Plus, Yoshida wants The Last Remnant on PS4.

Final Fantasy XIV for PS4

The PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will launch on April 14, Square Enix announced.

The date was announced by producer and director Naoki Yoshida during today’s Letter from the Producer LIVE. Considering Final Fantasy XIV operates on a simultaneous schedule worldwide, we’re assuming this is a global release date.

A collector’s edition will also be available, which includes the in-game items Helm of Light, Baby Behemoth Minion, Coeurl Mount, Behemoth Barding, Wind-up Moogle, and Fat Chocobo Mount.

A beta will begin on February 22.

In related news, during today’s live stream a fan asked Yoshida if there are any plans to release The Last Remnant on PlayStation 4, or to create a sequel. It was unrelated, but Yoshida nonetheless answered, “If I receive enough requests… (hint hint) It’s one of my favorite titles so I would like to if I’m given the opportunity.”

    Make it so Yoshida!!

I was planning on going back, to get a copy of Last Remnant on 360. I’ll wait for the news.

I would like a printed strategy guide for FF XIV, this go.

I dont really like that game. In fact I think it sucks. I dont know why people ask for it so much. Horrible idea they had on using Unreal Engine for it when it was obvious they had no idea what they were doing with it.

      • LastBoss

Played a little bit, and thought it was ok, but there was 3 characters I really liked in it. I like the battle morale combat. I think this game struck a cord, more so with Japanese audience.

        • Budgiecat

I think maybe they just feel slighted that they didnt get it for the PS3 seeing as how so few own a 360 in Japan.
But then they never seem to ask for Infinite Undiscovery or Project Slypheed

          Hated those games too btw

          • LastBoss

Sylpheed SEGA CD, is the best one.

          • Anime10121

Because the other two are pretty much crap games…

TLR would have been SO much better had it played more like its PC version. I dont have a “gaming” PC so I could never get the best version, but I’ve seen it played…

    • adhesive

You’re better off playing the PC version. The 360 version is much more broken from what I’ve heard.

  • Chestnut Bowl

“The Last Remnant?” Get that shit out of here! Who even asked that?

I’m looking forward to seeing how XIV looks on the PS4. I’m still waiting for those graphical upgrades that were hinted at towards the PC. Hopefully, those plans weren’t scrapped.

    • new_tradition

Allegedly it’s consistently made the Top 10 Most Wanted List in Famitsu or some other magazine. The game came out years ago, so to still be be wanted (again, allegedly) for a Sony, I guess some people really want it xD

      • Anime10121

I do… I played it on 360, but it played like crap, if it can run the way its supposed to on PS4, I’d DEFINITELY double dip.

  • Samsara09

SE should keep on focusing on XV,enough with the teasing,I believe.

    • Pyrofrost

Yeah, because OG FFXIV really showed us that testing and being prepared for release is of zero importance.

They need to conduct a beta to assure the stability of the PS4 version’s release to the market. It’s not like Final Fantasy XV’s resources are being poured into this. There are entirely different teams involved here.

  • Bobby Jennings

I liked the last remnant. I’d much rather have XV though.

  • PrinceHeir

oh yes please The Last Remnant 1 and 2 ala White Knight Chronicles 1 & 2 please!!!!!

  • new_tradition

Years ago I was really excited about The Last Remnant, but then it never came out for PS3. I don’t want to invest in a new PC just for one game, though I still think about getting a 360 for it and a few exclusives.

That said, I’ve seen some walkthroughs of the game and the narrative has a few inconsistencies, so it would be nice if they added some new scenes and what not. Make some definitive version for Xbone and PS4 like they are for Tomb Raider or something even…

For FFXIV, I remember they said if you own the PS3 version you can upgrade to the PS4 version for free (rendering the PS3 version useless though). I kind of wanna do that before I renew my sub *ponders*

  • AnimusVox

I like that cover art; dat Minfilia *U*

  • Zackasaur

I have been waiting ages to finally play FFXIV: ARR! I played the beta on PS3, but I want to buy the game physically on PS4.

I have The Last Remnant for PC (I own a 360, but I dislike the heat/noise associated with playing it), but I don’t like sitting down at a PC for this kind of game… I could finally get around to playing it if they would make a PS4 version. Yes, please!

  • Zero

I need to get a PS4 just for XIV. The PS3 version has so many lag issues that annoy me.

    • Luna Kazemaru

      you forgot rendering issues to

      • Zero

I tried to focus on one issue for the PS3 version. I could easily point out others. xD

        • MogCakes

Worst issue is loading times, I’ve often been locked out of bosses because of it.

          • Zero

Yeah. It’s pretty bad at times. Especially when you try to speed run stuff, like daily main scenario.

    • 武神水樹

The global cooldown doesn’t bother you? Makes tanking as a paladin frustrating.

      Why I quit

      • Luna Kazemaru

the cooldown is like that so its not a spam fest and you actually have to think

        • 武神水樹

          Have you tanked Ifrit?

          • Luna Kazemaru

Yes I’ve tanked him and I’ve been an interrupt tank for him what are you trying to say?

      • Zero

You get more cooldowns to use as you level, including Hallowed Ground.

I think you get used to it. It’s actually still pretty fast paced for MMO combat.

