I…worry for Japan’s gaming scene. It took Moe anime girls to sell an awesome tank game =/ (Well at least it looks fun)

If it’s an awesome tank game… why does it matter?

      • Kurisu Makise

Because it diminishes the value of the tank game itself via pandering. Worse, I don’t like the fact that this was probably the only way to get a tank game green lit.

You do realize this isn’t an original game do you? The game is based on an anime and it is obliged to use the characters frm the anime regardless of moe and whatnot. Your complain doesn’t really make sense context wise.

          • Kurisu Makise

I can substitute tank game with Tank anime, my results would be EXACTLY the same. There’s no other way to slice that such a thing wouldn’t get green lit without such methods.

You know, this is what everybody said about the show, and as skeptical as I was it turned out to be one of my top anime of 2012. Yes, I’m serious, it was that good, and generally speaking, did as much to appeal to tank nerds as it did to moe fans.

      • Kurisu Makise

I’d be a hypocrite if I said I didn’t like Moe, I mean, see my avatar lol. I actually believe it probably would do a good job, because most likely they wanted to appeal to tank nerds primarily. The moe is just the initial hook, which leads to why I’m protesting. It’s pretty dire in Japan in terms of selling entertainment content (games/light novels/anime). Things just can’t stand on their own anymore, everyone’s afraid to take risk. Ah but instead let’s blindly down vote someone raising an issue (this last bit isn’t referring to you Gold163).

Japan still creates creative things, but a lot of what you see from anime, light novels, and games, are lacking in it. When the majority of small companies that make anime or publish light novels they go after a niche. Unlike larger companies that can capture a mass market easily, a lot of the smaller ones try to go after hardcore otaku. With otaku they can drastically increase prices (like with anime DVDs/Blurays), and they often release a ton of merchandise that most people wouldn’t normally buy to account for the smaller audience.

I’m not saying things that go after otaku can’t be creative, but because of this process a lot of small companies try harder to pander than to be creative. This isn’t exclusive to small companies, but my favorite part of Japan’s entertainment output are the ideas that some individuals can think of without worrying solely on profit margins and market appeal. Small companies have the ability to bring us new and interesting experiences now, like they have done in the past, but like you said I feel like many are too afraid to take any risks.

Well stated Chohokin, yet because you spoke up and spoke against the fold, you’ve been downvoted. I’d much rather someone come out and debate against our points instead, y’know for discussion but alas. I think that’s a weakness in Disqus’ system admittedly (and other social networking based comment sites in general).

that’s Japan.. in there Moe sells..

    • Josephl64

It probably didn’t need the girls to sell the game, I mean WoT did well without it…and there have been popular tank games in Japan before this too…

      • Renaldi Saputra

I believe these moe thiings are intended to evoke male players in Japan to have a girl, I mean, marry ASAP

Developers must have spent a lot of time playing World of Tanks :)

  • ExTrooperBrenTurner

    Tanks, little girls… I’m interested.
