Tidbits from Weekly Famitsu's latest interview.

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu features an interview with Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura, who shares new details on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts III.

Find the full summary below.

  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix is being handled by the same team at Osaka who did Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, but because the HD system has already been established, things are advancing more smoothly than Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix.
  • We can see when the release season will be, but we’re not at a stage where we can announce it yet.
  • Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded is not as long as Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, and because we’re making many main story assets from the start, we’re taking down the events of Disney Worlds in new representations. Speaking of which, we’re also adding new voices, and last week we compiled the voices for Wonderland.
  • We’re adding battle scenes and new scenarios as well—but just a little bit.
  • There are scenes from Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded tied to Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.
  • There is a sense to sum up the story leading to Kingdom Hearts III in the HD remasters, but please do not think Kingdom Hearts 3D isn’t necessary when talking about Kingdom Hearts III.
  • This is an place to consciously insert mysteries and bits that will pull you in. Episodes that were added to Kingdom Hearts Chi were only there because of conversations about Chirithy, but we added scenes where another Chirithy appears.
  • The guilt system was originally called Orb, but we changed that. The imagining of collecting of sins (guilt) from heartless is expanded.
  • That we’re writing the scenarios ourselves naturally becomes pre-established harmony, but as we come closer to the goal we feel less satisfied with this. That’s when we start groping for an answer to how to surprise ourselves.
  • You’ll be surprised by scenarios from Kingdom Hearts Chi, too. Of the episodes concerning the foreseers, events to come that are written in the prophesy will be revealed.
  • The final verse in the prophesy is a shock, and will connect with Kingdom Hearts III.
  • On top of the online characteristics, establishing the final story of Kingdom Hearts Chi has had its difficult parts, but we have a conclusion in mind. We’re thinking about an online component for Kingdom Hearts III, and although it would be nice to link things together well, we don’t yet know if we can.
  • We were happy at your excitement over the October trailer for Kingdom Hearts III, but from a development perspective it’s still not enough.
  • The Attraction Flow skill that compliments settings and enemies will be an especially unique technique in boss fights. We’ve advanced the Free Flow of Kingdom Hearts 3D, and this will be one axis in Kingdom Hearts III.
  • There will be amazing transformations for the keyblade, including a pistol. When the staff told me it becomes an [omitted], I burst out laughing.
  • From the ideas from the planning side, there will be some gimmicks used.
  • Kingdom Hearts III and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix are being worked on together by side by side by the Osaka team.
  • Nomura is now writing and re-writing Kingdom Hearts III scenarios.
  • We’re focusing on Final Fantasy XV development, and hope you can wait until we release further information.

Thanks, Sokuho@Hokanko.

so there’s a chance for Kingdom Hearts 3D HD? it is a necessary game for Kingdom Hearts III is it not?

btw what is Kingdom Hearts Chi??

looks like the game is progressing smoothly, such a shame it doesn’t have a Vita edition like FFX/FFX-2 HD.

maybe they’ll make a collection of 1.5+2.5 HD Remix on Vita if the series sells so well in the future?

    • Invisbin

Chi is the online mmo they made with Theatrhthyms art style. Card based gameplay I believe and I’m told it’s good.

      • PrinceHeir

        ohh that’s cool ^^

    • Elvick

Buy FFX|X-2 on Vita and hope that leads to more SE support for Vita.

I wouldn’t hold my breath, but it’s all we can really do. Not like they give us very many chances to show that they’d sell Vita to people and their games would sell on Vita.

I want portable KH1 more than life.

  • Crossbones (Prodigy-X)

“We’re focusing on Final Fantasy XV development, and hope you can wait until we release further information.”

Please Nomura, don’t start these BS statements again and then take forever.

    • KiQun

Same guy mentioned info would come out more often, yet skipped out some major events.

      • EX+

Well, you should blame the higher ups at SE for that.

    • Pekola

      Please be excited.

  • Pyrofrost

Not surprising to see 2.5 moving along so much more smoothly; considering they took the time to revamp the gameplay in KH1.

  • TimesTicking

    KH 2.5 HD in 2014?
    FFXV in 2015?
    KH 3 in 2016?
Sounds too good to be true.

    KH 2.5 HD in 2015
    FFXV in 2017
    KH 3 in 2019
    That kinda sounds more possible.

    • Unknown

except kh 2.5 hd is coming out 2014

      • Pyrofrost

    • Bryce Blalex Douglas

Unless they hit another sanfu FFXV should be coming out in 2015. It’s at a pretty decent length in development and the fact that they wanna make FFXV’s theme into multiple games, I’m sure they wanna get that out as quick as possible. Plus the development for the next-gen consoles is much easier than the PS3.

    • ayb_91

Excuse me? Your more possible sentence is not believable at all. For example, FFXV was announced 8 years ago. That means the game will take 12 years in developing? Com’on !!

Your too good to be true sentence is more possible you know. I know but it is.

    • EX+

      2015 is perfect for FF15.
There are many reasons as to why this is the case.

  • CosmicNova

So will we actually be able to play Coded?

  • Adol Christin

“We’re focusing on Final Fantasy XV development, and hope you can wait until we release further information.” It’s not like we have a choice :P

    • Pekola

      Please Understand.

