Major Nelson demonstrates quickly it can be done.

Xbox One codes can be redeemed using Quick Response codes, Major Nelson has revealed.

The seven second video below shows how quick it is to redeem. Simply hold the QR code in front of the Xbox One Kinect, which will scan and activate it.

Ever since his little abrasive interaction with Conan O Brien… I just don’t find this guy a very good “face” for Microsoft’s gaming console. He seems very fake and partially snobby. They need a new guy(girl).. probably should be a girl.

    • Noctionus

what do you mean with ‘fake”?. Are you saying he like Kevin Butler who actually doesn’t work for Sony?.

      • JuhRo

Fake in his “sincerity” for gamers, gaming, and for Microsoft. –He just presents things in a far too corporate way.

        • BossTuff

Having seen Larry speak multiple times in person I think he is very sincere with how he speaks. He pretty much lead the Microsoft down the path of relaying information via social networks in regards to xbox. I could understand getting a bit jaded, especially with all of the trolling that’s been happening to him since the console announcement. This particular blog post comes to mind:

          http://majornelson.com/2013/10/22/reminder-about-blog-comments/

Seems like he’s got it hard anyway with representing data to people. Whatever he says gets torn apart online and if he decides defend it then the same people say he’s being too abrasive.

I honestly think the trolling is getting to him.

          • JuhRo

I can definitely see that.. He used to be all smiles just a few years ago when I would watch Xbox news.. I was much more into the Microsoft community just a couple years back.. haven’t had time now.. but he’s lost that over the past couple months and you’re making a lot of sense.

      • Bobby Jennings

        Kevin butler was funny though.

      • TwinBuns

The first time I encountered Major Nelson was when I watched Angry Joe’s interview with him at the Xbox One reveal.

        Watch this at 11:32, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RtSGFryKwo&feature=player_detailpage#t=688
For the first time in the interview he takes the mic away from Joe to defend Xbox One’s always online requirement. This was just days before Microsoft’s infamous U-turn.

When he defends something so aggressively that turns out to be untrue it only makes him look bad.

        • HeatPhoenix

Which just means he got fucked by Xbox, you know? He wouldn’t defend it like that if it wasn’t in the cards.

  • Noctionus

    Cool.

    • MrKappa

It certainly is a neat feature.

      • Noctionus

        How about PS4, may I ask?…

      • DrForbidden

I suppose it would be a neat feature to have if you don’t mind the ever-increasing dependence of boxed retail games on unlock codes, passes, etc.

For people who resent that trend, it’s not a useful feature at all.

        • HeatPhoenix

But that has nothing to do with that, it’s just a neat feature for example when you buy those Xbox Live prepaid cards.

          • DrForbidden

Well, the article does not specifically state that, opting to just say ‘Xbox One Codes’, which presumably refers to all codes including DLC stuff and passes.

  • EX+

So, MS is doing vines? The next one should feature Don Mattrick.

    • DarkLegacy

What do you mean by Don Mattrick? I know he’s not working with Microsoft. Don’t worry, I’m just asking

      • EX+

No it’d be funny if they did a vine featuring Don Mattrick and how he got fired.

        • DarkLegacy

That does sound like a good idea. I really would like to know how he got fired if they did make a vine of it

  • DesmaX

Well, this should be great for Online Passes.

Hope the PS4 will do this too

    • BossTuff

Eventually they might, but you’d have to get the camera. It could be cool if they use the camera on the Vita to do it since there isn’t anything else it’s used for.

    • Zackasaur

Online passes are effectively dead now.

      • Budgiecat

Yeah to be replaced with $50 season passes

        • Lelouch Vi Britannia

true, and that’s when i wait for the GOTY edition. Simple as Said.

          • Budgiecat

            fools rush in

            • Lelouch Vi Britannia

That’s why I wait in General.

  • Bobby Jennings

Wow, this is nice! Hopefully Sony does this.

  • Zancrow

They finally found a way to use Kinect!

  • Zackasaur

Sadly, this is the greatest use the Kinect has ever found.

And it’s something both moderately pointless and fully capable in even 3DS-level cameras.

    • freestylinyoshi

I’m Sony all the way, but I’ll say that Kinect isn’t useless.

  • AdamBoy64

    Wow, that is fast.

  • DrForbidden

Ehhh… so THAT’S why it needs Kinect to function…

  • icup ✔️

amazing… these 90s japanese tech are finally making its way to america.
