Persona 5 on top, as it was last week and that before it.

Famitsu Top 30 - Issue 1316

It’s been a while since we did one of these, but I happen to have the latest issue of Famitsu on-hand, so here goes it.

The most wanted game by Famitsu readers this week (and last week, and the week before it) is Persona 5 for PlayStation 3, due out in winter this year. Making up the rest of the top five are Mario Kart 8 for Wii U, Final Fantasy XV for PlayStation 4, Samurai Warriors 4 for PlayStation 3, and Kingdom Hearts III for PlayStation 4.

It’s worth noting the PlayStation 3 versions of Yakuza: Ishin and The Evil Within are beating out the PlayStation 4 versions. But the PlayStation 4 version of Watch Dogs is the only version on the chart.

Get the full top 30 below.

Oh, I must have missed it in the list, lol. I thought they gave up on it.

        lolnever

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

      xD lolnever Love it.

    • Ash_Riot

Same should be said of The Last Guardian.

      • Zackasaur

Nah, at least we know that The Last Guardian is happening. And we can be pretty sure that it’s a PS4 exclusive.

        • Ash_Riot

Oh, Ueda contacted you personally, then? I’ll believe it when it actually gets a release date. The game has been in development forever, you know.

          • Kingdom17

Same for FFXV ;) But now we do now its still coming and wasn’t scrapped.

            • Ash_Riot

At least FFXV has had a trailer since The Lost Guardian’s (which was ages ago).

  • Guest

I guess they gave up on The Last Remnant then? :p

  • Elvick

So no Persona 4: Dance Dance Revolution? (forgot what it was called :P)

Freedom Wars isn’t surprising, nice to see Soul Sacrifice Delta up there.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

      Persona 4: Dancing All Night

      • Elvick

Right, thanks. Persona 4: DAN… xD

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

DAN… so close to a double dance name. xD GOT IT! Collector’s Edition. P4:DANCE. YES!

  • http://Gematsu.com Vayne

I think Hatsune Miku Project Diva F 2nd will not sell as the first.

    • Nightcore34

Really? While it’s quite low on the list don’t forget that there are many other games that didn’t get a mention so getting a mention is pretty good.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, the games have been selling worse with each installment, so that certainly isn’t helping :/

        • dark-kyon

in 3ds maybe, diva f in ps3,vita is the best selling miku game.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Ummm… Yeah. Project Diva titles have been doing badly since the first on PSP. It did fine, but then they started selling less and less. By comparison, Project Diva F for PS3 also didn’t sell well.

I don’t expect this one to be any different. I’d estimate at around 200k in the first week total and that’s a huuuuuuuuuge maybe.

EDIT: Just did a check to make sure and yep… Project Diva F sold 110,229 units in the first week, so I don’t know where you’re getting your optimism from.

            • Kevadu

Are you seriously basing your statement on the sales of a PS3 port of a game that was released months earlier (and did much better) on Vita?

The series has been doing consistently well. Your claim that it’s “been selling worse with each installment” is just plain wrong.

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Ummm… No? I’m basing my statement by following Media Create Sales figures that show how well each installment has sold initially. The fact still remains… Project Diva sold well on PSP, Project Diva 2nd didn’t sell as well, Project Diva f on Vita was worse (although it was good for Vita as a whole along with Persona 4 Golden, also a port of a PS2 game, herp derp), and Project Diva F for PS3 sold worse.

So yeah, excuse me for thinking Project Diva F 2nd will sell even worse than the last one on Vita AND PS3. It’s just the pattern of things right now. I’d love for Miku to be doing great right now since I’m a fan of the games, but I’d be a fool to think they games are actually selling well.

Use Google and do your research, man. My statement isn’t without merit. That franchise is in a decline right now.

                • Kevadu

I did my research. I suggest you check your own numbers.

Project Diva 2nd sold over twice what the first Project Diva sold. So you’re just plain wrong about that.

Project Diva Extend sold worse than 2nd, but still a lot better than the original. And it was billed more as a greatest hits collection than a totally new game so that’s pretty good considering.

