It has been five months since last I touched any video games. And still can’t seem to get hooked to anything.

This be a longest burn out for me.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

What was the last game you played?

      • veruses

That would be Far Cry: Blood Dragon. Last time I really enjoyed playing a game.

I have pushed myself to play clear some of my backlog for the past five months but that really is no fun. Quite depressing, to be honest.

        • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

I hear ya. I have a huge backlog myself, and am still trying to finish GTA 5, but honestly, have had no time. Still got KH 1.5 Remix and so much more to finish. Some games I don’t even feel like playing. But if I don’t, they’re just wasted cash.

          • veruses

Pretty much my case. Wish I could slap my younger self to realize how time is much more important than we all think.

I won’t be making any purchases on video games until something pulls me back in, until then it’s my backlog or nothing.

So NeoGaf & Gematsu is all the ‘fix’ I’ll need for the coming future.

    • Gigus

Wow, thats pretty long. My longest was three months and I haven’t been gaming consistently though. There would be a 2 to 5 day gap in between when I started playing again.

    • TheExile285

That sounds awful, hope you find something you enjoy ASAP.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Sounds like you’ve been stuck on an island or something. I couldn’t imagine not playing any video games for ONE month, much less FIVE. I’ve been gaming for over 20 years and I certainly don’t have any intention of stopping any time soon, heh.

      • Arcana Gear

i didnt touch video games since july 13. only more 12 days to make four months. And i am really like you, but my parents made me let all my gaming consoles in my old house with them and move to my new home cause of college, the first month was really bad. Now i can pass some days without thinking bout games.

        • veruses

I fill that void with gaming news, when I can.

    • DesmaX

      Wow, that’s a long time.

But, not gonna lie, can’t bring myself to play vidya for at least a month.

    • Elvick

I get burned out, but it’s never that long… yikes!

    • PrinceHeir

wow how do you do that!

unless you watch anime/read manga and other stuff it is possible!

  • Gigus

    no red gift box today?

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I haven’t been home, but it will be added soon. I’ll announce the winners tomorrow I suppose, busy weekend.

      Sorry about delays.

      • Gigus

        No worries man.

  • TheExile285

For anyone interested, I asked IFI about Neptunia Rebirth 1 & FFF getting localized

    http://forum.ideafintl.com/post/neptunia-rebith-1-and-fairy-fencer-f-6600519

  • TheExile285

Is anyone else importing God Eater 2?

    • Luna Kazemaru

      mhm i am

      • TheExile285

I’m pretty excited for it ^_^

        • Luna Kazemaru

me to I just hope it sells enough and maybe just maybe namco will patch in network mode

          • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Hm? Last I heard, network mode wasn’t being added at launch, but they did have plans to add it later. Has that been changed?

            • Luna Kazemaru

I was thinking its based on sales which is why I hope it does it does well because It might pick up alot of steam tho namco is really trying their best in promoting the game.

              • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

Well, it also helps that they’re selling for Vita AND PSP. I’m sure there are plenty of people that still haven’t picked up a Vita yet, but are glad that GE2 is coming to PSP. It should definitely help sales.

Hell, I’d honestly be surprised if Vita sales beat PSP sales for this game.

                • TheExile285

Vita TV also launches the same day.

                  • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

I wasn’t even aware of that until seeing the latest article on here, lol.

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

      Right here~

I’ve got about a week to enjoy it until Lightning Returns arrives, lol. There will also be a Lightning event in FFXIV the same week God Eater 2 comes out, so there’s that ><

    • Arcana Gear

nop, cause i know it’s being localized… i aint right namco? *puppy eyes*

    • TheBlackRabbit

      eng plz……>.>

      • Arcana Gear

*highfives* together we shall hope for a localization!

        • TheBlackRabbit

*high fives back* WOO one can only hope!

      • TheExile285

        I’ll double dip if localized

  • Invisbin

Anyone trying to make a dedicated team/clan for Kill Zone Shadow Fall?

I wish us as a gaming community would push the idea of competitive gaming becoming a real thing where gamers can get payed doing what they love. E-Sports l!

    • Elvick

      I don’t like competitive, I like co-op. 3:

So mad that co-op is DLC. That’s going to really hurt who plays it. People already play other modes far less than competitive.

      • Invisbin

        Hopefully it isn’t payed…

        • Elvick

          They already said it was.

  • MrFinalgamer

so, this is the first time in my gaming life that i’ve had so much in my backlog, especially RPGs. since most of you seem to have been going with this for a while, how do you start? do you play a game one by one? or do you play all of them in small sessions? (especially for RPGs)

    • GhostNomad

I tend to work on a few games at a time, but I noticed that it’s easy to get distracted. I’m now limiting my games to 3-5 games at a time, most of which I’m actually working on, with maybe one or two at most being games to just play with no particular goal.

    • Arcana Gear

Do EVERYTHING you have to do, personal, profissional, etc. in another words i make sure that i wont be interrupted by other people and i dont have to start a game in the morning and play a hour, then have to do something, then continue at afternoon, then have to do X something then play more three hours at night, i prefer one long gaming session with five/six hours.

Then make lists, games close to ending, games that i’m at the middle, games at the beggining, list of games that i’ll begin all again, games that i want to start (games that i never touched or new releases)…… then chose one and go all out…then pick one of another list and end it… repeat and pray that you have a energiy to complete it, i try to variate genres and portables/consoles to i dont grow bored.

      • Arcana Gear

oh and games that i want to archive 100% but i dont mix backlog with them.

    • DesmaX

      I normally go one-by-one.

Of course, if said game gets boring, I can go to another one and then go back later

    • SuperLuigi

I have what’s called a backloggery account. Make things fun for completing games you own and stuff. Here’s mine for an example http://backloggery.com/chasealan

    • futuristic_imagination

For me I usually play 2 games, 3 at the most if its an action game like MG:Revengence.

Currently, I am playing Devil Survivor 2 and Persona 4 Golden. Before I have about 14 backlog of games, right now I have about 9…er 8 once I finish DeSu2 this week.

One thing that you should note is to play the games for fun. Don’t force yourself to finish a game, its not a job (unless you are a reviewer or something).

    • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

Just accept the fact that you will never finish them… It’s easier that way…

      • MrFinalgamer

i’ll fight that backlog until the end of my days!
it’s not too bad TBH it’s of about…25 ish games. and that’s not counting unreleased games. it’s so damn big on PS3 though because it has god knows what, and to top it off, my tv broke down (reason why i won’t be getting a PS4 on launch…or until summer-winter next year at the earliest)

    • LordKaiser

It gets worse if you play MMOs.

  • EX+

I hope Noctis shows his brutality in the next FFXV trailer. I know he probably is, but the E3 trailers didn’t really show that. I’m also curious as to what the Link Form is. Did I miss something? Because to my understanding, his eyes turn red and becomes OP. Prompto was talking about how Noctis’ ‘power’ was not something his body was used to in the 2011 trailer.

    • DarkLegacy

Yeah I want to know what Link Form is. And if they do the next FFXV trailer then Link Form will be used and we’ll know what it is. And it’s not just his eyes that change red or any colour, Noctis has that kind of power where his hair and eyes change colour because of the emotions he’s got

      • EX+

Yeah, I’m very excited to see how that works out.

        • DarkLegacy

Me too. I hope they do use it in the next trailer otherwise we’ll have to wait until it’s released, then we’ll know how it works

  • True Gamer

Alright..so with everything we have heard so far with these new and improved next gen systems..which system are you all going for, or going for first?

(Personally, I am going for the PS4 for first)

    • MrFinalgamer

PS4 easily. then a Wii U, only so i can play the many Wii games that i missed

      • True Gamer

Awesome. I can tell you first hand that the Wii U is excellent. I have Mario and Darksiders 2 on it and I plan on getting pikmin 3 down the line. As for Wii games, I play Super Smash bros. brawl on it from time to time.

    • EX+

PS4 next summer Wii U whenever X or Zelda U comes out.

      • True Gamer

Yup and by that time you will not only have a broader PS4 gaming selection, but hopefully a broader Wii U selection as well.

        • EX+

Yeah! Another reason as to why I’m not getting a PS4 straight away is because there are a lot of games coming to the PS3 in 2014, like KH HD 2.5, Drakengard 3, TOX2, that sort of thing. So I can wait for a PS4 for a while. When are you getting a PS4?

          • True Gamer

Well my friend, I will be getting mine at launch, or at least try to. I do not have a pre-ordered PS4, so i expect the attempt to last over that weekend lol. My only hopes is that time is on my side, such as getting up early and getting to Best Buy, but not early to a point I may need a sleeping bag (not that desperate). Honestly, I can wait but if I dont get the system at launch, I may spend that saved money lol.

    • SuperLuigi

I have a wii u. Getting an xbox one prob when titanfall is out or halo 5. I might get a ps4 in a couple years too.

      • True Gamer

Titanfall looks like an fun game. I cant wait to play that one day. But i guess one step at a time lol

      • AdamBoy64

        Sounds good.
Titanfall is generating a lot of interest, as I’ve noticed even just from Gematsu.

Is there a release date for Titanfall? I’m guessing by the way you’ve said it, you won’t be picking up an X1 on launch day.

The Xbox 360 would be my least favourite console from last gen, but one thing I can’t deny – it really has a fantastic controller. Best of the gen, in my opinion.

I haven’t seen much of the controller design for the X1, but here’s hoping it doesn’t stray much from that great design.

        • SuperLuigi

I haven’t used it but besides being lighter it seems about the same.(which is a good thing) Also titanfall I think is in march. If it does come out around then I’ll buy me one for a bday preset which is n april.

    • AdamBoy64

I’ve got a Wii U. And I feel like it’s been really starting to pick up of late. Really looking forward to Super Mario 3D World also.

I’ll look at getting a PS4 possibly sometime next year, by that time the library will have grown a bit too, which is always a plus.

      • True Gamer

I want to invest in a 3Ds. I have always wanted one and I heard it was an excellent hand held. Manly, I want to play that Kingdom Hearts for it.

        • Elvick

You need to play Dream Drop Distance.

          Fantastic game. :D

  • Alkhan

Is anyone else’s backlog as f****ed up as mine is? I’ve got:

    6 Gamecube Games

    8 Wii games

    67 PS3 games

    5 XBox 360 games

    3 XBox games

    28 PSP games

    11 Vita games

    22 DS games

    7 3DS games

    So, 150 games.

Not to mention I plan on getting all of this between Nov 5th 2013 and Dec 31 2014:

    Knack (PS4)
    Killzone: ShadowFall (PS4)
    Resogun (PS4)
    Contrast (PS4)
    Tearaway (Vita)
    Sorcery Saga (Vita)
    Thief (PS4)
    Final Fantasy 10 HD (Vita)
Tales Of Symphonia HD collection (PS3)
    The Guided Fate Paradox (PS3)
The Witch and the Hundred Knight (PS3)
    South Park RPG (PS3)
    Tales Of Xillia 2 (PS3)
    Lightning Returns: FF 13 (PS3)
    Diablo 3 (PS4)
    The Order 1886 (PS4)
The Legend Of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS)
    inFamous: Second Son (PS4)
    Dangan Ronpa (Vita)
    Demon Gaze (Vita)
    Ys: Memories Of Celceta (Vita)
Castlevania Lords Of Shadow 2 (PS3)
    Deception 4: Blood Ties (Vita)
    Mugen Souls Z (PS3)
    Atelier Escha/Logy (PS3)
    Destiny (PS4)
    Dragon Age: Inquisition (PS4)
    Injustice: Gods Among Us (PS4)

And that’s just off the top of my head and not including impulse buys.

Also, I intend to get a Wii U for these games but only when I see the price drop take effect on Amazon.com and Nintendo gets an account system so my DL games aren’t tied to the system.

Super Mario 3D World (I don’t even like Mario that much but I know a fun game when I see one)
    Sonic Lost Worlds
    Super Smash Bros.
    Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
    ZombiU
Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure
    Bayonetta 2
The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
    The Wonderful 101
    X
    SMT X Fire Emblem

The worse part is that I’ll NEVER finish all of these games in my lifetime. It’ll take thousands of hours to finish all of these games :(

    • True Gamer

lol I feel your pain. Dude I have 20 ps3 games I have not finished yet, including Mass Effect 3; 2 Wii U games, and 3 xbox 360 games including Fable 3 lol. Im about to take it further lol, I still have not finished Ratchet and clank 2 and I have both the PS2 version and the HD collection, It feels like my gaming world is falling apart. Not to mention i’m also getting a PS4 with new games to add to those that are uncompleted. All i can tell you man is to take your time.

      • Alkhan

And Playstation Plus isn’t helping at all. All of these free games are pulling me deeper into backlog hell.

    • TheExile285

I thought mine was bad but yours is truly ****ed.

    • new_tradition

Haha, a kindred spirit. I think I’m actually around 100 games, give or take a few. This is excluding stuff I already preordered :’D

    • Kobracon

Wow I’ve never actually counted mine before….I know its alot but I can’t give you a specific number (or as well laid out as that) but you aren’t alone! Aside the consoles on your list, I also have PC games and visual novels…..

    • Elvick

If I counted, I would weep.

      Let’s just say it’s a lot.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

If I counted my backlog I would probably let it get me down. I just play one game at a time and try to not worry about it. That’s the only way I can handle it.

      • Alkhan

That’s what I’ve been realizing lately. I just have to take my time and pick 3 games and finish them before playing any other games.

My backlog got so bad because I use to have a weird habit of getting all the way to the end of certain games but never actually beating them (Star Ocean 1 & 2, Zelda SS, Persona 1, etc.)

  • Zuhri69

I have decided, against all rhyme and reason to wait until the PS4 launch before buying any new games. So far, regretting it…

    • GhostNomad

Buying games for your current consoles, I assume?

      • Zuhri69

Anything. The plan is to just wait until Ps4.

  • Charlottes Guardian

Hows everybody doing this fine open forum? :3

    Whats everybody been playing?

    • SuperLuigi

Paper mario sticker star and Castlevania symphony of the night.

