No debate here, there is absolutely no game that could interest me. And since they will be more expensive than the previous gen…

    • Bryce Blalex Douglas

What are you talking about? The price of the games will remain the same next Gen.

      • 武神水樹

        $10 higher in Japan

        • EspadaKiller

Game prices are not consistent in Japan anyway, what do you mean by $10 higher? So we would see PS4 games costing 10k yen and more?

        • Bryce Blalex Douglas

Damn when did they announce that?

          • Casval
            • EspadaKiller

Ugh isn’t that the upgrade option? From the PS3 version to the PS4 version. So if you want to play the PS4 version you would only need to pay a 1000yen fee to play the game on the PS4 using the PS3 disc. It’s the same as in the rest of the world.

              • Budgiecat

No it’s not the upgrade option….please read carefully

            • Sal Romano

In AC4 and Watch Dogs’ case, the games cost 7,400 yen on PS3 and 8,400 yen on PS4.

In DW8 XL’s case, too, The game costs 1,090 yen more on PS4 than it does on PS3.

But these are only three games. I’m not sure we can look at it quite yet and say all PS4 games will be more expensive than PS3 games in Japan.

              • Bryce Blalex Douglas

No wonder why consoles are not the most popular choice. If the price varied so widely and were as expensive out here I’d have to find a new hobby

        • outlawauron

Publishers set their own prices. There’s no overall MSRP for platforms. MGS4 MSRP’d for 3,000 yen more than your average game (and was more expensive than every PS4 title so far).

    • AdamBoy64

Nothing on PS4 interests me yet either. Well, not enough to buy the console.

Now I have a reasonable understanding why – it’s not out in Japan until next year. Should start seeing some more Japanese games announced after that.

  • EspadaKiller

I bet the hardcore Japanese PlayStation fans would get their PS4 in Nov or Dec than waiting for the actual Japanese launch. Probably through Amazon or game shops that are willing to import the console in and sell it at a more expensive price.

Or they could go to their neighbourhood countries to get the console, like in Taiwan or Hong Kong :P

    • Zackasaur

Some of them will, but some of them will want their games in Japanese or will find the wait worth the savings.

Plus, even where the PS4 is releasing in November, the thing will be a challenge to find. Pre-orders are long gone.

      • equalequation

        …..wait, the PS4 isn’t region-locked, is it?

What’s preventing those fans from buying a US PS4 and playing Japanese games on it, if that’s the case?

        • AK

          Maybe S&H or Duty fees.

        • AdachiTohru

Blu ray movies are region locked though.

  • ExTrooperBrenTurner

I’m not in Japan, but I’d like to preorder a japanese PS4. Can someone tell me where I can do it ? Any website that ships to Europe would be great. There’s Play-asia but they don’t allow preorders yet :/

    • AdachiTohru

      So wait.

      • ExTrooperBrenTurner

I don’t need that kind of comment. You could have ignored mine, it would have been better.

        • AdachiTohru

Its the best advice you could get ;)

          • ExTrooperBrenTurner

I don’t think so. I was expecting something like “try this website, or this one” or simply no reply. Your comment did not help, so, it is not the best advice, you are just wasting my time.

            • AdachiTohru

Best advice means you should wait for Play asia, if you want quality service

              • ExTrooperBrenTurner

I’ve had many problems with them in the past. The most common one : the product never made its way to my home. And when you contact them about that, guess what : no refund. So, I would like to avoid Play Asia if I want to buy a JP PS4.

                • AdachiTohru

Bad luck… But you wont find better… So just wait for amason import

                  • ExTrooperBrenTurner

Well, I don’t know if you’ve heard about this one : Nin Nin Game. I bought my second PS3 and my PS Vita on this website, and I can tell you they’ve earned my trust. But, as for now, none of the next-gen consoles are listed (yet). So, yes, it looks like I do not have the choice, but to wait.

  • Zackasaur

I hope the pre-orders in Japan are excellent!

    • jujubee88

Consoles (in Japan) are not all that popular, so prepare for sub PS3 levels. Just being real here.

Downvoters would you care to explain why you felt the need to click the down arrow instead of the up one? Thanks!

      • outlawauron

Considering the Wii U situation, there’s quite a lot of room for the PS console marketshare to grow from last generation. No reason it can’t match or exceed PS3’s sales.

      • Sevyne

I didn’t downvote you, but I don’t completely agree with you either. The PS3 had a bad start not because of the lack of interest in consoles in Japan, but because it was insanely priced and didn’t have appealing launch titles for the market.

