Over 83 million hours of games, TV, and apps logged.

Xbox One sales have topped two million units worldwide, Microsoft announced. The console launched November 22 in 13 markets.

According to stats from Major Nelson’s blog, users have logged over 83 million hours of games, TV, and apps, unlocked 39 million Xbox One achievements, and achieved 595 million total Gamerscore since the console’s launch. And “at peak demand,” customers were ordering the platform at over 1,000 units per minute on Amazon.com.

I wonder what the numbers for its competition is at now, for comparison.

  • $83030187

Glad to see both new consoles are preforming well. Competition is good and all that jazz.

    • captainhowdy

In a Captain Picards voice: “Agreed. The future of gaming seems bright with people like you”.

      • $83030187

With the DRM issues gone, there is no reason people shouldn’t want the Xbone to be a successful machine.

People who enjoy games should be hoping that all gaming platforms flourish.

        • captainhowdy

I agree. Both companies have definitely helped take console gaming to the next level. Next year I’m getting both.

          • $83030187

I can only hope my financial situation improves (I get a damn job) so I can do the same.

Though, I could picture myself getting one next fall and the other early 2015.

            • captainhowdy

Good luck on the job hunt. It’s hard nowadays, unless your my second oldest sister. Her new job she gets makes over $250,000 a year ha-ha.

        • $18114340

Well, aside from a number of Microsoft’s arguably disagreeable policies. The most notable ones being with regard to independent self-publishing, etc., as well as their current trend of shoehorning microtransactions into their full-price retail games. Although I suppose Sony does that too, so it’s more of a generational problem than a Microsoft one.

This is going to sound weird, but I really want Microsoft to succeed with the Xbox One. Just not with the way they are right now.

          • $83030187

When it comes to things like micro-transactions and other shitty little dealings like that, it is definitely an issue with the AAA industry overall, not just Microsoft.

Hopefully gamers will rise up and call them out for that shit, just like MS’s DRM, but we’ll have to wait and see.

As for the Xbone’s other shortcomings, hopefully the massive success that the PS4 has been so far will keep MS on their toes and force them to adapt and change bad policies.

        • DarthNemesis

The DRM was not even the biggest issue with the X1. Kinect is still a gimmick forced on consumers, the console is too expensive with the best thing about it being voice commands and tv apps, and it still lacks exclusive games. I expect all the fanboys to buy it early, but the demand for the X1 is not going to be very high as time goes on. I enjoy gaming, but nothing on the X1 is interesting that I can not get on PS4 or PC. The fact of the matter is that the Xbox is generic with MS only pushing DLC for third party games.

          • $83030187

The generation just started. There is no knowing what the Xbone will get in the future.

I agree with Kinect though. That shit was a waste of money and resources. It should have been dropped in favor of undercutting the PS4’s price from the get-go.

          • MrRobbyM

Kinect isn’t a totally bad idea. But for gaming, it’s practically useless.

I know Microsoft had a lot of faith in it and hope that more devs would make games that used it but it just doesn’t work that well. Even if it did, it’s just too gimmicky to catch on.

Too bad it drove up the price of the XOne by 100 bucks. They would have sold more if they at least had a unit that didn’t come with it. Which I expect them to in the future.

            • $83030187

The thought of walking into a room and telling your device to turn on, or to turn up or down the volume while playing a game is pretty damn appealing.

Flailing around to play a game is not.

              • MrRobbyM

Yeah, that’s what I mean. It would be much more useful if it worked correctly.

              • Budgiecat

Yeah look how well The Clapper took on…

                oh wait..

  • shogunknight

These two consoles are on a roll. But 1000 orders per minute?? Statistically means 1.4 million X1s in a day……not an accurate analysis i must say

    • Joshua Rodgers

“At peak demand” so basically when they were available it would take 1000 people 1 minute to click buy. Not really a decent fact, but interesting none the less.

  • captainhowdy

That’s insane. Good for Microsoft and Sony, I can’t wait for the exclusive of both consoles next year :-D .

