Monokuma restarts his killing game on the deserted Jabberwock Island.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair

Two days after the release of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc in North America and a day before its European launch, NIS America announced it’s bringing sequel Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair to PS Vita in North America and Europe via retail and digital channels this fall.

In Danganronpa 2, players take on the role of a high school student and are once again thrust into a killing game spearheaded by Monokuma. The game begins when your “super cute” teacher takes the class on a school trip to Jabberwock Island, a once popular tourist destination that’s now uninhabited. And then Monokuma shows up.

The game will feature audio in both Japanese and English.

Find a story summary and list of features below.

Story

Jabberwock Island – once a popular tourist destination, this now uninhabited island remains oddly pristine. You and your classmates at the elite Hope’s Peak Academy have been brought to this island by your super-cute teacher for a “lovey-dovey, heart-throbbing school trip.” Everyone seems to be having fun in the sun…until Monokuma returns to restart his murderous game! Trapped on this island of mutual killing, your only hope of escape rests in solving the island’s mysteries. But be warned—sometimes the truth can be its own despair…

Key Features

  • Deadly Island Vibes: Murder is the only means of escape when you’re trapped on this island paradise. As your fellow classmates start dropping like coconuts, you’ll need to delve into each murderous incident, forage for clues, and interview your classmates to reveal the opportunity, motive, and means behind each killer case!
  • Tribal Council: You’ll go head-to-head in all new minigames with the other students during the Class Trial, shooting down their false truths and using your evidence to uncover what really happened. But watch out! If a student is unconvinced, they’ll challenge you to a one-on-one Rebuttal Showdown and force you to defend your argument!
  • Survival of the Keenest: Match up your evidence with your fellow classmates’ arguments and determine who’s really telling the truth. Once you’ve got a suspect in your sights, turn up that tropical heat in a variety of timing- and reflex-based game systems to reveal the ultimate truth and escape with your life!

this is all i have to say…

  • http://kougeru.tumblr.com/ Kougeru

This will be like the 10th time I’ve said it this week. The rest regarding their anime prices…but NIS of A is the best company !

  • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Knew this was coming as well, but still nice, and within the same year, but why two separate games! >.<

    • rekka_zan

Aside from testing the market like they’ve said before, I assume it’s because vita’s cartridge is not big enough to contain dual audio for two games.

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Oh… dual audio is a reasonable reason. Testing the market can shove itself though. Well either way it is nice to have this.

        • Elvick

Yeah, NISA should randomly localize two very text heavy games in a super niche genre and only charge for one of them.

          Yup.

          • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Yah they should, because that was how it was in Japan, don’t be a dumb bitch.

            • Elvick

After both games were sold separately for full price on PSP…

But if you want to continue to believe it makes sense to localize two text heavy games and charge the price of one…

              By all means.

              • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

As I said they were bundled as one.

                • flashmozzg

Only in japan because there it was just an HD port. PORT of already released game that many people had. Here, in the West, DR is being released for the FIRST time. Thats why it is sold as 2 different games. If NISA already did and sold 2 localizations before, than we would have vita bundle.

                  • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

Don’t care, it was bundled in Japan.

                    • flashmozzg

And? It’s still double the ffort to localize 2 games, so if you wanted it to be bundle it would cost double the price + come out only in fall.

    • Ereek

I wonder how many times it needs to be said.

Freshly localizing the amount of text and voices in two separate VNs and selling it for the price of one is not feasible. It’s ridiculous to expect otherwise.

      • http://www.cubiz.tk/ Auragar

As many times until it is rectified.

Everyone should go buy Danganronpa 1 now.

Unless you’re in Europe, then you have an excuse to wait until tomorrow.

    • MrFinalgamer

i´ll be buying it this weekend along side Virtue´s last reward (i know, about time i got around playing both games)

    • Kayseur

Mine arrives in the mail tomorrow (well, today since it’s 4AM here), but I know I’ll love it (already played the demo).

    • Raiyu

It snowed and and the roads were frozen over for the past three days :(

I’ll get it tomorrow with Toukiden.