Project Diva f/F only sold worse if you split them up. If you actually count both versions together (they *are* the same game after all and this is the first time the game was released on two platforms) then it’s the best-selling Project Diva game yet. Admittedly that’s not a completely fair comparison because some hardcore fans double-dipped, but you would have to claim that something like 75% of F’s sale were by people who already had f in order to believe it didn’t at least reach a larger audience than Extend. And I don’t buy that.

There hasn’t been a big jump in sales since 2nd, but there is absolutely no sign of a consistent decline like you’re claiming.

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Haha, okay. You’re right. Miku has the best selling games in GLORIOUS NIPPON.

Forgive me, Kevadu. I’m obviously talking out of my ass.

        • Nightcore34

Have they?, I’ve only recently bought into the instalment with the latest one so I have no clue about the others but It’s a good game, the gameplay might get a little stale I can understand that but it’s all new songs and PV’s.

  • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Persona 5 on top like it should be. :3 Surprised to see MK8 above FFXV though.

  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

It’s kind of crazy to actually see Persona 5 higher on the list than Final Fantasy XV. It’s also surprising to see The Evil Within (should actually be Psychobreak since it’s the Japanese version) higher than a Monster Hunter title too. New Love Plus+ higher than Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin! just scares me, lol.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Persona is huge… what surprised me is MK8 above FFXV.

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I always put anything Mario above Final Fantasy when it comes to Japan, honestly.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

I could understand a traditional Mario platformer. But the kart racer? Hmm…

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

            It’s still Mario, lol.

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

              True enough.

          • AdamBoy64

Mario Kart Wii outsold Mario Galaxy last gen, which is a bit of a surprise, but yeah, I’d say it’s possible.

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

              Really? Nice.

        • Budgiecat

Mario 3D World sold like crap though in Japan recently….

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yep, yet they still love Mario, lol.

          • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Mario 3D World sold great in Japan.

            • Budgiecat

              no it sold like crap

              • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

500k+ is selling like crap in Japan to you? lol.

I am not even sure if you believe what your saying.

                • Budgiecat

                  For a Nintendo game yes

                  • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

                    For any game in Japan.

                    • Budgiecat

500K is not crap for “any game in Japan” some niche titles thats a great number.

For Mario, thats a crap number

You honestly think if FF XV came out and sold 500k that would be a great number too?

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Barely any game in Japan hits 500k. Less than 5% do……yet you would argue for Mario that is crap? come on

                    • Budgiecat

                      “Barely any game”?

You need to pay more attention…

                    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Monster Hunter and Professor Layton doesn’t exist to him. I guess we can scratch off Gundam Extreme VS while we’re at it.

                    • Budgiecat

I was just about to type those too among many others…

                    • AdamBoy64

I’m not trying to take sides specifically, but I thought the numbers for Super Mario 3D World were a bit low.

However, Mario titles in the past have had a lot of longevity in the charts. I’m hoping it’ll stay up there for a while.

Here’s hoping for good initial sales for MK8 too.

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

They launched low, and then came on strong. Sales as they stand now, The game has sold over 2 mil copies globally.

                    • AdamBoy64

Oh right, yep. I was just talking about Japan there, as this list is from Japan.

Nice that it’s sold better in other regions.

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Japan came on strong too :)

                    • AdamBoy64

                      Not.. particularly.
It had the lowest first week sales of any 3D Mario game.

It’ll get there though, I’m confident.

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

And it also had the lowest install base of any system when a 3D Mario Launched. Comparitively, it sold just as well.

                    • AdamBoy64

Yeah, there is that. It doesn’t change the fact, but that is a good reason for it.

They need to get more Wii U Consoles out the door.

I think it’ll be a popular title in the future for people picking up a Wii U, which is a big reason why I’m thinking it’s going to sell well.

                    • Budgiecat

We’re talking about Japan here. Leave the global out and quit padding numbers

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Yeah, it sold amazing in Japan. It is probably over 600k which would put it in the 1% of all games sold through retail in Japan.

                    • Budgiecat

Stop it with those ass pull percentages and ever increasing hypothetial sales numbers…

Also stop downvoting me. You know how sensitive I am about that…

                    • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Look at the last 10 Media Create polls

How many games besides Puzzle & Dragon, Monster hunter 4, ect go over 500K? not many.