  • Invisbin

Then the PS4 must be bustlin. My goodness this is good news.

    • Blaz

Sony always hides when they are failing, so it’s not a good sing for sony.

      • $18114340

And what, pray tell, is Sony hiding? Their sales numbers (the ones they’ve bothered to publish) have been similarly bombastic — I don’t really see any possibility of Sony “failing” right now. Not doing as well as they could? Well, of course…

        • $83030187

Sony does tend to hide or butter up information when things turn south.

          Playstation family, anyone?

Of course, they haven’t done that since things started to turn around, and I hope they don’t have to.

Unless, you know, they mess things up and deserve it.

          • captainhowdy

Yeah. Let’s hope Sony doesn’t go back to old Sony. I didn’t like that person. He was mean and always made me pay for things.

            • $83030187

Now he is just making you pay to play online.

              • captainhowdy

Yeah, I know. The douche bag.

      • Invisbin

But…Sony hit two mill the week after is launch in Europe….so…

      • shogunknight
      • captainhowdy

Come on man. Stop the fanboyism. That comment made no sense.

        • Blaz

Huh, yeah, because i don’t like sony right?
          Stop the implication.

          • captainhowdy

Actually, I’m one of the most vocal members about fanboys of any console. Maybe you should have worded it better? But that came off to fanboyish.

  • MrRobbyM

and the PS4 hasn’t even launched in Japan yet

    • $83030187

      Will Japan even care?

      • $18114340

With the current lineup, I kind of doubt it… it’s clear that Japan is not too keen on moving to this gen. Sometimes I find it hard to blame them, but if anything Sony’s dedicated fanbase is probably going to reflect better on the home team than it is on the Xbox in the same territory later down the line. But that’s just my guess.

        • $83030187

I see the PS3 sticking around for a long time in Japan. Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III will definitely move some PS4s, but the question is how many.

I think the grip that mobile devices and dedicated handhelds has on Japan is too strong for another console to break out like the PS2 did.

          • shogunknight

Japan has always been more handheld centric than console, but look at today. Two consoles, $500 and $400 selling 2 million units in less than a month (in US and Europe), in the same period mobile analysts and journalists with comments stating the death of consoles. I wont be too quick to judge the outcome of the PS4 specifically in japan, WiiU has made a good bump in sales of recent. It may not move as much units as the PS2 or even PS3 but its sales outcome on the long run will be just as good. Final fantasy XV and KH3 is not only what would sell it in japan anyway and those two games arent only the japanese game sellers

            • $83030187

I just can’t see developers leaving the 3DS and Vita to run back to console development, where they have to compete with the likes of EA, Ubisoft and other AAA developers and their massive, bloated budgets.

It’s pretty safe of assume that those who make games now for the PS3 will move on to PS4, but I don’t see the glorious return of Japanese console gaming.

But holy shit would I love to be wrong.

              • shogunknight

Of course they wont, not only is the 3ds/Vita easier to develop on, they also have quite a large user base. One thing i know from gaming is that not all good, great or spectacular games are AAA or have to be and the more you try to compete with those companies the more you get burned. As a japanese company, safe option should be by releasing on all playstation platforms for example and when the numbers are to their satisfaction, they release exclusive or major titles. Atlus, NIS, SEGA, Capcom, GungHo, NamcoBandai, TecmoKoei, Vanillaware, with other Indie devs among others are releasing games on the PS3/360 still even though other AAA companies are getting millions by just making FPS or recycling games. Heres hoping the indie games would enhance diversity in gaming

Lolwut? Since when does EA and Ubisoft control Japan? They’re not a threat, lol. I mean, sure… Their games sell in Japan, but they don’t monopolize the console market by any means.

They have a bigger grasp on the West with games like Battlefield and Assassin’s Creed, but those aren’t exactly household names in Japan. So yeah, that certainly isn’t the reason why Japan is sticking with the handheld market.

