind you. Just that you’re not acting any better than him.

I’ve seen this discussion a million times and both sides are equally as childish and obnoxious. People need to learn to deal with the fact the game is on the platform, but people also need to learn to deal with the fact others have (sometimes valid, sometimes not) criticisms of the game being on that platform too.

                    • $18114340

                      What’s that sound?

Oh, the voice of reason. I’ve not heard it for some time. Did not recognize it.

                    • Six

I think you are taking my response too seriously. I understand his frustration, and the frustration of others.

I even said I’d much rather play it on my Xbox 360. Would have saved me $250 for a little while longer.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Good for you. As long as you don’t rub it in people’s faces, I’m cool with that. The last thing you should be doing though is bragging about it though, since that’s a big “fuck you” to the fanbase.

Without the fans, you wouldn’t even have a Bayonetta 2 to enjoy, so just remember that when you’re playing. I certainly don’t see myself buying a Wii U just for this game though. I can’t justify that purchase.

It would be like following a series on TV for a season, then they announce, “Well, due to poor funding, season two will be a Netflix original.” So now I have to go pay money to get a subscription to something I don’t want just for this one thing? Surely you can understand why people would be frustrated about that. The same thing is happening here.

As a fan of the original, they expect us fans to go out and buy a whole different console entirely just to play the sequel. Yeah, no… That shit doesn’t fly with me. They can go fuck themselves for that douche move.

                    • Six

Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to remember Bayonetta fans, like myself, when I’m playing Bayonetta 2.

You seem kind of bothered that I’m not as upset about this whole thing as you are.

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Why would you be as upset? You have the console to play it on, lol. It wouldn’t make sense for you to raise a pitchfork. Hell, I wouldn’t be making a fuss either if I had a Wii U, but again… Why would I buy a Wii U?

Their 3DS library shits on their Wii U library. All people care about on Wii U right now is Bayonetta 2, MH, MUH SMASH, X Zelda, and Y Mario.

                    • Six

Just Bayonetta 2 and Zelda for me, thanks. 3DS isn’t doing much for me, either. I’m just not much for Nintendo franchises, with the one exception.

I owned a Wii for only a short time, so thankfully I’ve got a backlog of titles worth playing.

        • Elvick

To be fair, it’s Sega’s fault that Bayonetta 2 is exclusive. Not Nintendo’s.

They (Sega) didn’t have the confidence in the series that they should have had. Bayonetta sold over a million the last I heard, which was a long time ago. Which is pretty good for a Japanese new IP like it.

And it was a critical darling and fan favorite. It should have been a no brainer for Sega to invest in it’s future.

But they didn’t. So Nintendo did.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I don’t care if it’s Sega’s fault. Whoever was in charge of this should have had more faith in the IP, that’s all, but instead… They were just quick to hand it over to Nintendo as an exclusive.

            Herp derp.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

…But they do like FPS titles. Titanfall or not though, they’re not going to like XBOX One. They’re not fond of Microsoft, period. This has nothing to do with FPS.

      • Shippoyasha

I think MS has a chance if they court a ton of games in Japan but they aren’t doing that yet. Not to mention the price is too high if they want to court the recession flogged Japan.

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

It will just be the same how it was with the 360. Put some VNs and shmups on it with a handful of nice exclusive titles, then that’s it.

  • Budgiecat

The Last Remnant has got to be some on going inside joke…..

    • Guest

Have you ever played The Last Remnant, or even taken a decent look into it? It’s the kind of RPG that symbolizes unfriendly mechanics, worthless details, and hand tossing. The kind of stuff one might imagine a hikikomori would hold over someone else’s head if they’ve beaten it.

      • Syltique

I loved it. The battle system is a little strange, but it’s got a dozen very interesting, and large cities in the game, side quests, tons of NPCs and generals to recruit, and a fantastic OST. It’s also one of the only SQEX IPs with multiple races of player characters, like Ivalice and Vana’diel.

        • Izzeltrioum

I’m playing TLR (PC) right now. The setting is nice; the war part too. Just finished my first battle.

I’ve heard mixed opinions about the game, but I have this feeling I’ll join the few minority that upvotes this.
