"It's fair to say that we're a Sony company so, you know..."

Sony Online Entertainment’s upcoming MMORPG sequel EverQuest Next has only been confirmed for PC. But a PlayStation 4 release is likely, judging by teases from company boss John Smedley.

“We haven’t announced, technically, that we’re putting it on PlayStation 4, but it’s fair to say that we’re a Sony company so, you know, I say that with a smile on my face,” Smedley told GamerHub TV. “I can’t wait to see it on the PS4.”

DC Universe Online, another Sony Online title, launched with PlayStation 4 this past Friday, November 15. Sony Online is also bringing MMO shooter PlanetSide 2 to the console in early 2014.

Thanks, GameSpot.

I would be so damn grateful if they put it on Ps4 since i dont have a good comp for gaming.

    • Lelouch Vi Britannia

      agreed. Enough said there.

Yeah, I’m not even interested in EQ, but this would be nice. Not everyone has that much money to dump into a gaming PC to run a lot of these newer games.

      • jujubee88

The faithful folk from EQ1 would probably want keyboard and mouse control.

I’ve not played the series, but I think DS4 and/or VITA’s control (via remote-play) would be a fine control scheme for the game. Based on the preview event from a little while back.

PS4 has USB ports. Keyboard and mouse would obviously be possible for it. The only thing stopping it would be the development team including it or not.

FFXIV: ARR for PS3 doesn’t currently have it, despite a keyboard being allowed, but Yoshi-P has stated this will change once the game shifts to PS4 since they plan on adding a keyboard and mouse function even for console players.

1 advice for people that will use a mouse or keyboard on the living room or those that connect their PCs to the Living-room’s HDTV. Buy a trackball instead of a mouse.

What are the advantages of a trackball? Have those made a comeback or something? I remember using them in the early 90’s, but now everything is optical and such.

              • LordKaiser

Yes they did with more people making HTTPCs (Home Theater PCs) since the wide adoption of HDTVs. The advantage is that unlike the mouse you don’t need a solid surface and you can use it in the couch with a keyboard on the lap. It’s easier to use in the living room with a PC that is used as a gaming console.

Mouse on a couch? Ugh. I can’t even imagine what that would be like, lol.

I need a hard surface and a mousepad for my mouse. Otherwise, it just feels incredibly awkward.

                  • LordKaiser

Moving a mouse in the couch is nearly impossible and if you get on the floor your will feel muscular pain when you get up. LOL with PS4 just use the controller, it will make everything easier but with PC a trackball is better. As you see on the screenshot they’re evolving into trigger form.

I’m more of a controller guy anyway :p

Hoping this is cross-play between them as well. Was kind of sad to see how DCUO turned out, but it makes sense given the context of the updating process between the two.

Just hoping it’s a bit different for the new platform.

  • shogunknight

Ill just say it again, M-M-O Console. Would be a really great addition to the PS4 library

    • jujubee88

Hey! Don’t be so generalizing! The reason I’m getting a PS4 is because there’s so much to it’s library.

      • shogunknight

An no, im not trying to generalize. Im actually happy this console has brought this set of games from the PC, been playing blacklight and warframe on my PC for quite a while. Now everyone can play

        • Bobby Jennings

And Soon Warframe is going to be cross-compatible with PC as well.

  • Learii

this going to be free to play this time or is going to pay to play again like ps2

    • Akimitsu

They’re going with a free-to-play model and will likely keep it as long as possible.

      • Learii

I hope so i like to try ever quest

Looks like the PS4 and Xbox One will have an impact on MMO’s this gen, not everyone can afford those high end PC’s and the consoles are able to run them well this time

Never played an EverQuest before, but some time ago I read about the destroyable/buildable world on Next and got really interested on that :)

  • Budgiecat

Sony, you should throw Wizardry Online onto PS4 as well. And update the graphics and what not.

Makes sense since…..you guys actually publish the game…

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Nah. I’d rather the Wizardry Renaissance project continue with another PSN Wizardry title. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy my time with Wizardry Online, but eh… I didn’t care for the free PKing world.

You can start to be PKed as early as level 5 (basically, you have a ‘beginner shield’ to protect you as high as level 5, then you are forced to remove it before you can gain any more exp to reach level 6 and so on) and in a game with permadeath, that can really suck. Just imagine dumping 500+ hours into a character only to have them die for good because some douche with better gear than you comes along and kills you for fun and you fail the resurrection, turn to ash, then fail again and become lost.

All that time you invested… Down the drain. I’ve been playing Wizardry games since the early 90’s, so I’m used to the permadeath feature, but adding PKing to this game was the worst thing they could have done. Wizardry has ALWAYS been about dungeon exploring, not about random characters going around killing other random characters.

That’s why I just simply stopped playing once I hit about level 20 or so. Don’t get me wrong. Most of the time, PKers/criminals wouldn’t bother me, but I just knew it was only a matter of time before something like that happened. If I permanently lose my character because I encounter an enemy that drains my exp and drops to 0, killing me instantly, fine. That’s on me.

It would really SUCK, but I could live with that. This whole PK crap though? Nah, fuck that. The game itself is difficult enough as it is once you reach the 5th dungeon or so. We don’t need elitist douchebags ruining the experience by trying to be tough guys, killing guys that are obviously weaker than themselves.

  • Sevyne

I’m definitely not opposed to this and many other MMOs making their way over to PS4.

  • Bobby Jennings

Now all I need is Elsword and PROBABLY PSO2.

  • Elvick

I’d always figured they would do this eventually after they finalized the concepts of the game on PC.

  • LordKaiser

We need a Phantasy Star Online 2 for PS4.

    • Elvick

Then we could not get that one too! :D

I joke, but I do still want them to get their act together on the localization or just admit they aren’t working on it anymore.
