Gran Turismo 6 takes top spot at 205,000 sales.

Gran Turismo 6 is the top seller in this week’s Media Create sales figures. The Sony Japan-developed racer, launched last Friday, debuted at nearly 205,000 sales.

The Wii version of Dragon Quest X Version 2 followed at second most sold, moving 117,000 units in its opening week. The Wii U version trailed at 70,000 sales.

Spike Chunsoft’s 3DS adaption of Attack on Titan, subtitled The Last Wings of Mankind, debuted at 93,000 sales, following Pokemon X and Y in position four.

On the hardware side, Dragon Quest X Version 2 pushed Wii U sales from 28,000 last week to over 48,000 this week. Gran Turismo 6 also gave PlayStation 3 a significant boost, going from 13,000 last week to over 24,000 this week.

    Poor Lightning Returns :'(

  • Renaldi Saputra

pokemon’s sales are getting higher, nice anw
SnK.. not bad, for being anime of this year

    • British_Otaku

Not bad? Have you seen how One Piece Unlimited World RED did on the first week? It got around 80K despite being heavy marketed, based on One Piece and an ambitious project. It will have legs as we can already see with it getting 15K on the third week, but any new game based on a new anime license hitting close to 100K is pretty impressive when we have had some slow weeks recently.

      • Renaldi Saputra

but SnK was a very hype for months this year
        just like SAO last year

        • British_Otaku

So how much did you expect it to sell then? I recall Mushibugyo’s 3DS game getting just over 3K sales in the first week and SAO’s PSP game last year? 130K.

Given that One Piece, best selling manga of the year for ages, with movies which do well and an ongoing anime for over a decade got a 3DS game doing 80K. This is much closer to a success than “not bad”.

          • Renaldi Saputra

I expected it would be around 130k, because:
            1. SnK was a very hype over anywhere.. even in Japan it had more hype than SAO
            2. after pokemon XY, ppl in japan now have more 3DS and I bet most of 3DS owners (not kids) knew SnK

meanwhile One Piece’s hype, I think is still constant

            • British_Otaku

The gap between 90K and 130K seems negligible when it is a new (and low budget) IP with no proven sales potential. Just being a more popular show and printed work doesn’t guarantee that first week sales will be notably higher.

While more people own a 3DS and even last week, there were almost 130K new 3DS systems bought up, that doesn’t mean that they are more interested in getting AoT over Inazuma Eleven (which wasn’t far behind) or Pokemon (which sold better last week than before as well).

              • Renaldi Saputra

seems reasonable, I forgot that most of otaku in Japan have Vita way more than 3DS

                • British_Otaku

I tend to take things on a game by game basis. Senran Kagura started on the 3DS and did really well in both installments even if the second one was just a second campaign with more polish and the prior one with a bit of polish.

Ages of Amazones didn’t chart iirc, at least not in the Media Create charts. Both systems have millions of players, but few games ever reach that one million or even 100K in quick time.

    • tubers

Pretty good for AoT. Very ugly and QTE fest game it seems.. then doing that much sales.

Probably had shoe string budget too. A game sequel could likely do better.

    • Eder García

not bad considering the market for Anime games is on Playstation

      • British_Otaku

Most anime licensed games being on the 3DS between the Vita/3DS implies that developers disagree or value cheap development costs over the Vita’s somehow bigger anime game demographic.

Of course, you could mean 3DS vs PSP+Vita+PS3 in which case, that is a pretty contrived matchup. Any Nintendo system or Sony system can do well with more or less any anime game.

        • Eder García

“Any Nintendo system or Sony system can do well with more or less any anime game.”
We are talking Japan only here son, the PS2, PSP and PS3 got more anime games than Nintendo consoles during the last 13 years if i am not mistaken, now the anime games market is shifting slowly to the 3DS but still we have companies like the Bandai side of Bandai NAMCO and Kadokawa Games who wants to release games exclusively on PS3 and Vita because the die hard anime creepy fans are on Playstation.
Outside of Japan, both can do fine with more or less anime games

          • British_Otaku

Sounds like a odd count there, to include the most successful system of all time from 2 generations ago as if it still got games and is still relevant in the market. >_>

I’m pretty sure neither of us have the time to count all of the Naruto (mostly on Nintendo systems) or Soul Eater (mostly on Nintendo systems) games and so on. Plus a count is pretty stupid when it ignores whether the games are decent and ones we actually want to play. >_>

I’m curious whether you can name a series which got a notable amount of games on one Sony platform but not Nintendo? What’s that? Sword Art Online on the PSP? The DS got Gurren Lagann. PS2 got Ultimate Ninja. GameCube got Gekitou Ninja Taisen. This isn’t the Xbox vs the PlayStation in Japan, any Sony and Nintendo platform in Japan is going to be pretty close.

Even when it comes to the more “die hard anime creepy” stuff, it looks like both have a fine mix even if sales can be lopsided in the other way.