Yeah, Japan is more portable oriented, but you speak as if consoles are shunned over there when they really aren’t. PS3 ended up seeing success after they addressed the problems that bogged it down from launch. PS4 is avoiding the mistakes made with the PS3 launch and that is as clear as day (Reasonable pricing, coming later to get JP oriented titles for launch, etc).

While all we can do is speculate on the turnout, I’m simply saying that the way Sony are approaching it’s launch speaks contrary to your belief.

      • Raiu

Not that I disagree with you…. It’s better to wait for results then make judgements because it’s hard to predict….

Personally, I think PS4 has a chance to be a success in Japan because it has elements from portables and mobile phones…. ex. On and off power/immediacy like PS Vita’s and Social Connectivity like mobile phones….

The prices are the major things standing between them being successful or not… Also waiting for more JP games to be available for launch is smart, they need to ramp up interest in the consumers…. Having few games makes it worse…

        • jujubee88

I’d rather make the assessment now.. And it’s the one you talked about last.

It’s all about the games, PS4 doesn’t have any immediate system sellers at the launch window for Japan. Definitely no real exclusive system sellers. Unless GT6, TLG, and Persona 5 get announced soon in the first year, unit sales for PS4 are going to look like hell in Japan (I’ talking pos-launch. The preorders look phenomenal but, meh, that’s not much to go off of in the life-span of the device)

          • equalequation

I didn’t downvote you, but if you intended to talk post-launch, you shouldn’t really have done it at a comment that’s talking about pre-order numbers…

            • jujubee88

I’ll make a mental note of that. >.>

The point of this string of disqus comments was mainly based off of being real when it comes to PS4’s overall sales and impact in Japan. And I’m arguing it’s not going to be anywhere near as big as 3DS and it maybe even constantly outsold by PS3 in terms of software sales (maybe even hardware).

          • AdachiTohru

Its too soon to talk about pos-launch, in fact, we will in few months.

We never know what happens next, but P5 and TLG will certainly be announced this year ( and maybe for this year?)

          • Raiu

Hence why the release date has been pushed back… It’s now all about getting as many games at launch and post launch as possible…

People predicted the 3DS is gonna fail and now look at where it’s standing…

      • EspadaKiller

Nope, the PS4 will be selling like hotcakes in Japan. I have many Japanese friends are waiting for the PS4, they are really hyped for it. Especially after seeing the FFXV trailer lol.

        • Budgiecat

          Welcome to 2006

      • Keegs79

I can’t stand comments like yours that have no proof but just spout nonsense out of your mouth. Your being like those who said mobile gaming is taking over but statistics have shown it hasn’t made a big impact in the States. Iphones and Android phones haven’t and the same goes for Streaming online consoles when the backlash of the Xbox One forced Microsoft to change their strategy. All these crazy predictions such as yours have always been debunked.

        • jujubee88

I’ve not talked half the nonsense you claimed I have. (I don’t even know what you wrote though, tbh)

        • Budgiecat

          He said Japan….not the states…

  • Invisbin

Oh shit lmao I thought they were always open, just not for a Japan version. Im dumb.

  • gerald

I hope the bad Wii U sales and the fair to say doomed Xbone in Japan means PS4 will be a huge hit. Maybe all the focus on portables will make people crave big console games again… It’d be good for us too because it’d mean more Japanese games. Most of my faves from this gen were Japanese.

    • Budgiecat

hopefully the friendlier to develop for hardware means Japanese publishers won’t be so shy to make Sony console games anymore as they were in the past…

Though this very lackluster list isn’t good foreshadowing…

  • AdachiTohru
  • Budgiecat

    Yakuza and Natural Doctrine…that’s it.

    Whats up Japan….where’s my exclusives…

    • Pekola

No JRPG’s during Japanese Launch is a bit disappointing. You’d think Sony might have pushed for that…

      *single tear*

      • 罪罰

You can clearly see Natural Doctrine in the list.
        *wipes tear*

        • Pekola

          But we get so few…

          *brushes hand away dramatically*

If they release one more at least by march or may, that would be so great.

  • Pekola

if P5 came for PS4, and XV and KH3 had definitive release dates, you can bet sales would be pretty high in japan (and admittedly, even higher in the west)

Fortunately, pre-orders are apparently going really well so let’s hope it has a big break like the PS2.
