Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry

Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry, the single-player downloadable expansion to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, is coming as a digital standalone release to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on February 18, and PC on February 25 for $14.99, Ubisoft announced.

Here’s the story rundown:

Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry tells the story of Adewale, a man born into slavery. Once a pirate and now a trained Assassin, Adewale is shipwrecked in 18th-century Haiti, home to the most brutal slavery in the West Indies. In an effort to get back to the sea, Adewale assists the locals in exchange for a crew and a ship. The more he fights for freedom from slavery, however, the more he is drawn into the Maroon slave community, forcing him to face his vicious past. In the game, Adewale will take his new crew and set of weapons, including a machete and a blunderbuss, to assassinate enemies and free slaves, delivering merciless justice in plantations and cities alike. No stranger to the sea, Adewale will command a fearsome brig to take down slave owners in the Caribbean.

“We decided to release Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry as a stand-alone game for both fans and newcomers to the Assassin’s Creed universe,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed: Freedom Cry delivers key elements of an Assassin’s Creed game, including a new hero, new environments and new weapons.”

  • DesmaX

    … Kinda disappointed with this.

After Blood Dragon, I woud’ve hoped that they would be more creative with this

  • Elvick

So, kind of like inFamous: Festival of Blood then.

  • Dokuro

Way better than the actual game.

If you are saying the exact same gameplay in a slightly more clichéd storyline with the only real improvements is a better lead and his purpose as a whole better than Black Flag, then sure..???

      • Dokuro

IDC if you agree with me or not, to me thats better in any sense, I would change the silly AC BF story for this one any day.

  • OverlordZetta

Still no new Vita game? C’mon guys.

After Liberation? I actually hope they take their time and make the next one much more worthwhile, and less buggy and glitchy.

Still, whatever happened to the supposed AC “Phoenix Rising” from a while back?

      • crimsonidol

That was just a rumour but Ubisoft implemented the logo (or something similar) into Black Flag as an easter egg

    • Elvick

It’s never going to happen. If they do actually make another, then I’ll be surprised.

It’s going to tank. It’ll sell to PS Vita owners who liked playing Liberation on there and who don’t care about waiting a year for the HD port that will happen.

They’ve set up any future AC on Vita to failure with Liberation HD.

Sidenote; it’s sad that Liberation only got it’s own identity with the HD port. It should never have had a “3” on it.

edit; lol, downvote me all you want peeps. It’s true. Most people would rather have the ‘best’ version of something for cheaper, rather than buy an inferior handheld version. And the way liberation was handled, it would be inferior on Vita. Western preferences don’t lend to a success of another AC, not when Ubisoft has proven they’ll take that game elsewhere in a year’s time.

Wait a year, get it for $20 instead of $40 and it’ll be better.

      • OverlordZetta

Is it that hard to believe people would rather play on a handheld than a console?

        • Elvick

Is it hard to realize the reality that western gamers mostly prefer consoles to handhelds?

I’m one of the people that does prefer playing games on Vita, rather than PS3.

What a pointless reply to make to me.

          • icecoffemix

This seems to be true, 3DS western publisher support also completely dried up sans some kid friendly game like Disney.

    • True Gamer

This is off topic but I like that pic you have as your profile.

  • True Gamer

    Damn that was epic

  • Souter

Hope they add more stuff to do the add-on was super short.. And of you already played the add-on would it be remove from the AC4 trophy list and add to it’s own one??

  • Budgiecat

I wonder what would have happened if they showed this trailer at the Super Bowl….
