Reggie Fils-Aime to appear for the first time.

Nintendo will appear at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, now known as VGX, for the first time this year, Nintendo of America president and chief operating officer teased on last night’s episode of GameTrailers TV.

“We may be making an appearance, we may have something special, we’ll see,” Fils-Aime teased.

According to show host Geoff Keighey, Fils-Aime himself is set to appear.

In other news, on the same episode, it was confirmed a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will also debut at VGX.

Rumor has it that Cliffy B has been working on a new exclusive Wii U title. We’ll see.

    • $18114340

What?? Impossible. I thought everybody even tangentially related to Epic hates Nintendo?

      • SGTMAR

Cliffy is no longer with Epic.Gear of U?

        • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Cliffy working with Tim Schafer is a no

    • Elem187

I’d like to see confirmation… I know Cliffy B is a huge Nintendo fan, so it’s not totally out of the question

Also his latest tweets totally gushing about SM3DW lately.

  • Arla

Might lead to some Bayo2, X or SMTxFE news. Potentially awesome.

    • TetsuyaHikari

Pretty sure Bayonetta 2 got cancelled since Sega has been restructured since the announcement. I guess it’s possible that it was simply postponed to 2015 or something, but yeah… Last I heard, it was canned.

      • Xaltmas

        What are you talking about?

      • Heisst

I’d like to see that source of yours that says it’s canned or even affected at all.

I mean, all it has in relation to Sega is that they own the Bayonetta IP. Nintendo is doing the publishing and PG is doing the development, I don’t see why a Sega restructuration would affect it at all.

        • TetsuyaHikari

Taken from a thread over at Neogaf last year, a month or so after it was announced and Sega began restructuring:

“Some bad news for SEGA fans everywhere – ***** has heard word that
Bayonetta 2 has been cancelled, following the publisher’s ongoing

A source familiar with the situation has told ***** that progress on the
apparent Platinum Games sequel was halted. The game was to include a
new character, in the form of a member of the US military.

While it was not possible to ascertain from our source if Bayonetta 2
had begun development internally, the detail of a potential new
character would suggest that plans were at least in a pre-production
          design stage.

SEGA announced a dramatic restructuring of its Western consumer business
last month, following a dismal performance in the last fiscal year.
Redundancies hit both the European and American offices, and a number of
titles were said to be cancelled internally.

It was feared that Platinum Games’ projects – which have been critically
well-received but have had little success commercially – would be at
risk, with a rumoured sequel to Bayonetta at the top of such a list. The
original game was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in January 2010, to
          critical acclaim.

***** has asked SEGA about the situation, to the response, “No comment.””

EDIT: Oh and there’s also this, which is more recent:

          • TetsuyaHikari

I haven’t heard anything in regards to Bayonetta 2 since this, so I’m going under the assumption that it was cancelled and/or delayed indefinitely.

            • Xaltmas

It was canceled because the last footage seen was two weeks ago.

              • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Sometimes I wonder why people think Neogaf will tell them anything relevant when its full of misinformation

                • Xaltmas

NeoGAF has it’s fair share of insiders, but it’s not infallible.

Stupid shit gets posted there all the time.

                  • Laer_HeiSeiRyuu

Its also an easy target to diseminate misinformation

            • Elem187

Lol, so because there is nothing new to announce regarding Bayo2 automatically means it’s getting cancelled? Sounds legit.

I haven’t heard the media talking about the president and his wife lately, that means Obama has turned gay. Yeah I’ll just go with it,

          • Claude

….that’s what happened BEFORE Nintendo saved it from death. It’s been uncancelled for years and so has the Bayo movie.

            • TetsuyaHikari

Eh… It’s still odd that there has been no mention of it since Sega has been reconstructed and it has also been removed from Nintendo’s 2013-2014 Wii U lineup, period.

              • Claude

There’s been regular mention of it in Nintendo Directs and at game shows. They even uncancelled the Bayo movie. Where have you been?

                • TetsuyaHikari

Yeah, no… Do you see anything posted on this site or anywhere recent regarding new information for Bayo 2? I know I sure as hell haven’t seen any. Again, I’d be surprised if it even came out at all at this point.

Something tells me Sega and Nintendo might not be on such good terms right now.

                  • Claude

You’re not making sense. Gametsu can only cover so much, said coverage has no impact on if the game still exists or not. Kamiya regularly answers tweets about the game, including getting Bayo1 on Wii U to precede the release of the sequel. Bayo2 was playable at Madrid Games Week THIS MONTH:

Where’s your proof that this game is cancelled and Nintendo/Sega are at each others throats? I’m going to need more than outdated NeoGAF posts as proof when there’s footage of real people playing it at game shows as recent as two weeks ago.

          • Budgiecat

But Bayonetta sold over 1 million globally…

          • Elem187

A thread from NeoGAF? Gee, can you come up with a source a little more reliable than NeoGAF? My goldfish has more credibility and its dead.

      • Budgiecat

        lol wut … nooooooo

      • Tetsu

Bayonetta 2 is on Nintendo’s and Platinum Games’ Official websites, it was at E3 2013, and is still set to come out in 2014. There is still active developer commentary on Platinum’s website as well, they just released part 68.
Sega published it originally, but Nintendo is doing that now, it has nothing to do with Sega anymore. They hold the copyright to the name, but all other facets belong to their respectful entities.

        • Alkhan

I came here to post this^

Sega has absolutely nothing to do with Bayonetta anymore.

          • Elem187

Sega still owns the IP, but they have nothing to do with bayo2. Nintendo owns the rights to that title.

      • Elem187

Sega could go bankrupt and it wouldn’t affect bayo2 development.

Nintendo is paying all the development and publishing costs. Sega is inconsequential in the matter.