  • bloodiOS

    Oh, heck yeah!

  • AdachiTohru

I told you, it’s the vita year !

    • Budgiecat

So why hasn’t Namco wisened up and localized God Eater 2 and why hasn’t Sega come to their senses and localized PSO2?

      • Elvick

Well, it’s not like the PC version of PSO2 is anywhere to be seen either. Not really Vita’s problem on that. :P

  • rekka_zan

…which means Danganronpa 1 sold well.
    Good job NISA :)

    • MrFinalgamer

i don´t know, the game just released a couple days ago. but i sure hope it did!

      • rekka_zan

I heard the LE sold out. Don’t know about the total numbers but I suppose that’s enough for them to greenlight the sequel.

        • Pdugna

Normal version also sold out like a few days before release on the NISA store site

  • Kayseur

I haven’t even played the first one yet, but I’m already psyched about this.

  • Gariya

The remixed version of the theme music is sick:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7rZmE8nhpE

Also, I would never have thought for westerners to catch up to the Danganronpa series this quick. Glad that DR1 sold well.

    • Pdugna

DR1 soldout on LE and Regular editons the NISA store site which is a rarity.

      • Elvick

Wait, the standard sold out too? Wow, I’ve never seen that happen before!

        • icecoffemix

It’s kind of crazy for such niche game and they still haven’t restocked yet http://store.nisamerica.com/Games/Danganronpa-Trigger-Happy-Havoc-Standard-Edition

          • Elvick

It has been getting a lot of positive press though. Maybe that’s why?

Well, and the anime perhaps? FUNimation posted about the game when they announced a giveaway (for the LE).

            So maybe that helped too.

Good news, regardless of the reason!

    • AlteisenX

A lot of people probably heard about it through the anime too (as sad as that is in ways)

      • Gariya

That, and I have to thank orenronen from Something Awful for doing the LP that exposed Danganronpa to western internet community. Guy made this series’ popularity blew up to big enough proportions. It’s also thanks to him that I became a fan of this series.

        • TheBlackRabbit

Trust me it was a huge joint effort. All the way from youtube to FinestKO on twitch.

  • Elvick

    Great news! :D

Not unexpected with the VA slipping up, but still great to have confirmations over rumors.

  • Wolf Star

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HYPE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this game!!!!!!

  • GhostNomad

So I have to buy and finish Trigger Happy Havoc by fall. Well damn. Bring it on!

    • TheBlackRabbit

I beat it already. You can do it GhostNomad!

      • GhostNomad

        Is it that short? O.o

Alternatively, did you perhaps play the Japanese version which came out last October? >.>

        • Wolf Star

I’m still playing the game. it’s longer than I imagined. I’ve played it for 3 days now and it’s still amazing so far :) I love it!! Why it’s taking me longer because I’m busy with other things but this weekend I’ll finish it :)

          • DarkLegacy

I get mine on Wednesday so I should be having fun with it. Can’t wait ^^

            • Wolf Star

Yaaaay :D can’t wait for you to play it ^_^

              • DarkLegacy

                Same here ^^

                • Wolf Star

                  :D

        • TheBlackRabbit

Eng patch for me friend. I will buy to support what i have stolen from though, :D

          • GhostNomad

YOU THIEF. HAVE YOU NO SHAME?! >8[

            • TheBlackRabbit

I do which is why i bought it today!

        • flashmozzg

It took me ~30 hours to complete main story. School life mode may take atleast another 10-15 hours.

          • GhostNomad

Good to hear. 999 and VLR both took me around 30-40 hours (each) to get through so that’s roughly the length I’d expect out of this.

    • DarkLegacy

Good luck finishing it. You can do it!! :D

  • artemisthemp

Good to see NISA releasing VN if, just they would release Date a Live or Special Report Division

  • Hatsuaki

    This is wonderful news!

  • Gabriel Pereira Pinto

    DUAL AUDIO, YEEEEES

  • Rin-Coconut

    Japanese voices always a plus
I haven’t played the first one yet but it’s good to know there will be a sequel for me to get after I get the first one and beat it
