Namco Bandai has released the first batch of images for Tales of Zestiria.

You’ll see the game’s two protagonists, Sorey and Alisha, as well as shots of the game’s open fields, battles, and various areas of the world.

      Depends on how many characters there are and how much longer the game is from release. Stuff like that is usually released on average about a character a month (or 2 a month if there are a lot), and if there are only 6 characters like there were in Xillia we could be waiting a while before infos like that start to be released :(

        Out of playable characters to show? They can always throw in a key villain character to fill a spot.

          True, but I still dont see them starting the hype train until around May or June (around the start of Tales Fest), as I dont see the game dropping until the end of the year at the earliest in Japan. I’m still of the mind that it’ll release in all three territories next year.

              Yeah, but worldwide release does not equal a simultaneous release. It’ll probably drop early next winter in Japan and hit the west sometime in the fall.

                Well,here is what I think.They will reveal a caracter each month,till either april or june…totalling 6-8 playble caracters

                then they will announce the release date in may 31-june 1…and by december 2014 and january 2015 they will release the game there.And hopefully by mid 2015 we get this game.

                it looks like they are going full speed ahead with this game…so I don’t think it is gonna take too much time further….I think we will get it faster then we think.

                  But if they release all the characters by Tales Fest in June, what info will they have leading up to its release for the next 6-8 months after June until its actual release?

                    Well,antagonists,major npcs,gameplay details…maybe MORE playable caracters…some are speculating that this game has 12 playable caracters,since in xillia each of the two artists made 3 caracters…and this time there are four of them.If that were the case,then they could keep up the charade till octuber.

                    Honestly,I expect only 8 caracters.I think 12 would be messy…but it is the 20th anniversary…and I think they could succeed.This is unprecedented,4 artists.Well,it would be tales of symphonia and it’s sqeuel,tales of xillia 2 (and vesperia PS3) all over again,lol.That all had more then 6,some more then 8.

                    Xillia 2 tecnically had 11 caracters,since Ludger had three styles.Tales of symphonia dawn of the new world had 10 playable caracters(there was a catch though with the original 8)…and monsters.
                    vesperia PS3 had 9.

                      Ahh true, but I honestly cant see the game having 12 main characters (however awesome that would be) just because of the costs that would be associated with that. 12 characters means 12 seiyuu’s to hire in addition to 12 different playstyles to program.

                      well,xillia 2 had 9 caracters,tecnically ten,with Elle…with one of them having 3 styles.

                      Besides,if this game is heavily inspired on graces,it is easier,I suppose, to make different syles,as long as they don’t screw with the aerial combat…and remember to split up magic well.

                      Besides,this is the 20th aniversary,they could and should be as ambitious as possible,to make the best game possible…and cautious enough not to screw it.

                      Well,this is just hypothesis,though.We need to wait till May to see if this game will have 6 caracters or not.If they announce on may,then it will continue..
                      If they are gonna announce caracters like in xillia,they will start now in january and go till april,if they are 6…till june if they are 8 or… till octuber if they are 12.

                      well,they made skits with ten..eleven caracters in dawn of the new world…just have to make a spot for 2 more,lol.

            Now that’s optimistic. This probably won’t reach the west until closer to 2016 knowing Bamco and how they handle localizations.

              They’ve gotten better. Plus, they werent always like they were with Graces/Xillia. Vesperia was nearly released at the same time, and Legendia, Symphonia, Symphonia HD, and Abyss were all released mere months after their Japanese release. The only releases that have seen significant delays in their localizations have been Graces, Xillia, and Xillia 2.

              And even then, they’ve been doing well, Graces is what really threw the release schedule off kilter, as it released 2 years after its release in Japan. Xillia and Xillia 2 both respectively release a year after. I mean, you cant expect them to release two major entries of a franchise in a single year to catch up can you?

    The whole scenery is very sharp and vibrant, all very nice and pretty to look at. I would still appreciate some AA though. By the way, here’s hoping that they won’t sacrifice the 60fps just for the sake of turning the gameplay into something like FFXII where you fight enemies as they appear on the field…

      Looks like they’re indeed sacrificing that and sharper graphics for a much bigger traversable open world with the possibility of no battle transitions..

    Every time I look at this game I remember of Radiata Stories, I don’t know why…

    Damn, tales games never disappoints me!

          Indeed, I really think Xenoblade’s gameplay would transition extremely well into a Tales game.

          Personally, I’m more hyped about this installment than I have been for any previous one. Mainly due to all the things that will potentially be done with it.

            Not sure why you picked Xenoblade as an example though…a closer example would have been Rogue Galaxy…

              Looking at Zestiria in action make me think more of Xenoblade.

              If I need further justification for my pick; it’s because I prefer Xenoblade and would rather see a Tales game emulate that.

                Rogue is closer because you have more freedom of switching characters and the action isn’t timed delay; so it’s not about what you prefer, its about which of the two is actually closer to the Tales series style of combat and without a doubt Rogue Galaxy is closer….

                  I understand where you’re coming from. I’m not disagreeing about Rogue Galaxy’s combat being closer to Tales than Xenoblade’s.

                  I’m simply stating which of the two I would prefer being emulated, that’s all.

                    er okay but just understand that would totally destroy what Tales has known to become and liked for in terms of its gameplay style. It’d no longer have any semblance of a Tales game..

    Looking great!
    I hope there will be more visual effects like fallen leaves or something in this game.
    And it would be awesome if they could make an airship exploration with these open fields system.

    In that first picture, I like the way the kid’s cape thingy flows….that’s all I have to say, else I’d cry about how much I want to get my hands on this game like now.

    Well,they mentioned only a continent by name,so I think they are smoke screening another continent,possibly.Wonder what the catch will be… since sky and clouds are always being mentioned,could it be a flying continent?

    The scenery looks nice, just wish they used the cell shaded look that was in Vesperia for the character models.

      I definitely agree, world does look beautiful and rich. I can feel the call fro adventure through the ruins and landscapes. Just need to see how the battle system will work out now.

    I hope this one is fully open world, and isn’t copy pasted like Xillia ^_^. My only complaint with Xillia was the copy paste, but more tales <333