I will downvote you if I think your being ridiculous, if your sensitive about internet downvoting, you have issues. I think I am done responding to you.

You went back 10 years. You made my point. I said 10 mediacreate polls……..

in 10 years that is statistically nothing

                    • Budgiecat

lol I could have kept it within 10 media create polls and still proved you wrong. I just went for overkill. And what does the years mean anyway. What difference does that make. Nothing. A game sale is a game sale is a game sale. Just proves you even more wrong.

    • MrFinalgamer

well FFXV has been in dev. hell for such a long tme, and P5 got announced fairly recently, along side it having some crazy momentum thanks to the P3 movie. but MK8 beeing higher than FF is just weird…

    • Budgiecat

It’s crazier to see the Japanese still wont let The Last Remnant go…

  • MrFinalgamer

looks like Persona 5 will be the first SMT game to break 1M, unless PersonaQ beats it to it

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Persona Q definitely has promise but 5 is more likely. <3 YAY Atlus-sama. xD

    • Eder García

not watching PQ higher in the rank is worrying right now, but im expecting 400k in its first week.
but P4G has chances to break the 1M mark, is almost at 700k. those new Vita owners in Japan will buy that game, no doubt about it.

  • DesmaX

“21/21. [PS3] The Last Remnant (Square Enix, lolnever) – 159 votes”

    Sal, you glorious bastard.

But I’m surprised to see that game here. Hope Square gives it a second chance one day

    • Elvick

      PS4… BELIEVE

      • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Actually… As CRAZY as it sounds, they could very well be waiting for PS4 to come out and simply port the PC version to PS4 since the infrastructure is similar. The development time wouldn’t take near as long as it would if they were making it on PS3.

They probably felt more constricted on PS3 due to RAM issues. We all know how terrible the 360 version was, lol.

        • Kingdom17

Oh, don’t remind us! :D It was one of my favorites but it froze and lagged so much.

  • Martian Wong

FFXV and P5 are my most anticipated games.

    • AdamBoy64

That’s a cool idea. Make our own lists based off this.

My most anticipated games here are MK8, Zestiria and Hyrule Warriors.

      • Martian Wong

I never know such thing called Hyrule Warriors exist. Interesting. So far we have Dynasty Warrior, One Piece Warrior, now Hyrule. What is next? Evangelion Warrior? Gurren Lagann Warrior?

        • Altin

          You forgot Gundam Musou.

  • klkAlexar

Yay Persona! I’m so happy HM, OMDB2, and BS are also being anticipated.

  • Budgiecat

I find Mario Kart 8 hard to believe seeing as how horrible Wii U titles have been selling recently in Japan let alone the Wii U itself…

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

They could announce a new Mario playable on a rock and it would still be ranked high.

      • Budgiecat

I guess in the end they’re not as quick to pulling out their wallet as they are to cast a vote….

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, it certainly is one thing to say, “I want this!” and another thing entirely to go out and actually spend money on it.

    • AdamBoy64

Hopefully it gets some big sales for Nintendo when it comes out.

And here’s hoping Super Mario 3D World can hang on the charts for a while and pick up some more sales.

      • Budgiecat

Doubt it. Japanese sales are very front loaded. Mario 3D world if increased, will be a very slow methodical trickle over many years

        • AdamBoy64

Yeah, it could take some time, but Mario titles seem to hang in there a while. I’m confident it’ll do well.

I mean, I can’t remember how many years ‘New Super Mario Bros’ was in the top 20 for.

I guess because Mario games get a good attach rate when people pick up consoles.

So, well, a lot of it will probably depend on sales of the hardware, really.

  • Eclipse

My vote would have also went to P5.

It’s also nice to see Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson up there.

    • Pyrofrost

Where have you been! I feels like forever since I seen a comment from you xD

Like you, my vote would have went to P5. I’m also happy seeing the Musou love and Senran Kagura 2! Though the lack of Sen no Kiseki II and Ys on this list kinda saddens me, but I guess they can’t all be JRPGs and Musou, right xD

      • Eclipse

Sorry for the late reply. I’ve been spending most of my free time reading through some LNs these past few months, so I’ve been trying to limit how much time I spend online XD

Yeah, I think it’s nice seeing so much diversity in this list.

