Studio close to finishing the first draft of the game's script.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Sony and The Chinese Room’s upcoming first-person adventure for PlayStation 4, is unlikely to launch in 2014, the studio said on Twitter.

Asked if the game would make release this year, the studio responded, “Unrealistic, rather than unreasonable.”

The studio is currently close to finishing the first draft of the game’s script.

“Reckon by tomorrow I’ll have it in the bag,” it tweeted on January 30. “Non-linearity is tough but fun.”

Thanks, NeoGAF.

Oh, well. I know it will be worth the wait.

  • DarthBrian

    Aww… :(

Sorry, but what is this anyway?

    • OverlordZetta

Yeah I came here expecting a Bioshock game I hadn’t heard about. Not some other game I hadn’t heard about!

    • Impressionnant

It’s a “game” made by the same devs as Dear Esther and Amnesia: Machine for Pigs.

I see. I just thought it kind of came out of left field since I don’t recall seeing anything posted about it before now.

  • bloodiOS

Well, it will be release once it’s ready. That said, I’m a bit curious about when did the development of the game start…

    • Martian Wong

“Well, it will be release once it’s ready.” I hear this phase a lot when it comes to FFXV.

      • bloodiOS

Because it’s true. A game should only be released when it’s ready. Otherwise, it’s no difference than asking people to pay to become β testers. The only thing wrong with FFXV is that the project was announced way too early.

        • Articuno76

SE seem to have a major issue with doing that.

They throw out announcements to bolster up stocks in the short-term, but it chips away at their fan support every time…not that it matters to them when they are still selling so well.

        • Wolf Star

1.) if it’s ready do it!! if not.. delay the damn game and tell is why?
2.) don’t announce games too early
3.) don’t make people wait 8 years for a game that might come out in the future.
that’s what FFXV is doing now.
          >_> or was.. idk anymore. I don’t want another lighting game. It’s like 3 lightning games within whole generation. I’m loosing faith within XV when no new trailers are being shown to the public. or a release date.

          • Martian Wong

Lightning returns…my first impression is Lightning needs to go away!

            • Wolf Star

I’ve played the demo.. it felt the same to me. Idk who idea was it to have a 13 trilogy. I want Noctics (FF15) trilogy instead x3 he is already a badass character and well everything that has happened in E3 2013 is amazing. O__o and even that battle gameplay trailer for E3 2013 :D

              • Martian Wong

I still didnt finish the first FFXIII. I still question why I was willing to pay 65 dollars for FFXIII. Sigh. FFVXIII/XV is everything I wanted. It is FF:AC+Kingdom Heart.

                • Wolf Star

I payed $20 for FF13 lol I never finished it either and sold it >_> .. I rented 13-2 I finished it but that ending wasn’t supposed to be there in the first place. Now for 13-3.. I don’t care. FF XV is the only game that I want too :3 also it’s made by the same people who made Kingdom Hearts and FF7:AC that is making FF XV and Tetsuya Nomura (director of KH) is directing FF XV and It will be an Epic game I feel it ^^

                  • Martian Wong

You are amazing. You got the guts to go though 13-2. I gave up on it. I gave the game for free and got LA Noire in return which is pale in comparison with GTA.

                    • Wolf Star

Thanks ^^ to be honest, FF13-2 was an ok game. LA Noire was actually good :) but I never bought it so I watched it on YouTube and the facial expressions in the game looked really good. I liked it.

                    • Martian Wong

The graphic and facial expression are good, that I agree. But the guessing who is telling the truth and lying is boring and hard to get.

                    • Wolf Star

Agreed dude. Lying and truth parts are tricky, I get stumped when watching a playthrough.

      • Articuno76

Well…it sure as hell isn’t out now :P

I don’t think it’s outside of the realm of reason that maybe the actual development on the game started only as recently as the end of 2013. Up until that point they had been working on Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs under Frictional’s guidance (and using their tech, if I’m not mistaken). They probably decided for their next project, they wanted an original story and an original engine, and developing your own engine is no small task, especially not for a smaller studio. Add to this the fact that it’s PS4-exclusive — that decision couldn’t have been made lightly or even that long ago, and perhaps wasn’t even their first decision of platform — they’re a PC developer and they have to get used to things.

      • bloodiOS

Yeah, I’m pretty sure they said before that their decision for approaching Sony Santa Monica studios in first place was because they’ve decided they couldn’t cover all the costs on their own (and that even crowd-funding wouldn’t make it.) That aside, I’m pretty sure the game is powered by the CryEngine (an engine that is rather easy to work with) instead of building their own engine. Not only that, since they are are working with Santa Monica studios, I’m sure they’re getting a good amount of support on how to develop for the PS4, too. But yeah, I think it’s likely to assume that development began sometimes in 2013, so making 2014 really isn’t very realistic. After all, a big project like this should at least take two years to turn out decent.

  • Elvick

    Can’t wait to play it.

    edit; looks like my reply above pissed someone off! ;_;

  • Alos88

Everything’s been delayed ’til the Rapture

    • shogunknight

Ha! I see what you did there

    • Elvick

You can’t delay something that has no release date… or even a release window.

Is “delay” going to go the way of “rip-off”, “epic”, and other words that gamers misuse to the point they lose all meaning? I keep seeing people throw it around where it doesn’t apply.

      • Alos88

It was a joke, lighten up.

  • Zukato

Haven’t forgotten about Rapture. It’s good that they responded on Twitter. It makes things much easier to plan ahead on what games that I’m going to pick up, and this is one of those games.

  • badmoogle

I really like the atmosphere in all the screens they have released so far of this game.I’m not very fond of first person games (with the exception of Mirror’s Edge) or games that rely too much on story but there’s something about this one that really peaks my curiosity.
