Become Garrett, the master thief.

Square Enix debuted the story trailer for Thief at VGX.

The game begins when Garrett, a master thief, returns to his hometown of The City to find it’s being ruled over by a tyrant who calls himself The Baron. As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict.

Watch the trailer below. The game is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on February 25 in North America and February 27 in Europe.

    I’ll be honest.

I thought that was pretty neat.

That was a pretty good trailer. Here’s to hoping it’ll still be good despite Eidos’s attempts to convince us otherwise.

What do you mean? This game has only ever looked great.

The mechanics that Eidos introduced to Thief contradict Garret’s nature. Cinematic takedowns make the game seem more Deus Ex, which isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s not the path that a stealth focused series should take. Also the “focus” abilities make him seem like a shoddy thief, and the general UI is just ugly and too handhold-y for its own good.

The focus mechanic is for casuals

          same as in:

          Hitman Absolution
          The Last of Us
          Metal Gear Solid V GZ/TPP
          Splinter Cell Blacklist/Conviction
          Ghost Recon Future Soldier
          Batman Arkham Series

Pre-ordered for PS4… At GameStop. Damn them.

Whatever this is might end up being a good game of some kind. But it won’t be a good Thief game. Stealth shouldn’t be an option. It should be the only option.

  • LordKaiser It all depends how someone plays it. Some people play stealth games like action games.