Oh, and speaking of Musou, I’ve been meaning to try out that Kamen Rider game for the PS3, it looks incredibly fun. What especially has me interested in it is the fact that you can use motorcycles, haha.

        • Pyrofrost

It’s no problem, and I understand. I just happen to enjoy seeing your responses, as you and I tend to be on the same page quite often. Have you been enjoying the reading though?

If you want to play the Kamen Rider game on PS3, I can answer absolutely any questions you might have about it. I had a blast playing it to 100% completion when it came out. Only problem is that I platted it on a different PSN, so I’m actually thing of running through it again on mine. It’s kind of bothering me to not have the 100% completion I earned on my own account xD

But yeah, if you want to know anything about it, just ask. The motorcycle riding is actually fun once you get used to the mechanic; but if you happen to be going for the trophies it gets really tedious. I will tell you more if you’re interested to know.

Also, what consoles do you own, if I may ask.

          • Eclipse

Yep! I finally decided to get an Android phone a few months ago, so I’ve really been enjoying that app from Baka-Tsuki <3

            100% Completion FTW!

Would I be able to just jump straight into the game despite not being too familiar with the Kamen Rider series? I haven't watched any Tokusatsu shows in a long time, so I'm not sure if I'd be missing out in the game, story-wise.

Here's some of the consoles that I currently own: PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, PS Vita, and a 3DS LL. My Wii is being borrowed (that sounds so wrong, lol) and I gave away my Xbox 360 (It barely has any exclusives that interest me and I don't care at all for FPS & sports games).

            • Pyrofrost

Oh, nice! I’ll have to look into that app ^_^
This kind sounds like me when I got on an anime kick a couple of months back. Since I got tired of downloading and stuff; I just subscribed to a few streaming sites. It has been really nice! Though I do download Kamen Rider and Super Sentai xD

Yeah, you can jump into it and enjoy it. It’s simply an original X-over story. Just don’t expect the most stellar gameplay though. As this isn’t developed by Omega Force. It’s developed by Eighting. Still good and fun, but it does need some polish.
About the story, what I am not sure of is if Battride War 2 will be another all new story, or if it will be a continuation of the first.

And we should totally add each other on PS3 and 3DS. We share a lot of interest, so I would love to have you. I think we can be good friends ^_^

              FC: 4656-6491-7935
              PSN ID: Pyrofrost

              What’s yours?

              • Eclipse

The cool thing about that app (BakaReader EX) is that it allows you to download the LNs straight to your Android device so you can read them while being offline, which is very convenient. Baka-Tsuki has a huge selection, but I’ve been mainly reading Toaru Majutsu no Index and the Monogatari Series.

Very nice! My main streaming sites are Crunchyroll and Daisuki.

Sweet, I’ll import a copy. Thanks for the info ^_^

I’ve never actually used my 3DS online before, so I’m not too familiar with how those Friend Codes work. I also don’t have a PSN ID, but I’ll make an account later this year, and you’ll definitely get my ID.

If possible, it’ll end up being Eclipse XD

                • Pyrofrost

I have yet to watch Index, but I absolutely love the Monogatari series. This sounds like a very handy app though. Lucky for me, I also have an android phone! So I will definitely be checking out this app.

As far as my streaming services go; I use Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Anime Network.

Here is how friending works on 3DS.
This is assuming you have your mii set up.
First, you click the smiley at the top of the home screen. Then, on the next screen, you click “register friend” at the top. You will then get a choice for “local” or “internet,” choose internet. Then you input my code.
After that, go back to the home screen, then click the smiley again. To the right, you should see a card with your mii on it, click that card. On the top screen, you should see an enlarged version of your card. That 12 digit number is your friend code. I will need to input that on my 3DS, then we are added, YAY :p

Adding friends on PS3 will be much more simple. Just let me know when you have your ID and I will send you the invite for you to accept. I look forward to having you!
I wish you luck on getting Eclipse though. If it’s taken, you may need to create some variation of it.

