How Sucker Punch is bringing Seattle to life in-game.

inFAMOUS: Second Son

Sucker Punch has released a new developer diary for inFAMOUS: Second Son chronicling the recreation of Seattle in the upcoming PlayStation 4 game.

“Our goal was to create an urban playground for the player as they experience Delsin’s amazing superhuman powers, so it was paramount that we capture the essence of the city,” art director Horia Dociu said on the PlayStation Blog.

“We wanted to give the player the feeling of walking down an alleyway and seeing the rain accumulate between the cobblestones, and the reflections of the rain-streaked, brick buildings and neon market signs. Or the feeling of looking up at the sun as it breaks through the clouds, sending rays of light through enormous pine trees.”

The city, which users will experience in “true 1080p,” also plays a key role in the game’s story. The ity is under martial law, and the presence of a police state is visible on every street, Dociu said.

“We licensed real local businesses to lend a credible feeling of being in Seattle, so as you recognize these well-known sites being suffocated by the DUP’s tactical gear, you get the idea that this nightmarish scenario could actually happen. Icons like The Space Needle, the monorail, and even local quirks like the ‘gum wall,’ gives Second Son the feeling of a living, breathing city that needs Delsin to set it free.”

Watch the developer diary below. inFAMOUS: Second Son is due out for PlayStation 4 on March 21.

Would be a sin to tell if this game is doubtful?

I’m the same as you. Looks promising but I’m still on the edge. They haven’t shown much of the game besides the stuff from E3 and the neon power.

      • Invisbin

Well they said they aren’t releasing anymore info on new powers :(

No, not at all. I think that as players and final consumers, we can afford the luxury of being hyped as much as we want. A significant part of the gaming business rotates around this feeling and its enforcement.

Being cautious is part of this game between us and the creators, because no matter how splendid a game can appear (and the advertisement agencies are becoming increasingly efficient in this respect), there’s always room for letdowns.

What about Second Son, then? I’m quite optimistic about the game, because Sucker Punch is not really threading new grounds there, they are just refining and enriching something they were already able to do at the highest levels.

One can be cautious while at the same time, leveraging what he knows about his upcoming favourite product to enforce his opinion, and further justify a purchase intent :)

There’s probably not going to be any downtime gameplay to this; strictly focus on missions n stuff, which might lead it to being held as repetitive…

  • shogunknight

Its the little details that matter, looking forward to it

Nice to more varied stuff. For a second I thought the place in the game looked kinda boring, devoid of life. This has changed my mind :)

  • MrRobbyM

It’s certainly pretty. Though, I think I’ll wait for reviews. I’m not sold on the game just yet and I’m growing rather tired of hearing Troy Baker..

No disrespect though. Just overly used.

I see where you’re coming but I feel the same could be same about other voice actors such as Yuri Lowenthal, Laura Bailey, Johnny Yong Bosch, ect. But they all had their times where you heard them everywhere. But Troy Baker is only now getting these huge roles.

I think Troy is just getting the spotlight he always deserved. He’s a been around for a pretty long time but he’s only been booking major roles until recently. With the way he handles his roles I feel he deserves the attention he gets and I’m happy when he voices new characters. He’s great at what he does.