They realize more people are on the go and out with their friends as opposed to staying at home to play a console. The people that are staying home in Japan are usually guys sitting in front of their computer instead, placing PC games like a NEET, lol. There are people who play home consoles, obviously, but… Just judging from what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard from my friends overseas, gaming is more focused outside of the home (see: handhelds, arcades, manga cafe, etc.).

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Are you kidding? Ryu ga Gotoku: Ishin comes out the same day the PS4 does in Japan (and Japan loves RGG). The beta test for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will also be taking place for PS4 (for Japan anyway). Don’t even get me started on Knack.

I may not like the looks of Knack, but I’d be willing to bet that Japan is going to jump on that game faster than a fat guy on cake. It really looks like something they would play.

          • $83030187

But Ishin is also a PS3 game. I can’t see many people buying a PS4 for something they can play on their current console.

Final Fantasy XIV is also already on PS3.

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Yes, yes it is. However, Ishin will help push out hardware sales for people looking for a launch title for their PS4. FFXIV is already on PS3, but the hardware difference is totally worth upgrading to PS4. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve become frustrated with this game on PS3 due to hardware limitations.

              • $83030187

Ah. I wasn’t aware there was much difference between the different versions of FFXIV.

                • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Oh yeah. As it stands, you can’t even really fight Odin or Behemoth properly on PS3. They have prioritized characters, effects (AOE spells especially) and their pets (fairies/summons) over the monster. So, you end up having 100+ people on a field at once trying to kill this monster and you can’t even see it most of the time, lol.

Plenty of people fail the quest because of this and they aren’t able to kill the enemy in time. I can only imagine how the 24 man dungeon(s) will run on PS3 if it already has this much of a problem.

      • MrRobbyM

Of course. Probably not much at first. But once Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and yadda yadda release, it definitely will.

  • Samsara09

sorry, but the PS3 did it two days earlier.Still, being the beta testers for the beginning of a gen is a grave mistake.I did it many times, but had enough…the consoles are just shitty expensive decorations or a door weight till they receive good games

It’s not really surprising that a site that leans heavily towards Japanese games would have very biased members.

          • LordKaiser

This happens on every website I visit. Even on rpgamer.com where I came from that is very quiet. I’m biased too but on JRPGs as a like the art style better than western.

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Actually, this plagues any site, honestly. The thing you have to remember is… There aren’t biased groups, there are just biased individuals. When you put those like minded individuals together, only then will you see a large difference of opinion one way or another.

Regardless of how much a site is dedicated towards a particular thing, there will still be plenty of people that will crop up which oppose said thing. It has been happening in every fandom since the beginning of time.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

The DRM stuff would have been bad, but honestly… It’s even worse that they left the devkit in the consoles for people to access and it’s the only way to activate backwards compatibility for 360 games. That’s just wrong on so many levels, in my opinion.

What about the consumers that aren’t even aware of how to access the devkit? They’ve got all these 360 games that they think they can’t even play all because Microsoft didn’t flip a switch before shipping out the consoles, expecting the consumer to just figure out the feature if they want backwards compatibility.

      • $83030187

That backwards compatibility stuff is fake. It’ll brick your console.

Oh wow, lol. I wonder if my friend really bricked his console then and was feeling too stupid to admit it. He basically linked me to this article about it, talking about the devkit you can access, then told me he was able to play his 360 games on his XBOX One now.

I’m going to have to talk with him about that later, lol. I wonder if anything like that has been found on PS4 though. I’d be curious to know since I plan on getting one soon.

          • $83030187

The Playstation 4 has no backwards compatibility. Sony is going to rely on the Gaikai streaming service launching next year to fill that role.

Which I can’t say I’m a fan of. I’d much rather pop a PS2 game into my PS4 than attempt to stream it with my shitty internet.

            • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

              I wasn’t talking about backwards compatibility X3

I knew that wasn’t part of it. They haven’t had that since the 20GB PS3. I was referring to being able to access the devkit features or whatever. You know… Without jailbreaking your PS4 that is.