Also, when you get Kamen Rider Battride War, feel free to ask me any questions. I will do the best I can to help if you need it ^_^

                  • Eclipse

I used to use Funimation, but their site just randomly gives me trouble all of the time >_<

Ah, that does sounds pretty simple. I got that SMT 3DS LL (I don't have my original 3DS anymore) and little did I know that I'd need a JP power adapter for it… I would've ordered one last year if I had known. It's just been sitting in its case all this time. Don't worry though, I'll definitely give you my FC when I eventually start gaming on it XD

Will do! I sure hope that my username isn't taken… I mean, I've been using it for over a decade!

Sure thing. Thanks for all of the helpful info ^_^

                    • Pyrofrost

Yeah, at times for me it has buffering issues; but I would rather deal with buffering than a premium sub that still has ads. That drove me mad when I was using hulu plus xD Overall, while I do use Funi, most of my watching takes place on Crunchyroll and Anime Network.
The only thing that bothers me is that I still have to do a bit of torrenting to get OVAs, ONAs, and special eps that come with a LN or DVD/BR sets.

Yeah, friending on 3DS isn’t necessarily hard, it just requires more to do than necessary.
btw, /envy with you and your SMTIV 3DS :p.
Did it not come with a power adapter?
Or are you talking about a plug adapter?

I know what you mean about your user name though. I’ve been using mine for about a decade, ever since I played FFXI. I’m not saying it will be, but be prepared, just in case.

And it’s really not a problem, I’m glad I was able to be of some help. ^_^

                    • Eclipse

The buffering on their video player usually never bothers me. I’d say the main problem I had would be how ridiculously long some pages on their site take to load… I sometimes used to wait 3-5 minutes just to log in, but I got so tired of it all that I just never went back again >_<

An AC adapter. Sadly, 3DS XLs in Europe & Japan don't come with them, which is a bit bizarre. It was apparently done to save costs.

Hmm, In that case, I'll probably write my username in some sort of stylized form, haha.

                    • Pyrofrost

I haven’t experienced any issues with loading…yet, I should say. Hopefully I won’t in the future. I can understand your grievance though, 3~5 min is pretty bad.

That’s kinda awkward that it didn’t come with an AC adapter. I mean, you’re supposed to use to to charge the console out of the box before you start playing it xD
I hope you can find one soon though. It’s a shame you’ve had it for so long and its been unusable for you.

I look forward to seeing this stylized for you come up with for your username if the need arises! Oh, btw, I started playing Kamen Rider again on my own PSN now. I’m ready to have a platinum I earned on my own account :p

                • Pyrofrost

In playing this game again, I’d say the biggest flaw is the lack of variety in levels, and the gameplay for some of the characters and the driving is a bit stiff.

Just wanted to mention that so you know what to expect.

  • blank059

A lot of the top games are console games which is surprising.

  • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

Mario Kart is going to do big things for Wii U. Super Mario 3D World sold great in Japan, this should be bigger.

  • Unretributed

More people want HyruleWarriors than Tales Of Zesteria?

    Lol @ Japan

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

      Both are good so eh.

    • MrKappa

      Zelda name brand is strong.

      • Eder García

WHAT DID YOU SAY? Zelda is not strong in Japan and… oh! your name and your avatar… sorry

  • Gariya

lol not a single Xbox game.

    • TheExile285

Should that really be surprising? Does the system even have a Japanese release date yet? Have they announced anything for it in Japan?

      • Rezar

        I don’t think so.

    • DesmaX

That’s sad. Hope D4 can do fine there

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Course not. The list is for Japan.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Has Japan ever really cared about XBOX anything? I only think that was back when iDOLM@STER was exclusive and they had the SanRokuMaru mascot, but they even pulled the plug on him, lol. Japan doesn’t give a shit about gaijin consoles.

      • Budgiecat

As much as I hate M$, that type of xenophobic thinking is kind of depressing. As much as its easy to hate on Western dudebros (because they make it so easy), its not like the West shuns Playstation or Nintendo..or Sega consoles in the past just because it’s a foreign made/owned product..

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

The West doesn’t shun Playstation, Nintendo, or the Dreamcast…?