  • bloodiOS

There is a sense to sum up the story leading to Kingdom Hearts III in the HD remasters, but please do not think Kingdom Hearts 3D isn’t necessary when talking about Kingdom Hearts III.

How nice of you to remind us of this fact, how about remaster it in HD for home consoles in order to make it easier to access?

    • Pyrofrost

It could possibly be an agreement with Nintendo not allowing that to happen atm.

When they do though; I’m betting they will make it and stick it on PSN.

      • bloodiOS

Once they decide to do that, it would be nice if they can include any essential scenario from Chi together with it.

        • Pyrofrost

If anything, I would expect them to include any essential plot information regarding Chi in the Western version of KH3.

I don’t see them bringing over a browser game unless they do a “RE:” type remake with it.

Personally, I would be just fine with the former.

          • bloodiOS

Well, either way is fine. As long that those essential scenarios are included somewhere within either DDD or KHIII, because I seriously don’t even want to touch that browser game even if they do bring it over.

            • Pyrofrost

Agreed. I would honestly rather have that information included as a cinematic voiced prologue in KH3 or something.

            • Pyrofrost

The main thing that I’m worried about is the talk of “online components” in KH3.

              • bloodiOS

Hmm… I’ll wait until we all have a clear idea about what it actually is before start panicking.

                • Pyrofrost

Yeah, I could be getting ahead of myself. I’ve had experience with tacked on online play in JRPGs though, and I really don’t like it. That’s why that bothered me.

    • Anime10121

I can assure you it’ll likely be redone for playstation platforms, just like all the rest. But honestly, why should they remaster it THIS soon? Let them get the first two sets of threes out and then come with the remaster of 3D right before KH3 proper hits. I mean honestly 3D sold well enough, so it makes no sense to rush an HD remake out only a year after release.

      • bloodiOS

Ah, but I didn’t say they should rush it out now (as a matter of fact, it doesn’t even have to come out before 2016.) I was simply thinking it would be ideal to have it remastered for home consoles before Kingdom Hearts III is released. In my head, the ideal scenario would be us getting FFX|X-2HD and KH2.5 in 2014, FFXV in 2015, DDDHD in early 2016, and KHIII in late 2016.

        • Anime10121

I almost agree with your timeline until you put DDDHD and KH3 in the same year. It just aint gonna happen, we’ve never gotten two KH titles in the same year, and I dont see it happening even in the distant future.

But yeah, thats pretty much how I see it too.

          FFXV-2 -2018
KH4-2019-2020 (Building a new game for a next gen system, they are DEFINITELY gonna get at least one more sequel this gen)

          • EX+

I’d prefer them to just forget about KHDDDHD for a while.

If they really wanted people to get DDD’s story without actually putting the full game in, they should’ve replaced Re: Coded cutscenes with DDD cutscenes. Or they could do a quick recap of DDD in the beginning of KH3.

I would prefer them to do something like this. Everything after KH2.5 should be on the PS4.
            Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix – 2014
            Final Fantasy XV – 2015
            Kingdom Hearts III – 2016
            Final Fantasy XV-2 – 2017
            Final Fantasy XV-3 – 2019
            Kingdom Hearts IV – 2020
That’s just me though. Nomura need a vacation though. Thoughts?

            • MrFinalgamer

just the fact that they’ll be a KH IV makes me feel…weird inside (i always saw KH as a trilogy after i played BBS). also, why are they remastering coded? that is hands down the most useless in the series (in terms of plot) it would be like kojima putting the AC!D games on the MGS collection, but not putting PW

              • EX+

Ask the genius’ at SE’s higher ups. Lol
From my knowledge, everything covered in Coded is covered in DDD with even more detail. A lot of people I know consider Coded as filler. Lol

              • Anime10121

It’s because regardless how pointless it’s story is in the grand scheme of things, ReCoded is still cannon material that connects to the main games, whereas Acid is a spinoff.

I mean Coded did have enough relevancy to be mentioned by Young Xehanort in 3D, so it may end up having a bit more relevancy than any of us would think.

            • Anime10121

Oh don’t get me wrong, I like your chart a WHOLE LOT MORE! I’m just saying, knowing SE, they’ll take the easy route and waste a year on another remaster. :(

          • bloodiOS

I don’t see any problem putting it in the same year as KHIII because it’s highly likely going to be a single digital-only title to keep the gears moving and build up some last minute hypes before Square bringing out the big gun. After all, DDD is the only relevant KH title left to remaster and honestly, I don’t see Square putting out single HD-remaster title for retail. Of course, this is all because I’m gunning for that late 2016 release of KHIII. Maybe I’m just being rather optimistic about it but I’m thinking 2017 is simply taking way too long there. Unless, in worst case scenario where development for KHIII isn’t progressing at all until FFXV is released, then I can see the game being released in late 2018…

  • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

YES! MORE INFO! Love the sound of KH III so far! Must know more by E3!!!

  • EX+

Well, I know what Nomura means with FF15, but why can’t we just get an interview? A screenshot? Anything aside from a trailer for now, until the time is right?

  • EX+

    “When the time is right”
That can only mean one thing. After the PS4 releases in Japan.