      • Charlottes Guardian

Ohhhh castlevania SOTN….. one of the best games ever made imo. That things a freakin’ masterpiece.

        • SuperLuigi

I love almost all of them but sotn is pretty good. Dracula X is my personal favorite

    • GhostNomad

Dealing with a leftover headache from yesterday. There are good and bad sides to having your birthday fall on Halloween, I suppose :D

Far as games, I’m playing a bit of BF4 right now. Still a bit glitchy on PC and a lot of the servers are having issues, but it’s fun when you occasionally get the one game that’s stable >.> Been putting off Dragon’s Dogma/Crown and Kingdom Hearts, but that’s my current rotation so far, with a little bit of Need For Speed in between.

[EDIT] I posted this as a reply to a different comment so…. Had to fix that real quick <.<

      • Charlottes Guardian

I hope you feel better! And Its a alittle late, but happy belated birthday, its gotta be pretty crazy having your bday on Halloween lol.

I played a bit of The BF4 beta on the xbox and it was a blast :D If only my friends would get that instead of call of duty. xD

And btw, you should never put off Dragons Dogma, because that game is AMAZING. Never played anything like it, with such an epic cinematic vibe alone with being a free open world. Its greatness ^-^ Although the story is a little yolo, but the gameplay makes up for it lol

        • GhostNomad

I’ve always liked to imagine that those scantily clad ladies were dressed up for my birthday, so there’s that! And since a lot of places are already prepared with the spirit of Halloween, it feels like an actual event as opposed to a normal evening at a restaurant where the staff rolls up to sing.

I definitely enjoy BF4 and the beta was fun. Little glitchy (and especially poorly made for the 360 from what I heard) but a decent representation of what the game would be once you looked at the core. So far I haven’t had any of those true Battlefield moments yet since I’ve only been playing TDM and Commander in any other mode, but when they roll out some fixes for the current bugs and make the game more stable, I’ll actually start playing it as it’s meant to be experienced :D

And I actually played a LOT of DD. I think I had three or four vocations maxed and the last thing I remember far as story missions goes was killing the Griffith (I was a little further than that but I can’t remember since I also did most of the sidequests available). On that note, my only beef with that game are the missable quests and the fact that there’s so much to do that eventually I lost any motivation to kill that big bad dragon that snacked on my heart in the very beginning and was more than content with running around the world and killing other big bad monsters.

    • AdamBoy64

I’m currently playing through White Knight Chronicles II.

I played the original back around when it launched in 2010, and then bought the sequel on launch, but only started playing it a couple of months ago. I’m really enjoying it.

That, and a subsequent playthrough of Mario Galaxy. That’s a great game.

Also, not quite the same thing, but I’m watching a friend playthrough Wind Waker HD. It’s really good, but perhaps not quite 10/10 good. Generally it’s better, but there’s a few aspects I feel were better in the original.

What about you, Charlottes Guardian? Been playing through much?

      • Charlottes Guardian

Ohhhh windwaker, the memories. My gamertag on xbox is actually AG TheWindWaker. The only zelda I ever beat the whole way through, (I had an older brother who would just play through them all and I liked to just watch). I’m interested in knowing what you think was better in the original compared to the HD version! I dont have a wii u, so I like living vicariously through other people lol.

As for me, I’ve been playing a lot of Awesomenauts for the PC, some GTA5 here and there, and replaying Dust: An Elysian Tale because I love the story so much. I’m really just counting the days till I get to play FFX and FFX2 again in HD! :D

        • AdamBoy64

I can relate more and more to just watching someone playthrough a game. It can be pretty relaxing, and quite a bit of fun too.

Well, in terms of Wind Waker HD, I haven’t seen it through to the end, so some of these thoughts might alter. Anyway.

The visuals are far improved, no doubt. The most impressive (and also very practical) update to the graphics is – now you can see a lot further. In the original, things would just sort of ‘pop’ into the screen as you approached them.

Now you can see a lot further. That really adds to the game.

Secondly, the controls. I’m not sold on the Wii U Gamepad. I mean, it’s good – but I don’t think it’s better than using a GameCube controller.

I thought having the map on your controller screen would be a great idea,

But it hasn’t turned out quite like I’d expect. If you’re in a dungeon and struggling to find a sense of direction, you’re going to find yourself looking up at the TV and down at the controller a lot.

This wouldn’t be so bad, but they took out the mini-map onscreen too. So that makes it worse. I feel it’s a lot more troublesome and onerous to use your map, than just having it on-screen.

Using the motion controls (eg. move the GamePad controller to aim your bow, etc.) is a complete joke. Thank goodness it can be disabled, to just use the normal aiming controlled by a thumb stick. That could be a deal breaker otherwise.

It does have Wii U Pro Controller support, so I’d like to try that. I can imagine it might be an improvement.

          Thirdly, the game length.
So, they’ve cut down the game length by shortening the Triforce quest. I guess people found it boring or whatever.

I can’t understand why they’ve done this. The Triforce quest was the one main parts of the game that gave meaning to the ocean concept – to the world they created.

Cutting it to pieces is basically them admitting they made a mistake with the ocean concept in the first place. Making less to do on the ocean doesn’t fix that, it just makes it much more boring and pointless.

From the sounds of it, you may have enjoyed the game the length it was. I found it was bordering on being too short to begin with. It’s a short game.

And they just made it shorter still, by taking out content. Thanks Nintendo.

Thank goodness for that ‘hero mode’ they’ve added, that helps make up for it.

Overall, I think the remake is the better version to play on. The enhanced visuals I believe make up for it’s shortcomings. I could completely understand if someone disagreed with that though.

I haven’t seen a lot of the FFX remaster, but from what I’ve seen – it looks like they’ve put a lot of effort into it. I hope you don’t have to wait too much longer for it to be released!

    • futuristic_imagination

I’m doing ok after recovering from my allergies and a mild cold due to sudden temperature change.

For gaming life, I have been playing Devil Survivor 2 and if the DS is charging, I’m playing P4 Golden (I finally get to start playing this game!)

      • AdamBoy64

Oh man. I can relate to those sudden temperature changes. Never know what the temperatures going to be like one day to the next. It’s the time of the year for it.

        Hope you’re feeling 100% soon.

      • Charlottes Guardian

The weather really can be a jerk at times like this :( I hope it doesn’t happen too often as I’ve had family members that were just tourted by allergies.

I’m also one of those people who hasn’t gotten to play P4 Golden yet, in fact, I’ve never played any persona game, and I hate myself for it. lol

        • Budgiecat

You also never played Berserk PS2

    • TheExile285

Been playing a lot of GEB and the GE2 demo to get ready for my God Eater 2 import.

      • Charlottes Guardian

As a huge fan of the monster hunter style, I always wanted to get into GEB. My brother really enjoyed it and only had good things to say. I wish I could play them now, but my psp is long gone :(

    • Kobracon

Well my net has been crapping out so I basically lost 3/4 of a month of my FFXIV sub, which sucks big time. So to vent my rage, DYNASTY WARRIORS 8! GO!

      • Charlottes Guardian

Aw im sorry, that sounds like it sucks :(

But there really is no better way to release the rage then slaying endless unsuspecting victims in some Dynasty Warriors! xD

        • Kobracon

Yeah! Nothing like slaying thousands of my ancestors to quell my rage >:D

      • Budgiecat

Waiting out for PS4 version. Two games for the price of one

        • Kobracon

Well theres also the price of the PS4 >.>

    • MrFinalgamer

i’ve been playing Valkyria Chronicles 2 (first time) along side P3P (first for portable…like 5th for P3) been enjoying VC2, though the characters are lackluster in comparison to the original cast (Zeri is cool though)

      • Charlottes Guardian

I’ve never played the Valkryia Chronicle Series, but Ive always wanted to! D:

Is there any good one I should pick up for the ps2/ps3, as those are the only systems I have that it might be on. My psp got destroyed long ago :(

        • MrFinalgamer

it’s only on PS3 and PSP (don’t know why sega moved the series to portables, but whatever).

and if you only own PS2/3 then you’ll have the oportunity to experience the best one (or second best, VC3 comes REALLY close) which is VC1. the game is absolutely gorgeous even to this day. the gameplay is quite the interesting hybrid of real time strategy/RPG/TPS. it’s quite cheap now (on amazon it’s like $19). here’s a gameplay sample so you can judge whether you like it or not (i highly recommend it though!)

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-0RY4TTNwE

          • Budgiecat

Well with a PSP 3000 with mods eventually you can play VC III (being fan translated) on TV (plug it in) and you can probably play VC II on the Vita and use PSVIta TV besides the PSP 3000 to play on the TV…

    • Elvick

Beat Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance a few days ago, finally.

Playing, off and on, Proteus, Velocity Ultra, Crazy Market and Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate. (all PS Vita)

    I am worried about Sony

/v/ is saying that they may go bankrupt :/ and /v/ is always right.

What do you think about this?

          Looking at her cheeks… I believe you….

            You’re good at this.

            • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

That and there’s the flag behind her… :P

              • LordKaiser

And the word Sala and a description below but it’s to blurry to see. Don’t surprise me as we latinos now have all the races of the planet in our blood. Unless this is a Japanese that visited Mexico.

                • Gigus

If you’re a somewhat of a history buff like me, you might remember the Chinese immigrated to the west during the 19th century. She could have some Chinese ancestry in her. XD I need to stop. I think I’m boring you guys with history.

                  How’bout dem gaems!

                  • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

I remember hearing that Europeans and Asians came from same kind or ancestry long ago…. Either that or immigration…

                    • Gigus

There are alot of theories and so far none proven. Just more clues keep popping up. Where these clues keep popping up are mostly in asia and egypt. But to stay a bit close to the subject with Tac-Mex’s cosplayer. I wouldn’t be surprised if cosplayer’s dad was chinese and mother a mexican, or vice versa. During the 19th century alot of chinese immigrants traveled to the west because of the new (western) frontier because the need for labor for the railroads because slavery was being banned.

                • Budgiecat

There’s White Hispanics in Mexico. They just don’t immigrate to the U.S.

        • Gigus

That’s not really hard to believe. In this day and age genes are so spread out now, people are not aware they have distinguishing features from another ethnic background.

    • Luna Kazemaru

something really wrong with you if you actually trust /v/

      • Tac-Mex

but sony has been losing money, i am scared :/

    • Kobracon

What are they losing money on? I mean….its not like they’re like Index doing back alley dealings or Capcom with their more…..confusing decisions with their IPs.

      • MrFinalgamer

the R&D of the PS4, and it will be sold at a loss (albeit small one). but even then, if you look at the recent financial report of sony they took a small loss of 8 million dollars because of the price drop of the vita and other things. i don’t think they’re doing bad in the slightest, in fact, they’re finally doing good after quite a long streak of losses (like a 5 year streak?)

        • Gigus

Yup but they’re actually gaining money back now since the ps3 is selling a lot more. The loss that they are getting from the ps4 is very, very small compared to the ps3. They’ll actually gain a profit in 2014 if the pre-orders are fulfilled and consumers don’t cancel.

Can you believe a stockholder asked them to branch off the playstation brand? If they do that than sony would really suffer, because thats the only product that they have that actually sells well compared to they’re TVs.

      • Budgiecat

        SNK
        Capcom
SEGA (well not so much because of lol Pachislot)

those are the companies that should be worried….

    • EX+

Don’t be worried about Sony… be worried about that lovely chick!

    Pretty good stuff

    • GhostNomad

WHY MUST THEY ALL LOOK SO GOOD?! T^T

I demand an artbook for this game.

    • Elvick

They’re all good, but the 4th is the weakest IMO.

So hard to pick between the first three. D:

      Picked 3…

      2 is winning. ):

      • Arcana Gear

Picked 3 too! and we can hope, cause it’s on the second position! the second position will be picked too!

    • Gigus

      They’re all awesome but I chose 4.

  • Tac-Mex

Demon’s Souls 2 may get announced, i am euphoric!

    • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

      • Gigus
        • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

There was another leaker saying almost the same… A game that looks like Demon souls but under a different name… So there’s that…

          • Gigus

Then it might be under a different name. Like I always tell other gamers, just wait till the official announcement.

    • Elvick

Surprises me Sony hasn’t announced one since Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls did so well… and the hype of Dark Souls 2 is growing.

So it’d be smart if they are making one. Though Deep Down seems a lot like it as well. So… *shrug*

      • Azuardo

So what’s the difference between Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls? I thought Dark was the successor of Demon… Now Demon’s is getting it’s own sequel too?

        • Budgiecat

none. Its so stupid. All it is, is one is a Sony exclusive and FromSoftware changed the name so they could go multiplat and add more stuff.

          • Azuardo

Riiight… So you would expect Demon’s 2 to be a Sony exclusive too, right…?

            • Budgiecat

Of course it’d be a Sony exclusive. That was the whole point of changing the name…

              • Azuardo

Just checking. If FromSoftware isn’t in contract with Sony, Demon’s 2 could still be multiplat if they wanted it to. But I understand how it works now – Dark is multiplat; Demon’s is Sony.

                • Budgiecat

No not really. Its kinda like how Lost Odyssey can never be a multiplat game. M$ paid for that license name. Odds are Sony did the same for Demon’s Souls. It’d be like saying Uncharted or The Last Guardian could be multiplat.

                  • Azuardo

Okay, so Demon’s is under license with Sony. Got it.

        • MrFinalgamer

the differences is basically level progression. Dark Souls is more of an open world in which you have to find your own path (from gameplay that i’ve seen, haven’t played it for myself)
Demon’s souls is more linear. the game is seperated in different sections (1-1,2-3,5-2, etc.). besides that they’re pretty much the same thing

          • Azuardo

            Thanks for the insight!

  • LordKaiser

I posted this on another thread but I’ll make it official:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq4NZJ_8rBg

PSO2 JP seabed quest coming up the 13 of this new month. New PAs including a Majiken like Photon Art. But these quests even with that name don’t look like your characters are underwater at all but no mater. New monsters = new equipment and I can smell a new class coming up because SEGA buffed Hunter’s tanking tree but right now tanks are not worth using IMO.