I’m not even sure what to say to this @w@

          • Budgiecat

            wait wut….they do?

Pretty sure SNES, GENS, N64, PS1, PS2 had amazing sales records in the West and didn’t PS4 sell twice the amount of XB1 in Jan alone? It’s at 5.3 million and counting and no Japan release yet.

        • EspadaKiller

I disagree with you about the xenophobic thinking for foerign products/brands in Japan. Disney and Apple is massively popular in Japan btw. It looks like the Japanese just don’t like Microsoft, because they even prefer MAC OS than Windows.

          • Budgiecat

Apple doesnt just apply to gamers though like XBox does

          • AdamBoy64

I agree. I don’t think the reason why Microsoft doesn’t sell as well in Japan as Sony is xenophobia.

I think Sony make a product that more of the target market enjoy. That’s all there is to it. And there’s nothing wrong with that.

      • Shippoyasha

Not sure about that. It all depends on the games being there at all. Blue Dragon once was very looked forward to as was Lost Odyssey, Tales of Vesperia and Idolmaster. But MS didn’t court more Japanese blockbusters after the first few years of 360.

Games will ultimately bring in the audience in the end. Even the PS3 struggled mightily at first because handhelds even in the DS and PSP era was stealing all the thunder and exclusive releases back then.

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

          >Blue Dragon once was very looked forward to as was Lost Odyssey

Blockbuster titles. Of course those were being anticipated. Look at who was involved with them.

          >Tales of Vesperia and Idolmaster

Tales of Vesperia also got a PS3 port, then iDOLM@STER shifted to PS3, so interest dropped in 360.

          >But MS didn’t court more Japanese blockbusters after the first few years of 360.

“First few years” of the 360 only consisted of milking iDOLM@STER, shmup games, and ADV titles. Once they started losing those, people had less and less of a reason to care about 360. GalGun was exclusive to 360 later in its cycle, but even THAT went to PS3 anyway.

          >Even the PS3 struggled mightily at first because handhelds even in the
DS and PSP era was stealing all the thunder and exclusive releases back
          then.

          Wat

PS3 still doesn’t compete with PSP/Vita and 3DS sales since Japan is more interested in a handheld market rather than the home console market. That never changed.

          • Shippoyasha

360 courted a lot of big games and then it didn’t. That’s all there is to it. The games were there so that’s where people go not because the brand name of a console drives it home. And while it’s true that PS3 didn’t compete directly with handhelds, most devs were jumping ship to handhelds even during early last gen.

PS3 was way more competitive on the western front than it was in Japan where it only started to gain some steam in the last 3 years. Even then, it’s not the kind of flourishing market of the PS2 days. MS probably needs to do way more to court developers if they want to fight the tide of gamers almost exclusively going to handhelds for their gaming fix.

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Sorry, games or not, MS just really isn’t a household name in gaming for Japan. It’s just Sony and Nintendo over there. Sure, the XBOX One will finally release in Japan, but it will sell less than 350k units in the first week and people will go back to caring more about PS4, Vita, and 3DS.

I would say Wii U, but that really isn’t doing well ANYWHERE right now.

              • Kevadu

I would be amazed if it sold anywhere near 350k units the first week…that would actually be a really good launch.

                • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I was kind of going for a best case scenario, haha.

  • TheExile285

    Interesting list.

  • Eder García

    ouch @ Smash Bros.
EDIT: at this rate, the WiiU version will help the console, surprised the 3DS version is ranked very low

    • British_Otaku

This is too small a sample to be representative of how well these games will sell. I have in the past made guesses of how games have done on the 3DS in Japan by having a look at rating quantity (and to a much lesser extent the reception in general which could show good word of mouth)… However, I came across tons of titles which sold perhaps a tenth or ten times what I predicted as even if the ratings could hypothetically have everyone with an internet connection and a 3DS chime in, we get 10s, 100s, 1000s, 10000s of ratings for games which ship in thousands or millions and different subgroups have different interests.

As much as the Wii U one is the main attraction, I don’t expect it to outsell the 3DS version in Japan. Also, just because people picked the Mario Kart 8 or Persona 5 in massive numbers doesn’t mean they don’t have an interest in other titles.

