See how Ratbag came to be, and how you can take control of your enemies.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Warner Bros. has released an eight minute gameplay walkthrough of Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, its upcoming RPG for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The walkthrough is set several hours into the game and focuses on the nemesis system, a “next-gen living world which creates unique personal enemies on every playthrough.” In this case, you’ll follow Talion on a mission to kill the Uruk war chief warthog.

Watch the walkthrough below.

Assassin’s Creed V: Mordor is looking pretty good! :P

  • Budgiecat

It’ll be nice when we finally move past the cross gen title phase…

    • Alkhan

      2015 I hope

      • Budgiecat

I dunno…I just checked the first early games that came to mind, which ironically is one of the first Japanese PS4 releases (Dynasty Warriors), and DW6 came out in 2008 for PS2/PS3 and DW Gundam 2 came out in 2009 for PS2/PS3 so that was 3 years after PS3 launch so yeah..might end up being …2017

        • Alkhan

Western cross gen titles will likely fade out in 2015

Japanese cross gen titles will go on until like 2018

Japan can’t seem to move forward and jump on new generations immediately anymore.

Any more…? They’ve never been known for that to begin with.

The install base is already there, I don’t blame them

    Looks Beast!

Even if it’s a reskinned AC game, it looks surprisingly well done and the gameplay looks much more fun than anything Ubisoft can even dream of.

    • $1392518

I hope the AC team takes a good look at this and tries to improve the series, unless the next game is too late into development for that Fall 2014 release

  • Aiddon

interesting; the nemesis system does seem neat

  • Alkhan

    This looks really good!

I don’t know why it’s being called an Assassin’s Creed clone though, they only have like 2-3 things in common and Assassin’s Creed is boring as hell.

    • $1392518

Third person stealth action with climbing and free form combat (+ wraithwalking, a even better eagle vision) in a setting unexplored in video games screams Assassin’s Creed even if you want it to or not.

This one though, seems to be the stealth action game AC wanted to be with ubisoft ignorant enough to think that AC is good as is..

      • Alkhan

        -unnatural colored hair
        -teenage protagonists
-saving the world with fellow teenagers (maybe add an older person and a talking animal for good measure)
-some form of turn based combat
-one (or both) missing or dead parent
-wielding a sword no matter how advanced the technology of the setting world is.

I guess all SNES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, NGC, and GBA JRPGs are just clones of each other as well seeing as they have more in common than Middle Earth with Assassin’s Creed.

        • $1392518

Uh. I”m not sure if I am suppose to take that sarcasticly or as solid criticism of some of most uninspired Jrpgs to grace the planet.

What is important that even if a handful of games at their cores are the same type with some.. shameless similarity others in the genre, they can be different enough and remarkable enough to stand out.

Sure it can be agrued that Shadows of Mordor plays more like Dishonored or Thief, but it does similar to every other open world stealth action game dominated by the ACs and Batmans.

Unfortunately it lacks something that I cant draw it to the likes of Metal Gear or Splinter cell if you were wondering..

The animations and movement style look like they have been lifted directly, code for code, from the skeleton of an Assasin’s Creed character. It isn’t just a slight resemblance we are talking about here; it looks almost like they stole the code and re-skinned it.

    woah where this come from
    this looks awesome

  • Gariya

I thought it would be another boring brown grey WRPG shit, but this actually looks cool.

    Dark game

  • nyobzoo

Now that’s what I’m Tolkien about

  • Crossbones (Prodigy-X)

    The game looks epic!!!

  • MrKappa

    Is that Troy Baker… again?

  • Abdellatif Nabil Kalooti

    Nice game!

  • Invisbin

    This looks better than AC.

  • HighBrowDrifter

    Oh wow
    such intriguing mechanics
    much potential
    very “mmyyy ppprrecioouss”…..

In all seriousness…..this Lord of the Rings spin-off has a lot going for it self. I still hold Asscreed for an excellent franchise despite its somewhat lackluster presentation last gen…..but…..this could give AC some competition (imo)

I never heard of this game before, but it looks really fun. The narrator going on about all the different possible things to do makes it seem like the game should have a lot of replay value.

I’m just not 100% understanding how Talion can spread his influence/control to a bunch of people. I thought through Ratbag he could order those minions because they would think they’re following Ratbags orders, but it seems like Talion can use actual relationships between people as a tangible connection to control who the heck he wants O_O

  • Elvick

    Looks pretty awesome.

I wish Platinum Games would make an action RPG with Bayonetta combat. Would be glorious.

  • Tetsu

For someone who hasn’t been interested enough to purchase a previous LoTR game, and who doesn’t like Assassin’s Creed, I sure am interested in this. Which is cool.
