New direct-feed screenshots from

Famitsu has gone up with its online preview of Tales of Zestiria.

There’s not much in the way of new content—we covered most of Famitsu magazine’s report earlier this morning—but there are some new direct-feed screenshots.

Here’s a quick character rundown:

  • Sorey – A young man raised in the “Tenzoku Shrine Grove” (Family of Heaven Shrine Grove). Around the time he was a child, he unexpectedly came into possession of a book called “Teni Kenbun Roku” (Record of Heavenly Bequeathments). With that as his starting point, he took an interest in ancient ruins. He has a gentle heart, is always relaxed, and expresses his emotions honestly. On one side, he is an overly optimistic person, but his purity and positive personality fascinate those around him.
  • Alisha – A princess positioned at the lowest seat of the Hyland Kingdom throne succession. By nature, she appears to be a cheerful young woman, but rather than a princess, she is treated as a mere knight serving her country, and speaks in a formal, man-like dialect. From her native kindness, she set out to try and do something about a world that cannot stop disasters and wars.

In the case of Slay, it sounds like he’s basically Jude (Gentle Naivete) minus the medical degree and more like Raine (Fascination in archeology).

As for Alicia, she sounds like Saber if she were a Lancer-Class, mixed with that of both Milla Maxwell (Duty to a cause) and Estelle, (Concern for her own kingdom)

    • Pyrofrost

No chance they could be their own characters with just similar traits?

      • Sae-Won Yoon

I tend to make everything relative in some way, I just happened to find the similarities and label them accordingly to the last tales character I see.

        • Pyrofrost

Oh, no problem. Thank you for making your post a bit more clear. ^_^

    • MasterSensei

Don’t forget about Natalia who is also a Princess who is sworn to serve her people!

  • Spectacularity

I just want the game in my ps3 NOW.

  • icup ✔️

one day a tales game will have a lead trap and that will be the most successful tales game ever.

  • HarryHodd

Buying the $@$& out of this.

    • Sal Romano

Buy it so hard, it spews doody.

  • PrinceHeir

    get hype :D

  • seyEliveD

Slay = “purity and positive personality” *moan*

This is the most overused and boring personality type for any character (not to mention the most obnoxious as well). The best Tales of from a story standpoint have been, in my opinion, ones that deviate from this cliche (e.g. Abyss, Vesperia, etc). It is unfortunate to see the next Tales of following the derivative protagonist formula of the worst games in the series …

    • 罪罰

      Gotta cut my cookies.

    • rekka_zan

But Destiny, Eternia, and Destiny 2’s protagonists all have this “positive personality”, and they turned out great :(

…unless we all agree that Destiny/Destiny 2’s protagonist was Leon Magnus.

    • Murasaki

I feel the same way too.

    • Audie Bakerson

It could be worse, he could have a random English word as a name like Edge, Rage, or Sla… crap.

Well, at least it is spelled correctly…

    • Blarg

What about Lloyd? I mean he wanted to help everybody and all that but his character was really interesting.

  • new_tradition

So I guess Alicia is a mistress’ child if she is on the low end of the royal line? Should make for some entertaining drama >3>

    • Blarg

Omg I never considered that. I really hope you’re right, that’s never been done before has it?

      • new_tradition

I’m not familiar with the Tales of series, so I’m not sure…I think there was something like that in DragonQuest VIII, but it’s been a while since I played it…

  • rekka_zan

I don’t mind with Slay being a “good boy”, but I’m a bit surprised to see the girl. A story about “good boy meets good girl”? Uh… wouldn’t that be, you know, boring?

And OMG look at those screenshots, they’re all smiling, like everything in this world is beautiful, friendship, love and peace. What is this, Harvest Moon?

    • DyLaN

Its a promo art, ofc they must look “presentable”.

    • Raiu

Have you not played the ‘Earthbound’ series? While it’s not “good boy meets good girl” plot-line but it is a happy-looking game…

    • Willgaea

“Slay’s positive words and actions neatly correspond with his serious
type, but as the story progresses an unexpected side will also be seen.”

I doubt hes a true “honest good guy” Like Asbel (That’s just an example that popped in my head). I pretty sure Slay has a savage side.

  • Anime10121

Like Slay’s anime look, still dont care for the girl though…

Although, I’m sure I’ll like at least one of the new girls so no biggie :)
