Nippon Ichi's roguelike strategy RPG launches on November 5.

NIS America has sent out a new trailer, gameplay videos, and set of screenshots for The Guided Fate Paradox.

The roguelike strategy RPG begins when Renya, the main character, becomes a god by winning a mall lottery. Lilliel, his self-proclaimed angel, whisks him to Celestia right away, where the two must tackle countless randomly-generated dungeons. It’s due out on PlayStation 3 on November 5 in North America and October 28 in Europe.

They sabotaged their own game release. People are still playing Disgaea D2 and by the time this gets released people will be still leveling up characters in Disgaea D2 and collecting stuff and doing item world etc.

I think you have a valid point, but I think they wager on LEs a lot to push sales. And those are doing well for a new IP from them. (less than 25% left)

And you can’t get those anywhere else, and if you wait you can risk paying far more for one than if you just got it at launch. (or people could buy it solely to re-sell it later, but NISA gets that money anyway)

Plus, NISA’s fanbase is dedicated enough and know that if they don’t buy early (or should know) that it’ll probably end up hard to find the game later on. ZHP ): why didn’t I buy it when I had the chance! *slaps self*

And what better way to sabotage their own series than releasing it on the same day as the fastest selling and one of the most popular series in all of gaming.

I know CoD and this have different audiences but you kind of still want as many people to try your new IP as possible. What better way to sabotage that than to release it on the same day as a game that people already know they want and isn’t an untested experience.

This is why NIS stuff will always remain niche. The only people who even know their games even exist are people who look up games and game news online and that group represents a small amount of the gaming populace.

Oh well. It’ll do good enough to cover it’s localization costs and it’s not like it has to sell millions to break even so, whatever.

eeeeeeh, there’s far more reasons for them to be niche. I mean, Disgaea D2 got a 9 on IGN, but that didn’t really change anything.

And anyway, I doubt the target demographic for these games would really care for the new CoD… Not saying they can’t (I know I do), but most of the people who would buy this normally think that it’s “the cancer of the industry” or something

      • Elvick

Yup, there’s SOME cross over fans of niche content like this with popular IPs like CoD.

But it’s not significant enough to dramatically harm their sales. And even then, just because CoD is the popular one of the two doesn’t mean the fans of both would pick it before this one.

I wouldn’t. Granted I don’t play CoD, but if it was up against like… AC4 or something, or Watch_Dogs which I want, then I’d pick this if I *had* too make that choice.

Personally I like supporting niche publishers first, unless it’s a low key release from a big publisher (ala; Rayman, Puppeteer, etc)

    These games look so budget.

I hope for their sake they up the quality when they move to PS4. Stop using design elements from 1994….

    • GDI

I do not understand. These look like Disgaea 4 sprites, which are HD sprites. Not Disgaea 3 sprites, which are the 16-bit sprites which you may be referring to.

There’s only so many ways to make a 2D game, and any strategic dungeon RPG style 2D game will have to be isometric.

    • DesmaX

Well, Hundred Knights graphics are pretty sweet. I would love Disgaea 5 with graphics like that

  • DesmaX

Too bad I had to change my pre-order for D2.

But, still, day 1 for me (Hopefully). My most hyped game this year (Especially after seeing the Livestream)

  • Elvick

Geez, didn’t expect to see so many Negative Nancys in here. Sheesh.

Anyhoo, got the LE preordered, looking forward to playing this.

  • fireemblembeast

Just preordered it, I can’t wait to hear the soundtrack on the LE cd (and ofc play the game!)

  • Gigus

if only I had money -___-. Another game that will have to wait. DAMN YOU BACKLOG!

  • HeatPhoenix

    This thing’s still not out?

  • ayb91

    Looks stunning !! *_*
