Series tops 28 million units in total sales.

Monster Hunter 4 shipments have topped four million in Japan, Capcom has announced.

The number includes sales of the downloadable version through download cards and the Nintendo eShop.

As of December 4, the series, which first launched in 2004 for PlayStation 2, has surpassed 28 million units in total sales.

Monster Hunter 4 launched for 3DS in Japan on September 14. Capcom has not announced plans to release the game in western territories.

Will it beat the PSP monster game?

  • bloodiOS

It’s all nice and good until we learned what you did with the profits, Capcom…

  • Folk Hellfang

Came out in September right? Only 15 months to go! The slow burn…

  • TheBlackRabbit

    Congrats mr.capcom!

  • Budgiecat

Goddamn it. Capcom doesn’t deserve to make that much success these days.

    what the hell Japan…

    • RainbowPenguins

Tell me, are you saying this because Capcom bent over Megaman fans?

      • Budgiecat

They did much more than that this gen….

    • MrFinalgamer

TBH they need this. hell, the industry itself needs capcom to stay afloat. i mean they’ve been a bunch of dicks this gen, but this is one of the big guys. it’s like if activision went belly up, it would just be the start of something REALLY bad.

      • Elvick

It is no where near Activision going belly up.

Capcom is not that popular or big. Especially now.

They’ve fallen off for a reason. Sometimes, companies deserve what they get.

    • 罪罰

so a company that’s been doing bad for past few years made a really great game now, everybody likes it, now that’s not good enough, they don’t deserve their profits because they did wrong in the past.

what do you want them to do?

  • tubers

    Sony grins.

  • Elvick

Yet Capcom is investing the money into mobile.

    • Rufus

Why not? It’s a very profitable market in Japan and that only means more cashflow to fund important projects, especially the next MH episodes.

      • Elvick

Yes, because they’ll totes invest that right into MH… when they wouldn’t even invest MH profits into MH.

Nope, they’d re-invest it back into mobile.

Especially since Japan will jerk it to MH without them ever updating it or investing much.

  • Fango

Why does capcom always like to brag about how many copies have been shipped?

  • Nick Pantazis

For comparison’s sake, the best selling PSP Monster Hunter game ever was 4.87 million units lifetime for Monster Hunter Freedom 3. This is at 4 million after less than 3 months (shipped, so true sales may be as low as 3.9 million). Given the slow and continuous sales burn, this is almost guaranteed to become the best selling Monster Hunter of all time, especially since it still hasn’t even had the “first holiday” sales boost which it will get later this month.

Also, fun to look back in time a bit. Capcom only projected they would sell 2.8 million copies of MH4 in the first 7 months. They have sold 4 million copies in the first 3 months.

Cool, now bring it to Europe and NA!
