PlayStation 4 users can show real names at launch

Hello, this guy's name is Henry Bayle.

PlayStation 4 users will have the option of showing their real name on PlayStation Network on launch day, November 15, Sony has confirmed to Kotaku.

Showing your real name is an option, and is not required.

Xbox One will also allow users to display their real names, though the feature won’t be available until some time after launch.

Users who opt to show their real names on PlayStation 4 will still be able to play games using their PlayStation Network IDs.

Hmmm, I would say a lot of people won’t do that but so many people on YouTube does this. So there could be a bunch of folks doing this, at least when you join a game you PSN ID shows up instead of your name.

  • epy

Data mining is the name of the game… DAMMIT YOUTUBE! No, I don’t want to use my real name! Stop asking me!!!

    • Sevyne

Oh god, I am so SICK of it asking me that too! Was 1 “No” not easy enough to understand?

      • Seasqwaa

SERIOUSLY! And when it’s late at night… I don’t even know what I’m looking at at all. It makes me x everything out. EVERYTHING. IN SHEER ANGER.

    • Elvick

God tell me about it! And then when you click no, it’s not enough and takes you to another thing that’s weirdly worded so it’s hard to know which option to pick to get them to stfu. D:<

  • Sevyne

Henry Bayle has Drive Club! I call shenanigans!

  • Elvick

    Nope. (for me anyway)

Nice it’s there for launch, but I really don’t want to mix my real name in with it. The only stuff I want is stuff pushed to my facebook.

I hope they update the PS stuff on facebook to support the timeline already. It’s so spammy if you earn a lot of trophies.

  • hush404

Yeah… no, I think I’m alright with my usual handle.

  • GhostNomad

That’s cool and all but I’m more interested in an option to change our PSN ID’s (even if it’s for a certain price like Live).

    • Bobby Jennings

Likewise. I need a name change, and i wanna do it while keeping my trophies :/

  • Gigus

    Hmm…. no.

  • Invisbin

Um….I guess…I’ll…be the only one using my name :(

Im using it in hopes I’ll get recognized or something.

  • McPoo

Err… No thanks. Why is this even worth mentioning?

The majority of people will either stick to a handle they already have, or take the chance if possible to swap for a new one. Personally I won’t want to use my real name. Imagine beating some 12 year old on CoD so he decides to find an harass you on Facebook.

    • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

The thing is they’d be afraid to even harass you on Facebook once they find out you’re a mid-20s to early 30s man with a job and a girlfriend.

      • McPoo

I dunno… kids are pretty stupid. What difference does it make to a little American kid, thousands of miles away when they see that I’m 23, with a girlfriend and work in marketing? They’re not gonna give a shit about that, they’re just gonna call me a fag and spam me or something :(

    • Lelouch Vi Britannia

      Oh God.

    • Lelouch Vi Britannia

Or in the case of that annoying 12 year old brat who needs a spanking for being a spoiled little shit. You can just block that brat off of Facebook. That’s what I do to people I don’t like.

      • McPoo

That’s true. I’d rather they didn’t have my real name either way though >_>

  • りんごタルト@エスカのアトリエ

PS4 is really cool, Sony, but nope.

  • jujubee88

    Hi, my name is

    First Name
    Middle Name:
    Last Name:

That’s what this will turn out being like XD

  • artemisthemp

It’s cool that friends can add me via my real name, but doubt I gonna display it for all to see