Meanwhile on Sony’s Yoshoda’s twitter https://twitter.com/yosp/status/395844205215363072 can someone decrypt his hidden message?

    • MrFinalgamer

hidden…message? aren’t you looking too much into this? or am i just really blind?

      • LordKaiser

“We’re happy & appreciative to learn so many people use and like PS3’s media features.” He evaded the question and responded with this instead. It almost feels like he’s either trolling or that they will add it.

    • shogunknight

Looking forawrd to this. Question, were tanking class actually useful in PSO2? I dont think i ever saw parties requesting for tanks, well not like the way Tera/FFXIV does

    • Budgiecat

I’m gonna tweet him to get a brain and localize the game already

      • LordKaiser

        He’s from Sony lol

        • Budgiecat

oh okay you confused me since you misspelled his name (Yoshida)

Anyways, can’t hurt since he did answer that one tweet where that guy said ‘please I need to listen to my porn mp3s when playing Killzone’

  • Kobracon

So…..I walked out on my game studio after 2 months of no pay whatsoever on Thursday. Its kinda weird quitting so fast. It has certainly been an…..interesting experience. I learnt how a game studio circling the drain looks like, the feeling of wondering if I’m gonna get paid, co-workers leaving and overall bad team management all in 2 months.

Currently having nothing lined up but still trying to get a job. I’m gonna give it until next year, if nothing comes up, I’m gonna have to try to get employed as a Game Programmer instead.

    • MrFinalgamer

interesting to hear about the more sad parts of our industry. anyway, good luck on finding a job !

I have a few problems with Disqus and that problem is that they keep logging me off even though it hasn’t happened to me before

          • LordKaiser

It happened to me 3 minutes or so ago.

            • DarkLegacy

Everyone, we don’t have long until next gen consoles launch on November 15th and 29th if you’re in the UK. What console is everyone getting on day one? PS4 or Xbox One?

    • McPoo

Now now, we’ve had access to a next gen console since last November (according to some people). Many people don’t seem to class the Wii U as next gen though.

Tbh I own one and don’t think of it as next gen, what do others think?

And to answer your question, I’ll be getting one or the other next year, after there’s more reviews, updates and games out :)

      • DarkLegacy

I’m buying a PS4 at launch and now that you’ve mentioned Wii U I might buy sometime next year

        • http://www.android.com/ HyperTallih

          xd

        • Glass

What role would you like to have on NintenScience?

  • McPoo

    UK people:

You probably know that Blockbuster have gone back into administration. It’s a shame, as they’re one of the few good remaining high street stores for gaming.

At the same time though, it’s worth checking out your local store. Somebody on Gamefaqs was telling me they’ve seen Vitas for £75, Wind Waker HD and Pikmin 3 for £22.50 each and more. My local is only small, I only found The Bureau for a tenner which I got, but I’ll definitely be checking the big one in Chester on Monday.

    Just a heads up! Xox

    • Gigus

Wow thats awesome. When I was in the US last year (visiting family and friends), they had crazy sales. I remember getting batman arkham asylum, arkham city(collector’s edition), ac2, acb, and acr for $50 bucks brand new.

  • Elvick

I got Knack and my PS Camera yesterday. :D

They didn’t have Killzone: Shadow Fall yet. After that, I’ll be pretty much set for my PS4.

    So hyped~

    • Budgiecat

Yeah right whatever. Call me when Yakuza Ishin gets localized and Shenmue III is announced

  • Gigus

I know gematsu is mostly centered on the asian influence but is anyone excited for this?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK2zYHWDZKo

    • Elvick

I like X-Men, but I’m not really that excited for it. I’ll watch it when it comes out on bluray though.

      • Gigus

Thats understandable, especially for huge X-men fans if you are one. Many X-men fans did not like first class but the writing was awesome.

        • Elvick

I’ve yet to get around to watch it. D: I have it though.

          • Gigus

Watch it. You won’t regret it. The acting and writing is the best thing I’ve ever seen come out of a comic book movie. Bryan Singer has worked on previous X-men movies (1 and 2). My main problem with 1, 2, and first class is that he has alot of characters that act as background for the movie rather than adding some kind of story to them to make them unique. Once you watch it you’ll understand what I mean. Still a great movie though.

        • McPoo

I loved First Class. Easily the best X-men film.

I’ve really enjoyed all of the films Vaughn has directed. Shame he’s not doing this one really.

          • Gigus

Yeah its a little disappointing but I’m okay with it. Bryan Singer is there and he did really well with the first and second x-men films (also did first class). So whatever he’s learned from working with Vaughn will really help him out. I think its in good hands.

    • shogunknight

Yes, im looking forward to it. Was very impressed with 1st class and from this trailer, it looks good

      • Gigus

I’m just hoping they aren’t pulling a Marvel Now. Recently western comics hasn’t been getting a good break. If you’ve read X-men comics recently you’d know what I’m talking about.

        • Budgiecat

More interested if that Captain Harlock CGI movie comes to BR/DVD

          And of course…Godzilla

          • Gigus

Thats the only way I’ll be able to watch it XD. I may live in Asia but not Japan.

            • Budgiecat

I wonder if they’ll dub it?

              • Gigus

I’m not a huge fan of dubs but it better be top notch voice actors.

    • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

I’m excited. I really liked first class, and the story for Days of Future past seems like it will really fit. The trailer is amazing.

      • Gigus

I’m kinda curious to know why they have to go back in time. Knowing that Bishop is there, some one could’ve messed with the past.

I’m still pretty pissed that Marvel has ruined the main x-men storyline. They’re already ruining some good characters they’ve brought back. *spoilers* I’m wondering when they’ll bring Professor X back just to kill him again in the comic book lol.

    • Charlottes Guardian

I am! That trailer was epic, and I love me some comic book movies.

And if this site has a lot of Asian influences then this trailer is perfect for here. Because that was clearly the most anime trailer I’ve ever seen lol.

      • Gigus

I’m confused by your last two sentences.

        • Charlottes Guardian

Lol, I just meant, the trailer has a very epic feel, and presents itself in a way that you might see in an epic anime, such as the music and the awesome powers etc etc.Just making a joke, don’t worry about it xD

          • Gigus

okay I somewhat get it now XD. Still don’t see how it could look like an anime. If western anime, yes. Japanese anime, no.

            • Charlottes Guardian

Lol I didnt really mean look like an anime xD I meant it more like, the storyline seems like something out of an anime, and the way everyone was talking, and things like that :3

              • Gigus

Sorry I still don’t see the connection lol Japan isn’t the only culture obsessed with storylines that consist of messing with time or going back in time. U.S. does it too.

    • new_tradition

I won’t lie, I loved First Class a lot, but when I started reading the info about Days of Future Past slowly released, I was getting wary. Then on top of that the Wolverine movie had that ending that leads into DoFP apparently, despite taking place after X3.

If they can actually somehow tie all the X-Men movies together, that will be impressive as heck.

Anyways, trailer seems epic (I don’t recognize all the mutants though) It really seems like they’re gonna show McAvoy-Xavier emotionally crushed and lost, which makes a lot of sense after the way First Class ended (and yay! He’s not bald yet, lol).

      • Gigus

I think they retconned X3 (thank goodness). And didn’t they shave Xavier’s head at the end of the movie? I can’t remember *inserts blu-ray and looks for the ending scene*. Also the mutants that are in the trailer we haven’t seen in any x-men movies yet are Bishop, Blink, and Warpath.

        • new_tradition

Nah, I think X3 is here to stay canon. The Wolverine has quite a few references to Last Stand. But I don’t think they’re gonna bring it up too much beyond mentioning dead characters a few times or something…

And lol, no, Charles still has his hair by the end of First Class. I just assumed he lost his hair due to age, or his powerful telepathy, or whatever *shrugs*

          • Gigus

Lol no wonder why young Charles said, “I don’t want your pain. Your suffering!” in the trailer XD.

    • LordKaiser

      So that guy is Bishop?

      • Gigus

Yup, he is there. Warpath too. I’m actually excited now because of Warpath. His presence there tells me X-Force maybe present. I’m thinking the asian girl with the facial tattoos is blink. After reading up on the cast (only the ones that they revealed), I’m not so hyped on warpath anymore because he was one of the twilight wolf boys -__-. I am now scared because another great character could only be filler material for the movie.

Any of you guys watched Gatchaman Crowds?

It’s essentially ‘reality meets video games’ kind of thing… I would like your impression before watching it…

    • Budgiecat

      I fuckin hate it

      • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

        Woah… Why the hate?

        • Budgiecat

Because it shits all over the original (not in a good way), has awful characters and is pretentious and convoluted for no reason. Plus the 3D graphics are barf inducing.

  • EX+

Sony is going to announce the PS4 processor on the 13th. I wouldn’t be surprised if they hit a 2.0Ghz clockspeed for it *foams at the mouth*

    • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

You’re foaming at the mouth for 2.0Ghz? Really?

      • EX+

No, not literally. It’s just a joke. Lol.

        • https://www.youtube.com/user/GamingHeroTetsuya TetsuyaHikari

          Good, lol :p

    • shogunknight

Wait, i thought the processor was 1.6ghz quad core like X1?

      • EX+

They haven’t actually announced it to my knowledge.

  • MosquitoLemon

I played a little Pokemon this week (like, an hour). I don’t have much to say other than that the pacing of this one is a lot better than the other games. I’m only about halfway through and my levels are reaching 40.

  • EX+

I know this is false hope… but I have a feeling that we might see another FFXV trailer at the PS4’s event with the Dewrito king. Just maybe. Objections?

  • EX+

Alright, crazy ass prediction for KH3.
In the D23 expo trailer, Sora uses dual pistols and his health bar is really high, so I’m guessing it’s later on in the game. So due to that, I’m thinking that Aqua has already been saved and taught Sora how to transform his Keyblade. He also uses moves like vortex and blitz and we know in the beginning of each KH game, you only have a 3 hit combo.
I think that the first trailer of KH3, where Sora found the master keeper (those are gonna be in game graphics btw) is somewhere near the beginning of the game.
Why is Sora in Twilight Town? Well, again crazy prediction, maybe he’s looking for a way to find Ventus.
It’s already confirmed that Riku is going to be in the game and he better be playable.
Who knows, maybe he can also teach Sora how to use the darkness. And for him to be more skilled at combat. Don’t get me wrong, Sora’s good, but his style isn’t as polished as Riku’s. One of the things that show that is his fighting stance.

    • Gigus

That trailer was more of a tech demo. Nomura already explained whatever you see may not be final, and expect to see many changes and advancements in whatever might be in the final build.

      http://www.enixorigin.com/nomura-discusses-kingdom-hearts-3-gameplay-trailer/

      • EX+

Oh yeah, I know that much. C’mon, I’m a KH fanboy. Lol. Like I said, they’re just crazy predictions. Not to be taken too seriously.

        • Gigus

Sorry I had to. Your predictions have gone way over crazy. You’re hyping yourself way too much. If I were you, I’d wait on an official trailer.

I’ve also noticed you post alot XD. Not trying to sound rude or anything but you have alot of free time on your hands. What do you do besides gematsu, and play games? No school or work? If I am being rude, you can ignore me and I’ll stop.

          • EX+

No, no, I do go to school.
I’m on break though and have been for the past week, so I’ve had a lot of time on my hands naturally.
I’m not even going to be able to watch that PS4 event. Hell, I didn’t even watch E3 live.
The work that at get to do at home is… beyond easy. Sometimes it can be quite long, but not to a time killing extent.

            • Gigus

Ah, I see. Enjoy your break. What are you majoring in btw?

              • EX+

                IT, graphics, physics.

                • Gigus

If you’re going for IT, I suggest you get certified cause a degree and a certification in the field will boost your chances of getting a job after you graduate.

Graphics? Did you by any chance enter Zero’s art contest?

                  • EX+

                    Thanks for the advice!
As for Zero’s contest, no I haven’t. Have you?

                    • Gigus

Nope I’ve missed the date. You’ve seen my artwork already though. Why don’t you post up some of yours?

                    • EX+

I’m not the sort of person who shows things to other people that much. Most of the work that I do goes in school and stays in school. Of course I do things to polish up my skills, but nothing as good as yours. I guess I’m just not too confident to show it here.

                    • Gigus

lulz aww shy aren’t we. I was also on the impression you drew that noctis as your avi but I guess not. To be honest your work is gonna be out in the wild regardless. You will receive alot of criticism good and bad.

Most of the comments and judgment will sting. But if someone is able to give you constructive criticism and appreciate what you have accomplished, thats all you’ll need. Thats something I get here when I post my art :).

If you’re still shy about your work, I won’t force you to share it with me. If you change your mind, you know where to find me ;)…………… Wait does gematsu even have a p.m. system? Guess I won’t see it XD

                    • EX+

                      Some day!

                    • Gigus

Like right now? It would be nice XD Come on. It can’t be that bad.

          • Invisbin

You’re being extremely rude. None of that was called for.

            • Gigus

I replied with appropriate mannerism. I have also been talking to EX+ for a while now so I’m pretty sure he would know when I’m being totally rude. I even kindly asked him to tell me to stop if I was acting inappropriate towards him. If you still think I was being mean to him I was not. I made every precaution I could to not offend him in any personal way. I’m sorry if you feel that way even though I fully replied to him without insulting him personally.

    • DarkLegacy

I thought Yen Sid told him he has a new ability to transform his Keyblade into guns or any kind of weapon

  • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

Just got Assassin’s Creed IV:Black Flag For the PS3, Pretty much the same thing, only few improvements.
    >Really Neat Textures.
    >Smooth Camera
    >Less Glitchy
    >Edward’s Actually A Badass.

Umm.. I’ve been wondering to get Dragon’s Crown, Should I go for it? I mean I was happy when they announced for Europe but I still feel I might not enjoy it.

    • Gigus

Dragon’s crown is pretty good. I liked it. Gameplay is fun whether you’re alone or playing co-op. Story is not the best but its still interesting. There is a bit of repetitiveness to it but its to uncover some of the story’s secrets and easter eggs. I still recommend it though. If you are going to get it, I suggest you go for the elf as your first playthrough. She is the most technical out of the bunch and she is fun to use.

      • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

I appreciate your review of Dragon’s Crown. Well, I have to wait because there’s FFX/X-2 on the way and many other RPGs So i’ll have to wait.

        • Gigus

Its not much of a review XD. I’ve read what I wrote and its complete jargon lol.

          • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

It’s okay to my understanding. :)

    • Azuardo

I wrote a review for it, too, if it helps :)

      http://www.cubed3.com/news/19608/1/beyond-the-cube-dragon-crown.html

      Very fun game.

      • Gigus

I just started playing again and I noticed the new update gave the characters color indicators when they move around. Do you know how to get rid of that?
I know its helpful because it differentiates you from other players but its fu*(!ng annoying when you’re playing solo.

        • Azuardo

EU vers or US vers? I believe the US vers then added another update that allowed you to turn that colour indicator on or off. EU vers may not have had that latest update yet.

Since you spelled it ‘color’ I’m inclined to think you have the US vers :p I haven’t played it for a while, but the latest update did mention that there is now the option to hide the indicators so… it must be there somewhere!

          • Gigus

Toe-mato, Tomato, I spell’em either way XD. I live in a multi-cultured place and my accent and behavior just reflects off of who ever I speak to. I’m just glad no one thinks I’m mocking their accent XD

            • Azuardo

Haha so you have the US vers? :p If so, the option should be there to turn them off, if I read the latest update notes correctly. EU vers, I’m not so sure…

              • Gigus

Yeah I imported. I couldn’t wait. I’m actually looking for it now. I’ll let you know if I find it.

                • Azuardo

I think another way to check the patch notes is to highlight the game on the XMB, press triangle, and then click Updates or something. Should list what was added to the latest patches. Hope you find it.

                  • Gigus

I’m aware of how to check the patch notes. And I just noticed there was a new update. So all is fixed now.
EU should be getting the same patches as NA and Japan. That would be really odd if they didn’t.

                    • Azuardo

                      Great stuff :)

                    • Gigus

I don’t understand why they didn’t include the revisions made in 1.03 in 1.02. Doesn’t matter now though.

                    • Azuardo

Yeah, I think they just get feedback all the time and I guess after the 1.02 feedback, they then needed another patch.

                    • Gigus

Well it was a pretty fast response to the community and its good for their rep. I’m just glad I don’t have to see so many flying colors flashing around now. Glad to see cross-play has been enabled.

      • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

Hmm.. Good Stuff. Will see to buy or not.

    • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

I have bad experiences with AC3… Is IV worth playing?

      • PhoenixAutomatic~♪(๑ᴖ◡ᴖ๑)♪~

Yes, If ya love ‘dem pirates. also the game itself seems more in depth, It’s quite big.
Example includes seeking treasure underwater, Wildlife reflects a lot, in islands and many places.

  • $18114340

To those of you who have owned both (and maybe even if you haven’t): What’s the difference between the PSP-2000 and 3000? Besides the obvious technical differences. I’m not looking for a detailed explanation; I’m looking for personal experiences on things such as reliability and build quality, especially on how the screen looks in motion and battery life/power usage differences if there are any.

The reason for this is that my 2000 does not currently have a battery, and it’s pretty beat up. I can hardly play games on it because the AC cord will disconnect if bent a certain way and the whole thing shuts off. To send it in for repairs would cost something like $70-80 USD +shipping and tax. To buy a new PSP-3000 would be something like $90-100. I’m wondering what would be the better choice. I don’t plan on doing this immediately either so I can wait for a price drop.

    • Gigus

The 3000 series has this weird anti-glare screen which sorta helps but they’re generally the same.

    • LordKaiser

The 3000 was made to be mod resistant for a while till it was broken.

      • $18114340

I’m going to hold onto my 2000 just in case at some point in the future I want to softmod it or something. Gamestop won’t take it from me anyway since the serial code on the bottom rubbed off a long time ago (happens with every portable I own).

If I do get a 3000, I’m not planning on modding it or anything. Most of the games I want to play are UMDs I already own or can get cheaper than digital.

        • LordKaiser

Also the 3000 image was interlaced and that annoyed many people. BTW modded 2000 can run UMD also I’ve heard.

          • $18114340

Well, like I said, my 2000 is pretty beat-up, and I have no idea how thorough Sony’s warranties are… for example, since the screen still works, they probably wouldn’t replace it and I wouldn’t expect them to, but it’s really scratched up to the point of being an eyesore.

Most of my inclination towards purchasing a brand-new 3000 is because I want something new and shiny (I’ll take care of it this time, promise!). I’ve heard conflicting reports of the interlaced 3000 image. Some people said it was better and some people said it was worse. What’s your take on it? How exactly does it look different?

            • LordKaiser

I didn’t liked it when I saw it on friend’s PSP but apparently many retroids like this.

here is a article on the issue:

              http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/21/sony-looking-into-psp-3000-interlacing-problems/

              the screen looks sharper tough.

              • $18114340

I might just get my 2000 fixed, then. I like the interlacing effect — I just don’t think it suits the PSP’s comparatively small and dark screen when a lot of detail is lost in 3D games already.

                • LordKaiser

Cool man hope you can do it. Sometimes Amzon sells parts if you can’t find on eBay.

Anyone else creeped out by the little boy on the Toaster Strudel commercials?

Especially the way he says “gooey.”

    • Elvick

Never seen it. Though I *hate* their commercials usually.

I hate that they take a dig at Poptarts so often.

They’re different. I can’t eat a Toaster Strudel out of the box. I can a Poptart.

  • RSene

Ok, so I don’t know if this was already posted here, but the new BF4 comparison between PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One shows some noticeable differences.

    http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/11/01/battlefield-4-next-gen-vs-current-gen

I read on DF that the Xbox One version has more detailed textures than PS4, but by seeing the video, it’s well noticeable for me.

Considering the PS4 has better hardware, and BF4 is 900p on it against 720p on One, this looks very strange to me?

    Opinions?

    • Gigus

The comparison video has already been posted by Sal. Digital foundry has also done a very in depth analysis on each version, and which of the two next gen consoles has an advantage.

In my opinion from a glance they look pretty similar. The only time you’d actually notice a difference is if your looking at all the little details. Its pretty much like zooming in on screenshots to see which screenshot will start to pixelate as you zoom in. And I think you got the stuff backwards about Digital foundry’s analysis. I’m gonna read it again. If I’m wrong, I stand corrected.

      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-4-next-gen-vs-pc-face-off-preview

      • RSene

Well, that position was my position untill i saw the last video published by IGN. While in the other reports – i saw the news in gematsu and read the DF – i didn’t saw many differences, in this one it looks noticeably to me.

        • Gigus

To be honest, I really don’t know any more due to an update on DF’s analysis. Just click the link and then view the update thats linked into their analysis page.

I don’t plan to stop playing my PS3 for years to come, but I’m thinking about getting a PS4 when I’m in Japan next July. That would be a great souvenir. And if Final Fantasy XV comes out in Japan by then, I’ll get it to go along with my PS4. And ship them home.

That was something else, to say the least.

For what it’s worth, I won’t argue if any of my posts regarding those conversations are modded for feeding the trolls, so do what you must, Sal!

WHERE WERE YOU WHEN WE NEEDED YOU, ANNIE?! There were so many people to eat! Well, three, to be more specific, and upon further research on their tumblr, they weren’t trolling as much as not having been burdened with an overabundance of schooling. So you didn’t really miss much :D

Fried tofu, super delicious! Find the right tofu, the right seasoning, cut them to thick slices and start frying. Man oh man, they taste so good with fried rice!

  • Haruya

So, after playing some “Project x Zone” on the 3DS, my younger brother decided to try “Resonance of Fate” for the PS3. The gameplay sure is something else.

    • bloodiOS

Yeah, it sure is different (and fresh.) I’ve gotta get back to playing it sometimes.

    • GhostNomad

It was definitely a new type of game for me back when I first tried it out (and failed miserably on the first major boss). I’ve been meaning to get back into it and actually think my way through as opposed to running around like an idiot and pewpewing all over enemies with only a basic understanding of the damage system.

    • MrFinalgamer

been meaning to pick it up, but it was released near the release of FFXIII (dumbest move someone can do, period) so i never bothered. how’s the gameplay & story?

      • $18114340

Good. Battle system is addicting but it feels a little too punishing in the beginning of the game, and since it’s so different it takes a while to get the hang of. I’m not very far into the game myself so I can’t really comment on the story. It’s pretty vague so far but the setting is interesting. It makes me sad that Tri-Ace didn’t continue making console RPGs like this.

      • GhostNomad

To follow up on what gold posted, there’s an arena that you can get to close to the start of the game (or maybe it was pretty much accessible from the very start, I’m not sure) and you can run through a list of tutorials there. They go about explaining the combat pretty well, and you can consider them as free practice where you won’t get murked.

      • Budgiecat

Its a better game than FF XIII is thats for sure

      • AdamBoy64

I’m in the same boat. I’ve seen it in stores and I’ve been thinking about picking it up, but I haven’t yet.

I can put it on that list of games to buy one day, but I’m not sure I ever will.

    • Budgiecat

Its more challenging and unique than Mass Effect thats for sure…

    • futuristic_imagination

Yeah RoF is unique, though the beginning of the game is pretty rough until you get comfortable with the battle mechanics. Man now I want to replay that game again.

  • bloodiOS

So, a question for Sal, where did you get the hound-detective-like avatar that you use on Neogaf? I’m just curious since it looks pretty darn cool.

    • GhostNomad

While my guess would be something tumblr-related since things like that tend to pop up on that site pretty frequently, this comment’s purpose is not to answer your question.

INSTEAD! Since I’ve noticed your fascination in clothed animals, I have come to propose another source for your amusement! (I totally didn’t steal the owl-in-a-yellow-jacket for my Twitter picture. Nope. Never.)

      • bloodiOS

        Thanks, brother. Much appreciated.

  • bloodiOS

So, I’ve been thinking. There seems to be many people buying consoles at launch, and personally, as someone who has never done that, I would like to ask why. Personally, I’ve always thought buying a console at launch is, more or less, paying to be β tester for the manufacturers. Home consoles are a lot more advanced now, they are no longer just meant for playing games, they have a lot more features and functions, which also means that there are many things also needed to be sorted out eventually, not to mention potential defects. So yeah, back to my original question, why buy consoles at launch?

    • MrFinalgamer

maybe they just want to be part of it. just like with betas for certain games (like DS 2) why do you want to play an unfinished product first? they want to experience it, they don’t mind having some bad things if that means they can enjoy something they wanted to use…and also bragging rights

    • GhostNomad

Personally the only two consoles I’ve ever bought at launch were a 3DS and a Vita. In the past, I just didn’t have my own income and couldn’t afford buying things as soon as they were released, but as I’ve already experienced this twice, I can say that there is certainly the negative side to buying at launch, that being bugs and improvements. There’s always the features that are promoted to hell and back which end up actually released months and months later, and it just so happens that those are some of the features that hype me up for the launch purchase.

As far as home consoles, that’s also a very valid point. They could fail, there could be firmware flaws, there could be features missing, all that. All that said, I’m still getting a PS4 on launch, partially because I’m excited about the coming generation and want to see where game devs are going to take us, but also because I currently have the income required for such a purchase, and should something go wrong, I’ll be within warranty AND I’ll be able to offer that information to potential buyers so that they can hold off until the issues are fixed!

The way I see it, it’s a necessary sacrifice (in general). If everyone waits, no one would’ve bought the consoles to put them through a solid test so we wouldn’t know if there are any flaws. Without knowing about the flaws, we won’t be able to give that feedback to the companies which won’t be able to fix the flaws and nothing will get accomplished in the long run.

      • Budgiecat

I think I bought PS1 and 3DO at launch lol

    • Azuardo

I want to remain positive that I won’t experience problems. I’ve never had to return a console before, and refuse to believe that every single launch console will need returning after a few years. I’m very much jumping on the bandwagon by buying at launch, but I may have the opportunity to review free games for it too, so it should be worth it.

Some consoles might have had launch issues but the truth is that it happens to pretty much every electronic device (Edit: xcept 3DO, PC/FX thanks @Budgiecat). When a device release date is set, its assumed ready for customers to buy and use but its also for gamers to give as much insight/criticisms as possible so as to better the device in the future. Gamers are diverse, so they have different opinions when they get a hands on with games and console experiences. Unlike MMOs and games, theres no Beta version of consoles supplied to consumers. So thats why game companies take in as much advice before launch and also take another more post-launch to make sure. Would I buy a console at launch, yes i dont mind as long as what it has satisfies my needs. But i wont force anyone in doubt to get at launch till he/she is very sure of the console to buy, whether its a month after/a year after

      • Budgiecat

3DO and PC/FX had no launch issues neither did Bandai Playdia lol

        • shogunknight

          hmmm, i see. Noted

    • Elvick

Everything has potential defects. You could buy a PS4 after the PS5 comes out and it could be defective. That’s how technology works.

Why should I wait? I don’t care if there are a few issues, I just want to play my games.

And you should be happy people do, otherwise the industry wouldn’t function.

      • bloodiOS

? I never said I’m not happy about people buying consoles at launch. It’s just that I’ve never done it, so I’m just curious what drives people to do it.

    • AdamBoy64

Different people are going to have different reasons.

One might buy a console on launch to play the games on it. That’s the simple reason, but probably less common than I think.

Or perhaps it’s just the excitement of having and experiencing something new.

And you’ll always get those people who are just fans of a particular company.

Like for the Wii U, part of the reason I bought it on launch because it was Nintendo, and I’ve really enjoyed their stuff in the past.

Check out these tracks, they’re awesome, not too heavy:

Well, they seem to be dipping the larvae in some kind of sauce, so I wonder how they taste, being soaked up in that.

      It’s okay.
      I didn’t want a good night’s sleep tonight.

I’ve just finished reading this manga. It was short, but nice:

      interesting ^^

      what’s it’s all about?