    • EX+

Arla. You reminded me of my ideal announcement:
      Zelda Wii U!

      • Arla

That would be awesome and could give Zelda U a lot of exposure to people that are generally not into the series. I think it’s safe to say people who watch VGA/X don’t play Zelda or Japanese games much.

Dark Souls II was announced there and the recognition/publicity for that series has shot through the roof since then. Of course it helps that people loved the last two games in the Souls series.

Zelda is already popular without that market though. Promoting Bayonetta 2, X and especially Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem at VGX could be huge for the games.

      • Elem187

I would think they would save Wii U Zelda for E3…. They show that trailer at E3 and all the buzz will be with Nintendo.

I’ll take a Fire Emblem vs Shin Megami Tensei. But this is an award show for dudebro gamers, they don’t play these types of games.

  • TheExile285

I wanna see more of Kirby 3DS

    • Xaltmas

Nintendo showing up to the VGX’s with Kirby while others are showing off stuff like The Witcher 3 and Titanfall would be depressing.

      • EX+

      • Alkhan

I’d much rather see a new Kirby than those games.

        • $83030187

Nintendo showing up to a Spike TV event that will feature major AAA next-gen titles with a handheld Kirby game would be a joke.

Microsoft is already confirmed to be showing at least Titanfall, and who knows what Sony is going to bring.

If Nintendo doesn’t have something substantial to show, it’s a waste of time.

  • Invisbin

Probably just a trailer for Zelda Wii U. Not hype.

  • $30632660

I may not give a shit Reggie because I’m willing to bet it’s going to be about Mario.

  • Claude

    Metroid plz.

  • Xaltmas

I think Smash Bros. is the most likely, but I could see a teaser trailer for The Legend of Zelda Wii U or maybe even stuff for X or Bayonetta 2.

    • ShawnOtakuSomething

      new IP

  • EX+

Interesting. Nintendo really NEEDS to do this. And it has to be big. They’re not doomed in any sense of the word, but they need that extra push.
And yes, I’m a Nintendo fan. A huge one at that. Hopefully Zelda Wii U. Me wants that!

    • Xaltmas

A teaser for the next Zelda would be godly.

Hell, maybe they show up with a few things. New trailers for Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros and a Zelda teaser.

It’s got to be taken into account that this is still a Spike TV event, so I can’t imagine something like X or SMTxFE.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

    A new IP? Ninteninja? SMTxFE?

    • TwinTails

  • bloodiOS

New info on X, B2’s release date, and B1’s Wii U port announcement?

    • SGTMAR

That’s a good one. For sure B2 and B1 announcement since it’s been tweeting around. I think they will cover some indie stuff and Smash Bros. will be the highlighted game.

  • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

The new IP Shigeru Miyamoto has been working on. Or the announcement for the Majora’s Mask remake, anyone? Or even Star Fox, F-Zero, or another Mother or Earthbound title? Sneak Peak at Yoshi’s Yarn Wii U?

    • Silver Citizen

There’s never going to be another Mother game. Ever.

      • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Doesn’t hurt to dream. Anything can happen.

    • Heisst

The creator of Mother already said the story ends at 3, there’s not going to be any more Mother games.

      • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

What about interquels? It can take place after Earthbound but before Mother 3 and have Ness and Lucas in the same game?

        • Heisst

He also said there’s not going to be any more Mother games.

          • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

shucks…well at least those two characters will be in Smash Bros. hopefully.

  • Aiddon

what’d be real hilarious is if it was something that was the exact OPPOSITE of what GT’s audience cares for, thus pissing a lot of people off. Or maybe not showing anything at all just to be trolls.

    • Kiririn51

Exactly what I thought, the dudebro audience, which is like the 98% of GTTV is going to get trolled hard.

  • Panda

I think is the new IP Miyamoto is making or Retro’s other project.

    • BigDix

Who says Retro has another project?

  • Raiu

Hey Nintendo, remember that Zelda WiiU tech demo? Yeah, announce that and I’ll be all over it…

  • Alkhan

I remember them saying that Zelda U is farther along in development than people think and that they could have shown a trailer at e3 or on their e3 Nintendo direct.

I’m it’s going to be Zelda U. Spike VGA’s did give the Zelda series the first spot in the “Gaming Hall Of Fame” back in 2011. Maybe Nintendo is showing their appreciation by announcing a new Zelda at their show?

    • Acidicsam

VGX would be a great time for Nintendo to announce Zelda WiiU.

They just hit the market pretty hard with Super Mario 3D World. The announcement of an original Legend of Zelda for the WiiU would be the metaphorical straw that broke the camel’s back for a lot of potential consumers.

    • hush404

This is only slightly related, but why do they have to keep titling games with U after them? Its soo damn silly. Just make up a name and go with it. You don’t see “Zelda: A link between 3DS worlds” or Pok3Dmon or something equally silly.

      • Alkhan

It’s not the actual title. It’s just what fans are calling it until it gets an official title.

It’s just placeholder and it sounds better than Zelda #18

        • hush404

Ahh k. I wouldn’t put it past them to name it that tho :P

  • Eder García

Nintendo at VGA’s? that’s interesting i though Nintendo is not welcome there.

  • Elvick

    I’m prepared to be underwhelmed.

  • SuperLuigi

Hmmmm it could be a bunch of things. Zelda U, Bayonetta 2, X, some new game, the 64 games remastered like in the rumor. If I had a guess it’s zelda though. They need something “manly” for vgx.

    • BigDix

Wow, that one about the “reUmagined” N64 games is something I was not aware of. Although I’m hardly convinced when the evidence of reliability is how the source “knew” there would be 3D Mario in 2013.