I can understand where it might bother others. I’d suggest trying some other jobs, the CD has a different feel based upon what role you are currently playing.

        • 武神水樹

I actually just tank in MMOs, the attacks I don’t have issues with it’s not having an on command stun for fights like ifrit that can wipe the raid if your stun goes on gcd because you’re trying to hold aggro

          • Zero

It kinda depends on the situation. They actually changed stuns a bit. After 2 or 3 the monster resists all stuns for a small amount of time.

If you are MT on Ifrit, you shouldn’t be expected to be main stun though.

            • 武神水樹

One thing i noticed about this game is I’m not used to it’s play speed, it’s slow but some say it’s fine. Seeing someone stand still because their actions are on gcd isn’t for me

              • Zero

Most jobs should never be standing still. The Gcd has you wait for some stuff, but each job has a rhythm and things you do to fill the void between the cool downs.

Obviously, tank is a bit different, because — You want to burn cooldowns based on what the mobs do, your HP, status of healers, etc.

A good DPS is always doing something, a Good healer is not just standing around, and a good Tank doesn’t just burn all cool downs and spam stuff without a strategy.

It really starts to play more strategic end game, and movement/dodging attacks is a big thing.

Have you tried anything else? You might find that you enjoy other jobs? I really like BLM myself.

                • 武神水樹

Nah I actually was playing summoner, scholar and paladin as my main three

I enjoyed the game just end game for the rng moments wasn’t my thing

  • Anime10121

Think I’ll buy the PS4 version just to have the game in my collection… I’ll play it for the free month (as I did XI) and see if I’m interested enough to pay for my first MMO. I liked the beta, but considering I have FAR less time to actually game than I used to, its hard to justify paying m-to-m for a game when I’ll likely only be able to play it a few days out of the month (and even then, splitting time between regular games too).

On Last Remnant on PS4 though… this MUST happen, as even glitched to hell and back, I enjoyed it on 360, and I also LOVED the music. If we can get the game running as good as it does on a PC, on console, I’d gladly rebuy it for 60 bucks!

    • icecoffemix

Get a Vita (if you haven’t). Play it with remote play. :P

      • Anime10121

I have a Vita, but even when I’m away from home, I rarely have enough time to sit and play an RPG (Rpg’s arent really something you can play in 5-10 minute intervals…

Plus, I’d have to be somewhere where there’s a stable wifi network, and I wouldnt be able to leave that area. PS4/Vita Remote Play is nice, but honestly, I think its more for a Wii U like experience where someones hogging the TV and you can utilize remote play to continue on. I mean its DEFINITELY a plus that you can use it anywhere with Wifi, vs just in your own home, but the fact that you cant really “go” anywhere outside of a Wifi “zone” kinda kills the portability nature…

        • icecoffemix

People have been using RP with phone data connection via tethering actually (assuming you live in area where the network infrastructure for this is possible). I’ve read pretty amazing thing like playing AC4 during ride home on cab or 1000 miles away from home.

          • Anime10121

Hm… I’ll look into it, but even still, ESPECIALLY for rpg’s, I like to play them at home where I can get the full experience vs. playing them on the go, and for an MMO especially, I’d think you’d have to devote more attention to it than a standard game (because of partying and the like), and my city’s not the kind of place where you want to lose yourself in a game…

            • icecoffemix

Actually I think RP is perfect for RPG, especially when you need to grind. But yeah, I don’t typically play seriously outside but it’s nice to have the option.

              • Anime10121

Now that I can agree on, having the option is great :D

  • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Glad i got this when it was on sale for PSN Now i can get the PS4 version for free.

  • ayb_91

My birthday! Oh wait, I’m not interested.

  • Elvick

I’d buy The Last Remnant on PS4. I’d still buy it on PS3 if that ever, for whatever reason, happened. Much like how I’d buy the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia without question if it were localized.

Glad there’ll be a LE for PS4. Is it all the same stuff? I can’t remember exactly what was in the PS3 LE.

  • XXX

Tried the PC version at a friends place, not bad. But not worth paying a monthly fee.

Also, I can’t believe people are still hoping that SE will release Last Remnant on PS3 and now PS4. I think people who wanted play must have already done so.

    • Elvick

@second paragraph – Obviously not. Otherwise there wouldn’t be people still hoping for SE to release Last Remnant on PlayStation.

      • XXX

Well, I have to admire your dedication. After all these years, you still haven’t given up hope.

    • Anime10121

I’ve played/owned it on 360, but it would be nice to play a console version that plays like it actually was supposed too…

    • Keegs79

It was on Japan’s most wanted list for many months. I haven’t seen their most wanted list in a long time but I was shocked how long the game remained on the list.

  • 罪罰

They could fix The Last Remnant, combat system is really fun and engaging.

    • Ash_Riot

They did though. It’s the PC version.

  • bloodiOS

The Last Remnant, huh? Well, if they decide to port that game over to the PS4 (and XBO), I would hope that they optimize it so that it would effectively utilize the six remaining CPU cores and the abundant amount of RAM. I don’t think that they need to do anything to the graphics, just focus on properly optimizing the game. Of course, it would be great if they add eye-candies like motion blur, HBAO, and Bokeh DoF.

  • artemisthemp

So I will have to wait until April 14 to play FFXIV on PS4