Guy dies, fell into Hell and… fun stuffs happens x)

  • bloodiOS

So, has anyone been watching Kyoukai no Kanata? I think it’s a pretty nice show, and the animation is top notch, too.

    • GhostNomad

*Bookmarks for future research and secretly hates on Annie for adding even more things to read/watch to an already huge list of anime/manga I am trying to catch up on*

    • Budgiecat

Just by one look I can tell I wont be interested.

Just started watching Kill La Kill though…

    • Tac-Mex

I watched the first episode and it looks boring, i liked this part though:

      • bloodiOS

        It’s… slow-paced.

      • Elvick

I didn’t know about it at first based on the first episode, but after that it got better and better for me.

Give it a few more episodes.

    • Elvick

Yup, been watching it on Crunchyroll and it’s awesome.

Here’s the first video demonstration of Hyper Light Drifter’s combat. I like what I’m seeing:

    • bloodiOS

I can see Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae as a PS3 game but err, I’m not sure these guys would be too patient with the Cell… maybe they can put it on the PS4 with 8xMSAA, good shadow, and add in SSAO. On the other hand, Hanasaki ka Yousei Freesia sure looks like a perfect fit for the Vita.

      • Budgiecat

        Thats why I included PS4

        • bloodiOS

          ? I never said you didn’t…
Well, anyway, what I’m seeing here is that the PS3 has larger install base while the PS4 hasn’t even launched in Japan yet. So if they want to release it on home console, PS3 would be the place to look first, but it got the Cell, so err… the PS4, on the other hand, is much easier to program for but no install base (yet), so I’m not sure how these folks would think.

          • Budgiecat

Well obviously folks at S-E have faith in the PS4 what with transferring Final Fantasy Versus XIII (ugh now FF XV) and KH III to it. So they anticipate a substantial install base. Of course, thats probably by 2017 when those games will arrive…nnngh

The ease of putting it on PS4 plus getting Sony to help market them plus the fact that PC gaming market is flooded as it is so these games could get lost in the mix while NOT being as lost on a new console that promotes them especially when the game library for PS4 is currently pretty WEAK.

Plus Id also like the PC horror game DreadOut to come to PS4 as well

    • PrinceHeir

2nd game reminds me of Onechanbara :D

      might get this!!

also D3 please announce Kagura Z here in the US!

i cancelled my order hoping they would announce it!!

  • McPoo

Aw, looks like I missed some drama below…

Did the giveaway winner actually get announced? I’ll put my lucky thong on if there’s still a chance to win.

    • shogunknight

No, i dont think its been announced yet. Quite an interesting drama below, also missed it

      • MrFinalgamer

it was mostly some guys promoting their page or something as replies to other people, and when sal told them to stop…yeah it all went downhill from there (until they left of course)

        • shogunknight

          I see, thanks

        • McPoo

I had a look for their page, all I found was a twitter group :s

    • Blizzaja

I missed it too, they also wanted me to join them before.

      • Gigus

It’s not worth joining them knowing they started personally attacking people. Not a good way to attract gamers.

        • Blizzaja

I don’t know why they even did that, that whole argument was uncalled for.

    • Gigus

      lol

  • shogunknight

Still wondering why Square wont make a new Valkyrie Profile. No new xenogears, at least theres a new drakengard, no new front mission (didnt really like the last one they did), no romancing saga too. They must have been real busy with Tomb Raider/DeusEx (good reboots by the way). Im not also comfortable about having sequels to FFXV, will it be like FFXIII? Probably not, but knowing im playing something incomplete from the start…..probably just too worried though

    • $18114340

Given that Covenant of the Plume wasn’t received well, and that all three companies involved in development — Square Enix, Tri-Ace, and Tri-Crescendo — are all separately pursuing their own agendas (with the former two being interested in mobile, Square Enix investing more in their most known brands and western games, and both Tri-Crescendo and Tri-Ace working on properties belonging to other companies), I’d say that Valkyrie Profile is all but dead right now.

Tri-Ace is doing Phantasy Star for Sega, Tri-Crescendo is apparently doing Digimon games for Namco Bandai, and Square Enix obviously doesn’t see the point in making JRPGs for a core audience anymore.

      • shogunknight

Quite unfortunate, that game had touching stories. Been looking at some old titles and was thinking that some of these games (in my opinion) could be very good for a reboot. Grandia, Sword of Etheria, Wild Arms, a new Hack maybe

        • Elvick

I want more Wild Arms so bad, it’s a shame that Sony is so dumb with JRPGs (or RPGs in general).

That’s one thing they no longer offer at all. Well, apart from that Vita game… but we don’t know if it’ll come out worldwide yet.

    • MrFinalgamer

the guys that made xenosaga are basically trying to replicate the success of xenoblade. doubt they would want to go and make a sequel to a 15 (just recently on october 20th) year old game

      • shogunknight

Huh, it seems like they are the ones making X on WiiU? Hmmm

    • http://twitter.com/RaiuLyn Raiu

      You’re forgetting Musashi…. :(

      • shogunknight

Aha yes, brave fencer musashi, and chrono trigger

    • Elvick

      Xenosaga is Namco Bandai.

      Xenogears is Square Enix.

      • shogunknight

Ah, my mistake. Must have been thinking of the other one when trying to write xenogears

    • PrinceHeir

would really want Valkyrie Profile and Front Mission to return!

      especially Valkyrie Profile!

it’s been waaay too long now!

we should ask Tri-Ace and hurry up and finish Phantasy Star Nova!!

  • Tac-Mex

So it looks like Xbone OS is having a lot of issues.

    http://www.spawnfirst.com/news/famousmortimer-contacted-devs-issues-xbox-one/

    • bloodiOS

I’ll believe it when I see it, I don’t know, they still have 20 more days to work things out in that mandatory first patch. I just can’t think they would let it be that bad after the launch of the Xbox 360, because that’s just stupid…

      • Tac-Mex

We can expect anything from MS though.

        • bloodiOS

Anything, huh… including them miraculously fixing everything in the nick of time, ultimately allowing the XBO to launch without a single problem?
          xD

          • shogunknight

Hah, i see what you did there

  • Charlie

Did anyone hear? Marcia Wallace (the voice actress of Mrs. Krabappel) passed away recently.

    • Azuardo

      Very sad news.

    • Elvick

      Yup, sad.

I think it’s nice they’re retiring the character instead of replacing her, which is impossible.

      Poor Ned.

      • Charlie

I didn’t even know Ned was dating her till today. I’m not a big fan of contemporary Simpsons.

        • Elvick

          They’re married

          • Charlie

            Yep, you proved my point.

  • Tac-Mex
    • shogunknight

      Dammit, i cant think straight

      • Gigus

Messing with your mind with a beautiful cosplayer? XD

    • bloodiOS

      If it’s true, then I hope it’s a cross-gen title.

    • MrFinalgamer

i hope we get something along the lines of P2 or 3. not saying 4 is bad (except the fanbase it has garnered…god do i hate most of those), but i would like a darker story with the level of detail P4 had to it’s characters. and if Philemon and nyarlatholep can make a comeback…i will squeal so much (though it be weird if Igor had an assistant since he is Philemon’s servant…weird)

    • Gigus

Not trying to be rude or anything but how come you keep posting that cosplayer? Is that you by any chance? If it is you, nice cosplay :)

      • LordKaiser

Lol I doubt it but dunno if he was the photographer. I wonder if it was a anime convention in Mexico or something like that.

        • Gigus

It doesn’t hurt to ask XD. But then if Tac-Mex said yes, I think the fanboys will flood her inbox XD Lucky thing gematsu users don’t have message inboxes……. do they? I’ve only been using disqus but I do have a gematsu account under the same name.

    • LordKaiser

      We know she’s pretty.

    • http://gematsu.com/ Sal Romano

      It’s fake.

    • new_tradition

I know it’s a superficial thing, but the red colour scheme was already done with Persona 2 IS and EP, so I can’t help but doubt the announcement being about a brand new Persona game.

Of all the colours in the spectrum they can choose for the next Persona game, it has to be red again? I dunno…

      • bloodiOS

Persona 2: Dual Fate Edition for Vita confirmed!

        • MrFinalgamer

i’d be so damn happy. especially because i have almost bough both EP (haven’t played that since back in 2000 O_O). i kinda doubt it though, especially since they just released EP in PSN, and a IS remake like 2 years ago

        • Elvick

          Would buy.

Still pissed we will NEVER have the ability to transfer over a save between the two. (unless we imported the Japanese versions)

  • Gigus

Not really much of a spoiler or anything but it still raises questions on how much the karma system will affect the story and gameplay. I wonder how evil and good delsin will look like.

So, with Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster coming out in a few months, it makes me wonder… if Square Enix is to eventually work on HD-remastering Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System, would they release the home console version of it for the PS3 or the PS4?

    • MrFinalgamer

maybe PS3 since if they put it on PS4 people might be expecting 1080p 60 fps and stuff like that. and i doubt square would want to bother with all of that. but if they remaster FFXII oh do i hope it’s on vita too (for how open it is, it would fit greatly on handheld)

      • shogunknight

I actually think it will be a PS3/4 and Vita remake. And who knows, it could also include Revenant Wings

        • MrFinalgamer

never played that, so that would certainly be nice =D

      • bloodiOS

I’m quite positive that if it was to happen, we will likely see a Vita version alongside the home console counterpart. By the way, Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5 ReMIX- is 1080p@30fps and so Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is going to be. For Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System HD Remaster to operate at 1080p@60fps would be a cinch for Square Enix.

    • new_tradition

I’d say PS3, and if possible, PS Vita.

The way I see it, for Square Enix, I think the two games that people will buy for the next-gen consoles are FFXV and KH3, so they need to make money somehow before those games come out. What better way than to cater to the already established install base with the PS3 at least? I mean, the people who are gonna buy FFX/X-2 HD will have a PS3 (or Vita), right? There’s a good chance they’d all get a hypothetical FFXII HD game (maybe HD Collection if they can put Revenant Wings in there somehow, lol)

      • bloodiOS

I don’t know about Revenant Wings, man. It might as well be a PS1 title, so they would have to remake it instead, since there is no way to remaster that.

    • LordKaiser

They can bundle it with Type-0 HD XD

      • bloodiOS

That would be glorious. They will finally be able to put those 90% localization efforts to good use.

      • MrFinalgamer

i would love squeenix until the end of my days if they did that, especially if it’s on vita too! (unless KH3 sucks…then blood will be shred in ALL of square’s offices)

      • Budgiecat

        yesssssss

  • MrFinalgamer

so i was just thinking. since we’re entering a next gen and both the Xbone, and PS4 use blu-rays (and the wii u using some…weird blu-ray type disc) we’re seeing games become bigger and bigger with Knack being like 37gb, and Killzone being 39gb. my question is, how long will it take for games to go for double blu-rays? and better yet, will FFXV be the first FF game since IX to have multiple discs?

    • shogunknight

…….Nahh, i think it would use a single disc, at most dual-layered. If the disc is full, they probably would take the remaining piece of gameplay into a new disc and name it FFXV-II “coming when its ready”

    • futuristic_imagination

I would have to agree with shogunknight, its going to be single disc/dual layered. For FFXV, I heard that it might be a series, so they would go the “FFXV-II” route or something like that.

I like the idea, but development would be a lot longer especially when games are in the HD generation. The closest thing to multiple discs would be like the Mass Effect Trilogy or Assassin’s Creed Ezio Trilogy (the bundle set).

    • Elvick

      XIII had multiple discs though.

    • $18114340

I think we’re past the era of multiple discs. The capacity of blu-rays is supposed to expand, and if it doesn’t, I don’t think developers are going to need more space — rather I see them attempting to more efficiently manage their resources. This ties into an expansion into digital distribution, where our internet service is still relatively slow and expensive (especially in larger, more spread-out countries such as the USA). If a game is going to be large enough to take up multiple blu-ray discs, then it’s going to be extremely inconvenient to digitally distribute.

Disc space also has diminishing returns as capacity expands. I mean as a completely non-technical example, having two discs of a smaller capacity is going to give you a lot more value than having two discs of a much larger capacity. You don’t really need that much space. Maybe in the past you needed two 250gb hard drives if that was the max capacity. These days, you usually don’t buy four 250gb hard drives if you want 1TB, you buy the whole thing at once because it’s cheaper to manufacture and produce and it’s also more convenient for the end-user.

  • bloodiOS

I am a bit bored, which somehow urges me to ask you all a boorish question:
Between the LORE of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, which one appealed to you more?
UP-VOTE for Demon’s Souls and DOWN-VOTE for Dark Souls, no explanation needed but feel free to share your opinion, if you want to.

    • shogunknight

Huh? ……what kind of question is this???……. I cant answer this, i really love them both and i wont mind sequels to both. Ill Up-Down Vote you for this

Edit: I cant do both, darn you disqus

    • GhostNomad

Upvoting because while I did enjoy both of those games, I enjoyed Demon’s Souls’ lore a bit more. Can’t really put it into words because I can’t exactly say WHAT made it slightly more interesting outside of the fact that Dark Souls’ freedom and openness actually made it slightly less appealing because I didn’t know where to start and just kinda got killed a lot >.>

Sure I didn’t put the kind of time and dedication toward it like I did with Demon’s Souls, but that’s my opinion so far!

Also, I can’t downvote you even if I tried, so Demon’s Souls it is!

    • Budgiecat

I prefer the lore of Berserk!

    • adhesive

Definitely prefer Demon’s Souls myself. Despite the areas being completely different, they felt completely connected and made logical sense. Dark Souls was good, but a lot of the races feel shoehorned and out of place.

Also, I feel that the focus of Demon’s Souls (what constitutes a demon) was much more compelling than Dark Souls(will you let the fire die out) by far.

  • http://twitter.com/kazumalynx Zero

Well then. I feel like I should post a response here.

First things first, I feel pretty awful about what happened in here earlier.

I’ve had a very busy week. I’ve been helping out a real life friend who was hit with a whirlwind of crap more or less.

