High sales for PlayStation 4's weekend debut.PlayStation 4 sales surpassed one million units sold through during the first 24 hours after it became available in North America this past Friday, November 15, Sony announced.
The number is the highest ever for a new console launch. PS2 shipped and sold 500,000 during its first weekend in North America, 600,000 in Japan, and 165,000 in the United Kingdom. PlayStation 4, of course, has yet to launch in Europe and Japan, but will hit both territories on November 29 and February 22, respectively.
“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,” Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO Andrew House said. “Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”