  • Pyrofrost

The Wii-U’s numbers had a nice jump this week.

  • British_Otaku

Gaist Crusher didn’t even chart? Even with a manga, anime running for months and all of those promotional tie ins to Eiichiro Oda, Akira Toriyama, Monster Hunter and Sengoku Basara. It’s like E.X. Troopers last year but much worse… I’m going to have to make that my next 3DS title.

Attack on Titan beating Bravely Default For The Sequel isn’t much of a surprise (30K+ is good for what will be a downloadable update for most owners), but it more or less beat everything on the 3DS platform in one of the most competitive weeks. Inazuma Eleven’s Level 5 hopefully aren’t too disheartened by their first week sales decreasing again. I wouldn’t mind them closing the series well like they apparently did for Layton.

    • Renaldi Saputra

nope, it’s just like Gyrozetter. a niche kids shounen game
maybe you can check famitsu for top 30, who knows it’s charted on it

or maybe it hasn’t out yet

      • British_Otaku

They all share some similarities with one another. I picked E.X. Troopers as they are both ambitious and well made Capcom projects (well Treasure led the project for GC). Both were on shaky ground as far as localisation goes, based on what Capcom staff said before unimpressive sales though Gaist Crusher out of the three including Gyrozetter was the only one that didn’t chart.

It must be at 11K~ or less with the information we have.

  • Ping92

3ds still selling like hotcakes, nice jump by the wii u, vita is doing ok and looks like vita tv is becoming a flop in japan

  • bldudas

I guess people, just like me, would rather play Vita games on an actual Vita instead of their TVs.

  • TheExile285

At this rate, I wonder if LRFFXIII will break a million….

    • British_Otaku

Worldwide (plus with a cheap rerelease with all of the DLC), it stands a chance… Just Japan? Don’t see it coming. >_>

    • Nightcore34

Well even if they don’t they’ll still do well, while people hate the 13 trilogy LR;FF13 is supposed to be better than 13-2 which will probably draw more people.

  • Alkhan

Vita TV is doing worse than the PSP Go…

    • Renaldi Saputra

bcos ppl in japan prefers handheld platform that can be brought anywhere

      • Alkhan

I know that. Everyone knows that.

      • Elvick

Plus half it’s functionality isn’t even usable… (PS4 remote play)

  • FitzpatrickPhillips

AoT sold that much? I wonder if people are pleased with it. I decided to pass on it after that horrible gameplay vid.

  • Chogokin

No Gaist Crusher? Companies need to stop using Saikyo Jump over CoroCoro if they want sales.

    • British_Otaku

CoroCoro is the big one that breaks out Pokemon news right? I guess that sounds a bit better than the recent Shonen Jump outshoot which has two “hits” and both are based on more successful decade old Shonen Jump works (Rock Lee’s story is good stuff while Dragon Ball SD is hit and miss with me, but the frequent adaptations imply it has done well enough).

I wonder if Capcom will even put out an original IP or sequel to E.X. Troopers/Gaist Crusher next year on a console/portable if this is how they get rewarded… >_>

    • Daniel Jeanbaptiste

Nintendo and The Pokemon Company use CoroCoro

  • Furu Chi

PS Vita still hanging on! GO PS VITA!

  • Budgiecat

If Wii U is BC and Nintendo are barely supporting it anymore why are people there still buying a Wii

    • Pyrofrost

      Most likely due to pricing.

  • shogunknight

    Good WiiU…very Good

    • Nightcore34

I was thinking the same, it’s quite good but what is that thanks to, more games or better marketing? I haven’t been following WiiU but yeah good for them.

      • shogunknight

Must be the holiday advertisements, theres also the mario and luigi bundles, the super mario 3d world bundle, zelda bundle, and lots more advertisement

        • Nightcore34

Ahh right, I forgot about that, the Christmas period would definitely gear up some extra profit.

  • Zero

Good for you, Dragon Quest X. I’m happy to see some gamers in Japan still supporting it, despite it being an mmorpg. I know lots of Dragon Quest gamers in Japan really criticized it and some did even worse, just because it was an online game.

I hope it continues to do well, I’d still love the chance to play it myself.

    • Budgiecat

I remember a famous elderly Japanese actress bashed it :P

But yeah…..Dragon Quest really should never have been a pay to play MMO. Being that it appeals to all ages, it just sounds dirty….like making Pokemon or a Mario game pay to play.

  • Skyer Ist

DQX is an expansion which requires an original game. So majority of buyers of Wii U version already have original DQX and have a Wii U. Console is rising because of holidays and bundles w/Nintendo games, not because DQX expansion release.

  • MosquitoLemon

Go Galaxy Big Bang / Supernova is how I feel every time I play an Inazuma Eleven game. Wish 3DS wasn’t region locked, I’d probably buy one of them maybe ehhhh