He lost his job, ran into serious family complications, and lost his home all in the last two months or so. I’m not going to get into detail here. He lived about 5 hours away and I worked out a way to go down and move him close to me. A good friend of mine, along with myself, have been helping him start over here.

It’s been a bumpy ride, but things are looking up all around. I’ve been keeping up with things on Gematsu during this period. I decided to take a bit of a break this weekend.

I decided to marathon some anime series I had yet to watch with my friend. We also went out and watched a movie & had dinner with some of my other friends. I think it really helped us both… Just to sit back and relax. =)

I was finishing up some anime with my friend when the “drama” occurred in here. I feel bad for missing it, not being here, but I’m not sure I could have done anything.

I’ve spent the last few hours reading all the comments. I’m really surprised at how it all turned out. The bottom line is – This website is ran by Sal. We have basic guidelines we ask that everyone follows. My role is to try and keep our community here healthy and happy. At the same time, I discuss things with Sal all the time, we are good friends and on the same page.

We both want what is best for Gematsu.

I wish those who were banned the best of luck. I think they understand why they were banned. It’s not something we do very often here, ban users. It’s a shame it had to come to that. I apologize to anyone who was bothered by all of this. I’m not sure there is anything else I can say, so… I’ll move on.

I got delayed with my open forum giveaway results. I will have the results up before Sunday is over for me. Sorry about the delays.

(If you wanted to know – The anime series we watched were Sword Art Online and Steins;Gate. I really enjoyed both of them! I know, I know. I can’t believe it took me this long to finish both series either! I hope I can continue to watch series from my anime backlog!)

I need to sleep. Have a great day!

    • bloodiOS

Man, I have seen a similar case happening many years ago to a relative on my father’s side (back in my home country.) He decided to move out of his parent house after university, to this who-knows-where place for a job opportunity and as it turned out, all kind of craps poured down on him. I’m not sure what, but the gist of it is that he felt ashamed of his own failure and never contacted the family for a whole year and just spent his days withering away with alcohol, until my uncle finally tracked him down. At this point, he was only getting by through doing some shady labor while camping out in some tent. My uncle convinced him to get back to the family, to rest up so that he can finally start over.

It really sucks when that kind of stuffs happen, especially when one is alone, so it’s nice of you and your friend to be there and help the guy gets back on his feet. I sincerely hope things will turn out better for him soon.

    • Gigus
    • $18114340

I don’t think they understand why they were banned. Sal asked them to stop with no threat of reprimanding action. They didn’t, which indicates that they clearly didn’t care or didn’t see why they were being asked to stop.

The fact that such an idiotic conversation dragged on so long and that other users were baited into a confrontation shows that the community didn’t exactly do much to help.

If you see shit like this? You ignore it and let the mods deal with it.

    • DrForbidden

I hope your friend manages to get back on his feet soon, Zero. It sounds like he’s had a really rough time.

    • PrinceHeir

best of luck to you and your friend!

    • Ikpoepopdezesite

ilovegoogleglass and his poor minded associates are just here to spam their own poor website. Plus he’s associated with the mother of all trolls: Hypertallih, who led him to believe some schmuck from Major Nelson’s blog was stalking them when they couldn’t be more wrong.
That dude got brutaly attacked and stalked for nothing the other day.
They’re truly a sad bunch and it’s well deserved ban for them! Thank you!

Just a reminder for North American subscribers of PlayStation Plus, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen and Soul Sacrifice, among other titles, will hit the Instant Game Collection sometimes this month. I personally think this deal is amazing, I have always waited for the price to drop so I can buy them but this is really wonderful, makes me really value the benefit of being a Plus subscriber.

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2013/10/31/playstation-plus-november-preview/

    • GhostNomad

I’ve been really in the mood for Dragon’s Dogma lately and it’s almost as if they read my mind! Now I just need Revengeance next month and my soul is complete <3

    • new_tradition

*raises hand* I have potentially dumb questions. Never used Plus, so I’ve been confused for a little while…

If you get any of the game during the free period, delete it later, can you still get it again for free if there’s a price on it again?

Also, if you decide not to subscribe to Plus for a few months, does that automatically terminate your PS+ account? Like, can you play free games after DLing them without an active Plus account?

      Thanks~

      • bloodiOS

You would have to browse your Download List if you want to download it again. You can take a break and resubscribe again the next month or even next YEAR and it wouldn’t matter, but be aware that the “free-for-Plus” contents will only work when you’re an active Plus member, they would be inaccessible otherwise.

    • PrinceHeir

yes definitely downloading it next week!

  • Gigus

Anyone playing Pokemon x and y? Lately, I have been seeing a lot videos of the game and I’m really interested in jumping back in. Its been awhile since I played a Pokemon game and it was with the original 4.

    • McPoo

It’s a lot better than the previous games. Much quicker and streamlined.

That said, the same problem of feeling bored kicks in about half way. That may just be a problem I’ve got with the formula now though.

      • Gigus

It is repetitive. I guess only hardcore trainers are that interested. I remember playing the 4 original red, blue, green and yellow and they were awesome. I only continued playing cause I wanted to catch them all of course XD.

When they announced the Johto League I was excited about the new species that were in the game. After catching all the Johto region’s pokemon, I stopped. I didn’t even bother finishing.

The 2nd paragraph is for general audience XD. Only my 1rst sentence was for you.

  • Gigus

I have had a huge amount of free time lately, so I decided to play some games and watch some anime.

Games I’ve bought/played recently DMC: Devil May Cry. My first impressions are wow. Just wow. I was liking the intro and the combat until I finally met Vergil. Since they already explained that Dante had “amnesia” I was hoping for some kind “shock” or “snarky” reaction when he finally meets his twin brother but nothing. No reaction at all. I was expecting him to say classic Dante stuff like, “Hey! Who is this clown?! Why does he look like me?! Is this some kind of sick joke?!”, or “Am I supposed to be surprised that I have a number one fan who looks like me”. But nope. What was ninja theory thinking knowing that they have an amazing track record with their writing. I have not played Heavenly Sword or Enslaved but from the reviews I’ve read, they all said they had exceptional writing. I know its a bit early for me to judge but I’m just baffled that he did not have a reaction to his twin brother at all. I will try to be patient with this game but if the dialogue keeps going on like this, I may have wasted 12 bucks lol.

Animes/manga I’m reading and watching are Naruto and soul eater. Naruto is already at the very end. So far the story hasn’t been really engaging its readers but I’m just reading it to finish the manga.
Also I just started watching Soul Eater. Its pretty good and I’m liking the dubbed version. They had a couple of odd fillers but they were still enjoyable and really funny. Just finished watching the excalibur arcs and its hilarious.

    What are you guys playing/watching?

    • $18114340

Yeah the person who wrote DmC gave me the impression that they had never played a Devil May Cry game at all before. If I recall correctly, the person who wrote Heavenly Sword and Enslaved did not work on DmC.

    • GhostNomad

      WORD OF WARNING!

My opinion on DmC isn’t exactly positive, but don’t get the wrong idea. Just because I don’t like the game doesn’t mean I want you to stop enjoying it and see things my way. If you like it, awesome. If you love it, even better!

That said, it is now safe to read on :D

I’m a bit of a fanboy when it comes to the original DMC so the reboot rubbed me the wrong way from the start. Eventually the demo came out, I played it, didn’t find the combat appealing or even remotely challenging. Then the full game was released and my girlfriend at the time (who’d been gushing over the Dante redesign so much that she went out of her way to roleplay as him on several websites) bought it in a heartbeat so I sat through the whole game with her and played a few parts here and there.

Overall, the music was extremely forgettable, the color coded enemies were the only thing keeping the combat just above the point of so uninteresting that I’d be able to do just as good by tapping the controller with my foot while browsing the internet, and the story was ridiculous even by Capcom standards (not really a big factor though since DMC and RE both had laughable stories but that didn’t make the games any less fun).

However, the biggest issue with the reboot’s storyline was that it was trying to take itself so seriously and the social commentary was about as subtle as a freight train driving at full speed through a hospital’s quiet zone. To be fair, some of the level designs were interesting, so it wasn’t all bad. I also have a big problem with the game’s ending but that’d spoil it for you so I’m keeping that one to myself until further notice.

This review is pretty relevant to my opinion on DmC (and Yahtzee is fucking awesome regardless) so it’s worth a watch :P

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kowAddykKOk

      To answer your questions!

I’m getting back into Kingdom Hearts 1.5HD Remix. I have a very large stack of games that I’ve started over the last few years and never finished, so I’m making that happen one step at a time >.>

No anime at the moment, though I do have quite a few lined up, and I’m focusing on some complete manga (in this case, Kekkaishi). I made a list of probably around 100+ things I wanted to read so I figured the easiest way to wither that list down so I wouldn’t have to keep track of so much going on across different stories would be to read all of the ones that are already done!

I’d started Kekkaishi maybe two or three years ago. During my deployments, my best friend would send me manga to read and that’s how I got into Kekkaishi. Got up to volume 20 when I stopped (came home by that point and got carried away with other things) but the manga really hooked me so I’d been meaning to finish it ever since. Finally making that happen!

      • Gigus

        nvm

        • GhostNomad

I saw your (currently ‘nvm’) post earlier and couldn’t respond until now, but yes, I read it and I understood that the game was starting to lose you, but I also understood that you haven’t finished it and for all you (or I) know, it may turn out to be excellent in your opinion once you play it through :P As such I chose to make it known that I wasn’t trying to force my opinion on you just in case you did end up liking it.

And the first paragraph was more or less just to clarify that I don’t insist everyone’s opinion be just like mine just in case someone who loves the game tried to respond to my post saying it’s just full of fanboy hate and I don’t understand the game because I’m not cool enough for it or some shit like that. I’ve been on GameFAQs all too long, and people there just love to make up facts so I’m used to making things nice and clear from the start! No offense taken :D

          • Gigus

No, I understand you. But I mainly edited my post because someone said I was being rude when I replied in the same manner. With me you don’t have to make assumptions to save your own neck. I think I know you well enough, Mr. stripper who likes to grind on people who don’t want your attention XD.

To be honest, I never liked the series all too much till dante’s awakening. DMC 3 was such a fun and challenging game. I liked it a lot cause it found a balance for such an arrogant, annoying character with its story. DMC3 actually made me like Dante. DMC 2 and 4 I hated cause the story wasn’t engaging and 4 felt like a rinse, wash and repeate but use different soap with its story and characters. The only thing I actually liked from the series if I didn’t like 3 would be the combat. Its ridiculously fun. I’ll give a full input without being vague next open forum.

According to Eurogamer, the size of the PC version of Battlefield 4 is around 24GB, which means that the PS4 and XBO version are probably the same. So, really, how in the world did BF4 manage to occupy half the size of COD:G while looking (at least) twice as good?

    • GhostNomad

That’s what I’ve been wondering since the last Open Forum. I preordered BF4 on PC and it was only 28GB once installed and all. If that size is comparable to the next gen versions then are the other games just awfully optimized or is BF4 also freaking huge on consoles and it’s also a part of the 40GB family? If it’s the latter, then I’m guessing either devs were in a hurry to make the next gen versions and couldn’t take the proper time to optimize or maybe the new consoles are off to a slightly bumpy start until devs figure out how to make more size-efficient games :P

      • bloodiOS

I don’t know, man. But the Spanish version of COD:G leaked on Neogaf stated to require a 49GB of minimum storage space on the PS4, I call that BS on Infinity Ward’s part! No matter how big the PS4 and XBO version of BF4 might be, I’m not seeing them breaking 30GB.

  • bloodiOS

I just bought DmC: Devil May Cry ($13.99) with the prize money. Now I will finally be able to find out why ELSE do I dislike it so much, aside from my absolute disdain for Ninja Theory.

    • $18114340

Because the combat is brain-dead mashy? Because the game looks nice in motion but is otherwise an unresponsive mess to play? Because the writing is absolutely abhorrent and a blight on the entire medium? Because the game completely disrespects its predecessors and source material? Because the narrative is ham-fisted, shallow, self-contradicting, and completely idiotic? Because of the compulsory no-effort-required platforming segments that double as extended cutscenes and make the game even more of a chore to slog through than it already is? Because it’s clear that Ninja Theory had absolutely no intentions of actually making a Devil May Cry game, and made something entirely different instead, but insisted that it was a DMC game anyway? Because it’s generally a mediocre action title, especially in comparison to its contemporaries such as Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, and the Devil May Cry series itself? Because for all the triumphant bragging that came from its developers, the game brings nothing new to the table and even fails to implement basic mechanics well? Because it makes DMC2 look good?

Well, the environmental design is nice, kind of.

      • bloodiOS

I’ll judge the story and the gameplay in their entirety after I’ve played the game itself but just playing through the demo already highlighted a few problems that pissed me off. I disliked the fact that opposed to DMC4, this one operates at 30fps. But that’s not the worst part, I hated that, despite aiming for 30fps and tore like there’s no tomorrow, the frame rate still managed to dip well below the target quite often. DMC4’s performance was a superbly smooth 60fps without any screen-tearing in the PS3 version, so the difference between it and DmC is simply infuriating. And I seriously, SERIOUSLY hate it when devs don’t make use of the storage of capacity of Blu-ray Disc and simply throws in the same set of heavily compressed FMV that were used in the Xbox 360 version. It boils my blood seeing the macroblocking artifacts popping up on the screen, knowing that more than 15GB of storage space just sitting there not being put to good use.

        • $18114340

Yeah, the 30fps limit really bothered me too. It’s not that a game can’t feel responsive at 30fps, but DmC routinely DOES NOT, and it can’t even meet its target frame rate consistently. Why not? Probably because of the various superficial details in the environments that add absolutely nothing to the game, and probably because Ninja Theory couldn’t optimize a game if they tried. See: Enslaved.

Ninja Theory is primarily concerned with creating theatrical experiences. DmC reflects this; it is not a game that plays particularly well, which is damning considering its heritage. It’s not responsive, it’s not satisfying or rewarding, and there is very little “game” to it. It’s an autopilot cutscene-fest that plays like God of War on the lowest difficulty setting. Most of the product is concerned with visual spectacle and what little game that is actually there suffers for it.