  • Zackasaur

People take these lists too seriously. They mean -something-, but they represent a small, self-selected sample from a niche portion of the Japanese gaming audience.

In other means, statistically, these things are basically meaningless.

I would be interested in seeing some correlation data between the charts and future success, but I don’t personally have the time to do that. I have too many political calculations to make right now. *back to the academic mines*

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

The point to this comment was what?

      • Budgiecat

To realize 569 votes on a game won represent or predict the final sales

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Ok, but who cares? Do people take this list as gospel or something?

      • bloodiOS

This list is for shizz and giggles, don’t look too deeply into it. At least that’s what I think the post is trying to convey.

        • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

But why post something like that? Are people really that concerned about this list?

          • bloodiOS

            Some seem to be.

            • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

              Hmm… I see… well I feel sorry for them.

  • Renaldi Saputra

the Dancing All Night didn’t get charted?

    • bloodiOS

Its fans were too busy pulling off the moves, they didn’t have time to vote.

      • Renaldi Saputra

        possibly

      • Sevyne

        Too busy imagining the step.

    • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Why would it. I think people are getting tired of Rhythm and P4 games.

  • AdamBoy64

People are more excited about a phantom ‘The Last Remnant’ PS3 version than ‘Bravely Second’, or ‘The Last Guardian’.

I guess the Famitsu magazine keeps giving them the option to choose it, for whatever reason.

    • Budgiecat

They should throw in a make believe game and see if people vote on it.

“Godzilla vs Gamera the game (PS4)”
      “FF XVI PS4″

      • Ash_Riot

The Last Guardian isn’t make believe?

    • Gustavo Rosario

Lol but that release date tho

  • almostautumn

I’ve been losing love for gaming rapidly the past few months, and this list proves it. Normally I’d be stoked for all of these, but at this point The Evil Within is the only game on that list that seems like it will be original and creative enough to warrant a purchase.
Eh. Oh well. Time to move on with my life. I’ll keep up with Platinum, Grasshopper, and Tango— and I think that might be it.

    • AdamBoy64

I’ve had those sort of times as well. Where gaming doesn’t interest you.

You might find, like I did, that you’ll pick it up again later on.
      Maybe not.

Ultimately, there’s no point playing games if you don’t find it fun, or if it’s not any benefit to you.

    • PrinceHeir

I’m getting a similar feeling as well.

That’s why PS4 and Wii U might be my last consoles before i stop buying any more games from next gen and on wards.

I might concentrate on my other hobbies more like Anime and Manga etc.

  • Jesse

Huh, figured Bravely Second would be higher. =o

  • Syltique

The Last Remnant on PS3, still holding on to hope.

    • Budgiecat

      like a dingleberry

    • Thomas Anderson

Or you can just get it on the pc and have some relief.

  • https://twitter.com/Stealth___ Stealth

I am interested in most games on the list

  • new_tradition

So hey, how large are these Famitsu magazines? I’m kind of wondering how much material they can pump out every week that people are willing to buy or subscribe to.

I mean, if my math is not too off, they’ve been putting out a mag a week for the last 25 years..? O_o

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

      Like 300 pages.

      • TheExile285

        Wow…

      • DesmaX

Oh, so it’s the Kiseki of game magazines

      • Gariya

        Damn.

      • Anime10121

Damn and thats weekly Famitsu and not the monthly one? Wish we had Magazines that dedicated :(

  • Duc PC-QB

No Sen no Kiseki 2 make me sad ;(

uh-oh.. only one vita game among the 20 most wanted.. Vita is in real trouble, even in Japan

    No Titanfall? lol

I remember when people where asked about the Xbox One in Japan some didn’t even know what it was.

  • PrinceHeir

    Persona 5 is top?!?!

glad to see Psycho Break and Senran Kagura 2 there!

surprise Yakuza Ishin and Dark Souls are not on top 10?

the again, the games are almost gonna come out so they probably have their sights on other future games as well.

    Bravely Default 2nd Oreshika 2!!

  • kuronox

not much vote for Sen no Kiseki 2 and Monolith Soft X :(

  • H3adHunt3r

Watch Dogs at #19?, sweet! :)
