Snowcastle Games‘ has launched a Kickstarter for Festival of Magic, its upcoming adventure RPG “where players must fight and farm their way to glory.”
The developer is seeking $250,000 to develop the project, which will release for PC, Mac, and Linux first in January 2015, followed by Wii U. It hopes to release the title on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well, but these versions are not confirmed.
The game follows a young treasure hunter named Amon, who is summoned to a mysterious village island to help the sorceress Olia find her town’s missing Botanist. But while returning from the rescue mission, the village is ambushed by a powerful warlock who drain’s Olia’s powers. Now, together with Olia’s assistant Gnart, Amon must track down the Warlock and rebuild the village.
The game is set in Umbra, a world where magic and technology once co-existed in harmony. The Engineers and Magicians, together known as the Order, kept the planet’s core clockwork in balance. At least, until the Valvur clan erupted a conflict between the groups, dividing the two. This brought seasons to a standstill, covering one part of the planet in ice and another in deserts, and turning creatures into “wicked” monsters.
Battles in Festival of Magic are turn-based, and each character is paired with another in a “warrior and protector”-based system. According to the developer, “special pair actions and character stats change according to the pairings and will greatly affect the way you play in combat.”