In particular, the use of FMV is jarring, because it shows laziness on the developer’s part. I remember playing Bulletstorm’s PC port and asking why, why are there FMV cutscenes when the scenes use in-game assets anyway? It really looks terrible and lazy.

    • GhostNomad

Can’t type out the response I’d like to since I’m mobile at the moment, but go down in the earlier posts and you’ll find a video in my previous comment about DmC. I feel you should watch that :D

  • McPoo

Anyone getting Young Justice: Legacy this month?

It doesn’t look great, but I recently watch the show and thought it was fantastic so feel like I should give the game a go too.

Plus it’s only twenty quid, so won’t break the bank.

    • new_tradition

That’s basically how I feel about it; I’m getting the game for the story more than anything else.

That said, I’ve been buying a lot of games brand new and then never play them within a reasonable amount of time. For this game, I’ll wait on it. If anything, I’ll know which version to get by then *shrugs*

      • McPoo

I think I’ll see how the reviews are. If they’re adequate then I’ll happily pay twenty quid for it. At the very least it’ll be something entertaining to play co-op with my girlfriend after we’ve done Lego Marvel.

If it’s supposedly a bad game though then I’ll wait till it’s half that price or less. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised though.

    • Gigus

I loved the show but I hate that Cartoon Network and DC cut it short to replace it with a children’s cartoon that will rot their brains. I’m still peeved they ruined teen titans as well.

      • McPoo

I only discovered the show a few weeks ago, worked my way through both series then found out it had been cancelled.

It’s a shame, it was surprisingly mature for a kids show. The game’s written by the shows writers so I’m really looking forward to the story it tells.

        • Gigus

Oooh! Thats interesting. The show is a bit much for kids but they need to know teenagers (13 and up) and adults watch it too. It would have been perfect if they showed stuff like this at 9 and continue on to toonami. Missed oppurtunity.

          • McPoo

Yeah, the story is the main reason I’m interested in it. It’s got all the original voice cast too, so I imagine it’ll feel really authentic :) Hoping the cutscenes are animated in the same way as the cartoon, but that’s probably a wish too far.

The gameplay itself doesn’t look terrible. Like I mentioned above I think it might be quite fun on co-op. They’ve gone to the effort of making it 3 player couch and online co-op too, which is good of them. As long as the combat’s enjoyable and the supermoves are fun to watch and use, I’ll be happy.

            • Gigus

Nice. I’m kinda confused to why only 3 player co-op. Should have went the extra stretch and did four. If the gameplay is anything like the original X-men legends game, I think the game will do fairly well.

      • Elvick

        Teen Titans Go is ridiculous.

The shouldn’t have brought back the original voice actors for it, then it wouldn’t be such a slap in the face.

I mean, if they didn’t go through the effort to re-create the characters with the same voices, then I could easily just be like “whatever”. But it’s so close to just being a real revival it’s sad.

All they would have needed was a non-shitty focus for the show.

        • McPoo

How come it’s so bad? I’ve never seen either Teen Titans show.

I’m currently working through various DC animated films and tv shows. I find a lot of them to be really well made. I’m going through Batman Beyond at the moment and am really enjoying it.

        • Gigus

They’re just doing it for the views. I really do not know who to blame on it but it is truly sad, like you said. Would have been a perfect fit if they fit it in toonami’s network. Oh well.

    • Budgiecat

No a fan of Diablo/Marvel Alliance clones.

      • McPoo

It looks more MA2, than MA1 which is a bit of a shame.

How come you don’t like those types of game?

  • bloodiOS

So, I’m curious, but is there anyone currently using one of these for your PS3 (and also planning to use one for your future PS4)?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEpTmjn6z4I&hd=1

    • Gigus

I explained this to two people before in an article Sal posted a while ago. Sadly for those who are using an SSD or SSHD (whatever you wanna call it) are not getting the full capabilities and perfomance of the SSD. The ps3 has a max read in cache and speed. It does give the ps3 speed but not really a huge significant. SSDs only helped games with huge installs and textures such as Rage and Skyrim. If you installed Infamous 2 on a normal hard drive and SSD the only difference is the load times and its by a small margin. Just read digital foundry’s analysis about using an ssd on a current gen system.

      http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-can-ssd-upgrades-boost-ps3-performance

Since the ps4 is coming out an SSD would be a perfect hard drive for the ps4. It’ll really help with huge amount of content that will be on the ps4 and such features as the download and play, recording, and accessing your content. SSDs also have a feature called TRIMM. Before I get carried away with computer Jargon. I’ll just post a link for you that explain why SSDs will be benefical for the ps4.

      http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/169598-the-great-ps4-vs-xbox-one-storage-debate-is-500gb-really-enough-for-new-games

      • bloodiOS

Oh, I know that, but the problem is that SSD is generally too expensive at the moment, especially when one is planning to get a drive with decent storage space. And since I’m not seeing anything above 7200rpm for laptop HDD, the SSHD certainly seems like an attractive option.

        • Gigus

For the ps3 the ssd and sshd wouldn’t be a perfect choice for it. For the ps4, you can use either because the ps4 is using a sata 3 interface now so both would be beneficial.

          • bloodiOS

For PS3, I perceived a slightly superior performance in comparison to regular HDD though, and since its price certainly is well within reach, I don’t see why not. But of course, that was before the announcement of PS4 though. Right now, there really isn’t any point in upgrading the PS3’s storage drive.

            • Gigus

Oh I remember now! We had a similar conversation before when you were backing up your ps3 but then the power went out. That is you right?

if you are gonna change your ps4s harddrive though, I suggest you wait. There is chance an SSD will drop price. Its been happening more often.

              • bloodiOS

Nah, I had the 2nd generation of Seagate’s SSHD even before my backward compatible PS3 died. I certainly am not looking to upgrade any further though because it’s slow and painful -___-

                • Gigus

We don’t know for sure how long the backup, format, restore, and tranfer of the ps4 is. With what people are saying about whats in the box, PC like architecture and sata 3 interface, it might be significantly faster and less of a hassle to change the hard drive. Like I always say, “wait till an official video comes out”.

                  • bloodiOS

Oh, I was referring to the PS3 when I was talking about backing up and replacing storage drive xD

For the PS4, I’m actually gonna wait till Seagate introduces new models of SSHD with higher amount of NAND flash available before upgrading, either that or SSD getting price drop, whichever comes first. I’m not getting a PS4 yet anyway.

                    • Gigus

I’m pretty sure everyone will focus on SSD already if they’re thinking about how they can better SSHD technology XD I could be wrong lol

          • LordKaiser

Well I’ve heard that some people had some problems with certain games running with SSD so IDK but it’s a waste to waste money on it for a antiquated interface.

            • Gigus

yeah SSDs aren’t perfect yet and it also depends on what brand. Thats why I haven’t jumped ship yet from regular HDD to SSD, or SSHD. Im gonna wait on DF’s analysis or computerbilds.

      • LordKaiser

If the interface is SATA III it would help more with SSD. this is how much that SSHD costs.

        http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178381

        • Gigus

I can’t remember what the article fully said but I’m pretty sure the SSD will help more than a hybrid drive. My short term memory sucks lol

  • bloodiOS

PC gamers, I’m just curious but in your opinion, (with everything else aside) how much RAM do you estimate would be required to optimally run a pixel perfect game at 8K resolution.

    • Gigus

I wish I can fully answer your question but I haven’t built a gaming rig that can do 8k resolution. But its not all about RAM that’ll help you get that kind of resolution. You gotta consider the graphics card and the CPU. If you don’t have a perfect combination of the 3, you won’t get the perfect 8k resolution you want. But seriously? 8k? I don’t think 8k will help me see better XD.

      • bloodiOS

Well, that’s why I said “with everything else aside” ;)

        • Gigus

*points at lord Kasier* look at his post he beat me to it. Even though you said “everything else aside” you still need to consider the 3 XD.

          • bloodiOS

Well, I thought it would be to first figure out how much RAM one would need to display all the assets in a pixel perfect manner before considering how to maintain that image quality at optimal performance. Sure you still need to consider all the factors in the end but when you start looking at things to list out on the white sheet of paper, wouldn’t the amount of RAM be the first thing to consider?

            • Gigus

No, that would be the wrong way to look at things in my opinion. Thats like having a fast car but no one to drive it. You can look at it from that perspective but you immediately have to look for cpu and mobo that would accept the ram.

lord kaiser can correct me and I have no problem with that XD

              • bloodiOS

                Hm… certainly is complicated…

                • Gigus

There are a ton of guides online that can help figure out on how to build a computer and how you should approach a build. Its hard and confusing at first but it pays off at the end. Generally I always go mobo, cpu, ram, graphics card, hard drive and power supply. If you need more help I suggest asking LordKaiser. I think hes more experienced than I am XD

                  • bloodiOS

Nah, that’s alright, I’m not planning on moving to PC gaming anytime soon. I’m just asking mostly out of curiosity is all =)

                    • Gigus

So technically you just wasted my time? BLOODIOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kidding XD You’ll jump into the dark side soon enough.

                    • bloodiOS

Only if Atlus, Square Enix, Namco Bandai, and other Japanese publishers shift their JRPG focus to PC ;)

                    • Gigus

Meh whatever floats your boat. The only reason why I stick to PC is because thats where my line of work is and its fun. I also get to see what next gen consoles will be like using a pc. Just wait another two years. The gap between consoles and PC will widen again.

                    • bloodiOS

That would be within my expectation, not that I mind =)

                    • Gigus

Who wouldn’t? Humans are always cursious about the future. PCs being able to let gamers see what the future of gaming holds is awesome

                    • bloodiOS

It certainly is awesome, but at the end of the day, it only affects those who truly value superb image quality and performance, it wouldn’t matter much to the mass. Not for those who are still gaming on the PS3 using composite cables…

            • LordKaiser

It all depends on the texture size that will be used etc. The programmers tweak with the RAM till they get it right but many times they keep documentations about these stuff and use it as a guideline so most of the time they will know how much RAM they will use when using certain textures, physics engine etc. etc.

many programmers knows a lot about hardware even more than me many times. I was never good at programming tbh but it surely would help me to understand some things more…

    • LordKaiser

Depends how it’s programmed and how the programmer want the game to use the PC memory. 6GB should be more than enough… IDK tbh.

      • Gigus

You could be right but I don’t know either XD. I have to consider the other two components because the cpu, ram and graphics card work in tandem. Its a force of habit.

  • bloodiOS

I sure am curious today xD
Anyway, since the PS4 and XBO are both based on x86, do you think they’ll get hacked much earlier than their predecessors?

    • Gigus

Oooh, good question. Maybe. It also depends on what their OS system is based on. Like before the ps3 had linux based type of OS system and it took awhile to hack. If the ps4 has nearly the same type of OS and the X1 has a more windows 8 type of OS, it’ll pretty much be the same as last gen.

    • shogunknight

Probably, depends though. If you mean hacked as in play pirated games, I think it would be the XBO before the PS4, its probably the closest to a widely known OS (Windows) than the other. If not the 1st, then it may be the easiest in terms of use

  • bloodiOS

Okay, people, tell me, what is the most bizarre food that you have ever eaten?

    • Kobracon

      There was this….thing called a….ham…burger I think….

I’ve never seen it before and it was utterly bizarre. It was like a pastry but there was this big piece of meat stuffed in the middle with some vegetables on top. I was not used to seeing that in my country.

It was quite tasty, I hope other countries get to try this rare and bizarre morsel.

      • Gigus

This ham burger. It sounds very intoresting. I may try it one day.

On a serious note: You said you are a video game programmer? I used to minor in programming. Unfortunately, I’ve been focusing more on IT stuff and I completely forgot how to program. What books or tutorials do you recommend for programming in C++, C#, and Java for dummies like me? I really wanna get back into programming :/

        Thanks in advance!

        • Kobracon

Well I like to think myself more a Game Designer but I did plan to get there through game programming. As for books or tutorials, I never really used any books. I recall back in University, I didn’t have any books XD.

I just used alot of tutorials that I googled. There are alot and most of them good. You can go specific too and look for game programming tutorials. Like how to make a Platformer with C++ or Java or something like that.

Don’t forget youtube as well, there are surprising amounts of good programming tutorials in video form.

All I can say is, keep programming. When you stop for a while, you get really rusty (as I am :P). Also if its Game Programming specifically that you want to try, give the language called Monkey a try. It has its own tutorials in its library and its quite naturally written.

          • Gigus

Thanks! I really appreciate it. I’m mostly in IT, the robot everyone calls when the system fails XD. I’m just trying to expand on my profession. I have graduated also but I don’t wanna stay in one place very long (I only have my associates….. got tired of school). I’m also expanding in graphical art. Not sure if you’ve seen my previous art post but anyways…….. I didn’t have that many books either. Everything was through tutorial vids and google.

I will take your advice and start googling. Thanks! Hopefully you find a job soon. I know how that feels -__-.

            • Kobracon

Thanks. I hope I get my missing 2 months of pay soon first….

              • Gigus

                I hope you do.

i finished all my tests last week (with French being the only one that i think i’ll do bad in) i know that feeling.

Whiskey and adult-oriented websites usually do it for me! Either that or some time in the gym since whiskey and internet aren’t easily available sometimes :D

          • bloodiOS

Please, those will make me fall asleep, only to wake up with less time to study and twice the amount of anxiety.

            • GhostNomad

Just don’t stress yourself out during your studying. That’s only gonna make things more difficult. Reward yourself with whiskey and special websites after the studies!

I learned how to survive on two hours a night during my time in college. With the military that got broken up into naps that could be anywhere from 2-20 minutes and that’s about it! Granted, I got to rack out real good once or twice a week so that was awesome :D

so to anyone that has played Beyond, what are your thoughts? please no spoilers. i personally loved Heavy Rain alot, so i’am hoping for Beyond to be at least as good

    • Budgiecat

I liked it better than Heavy Rain. Better acting, better story, better graphics, better gameplay, no more hold R2 to move your character, less obtrusive QTE’s. Only drawback is no nudity in the shower scenes and less drastic of story changing gameplay choices

    • DrForbidden

Technically, the game is very impressive indeed. The acting is really good.

Plotwise, very cliched with unoriginal themes.

Overall presentation of the game I thought was pretty good. Don’t expect anything groundbreaking in terms of gameplay or story direction, though.

    • Elvick

I loved it. I think it’s one of the best games I’ve played this year (Granted I haven’t played too many multiplatform games, minus Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite).

  • bloodiOS

How many games actually have an engaging closing credits (not post-credits)? Take Shadow of The Colossus for example, it actually has an event going on while the credits are rolling, which really helps grab my attention. Because otherwise, I would just be sitting there begging for the credits to roll faster, so the post-credits event (assuming that there is one) can be viewed sooner.

    • $18114340

Devil May Cry 3 stands to me as having one of the most memorable closing credits sequences. While the credits roll, you’re still in a playable segment that takes place directly after the ending. You get to beat the crap out of demons, and then post-credits, there’s a short epilogue that bridges the gap nicely between DMC3 and its chronological sequels. Everything is neatly tied up and it all makes sense, as ridiculous as the events might be when taken individually.

I remember when DmC was being hyped up pre-release (I’ll stop complaining about this game soon, I promise), people were talking about how nobody plays DMC for the story, and how Ninja Theory would change all that… honestly, I think grand, sweeping and “meaningful” narratives are overhyped. The DMC universe was lovingly well-crafted, and that’s really what matters.

      • GhostNomad

DMC3 was the first thing that came to mind, honestly.

And remember when they were hyping up DmC’s story as Shakespearean? That was pure entertainment.

    • Budgiecat

Street Fighter EX III. You play a beat em up through the cut scenes

      • Fainaru Luna

I miss playing street fighter ex 3! Really like its momentary/tag combos and had lots of fun playing that game on a side note highest score I got in the end credits was 116 if i remember correctly.

    • MrFinalgamer

well i liked the KH2 credits back when i beat the game in 06. also the credits on KH3D were really entertaining. the one for Persona 3 had me tearing up. also liked the one on Flower

Thanks to @gematsu-88cf91a1aef212f3c2cd12406983427d:disqus for showing me qwertee, I was able to download a very nice t-shirt template. This is going to help me out alot more when designing tees. After playing around with it more with some of the current designs i’ve made………. I really need to adjust them all. Well, back to square one.

    • MrFinalgamer

good luck man! really liked your designs from earlier so i my guess is that you can make something better with those tools!

      • Gigus

Thanks! *grumbles* everyone starts from scratch anyways. WAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • McPoo

Wow it looks great seeing it on a t-shirt!

      • Gigus

After I’m done tweaking the design, I’ll submit it to Qwertee. It seems like my design has a better chance there since its more user based rather than artist/staff based. The staff at qwertee still has a say in it though. My design has been at ript over ten days already and I’m thinking it won’t make it through. I find it weird that at the end of every letter they send me, they keep asking me to join their artist group. When I actually do request for membership, it never gets approved XD.

Another thing I’ve noticed with these shirt sites is the shirt designs/mashups are very common. I rarely see anything more around the nerd realm that I know of. Anyways…. I rarely do request but I think this will help better my chances at getting a shirt printed. What would you like to see on a nerd shirt you would buy?

  • DrForbidden

Started playing Assassin’s Creed IV over the weekend, though I had no intention of even purchasing the game prior to launch. I’m quite impressed by it so far, though I don’t like Edward half as much as Ezio. Aside from being an AC game on land, this is the pirate game on high seas that I’ve been waiting for…

  • $18114340

I just bought Doom 3: BFG Edition in the PSN sale for $10. As a longtime Doom fan, I made this purchase with the full knowledge that this version of the game was a pretty sloppy, half-assed port rife with game-breaking glitches and compromises, and that the PS3 version in particular is woefully technically inadequate in comparison to just about every other version of the game (including the original Xbox port). It doesn’t even have co-op, much less split-screen.

I am feeling ambivalent about BFG Edition. On the one hand, it’s really nice to be able to play Doom 3 again in widescreen. On the other hand, the original PC version still trumps BFG in every single way, the controls are pretty terrible, and it’s really pathetic how Bethesda and id are completely out-done on a technical level by user-made modifications. Still, I’ve been itching to play a console shooter for some time now and considering how well the game has aged, as well as my disdain for the contrivances and conventions of modern shooters, I’m left feeling pretty satisfied. I’ve done more (relatively) uninterrupted shooting in a few hours of play than I probably would have been able to do over the course of the entire campaign in a lot of modern shooters (looking at you, Killzone 3 and your stupid turret sections where I don’t even have to shoot anything).

Still, I can’t help but feel that id Soft and Beth really don’t care about Doom or its legacy anymore. And while I know it’s impossible to happen, the property would be better off in the hands of a company like Interceptor Entertainment. They’re so dedicated towards the source material that they even implement the same glitches from 1995:

    http://youtu.be/iQnRHu9mrX4

    • PrinceHeir

      wow what a price!!

      might get it.

what did they changed from the original version to BFG?

      • $18114340

Here are some of the changes:

        http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_3_BFG_Edition

Keep in mind that the PS3 BFG Edition is, technically, the worst way to play the game. I bought it because it was cheap and I just got a PS3. The PS3 version exhibits performance issues such as screen tearing and long load times that aren’t present in the 360 version. The original Xbox version is also superior in terms of features, and the original PC version is still the definitive version and the best way to play the game.

Also, BFG Edition has been “rebalanced” to be stupidly easy compared to the original. You will probably never run out of ammo or even come close to dying on the default difficulty.

late to reply but… this game looks awesome!
Wait a minute… Tetsuya Nomura designed Ricardo and Sakura with practical and somewhat normal looking clothes?

      • bloodiOS

Wait, Nomura’s the character designer of this game? I never knew that.

        • futuristic_imagination

Yeah caught me off guard… I had to make sure it was him.

The character designer for Ricardo Martini and Ayanokoji Sakura is Tetsuya Nomura.

The character designer for and Suo Tsukasa and Tendoji Sarah is Akiman (Akira Yasuda)

          • bloodiOS

Well, in any case, it wouldn’t be the first, seeing how the characters from FFXV do wear somewhat normal looking clothes.

So I’ve been looking to get into the hyperdimension neptunia games. but the psn store only offers mk2 (the second one, I believe) and can’t find any of these games at retail.. you guys seem to know more about these games, so question now is: do I miss out on important stuff if I were to begin at mk2?

    • Elvick

Well, if you have a PS Vita, then you may as well wait for Re:birth 1. It’s basically a remake of the first one. The first game is kind of bad, especially compared to mk2 and on.

Odds are that NISA will bring that over, since they got PP (an idol game for PS Vita).

There’s also an anime. FUNimation has it streaming on their site with subs already.

January at CES is when we can expect to see more of these machines.

Completely fudging around now. Might take a break from drawing. Completely brain farting everything I’m doing XD

    • MrFinalgamer

can’t believe you made Cole look adorable XD

      • Gigus

Thanks! After playing inFamous 2, I remembered he showed a soft hearted version of himself. It was the scene where he shared a brewski with his only pal zeke. It wasn’t hard to do XD. I just made hello kitty human and threw on his appearance as much as possible. The scene just made me think of a “what if” moment. In this case, “What if Cole became adorable?” XD

After I’m done taking a short break, I’ll be submitting all of my rejected designs to Qwertee instead. Hopefully it’ll get a better chance there since the shirts are more user selected.
Again, thanks for the huge amount of support you and the rest have given me. It really, really helps.

p.s. I noticed I write too many long replies. must explain why no one replies back XD.

    • McPoo

I don’t think much of InFamous or Cole McGrath.

That said, that t-shirt is AWESOME!

To answer yesterdays question about what sort of thing I’d buy:

      – Pokemon
      – Game of Thrones
      – Most things with DC superheroes on
      – Zelda stuff
      – I like stuff branded with in game brands, like Nuka Cola from Fallout etc

      • Gigus

Ugh… your gonna be a tough sell once I start posting XD. Artist name might be the same thing I’ve always been going with which is bard fenrir. Check me out and see if my designs will fancy your taste XD. The only reason why I said you’ll be a tough sell is because those themes are common already for a T-shirt design. Anyways, your support is greatly appreciated. I cannot stress that enough. Its been really helpful enough. Hopefully if I do get at least one shirt printed, I may give one away. Hopefully XD.

        • McPoo

Yeah I often see stuff on Qwertee that I think “hmm, that’s alright”. A lot of the time though I like the theme or the idea, but not the execution.

Is that your user name on Qwertee? I can’t actually find a way to search artists >.>

          • Gigus

Yeah, you can’t really search an artist’s name but you guys will know when I post stuff XD. I’ll do my best in the zelda department ;). There’s too many zelda stuff though -__-.

  • futuristic_imagination

So I was looking in the PSN store today and I saw that the DLC (jetstream sam and baldewolf) for Metal gear revengeance is free!

Oh and I got this in the US PSN store. I think its also free in 360 (I don’t have a 360). Not sure if its available in other regions. I Just want to give you guys a heads Up .

Now I got to finish my paper before going back to playing revengeance again!

    • Gigus

Grabbed it also. Hopefully they don’t charge us for their mistake XD. We’re just poor souls who were tempted lol

      • $18114340

It’s not a mistake; today they officially announced that the DLC is now free on all platforms, to coincide with a price drop. If you’d like me to find a source I’ll post one.

        • Gigus

Thats good to hear. Didn’t see your post earlier.

      • futuristic_imagination

Pretty sure its not a mistake. I think Konami did that because they might not re-release a physical copy of the game with the dlc (just a random thought).

If not, its probably a promotion you got to take advantage of! Like how I got VR dlc for free even though I didn’t buy the game on the week it came out.

    • Elvick

      Thanks for the heads up~

    To the mods:

For some odd reason, I can now click on the ‘EDIT’ button for all posts, not just mine. I tested this out, by deleting a period or comma in other peoples’ posts (just for the sake of testing!), but the changes are fortunately not savable. Whew! Scared me for a moment. Still, might be something you guys want to look into, unless this is something that is across the board?

    • futuristic_imagination

I could do the same thing too. But it checked it at other websites that use Disqus, I could see that edit button is over there too.

      • DrForbidden

Ah, so it’s a common thing. That’s good to know. A little strange, though.

        • futuristic_imagination

Yeah sometime Disqus acts kind of weird at times. The “edit” problem was one of those times. Anyways they got it fixed now.

  • GhostNomad

So I just received CoD Ghosts as a gift through Steam…. 28GB to download the SP and another 25GB to download the MP.

    What.
    The.
    Shit.

BF4 was barely 25GB and it’s FAR more visually impressive than CoD. I’m having trouble comprehending this especially after getting off the phone with a friend who’s been playing Ghosts since this morning and says that it feels like they’ve actually cut content.

    • futuristic_imagination

Holy crap thats a huge file size…is this normal? I been out of the PC gaming scene for too long.

      • bloodiOS

Personally, I believe that Ghost is extremely unoptimized.

      • GhostNomad

Just as Bloodios said, it’s just complete ass when it comes to optimization. The gameplay also feels like a huge downgrade, but that’s less about optimization and more about the devs making absolutely horrible choices.

        • futuristic_imagination

At least you got the game for free! There better be a patch to fix those problems for the PC.

    • Kobracon

Wow….tahts huge. Is the single Player….worth anything?

  • GhostNomad

Well, after a couple of hours of playing it, I can officially say that Call of Duty: Ghosts would have been better optimized if a group of monkeys were locked in a room flinging crap at the computers and each other.

The game will not run on anything OTHER than minimum (while Battlefield 4 runs comfortably on High+ (meaning a mix of High and Ultra settings).

Beyond that it’s the typical CoD, jump shots, drop shots, and god awful hit detection being a part of that signature experience.

However, this actually gives me a strange sense of hope. If this game can be SO terribly optimized and work well enough on next gen consoles, I can only imagine the marvelous experiences that devs could deliver once they get their shit together and figure out how to make the best out of everything they have to work with.

Fucking Google needs to fuck off with trying to force YouTube to become a shitty Google+ feature.

I can’t even post comments anymore unless I create a stupid G+ page for my account or attach it to the G+ account I already have (and only have because they force you to have one to rate Android apps)

The desperation is not befitting Google. So fuck off.

    • Luna Kazemaru

      youtube gone hun

    • AdamBoy64

Yes, I remember reading it would happen a while ago. And then yesterday afternoon it changed over here.

It’s absolutely pathetic. I dislike social networking on a whole, and now I’m forced to create an account just for YouTube.

Another thing I’m worried with that is – since I’ve also got a Gmail account, people are going to see I’ve joined Google+ and might start messaging me on it / getting annoyed when I don’t respond. It’s all just a mess.

A complete mess. And a completely unnecessary one. What a joke.

They’re desperate for Google+ to compete with Facebook, by forcing people to sign up. Pretty pathetic.

The saddest part is that Facebook usage is on the decline and it’s probably going to be a dead horse in time itself, too. Google is chasing a pipe dream.

How come the comments got locked for the CoD article? We were all just starting to get along. Me and Budgiecat were going to go pick wild strawberries together.

      you know full well why.

Blocking comments won’t solve anything. At the end of the day, Budgiecat is still a troll, Tetsuya is still overly aggressive and offensive in his posts, and I’m still a bellend.

I reckon the moderation team (lead by Gematsu chief moderator Adam ‘Mandark’ Meadows) should ban the three of us as an example to the rest of you.

“The rest of us” generally know better and the ones who don’t wouldn’t be phased by three regular commenters they probably don’t even know about being banned as an example.

I thought you and I were friends?

I bought Dragon’s Crown for the PSVita from the US because the Vita is not region locked only to find that DLC is region locked only after I bought it! The bad thing about digital content is that you can’t return it…

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way around this? I’ve seen the whole memory card switch thing but if I switch memory cards I won’t be able to carry my save data over…
